  • By his penetrating gaze, you have a feeling that Jalzahn has further plans for your relic weapon.
  • According to Jalzahn, your relic weapon is presently not benefiting fully from the soul energy it holds. The problem, he posits, lies in the unattuned state of that energy to its host. Having struck a wall in his search for a solution, Jalzahn bids you recruit the assistance of the ill-tempered weaponsmith Gerolt.
  • Owing to your quick thinking, Gerolt has reluctantly agreed to lend his expertise to your cause. Deliver the good tidings to Jalzahn.
  • In an unlikely alliance, Jalzahn and Gerolt have devised the means by which your weapon may be further enhanced. It seems that, by rendering the relic aethertight by way of a special glaze, you will be able to attune its soul energy through normal use. Speak with Jalzahn when you are ready to begin the process.
  • Jalzahn has entrusted you the care of Gerolt's Zodiac glass. Present to him the relic you wish enhanced, and he will coat it in soulglaze. ※Should you misplace the Zodiac glass, you may obtain a new one by speaking with Drake at Hyrstmill.

Journal

  • His brow furrowed, Jalzahn seems deep in thought about the Zodiac Braves' arms.
  • Far though you have come in your journey to complete your relic weapon, Jalzahn feels as though there is yet more to do. However, he is admittedly stumped about exactly how to proceed. He entreats you to consult with Gerolt, that the three of you might discover a new path to take.
  • Through the promise of fiery liquor, you have secured Gerolt's promise of aid. Return to Jalzahn with the glad tidings.
  • Gerolt believes that your relic has become so refined that nothing can enhance it further. Instead, he proposes that the next step upon your journey towards the Zodiac Brave's arms is to recreate one's frame, and infuse it with the soul bound to your current relic. To those ends, he bids you seek four items: - Literature on the Zodiac Weapons: seek out a merchant who deals in ancient tomes. - Material for a new host: seek a master of crafting and gathering. - Special sphere scroll: seek a scholar well versed in materia. - Special alexandrite: seek a treasure hunter known for collecting precious stones. ※Upon collecting all four items, return to Hyrstmill and deliver them to Gerolt.

Patch2.45

Journal

  • Papana is grumbling to herself about ancient tomes and a lack of custom.
  • The garrulous Papana reveals that she is in Revenant's Toll to free her old associate G'jusana from the shackles of heavy debt. To that end, the bookseller will part with a rare tome which details the Zodiac Weapons, but only if you can furnish her with the following rare items: a Bronze Lake crystal, a Bombard core, and a bottle of sacred spring water. The first of these may be found in the vicinity of the lake of its namesake.
  • Having painstakingly obtained the requested items, you return to Papana only to find that their quality is not to her satisfaction. Judging them insufficient payment for the book, Papana further asks you fetch her a horn of the beast which prowls Dzemael Darkhold, and a gobmachine bangplate from Brayflox's Longstop. ※Dzemael Darkhold and Brayflox's Longstop (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • Through great effort, you have obtained the goods Papana requested. Make your way back to Revenant's Toll and present them to her.
  • Upon returning to Papana, you are told that a wealthy collector seeks to buy the selfsame book you desire, and the competition has driven up the price of exchange. The Lalafellin shopkeep will now settle for nothing less than a Narasimha hide and a sickle fang, highly prized objects found only within Halatali and Snowcloak. ※Halatali (Hard) and Snowcloak can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • Through sheer perseverance, you have succeeded in obtaining the next set of items Papana has requested. Make your way back to Revenant's Toll, and pray that your toils are finally over.
  • Your prayers go unanswered, for Papana has yet another request to make of you. Rowena, the bookseller explains, has tasked her with incinerating those tomes that are unfit to sell, and only when this chore is finished can she turn her attention back to you. If you would obtain your book, suppress your desire to scream, and bring Papana a high-quality furnace ring and a bundle of perfect firewood. ※Certain ingredients required to craft these items can be obtained by desynthesizing aged goods sold at the Silver Bazaar.
  • The items for igniting books now in her hands, Papana apologizes for having taken advantage of you. In wistful tones, she tells you of her misspent youth, and of her admiration and respect for G'jusana. Thanking you for your part in helping her dear friend get closer to financial freedom, Papana presents you with the object of your desire: the Book of Skylight. With the knowledge held within, Gerolt may now faithfully recreate such an arm as was wielded by the Zodiac Braves of legend. ※If you have obtained all four items requested by Gerolt, you may return to Hyrstmill to have your Zodiac Weapon forged.

