  • Alphinaud is a man with a great deal on his mind.
  • Ilberd's assault on Baelsar's Wall and subsequent summoning of the primal now known as “Shinryu” left the Eorzean Alliance with little choice but to occupy Castrum Oriens─an act almost certain to be interpreted as the prelude to a full-scale invasion. Yet if the Alliance must go to war, it would not do so alone. General Raubahn Aldynn has asked that the Scions of the Seventh Dawn secure the support of the Ala Mhigan Resistance, that they might join forces with the Alliance and drive the legions of Garlemald from Eorzea once and for all. This formal request for aid was not unanticipated, and you and your fellow Scions take little time to reach a consensus. To Ala Mhigo you will go─with Lyse to lead the way, given her ties to the Resistance.
  • As you are preparing to leave the Rising Stones, you are met by Yugiri and Gosetsu. The pair have resolved to return to the nation of Doma, in the Far East, to aid their comrades in the fight against Garlemald. Though your battlefields are a thousand malms apart, your purpose is one and the same, and so you bid them farewell, hoping that you might meet again one day to celebrate the liberation of two lands.
  • From Amarissaix's Spire, you and your fellow Scions look on Baelsar's Wall, and Castrum Oriens. Beyond them lies Gyr Abania, which has languished under imperial rule for twenty long years...
  • The serpent officer knows you at once. His man stands ready to escort you to the Wall, where the soldiers of four great nations have gathered in preparation for a long and bloody campaign.
  • At last you come to the fringes of Gyr Abania. To a new war─to a new front line. In the command center, the Flame General pores over a stack of maps, deliberating his next move.
  • Raubahn welcomes you warmly to Castrum Oriens, and restates his position that the Alliance will not advance further without the cooperation of the Ala Mhigan Resistance. As you make ready to depart on your mission, Cid Garlond appears and apprises you of the latest developments in the search for Omega and Shinryu: namely, that there have not been any, the fate and whereabouts of both remaining unknown. All the more reason to secure the support of the Resistance, then, as the Ironworks search parties cannot safely venture any deeper into occupied territory...

  • Conrad knows the purpose of your visit, and would like to give you a proper welcome.
  • Conrad Kemp, the commander of the Ala Mhigan Resistance in Rhalgr's Reach, understands that you have important matters to discuss, and would not do so on their doorstep. He motions for you and the others to follow him deeper into the hidden sanctuary.
  • The commander listens patiently as Alphinaud explains the details of the Eorzean Alliance's proposal. Together they would expel the imperial presence from Gyr Abania─or as Conrad wryly puts it, “engage them by proxy” with the vastly inferior forces of the Resistance. In any event, such weighty decisions cannot be made lightly, and the commander and his officers will need time to reach a consensus.

  • Before she tells you of her mission, M'naago has a few things she would like to say.
  • After thanking the Scions for nursing her back to health, M'naago explains that she has been tasked with delivering Commander Kemp's formal reply to General Aldynn. Given the importance of this mission, she requests that you escort her to Castrum Oriens, prompting Alisaie to volunteer as well.
  • Having put your affairs in order, you leave Rhalgr's Reach with M'naago and Alisaie. If the gods are good, your journey through the Fringes should be quick and uneventful...
  • Gesturing for you and Alisaie to halt, M'naago informs you that she heard a ceruleum engine backfiring─a sure sign that an imperial patrol is close by. The three of you duly split up, hoping to take your enemies by surprise, and prevent them from summoning reinforcements.
  • You ambush and destroy the magitek armor M'naago overheard. Though you have no reason to believe that your comrades fared any differently, you cannot be certain until you rejoin them.
  • As expected, you find your comrades none the worse for wear. M'naago tells you that most soldiers in Gyr Abania are conscripts from other provinces. Poorly trained and lacking in morale, they rarely pose a threat in small numbers. Nevertheless, she cautions you against pitying them, as they are just as capable of killing your comrades as more motivated foes.

  • Raubahn knows exactly what he would like you to do.
  • Having resolved to carry out Vice Marshal Tarupin's plan to destroy prototype magitek weapons, General Aldynn is eager to begin at once. He bids you lie in wait for an imperial patrol near Castrum Oriens and slaughter the soldiers in order to goad the Garleans into a response.
  • The trap has been baited with dead imperials. Raubahn and the others are already in position, waiting for you and the prototype weapons to arrive.
  • The imperial officer charged with overseeing the field testing of the prototype magitek weapons is none other than Grynewaht, the brutish Roegadyn whom you faced on the Carteneau Flats. Needless to say, he is surprised to see you in Gyr Abania, but eager to seize the opportunity for revenge.
  • Though Grynewaht sends wave after wave of imperial soldiers and magitek against you and your comrades, it is not enough. As the smoldering wreck of his beloved weapon belches smoke into the sky, the imperial officer flees, leaving the combined force of Alliance regulars and Resistance fighters to celebrate a momentous victory.
  • The operation is a resounding success. Not only were the imperials humiliated and their magitek destroyed, but your allies suffered no casualties in the process. Thoroughly satisfied with this outcome, Commander Kemp and General Aldynn exchange a few words before withdrawing to their respective headquarters.

  • Meffrid cannot help but wonder if you remember who he is.
  • Meffrid, whom you first met in Quarrymill what feels like a lifetime ago, tells you of the twists and turns his life has taken since─how he dissolved his unit of Resistance fighters in Gridania and resolved to return to Gyr Abania and join Conrad's people in Rhalgr's Reach. Having subsequently risen to a position of responsibility, he has been tasked with finding new recruits, and wishes to pay a visit to the village of Ala Gannha─Lyse's birthplace. Upon learning of this, she insists that she be allowed to accompany you, and Meffrid sees no reason to deny her.
  • After being informed of your purpose, the sentry guarding the tunnel to the Peaks quickly removes the barricade. Meffrid bids you lead the way.
  • As the glamour obscuring the tunnel to the Peaks dissolves, you find yourselves standing in the ruins of an old temple. Your comrades pause to consider their surroundings, and a frown darkens Meffrid's brow...
  • Lyse explains that the temple in whose shattered midst you now stand was razed not by the Garleans but by the mad king, Theodoric, in the chaos that preceded the imperial invasion. Noting the glamour which surrounds the ruins, Meffrid reminds you that there will be nothing to conceal your presence once you leave, and advises caution as you proceed east towards Ala Gannha.
  • Far to the southeast, Lyse spies a colossal tower rivaling Castellum Velodyna. An unwelcome reminder of the Empire's suffocating presence, you make an effort to put it from your thoughts as you press on towards Ala Gannha.
  • You arrive at the village of Ala Gannha at last, and outside its gates Meffrid explains why Conrad identified the settlement as a promising source of new recruits. Several youths hailing from Ala Gannha were said to have lost their lives at the Wall, and it is possible that others in the village may be sympathetic to the Resistance's cause. That said, openly broaching the subject would be unwise, given the risk of being overheard by imperial sympathizers...

  • Lyse has never been one to ignore her conscience.
  • Though you saved Wercrata from a grisly end at the hands─or more accurately the jaws─of the Qiqirn, you barely had a moment to speak with him before he fled the Ziggurat, exclaiming that he had to deliver the tributum in his care to the imperials. Needless to say, Lyse is reluctant to let him go, and insists that you follow the poor man─not to interfere, but simply to see that he makes it safely to his destination.
  • You spy a feather in the dirt, which Meffrid confirms is from Wercrata's chocobo. By his reckoning, the villager headed west past a collapsed bridge. Fortunately, there are plenty of places from which you should be able to observe Wercrata discreetly...
  • From a distance, you observe Wercrata meeting with the Skulls─a unit of Ala Mhigan conscripts, judging by their accents. The encounter soon turns violent, with the soldiers beating the prostrate villager while simultaneously berating him for defying the imperials and giving them reason to mistrust all Ala Mhigans. Unable to bear the injustice, Lyse rises to intervene but is stopped by Meffrid, who tells her that saving the man would only invite reprisals against his family, if not his whole village. For a mercy, the Skulls' commander eventually orders them to stop, as they are needed elsewhere. Wercrata will live to see another day.
  • It sickens Meffrid to the soul to see his countrymen doing the bidding of the viceroy. But they have made their choice, and he is prepared to cut down every last one of them if it comes to it.

