Final Fantasy Wiki

Fog is a negative status effect in Final Fantasy XIII that makes the afflicted unable to use magic and any pending magic actions will be canceled. Its physical abilities counterpart is Pain. The status that disables all attacks used with ATB is Daze.

Fang is the Saboteur who learns debilitation spells the earliest and thus also likely the Fog spell, though Snow also learns it on Crystarium level 7.

Fog is often used by cactuar-type enemies and Tonberry and is a nuisance when contracted and best quickly healed.

Abilities[]

Game Element Type Effect
Fog Saboteur ability for Sazh, Snow, Vanille, and Fang Inflicts Fog to the target for 60 seconds (base duration). Base chance 20%.
Fogga Saboteur ability for Snow, Fang, and Hope Inflicts Fog to the targets in range for 60 seconds (base duration). Base chance 15%.

Ailment duration for effects inflicted from spells cast in battle can be somewhat lengthened with high chain gauge when the spell hits the target, and the Jinx ability. In addition, Fog lasts for one more second for every 100 points of Magic the caster has; anything that directly affects the Magic stat will help, such as Faith status and the Power Surge passive abilities, with Stifled Magic and Fettered Magic being exceptions.

Resistance[]

The player can resist Fog with Veil status, as well as the White Cape and Effulgent Cape accessories for Fog specifically, and Ribbon and Super Ribbon for all status ailments. The Debuff Resistance passive ability can additionally used to shorten the duration of Fog.

Removal[]

Fog can be removed with Esuna, Dispelga, and Mallet. Also, when an Eidolon is dismissed, regardless of whether it entered Gestalt Mode, all party members will be fully healed, both status and HP.

Enemies[]

The higher the number, the more susceptible the enemy is to the status. If the enemy has no magic abilities in its arsenal, Fog will have no effect on them, other than making them slightly more susceptible to Death landing an instant kill.

Cie'th-type enemies tend to be immune to Fog.

Enemies fought when the player lacks access to the Fog spell still programmed resistances to the status even if the player cannot use the status against them in a normal playthrough.
