Trio of dice that deal more damage the higher they roll.
Description
The Fixed Dice is the strongest gambler's item weapon for Setzer in Final Fantasy VI. The weapon has a unique damage calculation algorithm based on Setzer's level. Notably, the weapon does not factor in Master's Scroll's damage reduction, making it an extremely powerful weapon that allows Setzer an immense physical damage output.
Obtained[]
The Fixed Dice can be acquired in Kefka's Tower. Because the player does not have to complete the whole dungeon, they can simply arrive and pick up the weapon and leave, to have access to it throughout the World of Ruin.
Mechanics[]
When used, three dice are thrown at the opponent. The damage dealt is equal to the product of all three rolls multiplied by Setzer's level, then doubled. If all dice rolls are the same, the damage is multiplied again by one of those rolls. The weapon still benefits from the berserked damage boost.
- A, B, C -> Number rolled on each die
- L -> Setzer's Level
- T -> T=A if Setzer rolls a triple, otherwise T=1
- Damage = A x B x C x L x T x 2
The Fixed Dice is a ranged weapon that ignores defense, the Master's Scroll damage penalty, and all other factors that normally determine damage. The numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 have a 3/16 chance of appearing, while 5 and 6 have a 1/8 chance (on the first two dice only; the third one has 1/6 chance for each digit).
What makes the Fixed Dice so unique is their high damage output—rolling triple 6, while unlikely, would result in 9999 damage no matter Setzer's level. At as low a level as 50 Setzer can do thousands of damage with relatively low rolls, and with a bit of luck, can easily inflict 9999 damage a roll. Combined with the Master's Scroll, Setzer could take out many of the game's bosses in a single attack, and with Quick cast to allow him to attack twice, Setzer potentially could kill any boss on his own.
The weapon is affected by the capture glitch.
Use[]
The Fixed Dice is notable in enabling Setzer to deal immense damage with very little investment. As Fixed Dice's damage is based on Setzer's level only, and his other stats are irrelevant, the Fixed Dice only needs Master's Scroll to be very effective. This means that, for a length of time in the game, the Fixed Dice is the best way to take advantage of the Master's Scroll. At all points in the game, Fixed Dice is Setzer's best weapon.
Later in the game, Ultima Weapon becomes a better option to pair with Master's Scroll (and Genji Glove). This is because Ultima Weapon also ignores Defense, and is much more consistent. Fixed Dice is still somewhat random in its effect, while Ultima Weapon, once the user's HP and stats are high enough, can more consistently reach high amounts of damage with Master's Scroll.