  • Conrad wishes to thank you for all you have done in such a short time.
  • In the midst of your meeting with Commander Kemp, Alphinaud arrives with several other Scions of the Seventh Dawn who have apparently expressed a desire to fight for the Ala Mhigan Resistance, including one Arenvald Lentinus, whom you recall from your first days in the Waking Sands. Conrad welcomes his new allies warmly, and states that when the other new recruits have received sufficient training, he will propose a joint assault on Castellum Velodyna to General Aldynn.

  • Pipin is looking forward to the assault on Castellum Velodyna.
  • Mindful that intelligence is the key to any successful operation, Pipin would have you, Alphinaud, and Alisaie accompany him on a reconnaissance mission. Your destination is a cliff to the north of Castellum Velodyna, which should afford you an excellent view of the imperial installation.
  • Your mission is interrupted by the sound of cannon fire from the east. You turn to see a column of smoke on the horizon... rising from Rhalgr's Reach, you realize, with dawning horror. Alphinaud's attempts to contact your comrades via linkpearl are unsuccessful, all but confirming your suspicions that a coordinated attack is underway. With no other recourse, you abort your mission and race back to the Resistance stronghold. Outside Rhalgr's Reach, you encounter a number of fleeing Resistance fighters, as well as Krile and Arenvald. They tell you of the chaos within the valley, of imperial soldiers cutting people down left and right, and of a last desperate stand by Conrad and the others. His face grim, Alphinaud declares your place is in the Reach, and so, joined by Krile, you press on into the bloodbath.
  • Aided by your comrades, you manage to beat back the imperial forces and reach your comrades. Lyse is unharmed, and Conrad merely unconscious, but Y'shtola is on the verge of death, her lifeblood pooling beneath her prostrate form. You turn to confront the man who dealt the blow: Zenos yae Galvus, the imperial viceroy himself. Lamenting the disappointment that was your comrades' performance, he raises his blade and bids you entertain him. Though you endure Zenos's onslaught far longer than Pipin and Alisaie, even you are no match for him. With a flourish, the viceroy sends you flying─the only testament to your resilience the broken blade he flings to the earth as he turns his back on you and walks away. Raubahn and his Immortal Flames soon arrive, but he has seen enough death for one day, and orders his men to let the imperials withdraw and instead attend to the wounded.
  • After taking in the carnage in silence, Raubahn reminds you that your actions saved lives, and that you should remember that, no matter what happens. Yet having come face-to-face with the crown prince himself, having seen the superhuman feats of which he is capable, you know exactly what it is that you will remember...

  • Lyse thinks it is time you returned to Limsa Lominsa.
  • Having spoken with the Doman refugees of Revenant's Toll, you have gained a greater understanding of their homeland, as has Lyse. Duly educated, you depart for Limsa Lominsa, where Captain Carvallain and the crew of the Misery are preparing for your journey to the other side of the world.
  • Returned from their various errands, Alphinaud and the others may board the ship at any time. As is all too often the case, however, Alphinaud elects to let you “do the honors” and inform the deckhand of you and your comrades' readiness.
  • Before you and Alisaie board the Misery, Urianger arrives bearing a cryptic warning and a practical gift: a rapier made for your young companion. Moved by the gesture, her steely demeanor softens, and you sense that the rift between the two may have finally begun to heal. Alas, there is no time for further conversation, as Carvallain declares that it is time to depart. The voyage is smooth and almost entirely uneventful... Almost. On a day like any other, while conversing with your comrades and the captain below deck, the ship lurches violently. Moments later a deckhand barges into the room, speaking of strange things in the water, and a mysterious force dragging the Misery off course. With a sigh, Carvallain goes to investigate─but not before asking you to join him.
  • Though he puts no stock in Sea Wolf superstitions and faerie tales, Carvallain explains to you that the “things” in the water his sailors refuse to name are the souls of deceased women said to lure sailors to their deaths. Though the very thought is enough to cause Alphinaud considerable distress, Alisaie flatly concludes that whatever the cause of your troubles, you have no recourse but to surrender to the current, let it take the Misery where it will, and deal with whatever you find there. Carvallain duly agrees, and the matter is settled. Once you arrive at your unknown destination, most will stay with the ship, but you and the fellow adventurers that you had the wisdom and foresight to invite to accompany you on this long journey to the Far East will proceed ashore and seek out the fiend responsible for your troubles. ※The Sirensong Sea can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • With the demise of the mysterious being the sailors call Lorelei, the clouds part, leaving you and your comrades free to resume your journey aboard the Misery. But what wonders await you in distant Kugane?
  • As the ship sails into port, you and your comrades line the deck, marveling at the many colors of the city. From the corner of your eye you spy Lyse, standing apart from the others, her lips moving silently. A prayer or an oath, perhaps. But it is not for you to know...

  • Lyse is about ready to give up.
  • Your search for passage across the Ruby Sea, as well as information regarding the whereabouts of Yugiri and Gosetsu, has come to a standstill. When presented with Alphinaud's masterful sketch, the few who do not refuse to answer your questions outright will tell you only that they turned the Roegadyn samurai away. Defeated, Lyse is poised to return to the Ruby Bazaar, before remembering a final name on the list provided by Hancock: Gyodo, a Namazu said to frequent the Shiokaze Hostelry.
  • The short and supercilious Gyodo claims not only to have met with your Doman friends, but to have helped them secure passage on a ship to Othard. He is more than willing to do the same for you, provided you can pay an exorbitant and undisclosed price. Though eager to proceed, Lyse says she needs time to consult with the others, and Gyodo duly agrees. He warns you to hurry, however, as all must be arranged by nightfall.
  • Back at the Ruby Bazaar, your all-too-promising lead is greeted with skepticism, for Gyodo and his ilk enjoy a less than stellar reputation. Your comrades quickly conclude that the Namazu is attempting to lure you into a trap... and that for lack of a better plan, you may as well spring it.
  • The plan is simple: you will accompany Alisaie and Lyse to the Tasogare Bridge, where you will meet with Gyodo as agreed, while Alphinaud observes from a distance. Should anything untoward happen, you will return to the Ruby Bazaar with all haste, making every effort to avoid an altercation with the Sekiseigumi.
  • Gyodo's sudden but inevitable betrayal comes as no surprise, but the enthusiasm with which Lyse boots him into the air does. Though you have little to fear from the ambushers themselves, the city full of samurai drawn by the sounds of your struggle could present a problem...
  • Perhaps suspecting you of being the agents of foreign powers, the Sekiseigumi dispatch several patrols to the Ijin District, preventing you from reaching the safety of the Ruby Bazaar. All seems lost until a mysterious Kojin appears and bids you hide while he directs your pursuers to another part of the city. Your path now clear, you return to Hancock, and at last learn the identity of your savior: Soroban, a Kojin of the Blue. The jovial beastman duly confesses that he did not aid you wholly out of the kindness of his heart. A merchant by trade, he seeks to broker an agreement with Hancock, who is more than happy to do so. All the while, the unconscious Gyodo that Lyse carried on her shoulder to the Ruby Bazaar twitches... but you will have your answers from him soon enough.
  • Though plainly still annoyed by the whole affair, Lyse seems satisfied that she managed to bring Gyodo back alive. That said, it may be prudent not to leave her alone with the Namazu, lest she be tempted to find out how much further she can kick him...

