Fire (火, Hi?) is a recurring element in the Final Fantasy series. It is one of the earliest elements introduced, and forms a trifecta with the elements of ice and lightning. It is the opposing element of ice and occasionally water. Fire is a central element in Final Fantasy XVI and Type series.
Recurring themes[]
Equipment[]
Flame equipment is a common set of weapons and armor that deal, nullify, or absorb fire damage. One of these items is the Flametongue, a medium-level blade. Various single-use items can be used to deal fire damage, including Bomb Cores and Bomb Arms.
Spells[]
Fire has a complete set of tiered spells: Fire, Fira, Firaga, and Flare/Firaja. The enemy skill Blaze is mastered by enemies such as Chimera. The spell and status effect NulBlaze protects the unit from fire-elemental attacks. In Final Fantasy VI Meltdown is the ultimate fire spell. In Final Fantasy XII, Ardor is the ultimate fire spell. In many games in the series, Flare is non-elemental rather than fire-elemental. Fire Breath is a recurring fire-elemental enemy spell that can sometimes be used by the player as a Blue Magic.
Summons[]
Ifrit is the earliest and most frequent avatar of fire, usually attacking with Hellfire or Inferno. Belias, the Gigas, is the Esper of fire in Ivalice. Salamander is another recurring fire summon in Ivalice, and the summon Phoenix's special attack is also often fire-based. In Final Fantasy XVI, both Phoenix and Ifrit appear as Eikons of fire. The summon Brynhildr is a fire-based summon in the Lightning Saga.
Four Fiends[]
In the games whose stories' involve crystals, the elemental guardians of them, commonly identified as 'the Four Fiends', are often present. In Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy IX it is represented by Marilith, in Final Fantasy IV by Rubicante, in Final Fantasy Mystic Quest by Dualhead Hydra, and in Final Fantasy Dimensions by Baugauven.
Enemies[]
Desert enemies tend to be resilient against fire attacks. A notable exponent of the fire element is the Bomb, who often absorb the element and utilize fire attacks. Undead and plant enemies are usually weak against fire. Beast enemies are also weak against fire. In Final Fantasy VII remake project, human enemies tend to be weak to fire.

