Restore HP to one HP Critical ally.
Description
First Aid is a Technick in Final Fantasy XII that lets the character heal an HP Critical ally for a small amount of health. It is purchased from Technicks shops in the beginning of the game after the shadestone quest with Penelo in Giza Plains. In the original PlayStation 2 version, all player characters who have the License Board can activate it. In the Zodiac versions, it is used by certain jobs and by Balthier, Penelo, and Larsa (Lamont).
Obtain[]
The license for First Aid costs 20 License Points. In the original PlayStation 2 version, First Aid is sold in Technicks shops for 700 gil in Nalbina Fortress and Rabanastre (after Penelo leaves), and Balthier joins with it already in his possession. In the Zodiac versions, it is sold for 600 gil in shops after the shadestone quest in Giza, and Balthier and Larsa already have it. It is also a Trial Mode Stage 1 treasure (with the Diamond Armlet).
The player does not need to buy it as Balthier will join with it.
In the Zodiac versions, First Aid can be used by the Uhlan, Knight, Monk, Archer, and Shikari job classes, as well as Penelo[note 1] and Balthier no matter what job they choose, and Larsa, who joins as a guest.
- ↑ The first time Penelo joins Vaan on the Giza Plains, she has the First Aid license but not the Technick scroll itself, so she can use it if the player purchases it. After Balthier joins Vaan in the Garamsythe Waterway, Penelo (and any job class who has acquired the First Aid license) will be able to use First Aid even if the player never bought the Technick.
Mechanics[]
First Aid has 100% accuracy as long as the target is an ally with HP Critical health (they flash red with <15% HP remaining). If the target is not in HP Critical status, First Aid will miss. It has a fast cast time, but is not as fast as using an item.
First Aid does not awake sleeping targets, and like all Technicks, is unaffected by Reverse.
Use[]
Balthier has First Aid as one of his default gambits, but the Technick does not see much use as it is inferior to healing with items and white magick. Fran, Ashe, and Penelo come with Cure learned, and so the player has few moments when they are stuck without healing means. Self HP Critical: Hi-Potion/X-Potion is a better gambit setup for a character who lacks healing magick.