  • For a man who has just defeated ten samurai in a row, Gosetsu is looking rather sheepish...
  • Though Gosetsu ran afoul of the local peacekeepers in Kugane, he managed to win his freedom through a contest of strength mere moments before you and the others arrived to rescue him. Reunited at last, you inform your Doman comrade that you have found a captain willing to take you all across the Ruby Sea, but elect to save the details until you have returned to the Ruby Bazaar.
  • In the offices of the East Aldenard Trading Company, Gosetsu reveals that he and Yugiri parted ways some while ago, hoping to improve their chances of finding Lord Hien, the missing heir to the Doman throne. Even after it became clear that the rebellion was doomed, it would seem the young lord resolved to remain and fight on with Gosetsu at his side. Alas, in the ensuing chaos, the two became separated, and the samurai knows not what became of his master─only that he somehow survived, and that the Empire still seeks to make an example of him. Alphinaud then explains your purpose in coming to the Far East, and Gosetsu is overjoyed at the prospect of returning to Othard with new allies. Yet it would not be prudent for all to continue onwards, and so it is decided that Tataru and Alphinaud will remain, while you, Lyse, Alisaie, and Gosetsu go to meet Soroban at the docks.
  • Soroban has already seen to the necessary preparations in your absence, and is ready to depart Kugane whenever you and the others are.
  • Before you lies the vast expanse of the Ruby Sea, so named for the shade of crimson it turns with the morning sun. From the Ruby Price, the first line of defense for the port of Kugane, you can just make out the shape of Othard on the horizon, your final destination...
  • Soroban bids you bask in the glory and splendor that is the Ruby Sea. But before you can proceed further, certain customs must be observed...

  • Soroban is in high spirits.
  • Relieved that you will not judge him and his fellow Blue Kojin harshly for the deeds of the Red, Soroban is eager to take you the rest of the way to Othard. He leaves with the others to ready his ship, and bids you inform the Confederates of your impending departure.
  • The Confederate with whom you speak reiterates that there is no need to pay the Ruby Tithe, though he and the others should be glad if you would consider purchasing supplies before leaving the island.
  • All due preparations made, you set forth, and Sakazuki recedes into the distance as the eastern coastline of Othard grows larger. Recalling that Tansui spoke of Doma's viceroy “holding court” in one of the fishing villages, you come ashore some distance from Isari, in case it should chance to be the selfsame village.
  • Agreements fulfilled and debts paid, you part ways with Soroban, and turn your attentions to Isari, which you soon discover to be occupied by imperial forces. From afar, you catch your first glimpse of Yotsuyu, the imperial viceroy, and Grynewaht of all people, who seems none the worse for the trouncings you dealt him in Gyr Abania and Carteneau. To the disgust and horror of your comrades, Yotsuyu forces one villager to execute another, before having him shot for refusing to kill his own parents. Incensed, Gosetsu resolves to end the madness by surrendering himself into the viceroy's custody, reasoning that she will wish to question him thoroughly, giving you time to formulate a rescue plan. Despite your comrades' protestations, the samurai will not be swayed, and you can only watch as he is led away into the local tavern.
  • Though Alisaie is frustrated by this turn of events, she recognizes that what is done is done, and that you have no choice but to find a solution. Recalling that Gosetsu bade you seek aid at the mysterious tower to the northeast, she takes to the water with Lyse, and begins swimming for the isle of Onokoro.
  • As Alisaie laments a brief moment of Alphinaud-like exposition, massive beasts with big, nasty teeth emerge from the water and howl in rage. Others are soon drawn to the commotion, and since discretion is the better part of valor, your comrades resolve to run, fending the beasts off as they go. You, meanwhile, decide to deal with the first two beasts before following suit.
  • Ravenous beasts are rarely a challenge for you, and these are no exception. Doubtless Lyse and Alisaie fared just as well...
  • As expected, you find your comrades standing over several slain beasts, none the worse for wear. The tower is not far, and you can almost make out the banners, which look rather familiar even at this distance.
  • It would seem that Gosetsu intended for you to seek the aid of the Confederacy, as the large settlement─complete with its own aetheryte─appears to be under their control. But given what Tansui told you before, there is surely little chance that they will answer your call.

  • Soroban is about to show you a shining, shimmering, splendid new world.
  • The requisite items have been gathered and given to Soroban, and so he invites you to join him at the western edge of Tamamizu. There, where the water twists and turns on the surface of the dome, he will perform the ritual to let you traverse the depths as easily as any Kojin, that you might begin your search for the Yasakani-no-Magatama.
  • The deep, booming voice of Soroban resounds in your ears as he intones a sacred prayer to the kami of the deep. With a flash of light, it is done, and you are told you can breathe underwater as you would on land. Alisaie's skepticism turns to amazement once she passes through the portal and finds herself in open water, completely at ease. Yet that is not all, for Soroban then summons for you noble steeds of great strength. And so, with the aid of the striped rays, you embark on your journey to Sui-no-Sato.

  • Alisaie may not have the best plan, but she has the only one.
  • Your efforts to wreak havoc on the Isle of Zekki and draw the Red Kojin away from their imperial masters have exceeded all expectations. Unfortunately, for reasons beyond your knowing, two of the sacred treasures stored in the isle's vault “reacted” to the presence of the Yasakani-no-Magatama, summoning forth from the aether the great kami Susano─a primal by another name. Though you and your comrades initially fled to safety, it is plain that you cannot simply leave the kami be, and so Alisaie bids you return to the vault and do what you do best.
  • Before the vault door, you steel yourself for the impending confrontation. How fortunate that you had the wisdom and foresight to invite several of your fellow adventurers on this journey to the Far East, and how kind they were to agree to help you torment the Red Kojin, for no single warrior, no matter how blessed or powerful, could ever hope to slay a primal on her own, despite what some wandering minstrels would have you believe. ※The Pool of Tribute can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • The great kami is no more, and once again you part ways with your stalwart adventurer comrades, ever close at hand yet all too often forgotten. Alisaie and Lyse should not be hard to find─you need only listen for the sounds of battle.
  • You find your comrades still locked in combat with the Kojin of the Red. Alas, what the beastmen lack in individual strength they make up for in numbers. For each that falls, three emerge to fill the gap. Before you can join the fray, however, Alisaie steps forward, resolved to provide you and Lyse with an opening in which to escape. Grudgingly, you accept her invitation and depart for Isari, where it would seem the Confederacy have already begun their attack.
  • No sooner have you reached the beach south of Isari than Lyse declares her intention to return to the Isle of Zekki and help Alisaie. Though it was she who encouraged you to leave your young friend in the first place, the thought of losing another ally is more than she can bear... as is the shock of hearing Alisaie's voice coming from right behind her. Lyse whirls around and embraces the bemused girl, whose protests fall on deaf ears. Once all present have regained their composure, you press on to Isari.
  • Upon arriving in the village, you find no sign of the imperials, nor of any significant struggle. Did the Confederacy keep their end of the bargain, or did Yotsuyu and her men simply move on to the next settlement?

Despite his assurances, Gosetsu is clearly still troubled by the injuries he sustained from Grynewaht's brutal interrogation. Nevertheless, you decide to carry on and resume your journey to Yanxia.
  • Life. Liberty. Hope. All this and more have the Garleans tried to take from the Domans. Everywhere you look you are confronted by evidence of the failed rebellion and the vicious reprisals which followed. Yet the imperial soldiers are conspicuous by their absence...
  • Zenos had no desire to remain in Doma after he crushed the rebellion, and so he named Yotsuyu to serve in his stead. The acting viceroy waged an indiscriminate campaign of terror, marching into villages without warning and committing unspeakable atrocities in the name of rooting out “radical elements.” After a time, these purges ceased, but the memory remains, and with it the promise of punishment should the people resist. And so there is little need for imperial patrols.

