Patch2.4

Journal

  • As great a fisher of men as he is a devourer of fish, Guildmaster Wawalago reels you in with a choice challenge.
  • Wawalago certainly has a way with words, though which way that is, not even the Navigator can say. Console yourself by catching the living legends sighted in La Noscea, the Black Shroud, and Thanalan, and present them to Wawalago at Fisherman's Bottom on the lower decks of Limsa Lominsa.
  • You have delivered the living legends to Wawalago. Even as the guildmaster heaps praise upon you, a puller arrives with alarming news that the ordinarily fertile Rhotano Sea has ceased to yield its bounty. Wawalago suspects that the currents may be to blame, and pledges to have Sisipu look into the matter. Meanwhile, he urges you to continue your hunt for living legends. Make your way to Coerthas and Mor Dhona, and deliver the creatures you capture to Wawalago.
  • Too many legends spoil everything, according to Ascelyn. The scholar arrives with news that the fisheries along the Rhotano seaboard face extinction unless the Nepto Dragon is removed from circulation. Like many monsters, it currently resides in Costa del Sol. Go there and speak with the steersman.
  • You come to a quick understanding with the steersman. His boat will take you to the Rhotano privateer, where your destiny awaits in the form of a giant fish. If you should catch this Nepto Dragon, the saltworn captain is keen to take a measure of the fish... and you.
  • You have killed a legend to save the local economy; such is the trade-off in these calamitous times. Your erstwhile opponent now lies limply on deck, awaiting Ascelyn's delicate knives. It occurs to you that Wawalago may share your sense of loss, and so seek him out him you shall.
  • Wawalago's sense of loss has less to do with mystique and more to do with meunière. However, his regard for you is sincere and robust, and a day of hard fishing has left you famished. Not all legends endure, but they sure are tasty, especially when paired with a chilled lowland white.

Objectives

  • Deliver living legends fished in La Noscea, the Black Shroud, and Thanalan to Wawalago.
  • Deliver living legends fished in Coerthas and Mor Dhona to Wawalago.
  • Speak with the steersman at Costa del Sol.

  • Skribyld is ready to set his plans into motion.
  • Skribyld believes R'kontai may be concealing more jackals for future black market sales. He has requested you speak with her to confirm his suspicions.
  • R'kontai reveals that, although there are no longer jackals in her care, she has a wolf pup in her keeping. Fearing that the pirates will come and take him away, the remorseful merchant begs you to retrieve him. Find the wolf pup and give him a succulent bone to win his trust.
  • The starved pup hungrily hunkers down on the bone, but still seems wary of you. Attempt to /soothe the frightened pup by rubbing his belly.
  • You have earned the pup's trust, and he now seems willing to go with you. Make your way back to Skribyld and show him what you found.
  • Skribyld is thrilled to hear that the pup is in good health and safe from the hands of the pirates. Seeing as the pup has grown so fond of you, Skribyld believes it best that he remains in your care.

Objectives

  • Speak with R'kontai.
  • Give the succulent bone to the starved pup.
  • /soothe the starved pup.
  • Report to Skribyld.

Journal

  • Skribyld requires assistance with an ongoing investigation.
  • Skribyld explains to you the growing threat of coeurls still roaming the lands around Aleport. Fearful for the local populace, Skribyld feels there is no other choice but to exterminate the remaining coeurls. You are to head to Skull Valley and carry out this grievous task.
  • You locate a coeurl, but find she has been slain by a pack of jackals, leaving behind a defenseless newborn. As you ponder what is to be done with the kitten, you are set upon by a pair of the grisly jackals. You defeat them with your usual flourish, but the question of how to care for the baby coeurl remains. Approach him with gentleness to see what comfort you might provide.
  • To your surprise, the baby coeurl immediately warms to your presence. Take him back to Skribyld and report your findings.
  • Although relieved to hear the coeurls running rampant in Aleport are no more, Skribyld is saddened by the loss of life and the now orphaned baby coeurl. Rather than leave him to fend for himself in the wilderness, Skribyld insists that you look after him, that he may grow to become a friend to man.

