Allows you to use fire magic.

Description

Fire materia is a Magic Materia Magic Materia in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission" equipped to provide the user Fire Fire-elemental spells. The materia also has the fire element, meaning it can be linked with the Elemental Materia Elemental Materia to add fire damage to attacks or resist against fire. It can be paired with Synergy Materia Synergy Materia for auto-casting.

Fire is also a materia in the Fort Condor minigame in INTERmission on the following boards: Starter Board, Sorcerer Board II, Assassin Board I. The spell damages a chosen target, but may be intercepted by enemy structures, like barracks.

Obtained[]

A fire materia is initially equipped on Cloud Strife. More can be bought from shops, first available in the Sector 7 Slums, and it costs 500 gil.

Later, a fire materia orb can be found in the Sector 7 Abandoned Factory, visited during "Just Flew In from the Graveyard" in "Home Sweet Slum".

In INTERmission, fire materia is sold in the Sector 7 Slums item shop, and in all vending machines.

Use[]

Fire materia grants three tiers of fire-elemental spells, beginning with the base spell Fire. After receiving AP, it unlocks more powerful spells that require greater MP use; 300 AP unlocks Fira, and 900 AP unlocks Firaga. These spells are comparable in damage to spells from Ice Materia Ice Materia, Lightning Materia Lightning Materia, and Wind Materia Wind Materia. Equipping the fire materia increases the user's max MP by +1.

Fire damage is effective against most human enemies, such as Shinra soldiers, as well as a few biological enemies, such as Abzu. It can be good for characters like Cloud and Tifa in the beginning portions of the game who may struggle to reach enemies that are high up without using magic, since the fire materia is available since the start.

Fire materia with magnify materia.

Fire materia can be useful for spellcasting, particularly on Aerith and Cloud, who have the highest and second-highest Magic Magic attribute, respectively. Fire spells have strong homing and detonate immediately upon contact, though the projectile can be blocked by obstacles before reaching its target. Fire spells can hit in an area of effect, meaning that they are useful to cast on enemies that cluster together. Aerith can also benefit greatly from Magnify Materia Magnify Materia to extend the range of spells and allow them to hit multiple targets, allowing her to stay at a safe distance. Fire spells can launch enemies who are susceptible to being launched, which can cause them to become pressured.

The Elemental Materia Elemental Materia can be paired with fire materia to add the fire element to equipment. This can be paired on weapons to allow a characters' normal attacks to exploit an enemy's weakness to fire, or on armor to resist fire damage. When used on weapons, it is especially effective on Tifa and Cloud, who have high strength attributes, to increase their damage, particularly on enemies weak to fire but resistant to physical damage. On armor, it can be used well in combination with the Provoke Materia Provoke Materia to greatly resist fire attacks. This is ideal on Barret Wallace, who can sustain a lot of damage in battle.

The level of the player's best fire materia is assessed for Chocobo Sam's questline in Wall Market during "The Town That Never Sleeps". When Cloud and Johnny help the chef figure out which of his appliances is working sub-optimally, fire materia level matters for assessing the stove.

In "Episode INTERmission", Yuffie can natively deal magical fire damage with her Elemental Ninjutsu without expending MP, and so using Fire is less relevant to her. It may be better on Sonon Kusakabe, or when paired with magnify materia.