  • Yugiri is troubled by what she has seen.
  • Before you and your comrades can settle upon a new course of action, Yugiri grows tense. Men in armor are approaching. She urges you and Lyse to come with her and find a place to hide.
  • From the shadows of a building you observe as a squadron of soldiers marches into Namai, led by the selfsame pilus who threatened Tansui in the Ruby Sea. He tells the gathered people of the battle between Confederate and imperial forces in Isari, declaring it a brazen, unconscionable act that will not go unanswered. Announcing that some will be required to serve the Garleans in rudimentary support roles for an indeterminate period of time, the pilus prior begins to select villagers one by one, ending with Isse, the young man who implored you to leave Namai and never return. Powerless to intervene without endangering the lives of the villagers, you and your comrades can only watch as the soldiers depart with their hostages.
  • After Yugiri convinces Lyse to return to the House of the Fierce to inform the others of this development, the ninja turns to you and states that you must hurry if you are to catch up to the soldiers.
  • Calling a halt, Yugiri reminds you that for the sake of the villagers, you must make every effort to refrain from needless violence. To that end, she furnishes you with a blowgun and darts that you can use to put imperial soldiers to sleep. One stands alone on a hill to the south─an ideal opportunity for practice.
  • The dart finds its mark, and the soldier crumples to the ground without a sound. Satisfied, Yugiri directs you to another vantage point from where you can take aim at the remaining soldiers in the unit.
  • Soon the ground is littered with snoring soldiers, and your path is clear to cross the river and rejoin Yugiri northwest of Fluminis.
  • Yugiri applauds your handiwork, and informs you that the soldiers in the nearby castrum remain unaware of your presence. Several guard the gate, and once more the ninja invites you to use your blowgun to incapacitate them while she stands watch for wayward patrols.
  • The sentries are dispatched as easily as those before them. You put away your blowgun and descend the hill to rejoin your comrade.
  • Free to advance, you and Yugiri approach the gates to Fluminis cautiously, uncertain what awaits you beyond the threshold...
  • Joined by people taken from other nearby villages, the people of Namai listen in disbelief as the pilus tells them that they will be tasked with the repair and maintenance of arms and armaments, as well as magitek devices. Needless to say, it would take years before they perform such duties effectively, and it finally dawns on the gathered Domans that they have been effectively sentenced to a life of servitude. The pilus departs for the castle, leaving the villagers in the care of his subordinates. You must act quickly if you are to save them, for once they are transported to the facility on the distant shore, there is no escape...

  • Yugiri has made her choice, and so have you.
  • Zenos yae Galvus has come to Doma, and Yugiri has resolved, over the protestations of your comrades, to assassinate him. You alone have agreed to support her in this endeavor, and so she shares with you Zenos's itinerary─how the vessel bearing him and his escort will come to the docks east of the Moon Gates, and how, after disembarking, they will continue towards Yuzuka Manor. The docks themselves are not an ideal location for an ambush, however, so the two of you split up to search for suitable hiding places.
  • You find a spot near the manor which should afford you a clear view of the docks. All that remains is to wait for the crown prince to arrive, and to attempt to take him unawares. Should you fail, you will have no choice but to engage him in open combat. But then a part of you would like that very much...
  • As before at the Reach, Zenos is a force of nature, relentless and unstoppable. Yet you have grown stronger since last you met, and for a time it seems as though you may have a chance... until your foe elects to bring a new katana to bear against you. At once, his body begins to crackle with a crimson energy, which bursts forth and fells both Yugiri and the viceroy's few remaining soldiers. You endure a moment longer, but soon join them in defeat.
  • As he stands over you in judgment, Zenos at last recognizes you as the champion of the savages in Ala Mhigo. Discarding his damaged helmet, he implores you to live on, to endure, to grow stronger, and to face him once more, before whirling about and putting an end to a last desperate attempt by Yugiri to kill him. He advances to finish her off, but pauses when confronted by a group of armed villagers, as well as Gosetsu and Alisaie, who are determined to save the ninja's life. It is a touching display of defiance, but having tasted the viceroy's might, you know that even with such numbers, they do not stand a chance. Nevertheless, Zenos withdraws without a word, leaving you and your comrades free to withdraw to safety.
  • It would seem that Yugiri owes her preservation to one Alphinaud Leveilleur, for it was he who convinced the others to rush to your defense. Alisaie takes great pleasure in describing his panic─as does Gosetsu in observing that she herself was no picture of calm...

  • Cirina knows where you might find Lord Hien.
  • Your search for the missing heir of Doma on the Azim Steppe has lead you to Cirina, a young woman of the Mol tribe. Long ago, guided by a vision received by her grandmother, she ventured into the southern mountains and there found Hien, near death. Cirina brought the Doman lord to her village, where they nursed him back to health, and there he has remained ever since, until such time as he can repay his debt to them. He often accompanies her to Reunion, though he has a habit of frequenting a spot atop the cliff to the east of the marketplace...
  • At long last you come face-to-face with the young heir to Doma's throne, who greets you as a friend. Yet even after you tell him of Doma's rekindled spirits, he states that he cannot go home─not until he has won the ceremonial battle known as the Naadam and thereby earned the right to bid the Xaela follow him to Doma. A daunting task, by any measure, but likely a necessary one, given the Liberation Front's depleted forces. Reluctantly, Yugiri departs to deliver the news to your comrades in the south, leaving you, Lyse, and Gosetsu to assist Lord Hien in his bold endeavor.
  • Being a man who puts great store by honor and respect, Hien thanks you once more for your many deeds in service to Doma. But he recognizes that you are also a practical woman, disinclined to listen to long speeches and flowery words, and would gladly tell you more of his plan to win the Naadam.

  • Hien is ready to undertake the challenge of Bardam's Mettle.
  • If you are to participate in the Naadam and fight alongside the Mol, you must first be recognized as a warrior of the Steppe. To earn this honor, you will be required to complete a rite of passage involving walking in the footsteps of the legendary hero Bardam and taming a yol. Each member of your party must do this by themselves, of course, and so you shall...

though if by pure coincidence some of your fellow adventurers happened to have made the long journey to the Far East, and simply insisted on accompanying you...

surely no one would be any the wiser. ※Bardam's Mettle can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • At the end of a strange and bewildering journey through Bardam's Mettle, you manage to tame a wild yol in the traditional fashion. Trial complete, you leave to rejoin your comrades.
  • Lyse emerges from the pass not long after you do, her trial also complete. However, there is still no sign of Hien or Gosetsu...
  • Suddenly recalling the whistles entrusted to her by Cirina, Lyse brings them forth, handing one to you. With a blow, you summon your respective yols, which circle in the skies above in acknowledgment of your new bond. There can be no doubt: you are now warriors of the Steppe.

  • Lyse would like very much to know that Hien and Gosetsu are all right.
  • Hien and Gosetsu finally emerge from Bardam's Mettle, triumphant and newly anointed as warriors of the Steppe like you and Lyse. But before you can rejoice in your accomplishment, you find yourself surrounded by a party of Oronir, their leader demanding that you return with him to meet with his khan. Hien considers this an opportunity to learn more of his foes and soon-to-be allies, and so you all agree to follow the Oronir to the Dawn Throne, where their khan awaits. The most radiant brother Magnai, leader of the Oronir and lord of the Dawn Throne, recognizes you as warriors of the Steppe. But there his respect ends. He demands that you acknowledge his supreme authority and pay tribute, and when Lyse and Hien balk at his presumption, his flash of anger makes clear that it may be wiser to humor the Oronir... for now.
  • Magnai is pleased to see you step forward first, and states that there is much to be done in preparation for the Naadam. The details of the duties he would demand from you, however, shall be given by Baatu, the warrior who commanded your escort from Bardam's Mettle.

