The Fire Elemental (ファイアー, Faiā?, lit. Fire, 火のエレメント, Hi no Eremento?, lit. Fire Element, or ファイアエレメンタル, Faiaerementaru?), also known as the FIRE or Pyros, is a recurring enemy in the Final Fantasy series. True to its name, it is an Elemental sharing attacks and affinity with the Fire element.

The Fire Elemental, also known as the FIRE or Pyros, is fought in Mount Gulg and Chaos Shrine. It is found guarding several squares and chests. It is weak to Ice.

A member of the Elemental spirit pack, Fire Elementals are fought as regular and notorious monsters. They use various Fire attacks.
Final Fantasy XII[]
The Fire Elemental is fought in the Mosphoran Highwaste during sunny weather, as well as in the Trial Mode in the Zodiac versions. It is docile unless attacked or magick is used nearby.

The Fire Elemental is fought as a boss in the Abandoned Mines and as a normal enemy in Snowfly Forest, Limestone Quarry, and the Escapeway.

Etymology[]
Fire is the rapid oxidation of a material in the exothermic chemical process of combustion, releasing heat, light, and various reaction products. An elemental is a mythic being described in occult and alchemical works from around the time of the European Renaissance and particularly elaborated in the 16th century works of Paracelsus.