Patch2.45

Journal

  • Trunk-like arms akimbo, Guiding Star seems to radiate a deep understanding of crafting.
  • His passion for crafting stirred by news of your quest to restore the arm of a Zodiac Brave, Guiding Star sets about devising a compound capable of becoming the weapon's frame. He lights upon Allagan resin as the ideal base for such a substance, and bids you scour southern Thanalan's markets for a lump of the stuff.
  • With an excited light in his eyes, Guiding Star accepts the Allagan resin, remarking that no other material in Eorzea is so mutable. Now that you have secured the substance's base, he goes on, an ore known as vale bubo is required to grant it rigidity, as well as a piece of voidweave to lend it a measure of suppleness. To procure such seldom-seen materials, you will have no choice but to brave the horrors of the Aurum Vale and Haukke Manor respectively. ※The Aurum Vale and Haukke Manor (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • The threats of the Vale and voidsent are at your back, and the vale bubo and voidweave safely in your possession. Deliver them now to Guiding Star in Revenant's Toll.
  • Now in possession of the wherewithal to make his proposed compound indurate and supple, Guiding Star's thoughts turn to imbuing it with elegance and beauty. He feels a slip of Amdapor vellum from the lost city will lend the former, and an Indigo pearl from Sastasha the latter. As ever, it would seem you will have to risk all if you are to reap the rewards... ※The Lost City of Amdapor and Sastasha (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • After shedding no small amount of blood, sweat, and tears, you now grasp a piece of Amdapor vellum and an Indigo pearl. Make your way back to Revenant's Toll, where it is to be hoped far fewer perils await.
  • All four ingredients now in his hands, Guiding Star thanks you for your tireless labor, and explains the next step: grinding the materials together to intermingle their powers. Alas, his puny mixing instruments are apparently incapable of withstanding the titanic forces which will be released in the process. Accordingly, he bids you find the only tools equal to the task: a perfect mortar and pestle, both of high quality. ※Certain ingredients required to craft these items can be obtained by desynthesizing aged goods sold at the Silver Bazaar.
  • You hand the perfect tools to Guiding Star, who is nigh salivating at the prospect of using them. Though his thanks are as effusive as ever, you sense that yet another request is in the offing─and are swiftly proved right when the craftsman tasks you with two further acquisitions: a Bombard core to heat the compound, and a bottle of sacred spring water to cool it afterwards.
  • All ingredients assembled, Guiding Star now sets to work crafting. Sweat streaming over a brow deeply furrowed with concentration, you watch as he grinds, hammers, heats, and cools. The result is zodium, a material of unsurpassed bonding perfect for recreating your arm of yore. Handing the material to you with a joyous laugh, the craftsman thanks you for giving him the chance to make something so wondrous, and prays the Builder Himself will give you success in remaking your arm of legend. ※If you have obtained all four items requested by Gerolt, you may return to Hyrstmill to have your Zodiac Weapon forged.

Patch2.45

Journal

  • Adkin's unwavering stare suggests he would have words with you.
  • After explaining your relic predicament, Adkin pronounces that he will craft a unique sphere scroll to win himself glory in Master Mutamix's eyes. He supposes that an ink distilled from the regal blood of four beings can contain the power of the materia you propose. The scholar bids you first slay “the king disfigured” in the Wanderer's Palace, and gather the blood it sheds. ※The Wanderer's Palace can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • You have procured a vial of tonberry king blood. Now present it to Adkin at the Bonfire.
  • Adkin accepts the vial with untoward glee. Next, he asks you to obtain the blood of “the king imprisoned” in Copperbell Mines. ※Copperbell Mines (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • The leader of the hecatoncheires is no more, and the vial of royal gigant blood is in your hands. Return now to the Bonfire and offer it to Adkin.
  • Your latest prize now delivered to Adkin for distillation, the scholar now entreats you to drain the lifeblood of “the king unchained” on Hullbreaker Isle. ※Hullbreaker Isle can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • You have released the kraken soul from its body and kept its blood as your prize. Adkin no doubt eagerly awaits its delivery at the Bonfire.
  • You give the vial of kraken blood to an excited Adkin. All that is left is to obtain the life force of “the king forgotten,” found within the Sunken Temple of Qarn where it is said to animate the very stone statues therein. ※The Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • You have obtained a vial of vicegerent blood. Return with it to Adkin at the Bonfire.
  • After taking the last vial of blood, Adkin confidently promises he can concoct an ink of unparalleled aetherial conductivity for your sphere scroll. However, he lacks for a proper paper and the means to keep the ink adhered to it. Thus, he bids you procure and deliver a high-quality page of perfect vellum and a pinch of perfect pounce. ※Certain ingredients required to craft these items can be obtained by desynthesizing aged goods sold at the Silver Bazaar.
  • Delivery of the requested goods seems to agitate Adkin, and he reveals his ink is lacking in the proper consistency and color. However, he also claims that it is complete but for a Bombard core to purify the blood, sacred spring water to suspend the distillation within, and furite sand found near Ishgardian castles to increase aetherial conductivity. Find and deliver all three.
  • With every ingredient for both scroll and ink in hand, Adkin triumphantly fashions a Zodiac scroll. He gives it to you with a few words of encouragement on your quest to recreate a legendary arm, all the while crowing that his achievement will bring him all the closer to becoming Master Mutamix's favorite disciple. ※If you have obtained all four items requested by Gerolt, you may return to Hyrstmill to have your Zodiac Weapon forged.