  • Magnai has a new task in mind for you and yours.
  • You and your companions continue to enjoy the hospitality of the Oronir and their leader, the most radiant brother Magnai. As prisoners of the tribe, you have been coerced into performing menial tasks as expressions of tribute. Lord Hien, for his part, has treated the whole affair as an opportunity to learn more about your rivals in the Naadam. Alas, it seems he and Lyse will not be allowed to take part in your next duty─to reconnoiter the encampment of the Dotharl.
  • To encroach upon the territory of so infamous a tribe without first taking their measure would seem exceedingly unwise. Happily, if Gosetsu's map is to be believed, there is a colossal wreck to the south of the Dawn Throne from which the two of you should be able to survey Dotharl Khaa at a safe distance.
  • You observe two hunters beset by massive beasts. One falls before you can act, but the other may yet be saved...
  • You reach the embattled Xaela and slay the beasts in time to save his life. Alas, as you suspected, it is too late for his comrade. Moments later, you are confronted by Sadu, khatun of the Dotharl, who spares but a moment for her fallen kinsman before demanding to know who you are. She can barely contain her disdain when she learns you are friends of the Mol, though she affords you some token respect after you tell her of your intent to fight in the Naadam. For saving her fellow tribesman's life, she grants you leave to enter Dotharl Khaa, and then turns to leave─but not before telling the still-bleeding hunter to see to his comrade's corpse.
  • Though he recognizes Sadu as a woman not to be crossed, Gosetsu cannot contain his anger at the callous disregard she showed her own dead. Never one to bite his tongue, he seems intent on going after the khatun and giving her a piece of his mind.

  • The Naadam is nigh, and Cirina would have you make your final preparations.
  • The ceremonial battle for rulership over the Steppe, or Naadam, will commence with the rising of the sun, when the Gharl scatter the sacred soil, giving rise to a great ovoo. All will then converge upon this light, and the tribe which claims it will carry the day. Though you and your comrades are ready, Temulun Khatun tells you that some of the Mol warriors are not. Young and inexperienced in the ways of war, they would benefit from some encouragement from a veteran such as you.
  • Not all were made for war, and many of the Mol would sooner lay down their arms and tend to their herds. Nevertheless, their eyes burn with renewed purpose after you walk among them dispensing words of wisdom. Temulun Khatun will surely be pleased.
  • On the eve of the Naadam, the great and wise leader of the Mol addresses you and your comrades one final time, reminding you of the simple truth that violence lies at the heart of every Xaela─of every warrior of the Steppe. Delight not in such things, but do not deny them. Face yourself and your enemies without fear, and may the gods guide you to victory.
  • You and your comrades race across the Steppe to meet the other tribes in battle, and soon the soil of one and all is awash with Xaela blood. Yet somehow, from that crimson tempest emerges a victor. As the ovoo evaporates into motes of fading light, you stand a khagan crowned.
  • There is no time to celebrate the Mol's triumph in the Naadam, for Grynewaht suddenly appears at the head of an imperial squadron, and declares his intention to kill you once and for all. Yet in coming a moment too late, he faces a Steppe united. With the aid of the Oronir and the Dotharl, you slay the invaders and send Grynewaht on his way once more. But this is only the beginning of your alliance, for Hien succeeds in convincing the two tribes to travel south with him and fight for Doma's liberation.
  • Two battles won in a single day is reason to rejoice under any circumstances, but these carry special significance. By your deeds are Lord Hien and the Doman Liberation Front one step closer to freeing their home from the yoke of imperial oppression.

  • Lord Hien has his Xaela army, and is ready to return to Doma and lead his people to war against the Empire. Before he leaves the Azim Steppe behind, however, he would pay a visit to his new allies. The most radiant brother of the Oronir, who yet occupy the Dawn Throne, is to be first.
  • To everyone's relief, Magnai renews his vow to render aid to the Domans without a second thought. The mood is only slightly spoiled when he then begins to muse aloud about whether or not Cirina could be his long-sought moon. You leave soon after, eager to meet with Sadu and to put the awkward episode behind you.
  • Sadu too does not hesitate to reiterate that the Dotharl will gladly go to war for Lord Hien, and that they look forward to a glorious battle in which their souls will burn bright. All commitments reaffirmed, you resume your journey south towards a passage long sealed by the Dotharl's magicks, but no longer.
  • Crimson is the dusk and the dawn, death and rebirth. An ending to mark a new beginning. Echoing her earlier words, Cirina impresses upon you not to shirk your destiny, or to fear the storm of blood that awaits you, for in crimson there is life. In crimson there is liberation.

  • Alphinaud has devised a cunning strategy to reclaim Doma Castle.
  • In anticipation of Lord Hien's return, Alphinaud has developed a comprehensive strategy to retake Doma Castle. After Lyse and the Doman irregulars carry out a series of diversionary attacks, the Xaela will launch a surprise attack on the castle's airborne defenses. The twins and the shinobi will then disable the magitek field generators within the Dairyu Moon Gates, allowing the Confederate and Kojin naval forces to bombard the castle and secure the Doman Enclave. Finally, Lord Hien's main host will advance upon the castle and deal with the imperial forces within. Though Lord Hien seems satisfied with the plan, his hesitation does not go unnoticed...
  • Many tasks must be completed in advance of the attack, and Lord Hien would be glad of any assistance you can provide. As he has but recently returned, however, he knows not what these specific tasks are─but Alphinaud Leveilleur surely does.
  • Alphinaud lacks confidence in his ability to disable the field generators, and so he has turned to Cid nan Garlond, the foremost authority in the field of magitek. By way of Tataru in Kugane he has requested documentation on the devices in question. Given the importance of this information, he would be most grateful if you were to go to Kugane and collect it in person.
  • You are shocked to find Tataru a woman transformed, having taken after Hancock and dressed herself in the latest Hingan fashions. Flowing silks notwithstanding, she appears to have retained her classical charms─and hopefully the documentation you seek...

  • All hangs in the balance, as Hien well knows.
  • To win a war, one must be willing to do whatever is required, even if it means sacrificing the very thing one set out to reclaim. And thus did Lord Hien declare that Doma Castle should be flooded, to eliminate the greater portion of the imperial garrison and trap Yotsuyu within the keep. All preparations are complete. All participants are in position. All that remains is to wait.
  • Every stage of the plan is carried out to perfection, from the diversionary attacks to the Kojin's underwater demolition. From Monzen, you and your comrades observe as the river rushes into Doma Castle, drowning you know not how many soldiers within...
  • Your allies have set the stage, and now you must play your part. A Blue skiff captain awaits you down by the shore.
  • To increase your chances of reaching Yotsuyu, Hien proposes that you split into two groups. He, Gosetsu, and Yugiri will comprise one, while you and the wandering adventurers whom you had the wisdom and foresight to recruit to fight for Doma's liberation will comprise the other. The fate of a nation shall be decided this day─marshal your forces and venture unto the flooded fortress! ※Doma Castle can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • In the bowels of Doma Castle, you are greeted by an old friend: Grynewaht, driven mad by his quest for vengeance, and transformed into a twisted mass of steel and flesh. But whatever agonies he endured to gain his newfound strength, they are all for naught. After a pitched battle, he crumples to the ground, never to rise again.
  • At the top of the keep, you find Hien, Yugiri, and Gosetsu, who have Yotsuyu at their mercy. Invited to plead her case, she speaks of the many ways in which she was wronged by her countrymen...

and of the joy she one day found in their suffering. Listening to her tale, you recall your vision of her childhood, and almost begin to pity the woman...

only to find that she has been stalling for time. Unrepentant to the last, she gleefully reveals her plan to bring the keep down on your heads in a final suicidal act of defiance. With a thunderous roar, the ceiling comes crashing in, but when the dust finally settles, you find yourself and your comrades unharmed, for Gosetsu, blessed with indomitable strength as he is, has somehow managed to catch the massive debris that threatened to crush you. Alas, Yotsuyu too has survived, as you learn to your dismay when she fires upon the samurai, not stopping until her pistol is spent. As Gosetsu struggles to remain standing, he implores you and the others to leave while you still can...

