Use[]
Fire is a basic element, and is generally useful throughout most of the game. Until the player obtains Fire3, the best way to clear groups of enemies with a Fire ability is with Beta, Ifrit, or through the use of Fire Veil. If the player is looking for a strong single-target Fire spell, then Flare is what the player should aim for; otherwise, Fire3 can suffice. The player can attempt to use Kujata, Typhon, and Magic Breath, but will have to beware in case the enemy absorbs or nullifies any of the other two elements.
For the Midgar section of the game, Fire-elemental attacks are mostly fine as no enemies nullify or absorb the element, although both Air Buster and Motor Ball resist it. Once outside of Midgar, until the party reaches the western continent, Fire has variable use as not many enemies are weak to the element. The western continent is where most of the enemies weak to the element reside. The best use for the Fire element comes when the player travels to the northern continent, as several of the enemies there are weak to Fire. Once the player finishes Gaea's Cliff, Fire stops having much value as no new enemies are weak to the element.
For against the element, within Midgar, having Fire with Elemental in armor is only really useful for the Motor Ball fight. Outside of Midgar, until the player reaches the western continent, the only real use for resistance against Fire comes from trying to learn the Beta spell from the Midgar Zolom, in which it is advised to pick up the Fire Ring from Costa del Sol first and have another character with the Fire + Elemental combo in their armor. On the western continent, Fire-protection is limited primarily to the fight with Gi Nattak due to the constant Fire2 from the Soul Fire. Fire-protection is not needed for the Wutai continent, but has its uses in the northern continent, in particular protecting against Stilva's Magic Breath and during the fight with Jenova∙DEATH. In the southern islands, Fire-protection is only useful in the Temple of the Ancients when fighting the Red Dragon. Lastly, in the final dungeon, Fire-protection is highly advised when passing through the area that contains the Movers due to the L3 Flare ability the Allemagne can cast.
