Firaja (ファイジャ, Faija?, lit. Fija), also known as Fire 4 and Fire IV, is a recurring tier four Fire-elemental spell which deals massive damage.
Overview[]
Black magick that envelops targets in ferocious flames.
Description in Final Fantasy Tactics.
Firaja is the third, and often final, upgraded form of the default Fire Black Magic. The spell made its first appearance in the series in Final Fantasy Tactics, being the last fire-elemental Black Magick spell for Black Mages. Since its original appearance, Firaja has had a handful of appearances in the mainline entries, appearing more in side titles.
Firaja deals a massive amount of fire damage to targets, unleashing a chain of explosions on enemies. Most titles give the spell the ability to target multiple enemies, with only some entries having it be a single target spell. Final Fantasy XII and the Crystal Chronicles titles give Firaja the ability of inflicting status ailments on the damaged targets. Undead and plants are usually weak to Firaja, while fire-based enemies will be healed if struck by it.
A recurring trait of Firaja is its association with summoned monsters, with the most recurring users being Belias and Ifrit. In addition, Firaja is sometimes not usable by players, but instead a powerful spell used by bosses or high leveled enemies.
Due to spells often attempting to use four katakana characters in Japanese, the spell is known as Fija (ファイジャ, Faija?). Fire is spelled as

Other Square Enix titles[]
Firaja has appeared in other Square Enix titles as an ability, referencing the Final Fantasy spell.
Firaja appears in the Bravely series as a recurring spell, often appearing in titles associated with the first Bravely Default. It serves as the strongest type of Fire magic, being used by Belphegor, who first appeared in Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light.
Firaja has also appeared in the Kingdom Hearts series, serving as the strongest fire magic in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-. However the name is exclusively used in the English localization, as the ability is actually the recurring Firagun (ファイガン, Faigan?, lit. Figun) ability in Japanese. This tier usage was abandoned in Kingdom Hearts III, where the ability was localized as Firaza, following the tier name introduced in the English versions of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance.