  • Alphinaud is at a loss for words.
  • The castle has fallen, and the imperial occupation of Doma is at an end. But what of Gosetsu? Is there truly no hope? Alphinaud is unwilling to assume the worst, and so Soroban agrees to search the crumbling ruin. Alas, when he returns, he tells you that naught remained of the keep for him to search. Though he found no body, it seems all but impossible that the samurai survived...
  • Difficult though it is, you and your comrades must look to the future. Gosetsu would accept no less. The Domans who fought valiantly for their freedom are gathered in the enclave, and wait to receive their lord.
  • Hien was raised to rule, and so the language of leadership comes naturally to him. But when faced with the prospect of addressing his countrymen in the wake of their victory, he hesitates, until you spur him to rise to the occasion with your characteristic wit. As you and the other Scions look on, he implores his countrymen not to grow complacent, for the true challenge lies in the days ahead, when they must come together to rebuild their broken nation. Judging from the faces of the gathered men and women, you have little reason to doubt that they will.
  • Truly, there is no rest for the righteous, as the Scions can ill afford to remain in Doma and enjoy their victory. Gyr Abania still suffers under the rule of Zenos yae Galvus, and it is imperative that you return to the West with all possible haste.
  • Rasho and Tansui understand the urgency of your cause, and agree to take you to Kugane, where you might secure passage to Limsa Lominsa aboard a larger ship. A generous gesture, no doubt, but one that will give the captain an excellent excuse to slip away from the festivities...
  • On the docks of Kugane, you prepare to part ways with your Confederate allies. For an instant, Rasho lets slip his mask and thanks you earnestly for your deeds in service to Doma. And then, just like that, the mask is back in place, for some stories are destined to remain untold.

  • You, Raubahn, and your allies have much to discuss.
  • Having returned to Gyr Abania after a lengthy absence, the Alliance and Resistance leaders are eager to hear you recount the tale of your adventures in the Far East. And so you tell them of your many trials and tribulations, culminating with the liberation of Doma. The news has already spread throughout the Empire, doubtless leading to unrest and unease within the imperial ranks. The time to strike is now. The Alliance and Resistance will resume their campaign to retake Ala Mhigo, beginning by capturing Castellum Velodyna.
  • Preparations are underway in Rhalgr's Reach for the forthcoming operation, but Conrad would not have you assist with them. Instead, he requests that you take a moment to speak with several of the men under his command who have each suffered great personal tragedy. Perhaps a visit from the Warrior of Light will serve to raise their spirits.
  • To your surprise, you learn that in various small ways you have touched these soldiers' lives and helped to make them the men they are today. Another reminder, if any were needed, that we can never predict the ways in which our actions will influence those around us...
  • Though Conrad was aware of the part you played in shaping his soldiers' destinies, that was not his only reason for asking you to speak with them. Hailing from vastly different walks of life, each one had his own unique motive for joining the Resistance, and he has come to question his ability to represent their interests equally. But who could possibly serve in his stead? None other than Lyse Hext, Conrad believes─though it will be for her to decide whether or not to accept this burden when the time comes.
  • You and the Resistance forces gather at the ruins of Castellum Corvi to await the signal from the Alliance. Once General Aldynn and his men lure the bulk of the garrison away from Velodyna, you are to make for the bridge and engage the remaining defenders. Yet this too is but a feint, as the success of the operation rests on the shoulders of M'naago, who will fly to the top of the castellum with the aid of her griffin, and there employ a number of modified glamour prisms to create the illusion that the massive imperial banner has been replaced by that of the Resistance. The sight of the banner should serve to sow chaos and confusion in the imperial ranks, if all goes to plan, allowing the Allied forces to rout the enemy and claim Castellum Velodyna at last...
  • The plan is executed to perfection. When M'naago blows her horn to draw all eyes heavensward, the imperials begin to break and run, believing the day lost. Fordola, having remained at the bridge, urges her men to stand their ground, but soon retreats herself after realizing there is naught to be done. At Conrad's urging, Lyse lets her go, for while capturing the Skulls commander would represent a fine achievement, the greater goal has been accomplished: Castellum Velodyna is yours.
  • Ala Mhigo was not built in a single day, and neither will it be liberated in one. But the fall of the castellum marks a turning point in the campaign, for the imperials have been all but driven from the Fringes.

  • Vajra is ready to guide you to Djanan Qhat.
  • Upon witnessing her daughter's death at the hands of Fordola and her Skulls, the Qalyana broodmother cried out to the heavens in despair... and a primal answered. Sri Lakshmi, patron deity of the Ananta, came forth from the aether, and the imperials were put to flight. Alas, the tale did not end there, for now the Qalyana demand that the Vira come and pay tribute to the goddess. And so it falls to you and your comrades to journey unto the Qalyana stronghold of Djanan Qhat, where Sri Lakshmi now holds court.
  • Vajra leads you to the edge of the Qalyana settlement and tells you of the aetheryte within, which will deliver you to the heart of Djanan Qhat. However, given what they have heard of the primal's reclusive behavior, your comrades have expressed reservations. Must all primals be slain? Are they truly beyond reason?
  • Fortunately, as is often the case, simply attuning with the aetheryte is enough to grant you and your comrades access to the inner sanctum. Caution is the order of the day, and so you will refrain from a direct assault and instead attempt to gain a better understanding of the situation surreptitiously.
  • You look on in silence as Sri Lakshmi impassively explains to the distraught Qalyana broodmother that while her daughter's flesh has been restored to life, her soul is forever lost. Watching the forlorn spectacle, you are reminded once more of Ga Bu, the kobold boy whom you could not save, and of the cycle of misery perpetuated by the primals. But the anger you feel is naught to that of Alisaie, who, forsaking all concealment, proceeds to loudly decry Sri Lakshmi for her empty promises, before begging the Qalyana to see her for the false god she is. Alas, the broodmother will not listen, and the primal soon takes umbrage. With a wave of her hand, she sends orbs of energy towards you as a warning. Leave her lands and her dreamers be.
  • Twice has Alisaie watched helplessly as those consumed by tragedy have turned to primals for succor. Yet though she could do no more for the broodmother than she could for Ga Bu, she had to try... did she not? Either way, her failure has left you with no recourse but to meet the primal in single combat─ably abetted by the goodly adventurers who you had the wisdom and foresight to summon to Djanan Qhat in anticipation of this outcome. Sri Lakshmi must be slain. ※Emanation can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • With a flash of light, the Lady of Bliss departs, and with her whatever succor her dreamers may have enjoyed. Naught remains to keep you here...
  • As you tell Lyse of the primal's passing, the Qalyana broodmother appears, bereft at the death of her god. Though Lyse tries to reason with the grieving mother, she condemns you and your actions, demanding at last that you leave her to mourn. And so you do.
  • Though the Vira will not soon forget your deeds this day, neither will the Qalyana. Was there another way you could have resolved the situation? Perhaps... but you will never know.

