Fire magic damage/one enemy

Description

Fire is an attack magic spell in Final Fantasy VIII. It is the basic Fire-elemental spell below Fira and Firaga, allowing it to be junctioned to resist or deal Fire damage in battle, or cast as a spell.

When Magic Booster is used in the 2013 PC re-release, the player's inventory gains 100 Fire spells, among other basic spells.

An attack with the same animation as Fire is also cast naturally by Seifer's Limit Break, Fire Cross. Seifer uses it naturally in his Limit Break. However, his fire attacks are not actually elemental. Seifer also uses this maneuver in the opening cinematic.

Obtained[]

Many enemies have the Fire spell available to draw (drawing it will always suucceed), but one of the most common is the Bomb, first encountered in the Fire Cavern near Balamb Garden. The Guardian Force Ifrit gives the ability to create Fire magic via refining.

Use[]

FFVIII Fire

Casting Fire.

Fire has a spell power of 18 when cast, meaning its damage is calculated as:

[1]

It is cast as a spell in the Magic command, Selphie's Slot Limit Break, or Rinoa's Angel Wing if she has it in her inventory.

Casting Fire in battle increases compatibility with Ifrit by 1, but lowers compatibility with Shiva by 0.8 and with Eden by 0.2.

Prior to obtaining Fira and Firaga, Fire is a useful spell to junction against enemies weak to Fire, or to resist against enemies with Fire attacks. Early on, it is also useful for junctioning to boost Strength and deal more damage.

Later, Fire is best refined into Fira using Mid Mag-RF, as it is quickly outclassed.

Enemies that use the spell against the player are Bomb, Buel, Elvoret, Funguar, G-Soldier, Geezard, Hexadragon, Ifrit, Jelleye, Sorceress (A), and Wedge. It is not much of a threat however, and in the beginning of the game the player does not yet have access to elemental junctions, Shell or Reflect to mitigate damage.