Final Fantasy IV[]
In the original SNES version, when the characters equip Ice- or Fire-resistant equipment, they inherently become weak to the opposite element. This is easy to negate for magic spells by equipping an opposing elemental armor (e.g. Ice Shield and Fire Armor).
However, a character with the Protect Ring (has both Fire and Ice resistance) is weak to Fire and Ice-elemental physical attacks (however, no enemy uses physical elemental attacks so this isn't an issue). This is changed in the Advance version where characters are no longer weak against the opposing element.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]
Final Fantasy V[]
Fire is an element that Faris, Karnak, and the Great Sea Trench are associated with lore-wise. Fire is one of the most ubiquitous elements in the game, alongside ice and lightning. Party members can inflict fire-elemental damage via the summon Ifrit, and the Fire, Fira, and Firaga spells/spellblades, among other means.
Final Fantasy VI[]
It is associated with Terra, who can learn fire-aspected spells naturally just by leveling up. Fire is opposed to
Ice. The fire-elemental offensive esper is Ifrit. Many undead and ice-type enemies are weak to fire damage.
Final Fantasy VII[]
One of the earliest accessible elements to the player. It is the progenitor of the Fire line of spells. Flare is another Fire-elemental spell. Its summons are Ifrit and Phoenix, and its learnable Enemy Skills are Flame Thrower and Beta. When Vincent is in Galian Beast form, he may use the Fire-elemental Beast Flare. Kujata, Typhon, and Magic Breath also make use of it. Fire Fang and Fire Veil and Molotov are Fire-elemental battle items.
Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-[]
Fire is a one three basic elements, with three tiered spells as well as status-inflicting versions denoted as "dark" or "hell" in the spell's name. Ifrit is fire-elemental as a boss but when summoned his attack is non-elemental, so the player does not need to worry accidentally healing enemies that absorb fire. The player can protect against fire with materia setups and accessories.
Final Fantasy VII remake project[]
Fire is one of the four elements in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Fire is mainly effective against human enemies with a few exceptions. Fire can be accessed via the
Fire Materia to cast Fire spells, which will home in on targets upon being cast and explode on contact. Linking it with
Elemental Materia in a weapon makes a character's weapon attacks fire-elemental. Yuffie can use elemental ninjutsu and Banishment, and in Rebirth, Cloud's Firebolt Blade is both fire and lightning-elemental. The fire-elemental summons are Ifrit and Phoenix, and Kujata is tri-elemental, also embodying ice and lightning.
Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis[]
Fire is one of the six elements. It is opposed to Ice, with several Ice-based enemies being weak to it, such as Shiva and Ice Bombs. Fire is also a common weakness across various human enemies. Fire is represented by the summon Ifrit.
Final Fantasy VIII[]
Fire is an element opposed to Ice. The Fire-elemental Guardian Forces are Ifrit and Phoenix, the Fire-elemental spells are Fire, Fira, and Firaga, and the Fire-elemental Limit Breaks are Quistis's Fire Breath and Irvine's Flame Shot.
Final Fantasy IX[]
It is typically opposed to Ice, ice-attuned enemies being commonly weak to it. The player can use it via Vivi's Blk Magic and Steiner's Swd Mag, as well as Dagger's Ifrit and Eiko's Phoenix. The elemental weapons are Flame Saber and Flame Staff. Some robes make the wearer weak to Fire damage. The one equipment piece that lets the player absorb Fire damage is the Rosetta Ring, and the one equipment piece that nullifies it is the Aegis Gloves, but there are many equipment pieces that halve it.
Final Fantasy X[]
Fire is the opposing element of Ice. Fire has three tiers of basic spells: Fire, Fira, and Firaga. The player can also use fire attacks with Wakka's Element Reels, Kimahri's Fire Breath, and various items and mixes, as well as the Firestrike weapon ability.
The spell and status effect NulBlaze protects the unit from fire-elemental attacks. Desert enemies tend to be resilient against fire attacks. A notable exponent of the Fire element is the Bomb, who often absorb the element and utilize fire attacks. Beasts and plant enemies are usually weak against fire. The fire summon is Ifrit.
Final Fantasy X-2[]
Fire is opposed to Ice. The player has various means of inflicting fire damage with abilities learned on dressphere, such as the Warrior's Flametongue or the Black Mage's spells. Many plant or fungus enemies, as well as ice-attuned enemies, are weak to fire damage.
Final Fantasy XI[]
The Fire element is strong against Ice and weak to Water. It is aligned with the attribute of Strength. The status ailment corresponding to Fire is Burn, and it drains HP and Intelligence from the target.

Terrain has no effect on Fire. The Fire-elemental Esper is Belias and the Fire spells are in Black Magicks, apart from the ultimate Fire spell, Ardor, which was moved to Arcane Magicks in the Zodiac re-releases.
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings[]
Final Fantasy XIII[]

Fire is opposed to ice, and is especially associated with Sazh and the Eidolon Brynhildr, though everyone but Snow learns fire-elemental abilities in their Ravager trees. Barfire to mitigate fire damage taken while Enfire makes otherwise non-elemental abilities fire-elemental and boosts already fire-elemental abilities' power. AI-controlled Synergists will commonly opt to boost the party's power with Enfire when enemies have Imperil as it is the first en-spell in their spell list. Though Brynhildr is naturally fire-elemental, Sazh can bestow elemental infusions on her to change her elemental characteristics. The player can protect against fire damage from enemies with status enhancements and accessories.
Final Fantasy XIII-2[]

Fire is opposed to ice, and is especially associated with Serah as a Ravager, though Noel and many in the Paradigm Pack also learn fire-elemental abilities in their Ravager trees. Enfire makes otherwise non-elemental abilities fire-elemental and boosts already fire-elemental abilities' power, but neither Serah nor Noel can learn en-spells; Enfire is only available to certain Paradigm Pack creatures. The player can protect against fire damage from enemies with status enhancements, the Sentinel's abilities, and accessories. Fire abilities can be physical or magical.