  • The fear in Alisaie's eyes is unlike anything you have ever seen before.
  • After securing a foothold in the Peaks by seizing Ala Ghiri, the Eorzean Alliance and the Resistance set their sights on the next logical target: Specula Imperatoris. And so a great host, led by General Aldynn and Commander Kemp, laid siege to the towers. But when the massive cannon at Castrum Abania was used to destroy the main tower of Specula Imperatoris, killing countless Allied and imperial troops, it was plain the rules of engagement had changed...
  • You struggle to keep up with Alisaie as she runs towards what is left of Specula Imperatoris. Desperate to find her brother, she pushes through the gates before you can even think to stop her.
  • Though Alphinaud and many others are nowhere to be seen, you find General Aldynn and Marshal Tarupin in the thick of things, bellowing orders left and right, in a bid to organize their forces' withdrawal. Seeing that Alisaie is on the verge of hysteria, Raubahn reminds her that you all have a job to do: aiding the wounded.
  • Amidst the debris, you find several Alliance soldiers and help them to the best of your ability. Yet for every man you save, there are many more you cannot...
  • While comforting a Temple Knight who remembers you from the Steps of Faith, you hear Lyse pleading for Conrad to open his eyes. At least one of your comrades lives, but what of the others?
  • You find Lyse, M'naago, and Alphinaud tending to Conrad, who lies motionless upon the ground. Though the others escaped with only minor injuries, the grizzled commander's are unquestionably mortal. He uses his final moments to implore Lyse to succeed him as leader of the Ala Mhigan Resistance, and she tearfully accepts, promising to lead their countrymen to freedom. Safe in the knowledge that his legacy is secure, Conrad Kemp smiles and breathes his last.
  • Alphinaud is incensed, swearing bloody vengeance for Conrad's death and the indiscriminate slaughter at Specula Imperatoris. For indeed, what manner of monster would order the death of his own...

  • As usual, Alphinaud has a brilliant plan.
  • The Alliance and the Resistance cannot suffer a repeat of the slaughter at Specula Imperatoris. As such, they will not march upon Castrum Abania until they can be certain the fortress's main cannon will not be brought to bear against them. Though the weapon was apparently disabled by a single unknown assailant, it is only a matter of time before it is restored to operational status. With the aid of an Alliance contact in Radiata, you and your comrades have devised a plan to infiltrate the castrum and seize control of the cannon's fire control center, after which you will signal the Allied forces to advance. But before you can do that, you must first deal with the patrols between you and the castrum.
  • You dispatch the imperial patrol quickly and brutally, leaving nothing to chance. But it is only the first. Another is approaching.
  • The second patrol goes as quietly as its predecessor. Though Alphinaud and Alisaie lack your skill and finesse, it seems unlikely that their own targets proved any more troublesome...
  • As expected, Alphinaud and Alisaie are fine, as is Stark Woad, your contact. Your point of entry to Castrum Abania is not far, but a final patrol must be dealt with before you can proceed.
  • Once more you ambush and kill the unsuspecting imperial soldiers, removing the last obstacle between the entrance to the ventilation system and your comrades. Nevertheless, one can never be too careful; it would be prudent to stand watch for a time.
  • No more patrols are forthcoming, and so you signal your comrades to advance. Your plan, as Alphinaud reminds you, will be to split into two parties─one comprising Alphinaud and Alisaie, and the other, you and the irrepressible adventurers who you had the wisdom...

et cetera and so on. Each will attempt to create a diversion inside the castrum, thereby allowing Lyse and her unit of Resistance fighters to proceed relatively unhindered to the fire control center. Weapons research is to be your destination, and one can only imagine what manner of foes await you there...

※Castrum Abania can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • Though the monstrosities within weapons research are as fearsome as they are horrific, it is they who should rightly be afraid. Shortly after delivering your verdict on another few billion gil of Garlean innovation, you are rejoined by Alphinaud and Alisaie, and together you make haste to the fire control center to rendezvous with Lyse and seize control of the cannon.
  • At last you come face-to-face with the officer responsible for the destruction of Specula Imperatoris: Fordola rem Lupis. She makes no apologies for her actions and declares that all was in service to her countrymen─to secure a place for them within imperial society. Enraged, Lyse charges with murder in her eyes, only to find that her opponent possesses supernatural strength and agility. After effortlessly evading her attacks and cutting down Alisaie with a single stroke, Fordola dives through the window and makes her escape, but not before extending you and your comrades an invitation to the “royal hunt” on behalf of Zenos yae Galvus.
  • With nothing to fear from the fortress's dormant cannon, Allied forces march on Castrum Abania and seize control of it in short order. Save for Alisaie's injuries─which you are assured will heal in time─the operation has gone exactly to plan. And yet Lyse stands apart, quiet and distant...

  • Raubahn would share with you a story.
  • Lyse, having but recently assumed leadership of the Ala Mhigan Resistance, continues to struggle with the weight of her new responsibilities. Seeing this, Raubahn invites the two of you to accompany him to Coldhearth, a poor village of little consequence, which he reveals to be his childhood home. There he tells you of his life before the imperial occupation, when a soldier sent away from the front to mend first heard the words of a revolutionary firebrand...
Adrift in a memory of decades past, you observe Lyse's father deliver a speech to a crowd of cheering Ala Mhigans─among them, Raubahn Aldynn and Ilberd Feare, then dear friends. Afterwards, the revolutionary meets with Raubahn and counsels him to remember that freedom should not be an end in of itself, for it is but a chance to build something better...

and the work is never finished. "Liberty or Death,“ Raubahn repeats; the creed of Curtis Hext and his comrades. Solemnly, he asks Lyse if she will swear by these words, and she does so─though she is quick to add that the liberty she craves must be for every son and daughter of Ala Mhigo, even those who reject the cause. The nation they build must serve as a home for them all, she insists, and Raubahn can only agree.
  • The Flame General explains that he could see Lyse wasn't herself, and that he brought her to Coldhearth to remind her why she chose the path she now walks. Satisfied that she has found her resolve once more, he grants you leave to return without him, for he would remain awhile longer...
  • Lyse knows well the feeling of returning home after a long absence, and is more than willing to leave General Aldynn alone with his thoughts. Together you depart Coldhearth and journey north.
  • Lyse pulls you aside for a moment, sensing that you are being watched. She suggests that you split up and each head towards Radiata, while keeping your eyes peeled for suspicious characters.
  • The gang of Ala Mhigan youths observing you and Lyse from a distance panic at your approach, snatching up weapons and charging, apparently intent on killing or subduing you. It is the last mistake they will ever make.
  • You find Lyse standing over the corpses of several young men not unlike the ones you were forced to kill. With a start, she recognizes them from Radiata, and concludes that they must have marked you as insurgents when you were searching for Stark Woad. Fearing for Alphinaud and Alisaie's safety, she sprints off towards the nearby settlement as fast as her legs will carry her.
  • In Radiata, M'naago assures you that the twins are in no danger, and Alphinaud soon arrives with Stark Woad, putting your fears conclusively to rest. The Alliance agent explains that many youths who have only ever known the occupation are unwilling to place their faith in the Resistance, and would sooner attempt to curry favor with the imperials by capturing or killing enemies of the Empire. Alas, until you march on Ala Mhigo and defeat Zenos once and for all, such desperate individuals will remain a threat to you and yours.

Lyse asks that you and Alphinaud go on ahead, as she has various matters to discuss with her officers before she departs.
  • Alphinaud bids farewell to his sister, urging her not to rise from her bed until she is given express leave to do so. Then you set out together for Castrum Abania, where General Aldynn and Marshal Tarupin await.
  • The vice marshal informs you that Castrum Abania is now wholly under the control of the Eorzean Alliance. The imperials' supplies have been plundered and are being distributed as needed. Moreover, your allies have confirmed that a unit of Skulls passed through, escorting a single prisoner to the capital─Krile, almost certainly. With luck, it will not be long before you locate and rescue your captive comrade.
  • At Porta Praetoria, with the leaders of the Alliance and the Resistance in attendance, you discuss your plans for laying siege to Ala Mhigo and defeating the XIIth Legion once and for all. Time being of the essence, it is decided that as soon as the Resistance has secured the residential district to the south of the city, the main host will immediately launch an all-out assault. The Scions, meanwhile, will be held in reserve, ready to render aid where needed, and attend to Krile's rescue upon learning where she is being held.