  • Brangwine seems in a world to herself.
  • Brangwine is more than willing to give you the flawless alexandrite her son found... in exchange for a few things. The first is a Bombard core to heat her bath, and the second is a bottle of sacred spring water for stain removal. The last is a fine brass kettle of the type fashionable in the North Shroud. Obtain all three to warm her heart.
  • Brangwine takes what you have brought her not with a smile, but with a sigh. Though she wishes to leave Ealdwine money enough to settle down, she worries he never will have the chance. Treasure hunting is, after all, a dangerous business, and so the mother insists you make way to western La Noscea, and persuade her boy to give it up.
  • No less soused or stubborn than usual, Ealdwine refuses to stop treasure hunting until he finds his one, big score. Help him do so by searching Amdapor Keep, Pharos Sirius, and the Tam-Tara Deepcroft for lost treasure. ※Amdapor Keep, Pharos Sirius, and the Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • Dirty and tired, you nevertheless now have the three treasure coffers. Return to Swiftperch so that Ealdwine might pry them open.
  • You watch as Ealdwine lifts the lids of coffers not opened for an age... only to find worthless junk inside. Never one to lose heart for long, though, the treasure hunter lets you in on another tip: there may be another great treasure lost in the Stone Vigil. Go now and see if there is any truth to Ealdwine's claim. ※The Stone Vigil (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • The treasure of the Stone Vigil is lost no more. Return with it to Swiftperch, and hope that this, too, is not filled with rubbish.
  • Excited as a little boy, Ealdwine pries opens the lost treasure from the Stone Vigil. However, once again, he finds nothing but junk. Ealdwine then proclaims he cannot give up treasure hunting yet. However, so as to not to leave you completely empty-handed, he imparts the way to his mother's heart: high-quality tailor-made eel pie and a piece of perfect cloth. Obtain these and return to Revenant's Toll. ※Certain ingredients required to craft these items can be obtained by desynthesizing aged goods sold at the Silver Bazaar.
  • You could not fulfill your part of the bargain, and Ealdwine remains a treasure hunter. Nonetheless, Brangwine is so pleased with her eel pie and fine fabric that she gives you the piece of flawless alexandrite anyway. With patience and persistence, she reasons, she will make her son give up treasure hunting. ※If you have obtained all four items requested by Gerolt, you may return to Hyrstmill to have your Zodiac Weapon forged.

But whether such an outrageous thing is even possible remains to be seen. To find out, Gerolt bids you seek the counsel of Master Mutamix at the Bonfire.

  • Jalzahn wears a bittersweet smile upon his face, one that would suggest a parting is in the offing.
  • After expressing his gratitude, Jalzahn informs you he will return to his native Radz-at-Han ere long. However, he has one last favor to ask of you: deliver a bottle of Sunshine─an incomparable liquor distilled in the alchemist's very own cellarage─to Gerolt as a gift.
  • Though he would have preferred to receive the liquor from Jalzahn in person, Gerolt unsurprisingly accepts the present. Much to your surprise, however, the smith reveals that there is yet work to be done─awakening sentience itself within your Zodiac Weapon. Indeed, it would seem the arms of legend consciously bonded with the soul of their bearers. Upon overhearing this, Jalzahn pledges to postpone his homewards journey. He posits that certain varieties of crystal can transfer a sense─a fragment of consciousness─via soul resonance, and thereby awaken the sentience slumbering within your weapon. To obtain these crystals, Gerolt tasks you with obtaining an introduction to Remon, a man of the black market, from Rowena in Revenant's Toll. Go now and speak with her.
  • According to Rowena, Remon holds an old grudge against Gerolt─the result of an unpaid loan─and will not deal with any friend of the blacksmith without an apology from the man himself. Return to Hyrstmill and inform Gerolt of this, and that Remon resides in his “usual haunt.”
  • According to Gerolt, Remon's bitterness stems not from the loan unpaid, but rather from a love unrequited─though he will say no more on the subject. Jalzahn urges Gerolt to make his amends with a gift: the bottle of Sunshine. Once you, too, have added your voice to the proceedings, Gerolt reluctantly gives up his prized liquor. Take the bottle of Sunshine and seek out Remon in Swiftperch.
  • Remon, a fellow with many, many connections, has anticipated your coming. He accepts Gerolt's apology, and offers to trade you mahatma in exchange for aught that will profit Rowena. Speak to him again when you wish to begin your dealings.

