Firebird Trance, formerly known as Summon Phoenix, is a PvP-exclusive Summoner ability from Final Fantasy XIV. It is a complex ability that interacts with several other actions in the Summoner kit, and is central to their rotation.

Use

While active, Firebird Trance replaces Ruin III and Outburst with Fountain of Fire and Brand of Purgatory, and it resets the recast timer of Tri-disaster on use. Fountain of Fire and Brand of Purgatory deal heavy single-target and area of effect damage, respectively.

Firebird Trance replaces Dreadwyrm Trance when Dreadwyrm ends, and turns back into Dreadwyrm when used. The two Trances share their recast timer, and both require a full Aetherflow Gauge to use. The Trances must compete with Fester, Painflare, and Bane for Aetherflow, though the latter abilities use only a single unit. Aetherflow can be gathered fairly quickly in PvP using Energy Drain, and Tri-disaster generates it as well. The Summoner PvP rotation generally involves balancing the use of the single-Aetherflow abilities while ensuring the Summoner has a full gauge ready to use the Trances on cooldown.

Shadowbringers	Added as a level 72 Summoner ability with a 60s oGCD recast and 20 second duration. Reduced the casting time of spells by 2.5 seconds, reset the recast timer on Tri-disaster, and replaced Ruin III and Outburst with Fountain of Fire and Brand of Purgatory respectively. Level 80 trait Enhanced Firebird Trance caused it to summon Demi-Phoenix is addition to its other effects.
Patch 5.1	Recast time reduced to 55s.
Endwalker	Removed.

PvP version

Version	Changes
Shadowbringers	Added as Summon Phoenix. Summoned Demi-Phoenix. Whenever the Summoner cast a spell on an enemy, Demi-Phoenix would cast Scarlet Flame on the same target. Replaced Summon Bahamut upon Demi-Bahamut leaving the battlefield.
Patch 5.1	Renamed to Firebird Trance. No longer summons Demi-Phoenix. Now resets the recast of Tri-disaster. Now replaces Dreadwyrm Trance upon effect ending.