  • Lyse is in the mood for a swim.
  • In order to gain entry to the Ala Mhigan Quarter and infiltrate the imperial research facility where Krile is being held, you and your comrades will need to find a way to circumvent the towering walls and heavy gates which surround it. Fortunately, Wiscar─a youth from Ala Gannha whom you inspired to join the Resistance─has surmised the existence of a tunnel connecting Loch Seld and a well within the district. The entrance to the well is secured by lock and key, but since you now have said key in your possession, you need only locate the tunnel.
  • Just as you and your comrades are about to dive into the loch, Urianger makes an unexpected appearance. The Archon duly explains that after listening to Alisaie's tale of her defeat at Fordola's hands, he was inspired to fashion a new and improved aetheric siphon, which he believes will enable you to deprive the Skulls commander of her preternatural prescience. Though Urianger seems unwilling to disclose the device's precise function, you receive it gratefully, conscious that you may have need of it during the coming mission.
  • Sure enough, in the depths of Loch Seld, you and your comrades locate a tunnel leading east towards the Ala Mhigan Quarter. For Thancred's sake, you pray the tunnel remains wide enough for you to pass through.
  • As predicted, the tunnel connects to a well within the walls of the residential district, sealed long ago by the King of Ruin and seemingly forgotten. Before continuing, you review your plan to let the Resistance in, and rescue Krile. Stealth is, of course, the preferred approach, but once the gates are open, it will be chaos in the streets...
  • The three of you pick your way through the Ala Mhigan Quarter and come at last to the great western gates. With a pull of a lever, the gates swing open, and the Resistance fighters, led by Alphinaud, pour through. As they engage the imperials, you and your fellow Scions head for the research facility where Krile is being held.
  • As expected, Fordola is waiting to greet you, along with a squadron of imperial soldiers. Thankfully, however, you have come prepared. Activating Urianger's device, you watch the Skulls commander reel about in confusion, and it soon becomes clear that she can no longer anticipate your attacks. Though she is yet a fearsome opponent, you are the Warrior of Light, and after a vicious battle, you are able to subdue her and secure the facility. To your relief, you find Krile alive, albeit weak from her ordeal, and together you make ready to leave, with Fordola as your prisoner. However, the beaten officer belittles your victory, speaking of the terrible powers Zenos commands and the futility of your sacrifices. For an instant, it seems as though Lyse will succumb to her anger and execute her defenseless foe, but in the end she relents, declaring that Fordola will live long enough to see a free Ala Mhigo.
  • Alphinaud is overjoyed. Krile is alive, and the Ala Mhigan District is in the hands of the Resistance. But what of Fordola's claims regarding Zenos's newfound powers? You can but hope that you will learn more before the hour of your inevitable confrontation.

  • At long last, the end is in sight.
  • After convincing the Ferae Domitae to withdraw, you and Alphinaud rejoin the main host outside the gates, and the assault begins in earnest. All proceeds as planned until a unit of airborne magitek armor launches a counterattack, throwing the Allied forces into chaos... Moments later, however, your Far Eastern allies, led by Lord Hien, swoop in to the rescue, engage the imperial flying machines, and leave the Alliance free to resume their attack. The gate buckles under the renewed assault, and soon gives way. Now begins the battle for the future of a nation. Together with the brave men and women of the Eorzean Alliance and the Resistance, you and your fellow adventurers must enter the city and make for the castle where Zenos yae Galvus resides, and put an end to his reign of terror. ※Ala Mhigo can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • Twice before, you faced Zenos yae Galvus, and twice before he beat you. But the third time proves different. The viceroy falters and withdraws, and subsequently erupts into maniacal laughter. At long last, you are become the beast he has longed to face, and so he bids you join him at the top of the Royal Palace, where the gods may bear witness to your dance.
  • In the Royal Menagerie, you are greeted by a terrible sight: Shinryu, Ilberd's draconic god of vengeance, at the mercy of the viceroy. Zenos fawns over the primal, which he proclaims a being of pure violence, and muses upon how instrumental you were in its creation and capture. You regard him silently as he proceeds to mock his great-grandfather's legacy, while hinting at his own dark ambitions, biding your time to strike. At last, he declares that all he has done, he did but for the joy of doing it, and that only man has the wisdom and the clarity to embrace violence for its own sake...

as you have. His manifesto thus delivered, Zenos frees Shinryu from its restraints and cries out defiantly as it bathes you both in dragon fire. Unscathed, your foe rises into the air and uses his power as a Resonant to merge with the primal, binding it to his will. As he towers over you, transformed, he glimpses Ilberd's final moments, and declares this to be “an ending to mark a new beginning,” before taking to the air. Nor is he mistaken. For if you and your comrades─those stalwart yet humble adventurers who have stood by you from first to last─do not stop Zenos yae Galvus...

no one will. ※The Royal Menagerie can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • One day the world may be consumed by fire and blood, and all that you hold dear be forever lost. But not this day. Zenos yae Galvus, Legatus of the XIIth Legion, imperial viceroy of Ala Mhigo, has fallen.
  • Alphinaud and Lyse join you in the Royal Menagerie as Zenos, returned to his former form, struggles to his feet, coughing blood. To their astonishment, he is filled with a joy he has never known, for he has experienced a moment unlike any other: clear and pure and real. He brings the blade to his neck and smiles the smile of a man at peace, and before Lyse can intervene, the deed is done. Zenos yae Galvus is dead. Soon after, Raubahn, Hien, and others arrive, expecting a fight and are relieved to find there is none. Though Lyse is initially reluctant to celebrate, Hien urges her to raise a cheer for all those who fought for freedom. And so you, together with your many comrades and the leaders of the Eorzean Alliance and the Resistance, gather at the castle's ramparts, and as the horns spread word of the viceroy's death, the people of Ala Mhigo raise their voices in song...
  • Lyse is unsure how to feel in the wake of Ala Mhigo's liberation. However, she knows that she does not want to keep you all to herself, and so she urges you to seek out your comrades, as they doubtless have much they wish to say.
  • None can predict what the future holds now that Zenos is dead and Ala Mhigo and Doma are free. But your comrades are hopeful of a better tomorrow, and are prepared to do their utmost to ensure it comes to pass.
  • Lyse remains where you left her, still quiet and thoughtful. Upon hearing you have made your rounds, she asks you to return with her to Rhalgr's Reach, along with the other Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Clearly, something weighs on her mind, but what?
  • In Rhalgr's Reach, before your gathered comrades, Lyse declares her intention to formally leave the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. The work to rebuild Ala Mhigo has only just begun, and she believes she cannot serve her homeland and the order both. Yet even if this marks the end of her tenure, you are still comrades, now and ever after─and Y'shtola is not about to let her forget it. Overcome with emotion, Lyse's eyes begin to water, and you come together to embrace as Scions one final time...

  • Yugiri is ready to guide you to the Azim Steppe.
  • Though your attempt on Zenos's life ended in failure, it spurred the people of Doma to rise up and openly oppose the imperials in battle. Convinced that this is the sign that Lord Hien has been waiting for, you and your comrades embark on a journey to the Azim Steppe to seek out the young heir and convince him to return to lead his people in a new rebellion against the Empire. And so you depart once more for the Ruby Sea, and a familiar fishing village on the coast.
  • From Isari you must continue north, towards a tunnel leading through the mountains. Yugiri spares only a moment to tell you this before leaving the village, eager to catch up to Lyse and Gosetsu.
  • The Steppe is vast and endless, and possessed of a quiet solemnity. Lyse too seems struck by the sight, and once more you note the faraway look in her eyes, as if she yearns to hold tight to this moment, this memory...
  • Yugiri tells you that what you see before you is but a fraction of a greater whole. To the north lies Reunion─your destination, and the ninja bids you follow.
  • You come to the gates of what appears to be a bustling marketplace, filled with Xaela from all across the Steppe. It is here where you will begin your search for Lord Hien. With luck, it will not take too long...
