The Fire Elemental, also known as the FIRE or Pyros in the NES and PlayStation ports respectively, is an enemy in the original Final Fantasy. As with the Earth Elemental, it consists of a demon emerging from flames, although the Fire Elemental has red skin rather than green. They are enemies in the Mount Gulg, being stronger than Pyrolisks and Horned Devils, however, they still can be defeated easily by some physical attacks and some Ice spells.

Locations[]

Fire Elementals are fixed encounters that "guard" certain tiles in the Gurgu Volcano, for example:

  • Guarding a chest in the second floor of the volcano (north from the easternmost door of the big room).
  • A chest in the second basement (west from the easternmost door, easier access from the middle door of the second room).
  • A room with a lot of chests, they are Fire Elementals guarding the entrance of this "room".

In the Chaos Shrine of the past, there is a floor known as the "Marilith Floor", which contains various monsters found in the Mount Gulg. They are easier to defeat now that the party has defeated the two remaining fiends.

Etymology[]

Fire is the rapid oxidation of a material in the exothermic chemical process of combustion, releasing heat, light, and various reaction products.

An elemental is a mythic being described in occult and alchemical works from around the time of the European Renaissance and particularly elaborated in the 16th century works of Paracelsus.

The pyros, previously referred to as the Small Tactical Munition (STM), is a weapon developed by Raytheon, designed to be used by UAVs.
