Uses "Fire3" on all opponents

Description

Fire Veil is a battle item item in Final Fantasy VII that casts Fire3 on all enemies. It is the Fire-elemental version of the Swift Bolt, Ice Crystal, Earth Mallet, and M-Tentacles, and an upgrade to the Fire Fang.

Mystery Ninja may use it against the player, depending on what level she is fought.

Obtained[]

Buy Wutai (800 gil)
Drop Foulander
Morph Desert Sahagin

Mechanics[]

Unlike when casting the spell Fire3, using the Fire Veil does not take the user's stats into account in determining damage. The final damage is calculated as :

The damage is then modified as per the enemy's resistance to Fire-elemental damage; i.e. double if the enemy is weak to Fire, half of they resist, 0 if they nullify Fire, or healing if they absorb Fire.

Items bypass the target's Reflect status.

Use[]

Fire Veil has moderate use during the time the player can obtain it, as it may deal more damage than the player might be able to at that point in time, especially if they hit elemental weaknesses. During the "Homecoming of a Miserable Daughter" quest, the player's Materia is also taken away or greatly depleted, meaning offensive items can be helpful. However, Fire Veil is quickly outclassed if the player has Beta, as Fire Veil can only do upwards to 1200 damage. For challenge runs where Materia is not usable, the Fire Veil can see a fair more amount of use, and if the player has not obtained Beta, it can be used when traveling through Great Glacier and Gaea's Cliff.

In the Battle Square, the Fire Veil may prove to be useful if the player no longer has access to their Materia.

Etymology[]

The item's Japanese name is "Katon", which comes from (火遁(かとん)(の術), Katon (no Jutsu)?, lit. Unleashed Flame (Technique)). It is a recurring ninjutsu skill in the series, and also explains why it is being sold in Wutai, the land of the ninja.