He wishes to learn more of the tome's origins for his own erudition, and asks that you accompany him to question Gerolt. Speak with the blacksmith, and help the alchemist solve this lingering mystery.
  • Upon consulting Gerolt, you learn that it was Jalzahn's ancient forefather who penned the Book of Netherdark. Moreover, you discover that the author left as his legacy the title of “Starforger” to the person who could succeed in fully recreating a legendary arm of yore. Gerolt and Jalzahn, both desirous of this, allow their pride to tear them apart. Speak with Jalzahn now, to discover if the matter has been resolved.

  • Gerolt appears to be in a spot of bother.
  • Busy as ever with his kettle mending, Gerolt the weaponsmith would have you entertain an unexpected guest in his stead. Do as bade and speak with the visitor, an elderly gentleman by the name of Jalzahn.
  • Hailing from the Near Eastern city-state of Radz-at-Han, Jalzahn reveals himself to be none other than the genius mind behind Thavnairian mist, the elixir which you used to enhance your relic. According to the alchemist, your weapon can be raised to new heights of power through the use of crystalline objects he calls atma. Twelve unique pieces are required, and these can be obtained by equipping a relic weapon zenith and participating in FATEs in the following regions: - Central Shroud: Atma of the Maiden - Southern Thanalan: Atma of the Scorpion - Upper La Noscea: Atma of the Water-bearer - East Shroud: Atma of the Goat - Eastern Thanalan: Atma of the Bull - Middle La Noscea: Atma of the Ram - Western Thanalan: Atma of the Twins - Outer La Noscea: Atma of the Lion - Lower La Noscea: Atma of the Fish - North Shroud: Atma of the Archer - Central Thanalan: Atma of the Scales - Western La Noscea: Atma of the Crab ※Upon collecting all pieces of atma, present them to Jalzahn to complete the enhancement process.

  • Jalzahn is a man with grand plans for your relic weapon.
  • According to Jalzahn, your relic weapon still has room to grow. If you would enhance it further, you must recreate the valorous deeds of the Zodiac Braves, revered heroes in Thavnairian legend. So as to take the guesswork out of the process, Jalzahn suggests you acquire the “Trials of the Braves,” a collection of sacred texts that tell of the heroes' deeds. As a known vendor of such literature, perhaps Rowena will have the books in stock.
  • Rowena believes that she may have the literature you desire. She bids you take your inquiry to G'jusana, one among her burgeoning ranks of underlings.
  • Much to your delight, G'jusana has the full collection of the Trials of the Braves in stock, and offers to sell you each book for the bargain price of 100 . • Jalzahn believes that your relic weapon animus may yet grow stronger through the power of materia. Explaining that conventional melding will not work due to the preclusive presence of soul energy, the alchemist bids you consult the experts on the matter. Make your way to the Bonfire in central Thanalan, and speak with the goblin Mutamix.
  • Mutamix introduces you to his new disciple, Hubairtin, who he says is attempting to extract the power of materia. Speak with the man and learn of his research.
  • Hubairtin seeks to overcome the limits of advanced materia melding by converting the power of materia into a form of light energy. Recognizing the benefits of collaboration, the excitable young arcanist bids you procure three bottles of superior enchanted ink. The ink can be had from none other than your favorite merchant, Rowena, at Revenant's Toll.
  • Rowena has plenty of superior enchanted ink in stock, and offers to sell you bottles of it in exchange for Allagan tomestones. Acquire three such bottles, and present them to Hubairtin at the Bonfire.

  • Jalzahn is impressed by Hubairtin's ingenuity, and expresses confidence that he will be able to finish what the young arcanist has started. For now, it falls to you to fully infuse the sphere scroll. If you would wield a mightier relic, see the deed done, then present the scroll to Jalzahn. ※Each materia infusion requires the use of alexandrite, a catalyst yielded from treasure coffers whose locations are marked on mysterious maps. ※Mysterious maps can be obtained from Auriana at Revenant's Toll in exchange for Allagan tomestones, or by completing a certain quest. Alexandrite may also be obtained by participating in FATEs while equipped with your relic weapon (animus or beyond). ※The enhancement process will raise your relic weapon animus's strength, dexterity, vitality, intelligence, and mind attributes to a value befitting gear of item level 110.