Objectives

  • Search for coeurls in Skull Valley.
  • Rescue the baby coeurl.
  • Report to Skribyld.

  • There is a hectic flush of panic on Dodozan's face as he looks wildly about Hawkers' Round.
  • Dodozan has been trading with pirates, and some miscreant has made off with a cask of ale meant for the Bloody Executioners. Surely, someone at Fisherman's Bottom has seen something.
  • Your inquiries have garnered answers, and you have learned that the cask of ale may have ended up exactly where it was supposed to, after all─with the Bloody Executioners aboard their ship, the Astalicia. It might be best to head off in that direction to confirm whether the customer was indeed the thief.
  • It turns out that one of the underling pirates had more thirst than sense, and so brings down his captain's wrath upon him. The good captain would have you courier the payment to Dodozan.
  • Dodozan is pleased to see the money and even more pleased that a watery demise will not be an item on his personal ledger this day. Moenskaet is correct, after all; it takes cods to trade with folk who have a long keel.

Objectives

  • Speak with people around Fisherman's Bottom.
  • Speak with the young Executioner on the Astalicia.
  • Deliver the payment to Dodozan.

  • A salty stalwart is the acting guildmaster Sisipu, but today she seems distinctly distrait.
  • Her tart tongue reasserting itself, Sisipu urges you towards the docks, where Wawalago awaits you with a distinguished visitor.
  • Wawalago and Ascelyn bend your ear until you can hardly stand straight─such is scholarship. All you need to note is that Wawalago needs a titanic sawfish from you. Take a lugworm to Cape Westwind to catch a Merlthor goby, then perform fishwheeling to net a wahoo. Another round of fishwheeling─or mooching, if you must─will allow you to get your hands on a titanic sawfish.
  • You present Wawalago with a titanic sawfish, and faced with incontrovertible evidence of your prowess, the guildmaster reveals that an Old One called the Navigator's brand lurks off the coast of the Brewer's Beacon, and can be caught using a yumizuno. Heed his gory tale well and equip yourself with care. Without a high gathering value, you will lose this beast ere you can raise it out of the water.
  • Wawalago regards the Navigator's brand with naked hunger, but has the wherewithal to officially recognize you as a fisher with skill enough to capture an Old One, if such a need were to arise. The guildmaster also reminds you that Eorzea is apparently full of big fish for a self-improving fisher to hone his skill on. Word is that rare fish will fetch a handsome price in equipment at Revenant's Toll, unless you prefer to consume several dozen servings of a lemon herb Old One on a bed of spinach.

Objectives

  • Speak with Wawalago.
  • Deliver a titanic sawfish to Wawalago.
  • Deliver a Navigator's brand to Wawalago.

Journal

  • I'tolwann is ill pleased with the carelessness of the Wench's customers.
  • A weighty and well-worn journal has been left behind at the Wench, and I'tolwann would see it returned to its owner─a first-time customer who enjoyed Baderon's ale a bit too much. She informs you that Quentenain, a regular at the Wench, was drinking with the stranger and might know something about his whereabouts.
  • Quentenain recalls the book's owner well, if not fondly─the man in question downed enough ale to sink a small vessel and left his drinking companion to pay for his excess. Despite having no interest in seeing the raucous Roegadyn's possessions returned, he nevertheless suggests that you may find your man at the Lominsan ferry docks.
  • You successfully return the journal to its owner, a self-assured adventurer by the name of Wastlleid, who informs you that the impressive tome is a self-penned log of his exploits. In return for your kindness, he affords you a similar, unused book, that you might likewise keep a record of your deeds.

Objectives

  • Speak with Quentenain.
  • Deliver the well-worn journal to Wastlleid at the Lominsan ferry docks.

  • Something weighs heavily on the adventurer's mind...
  • You have been asked to investigate the disappearance of a retainer gone afield on a so-called “venture.” Journey to Skull Valley in western La Noscea, his last known location.
  • You find and rescue the missing retainer from a grisly death at the hands of wild beasts, thus earning his gratitude. Rather than reward you himself, the retainer bids you return to Limsa Lominsa and speak with his supervisor, Frydwyb, in East Hawkers' Alley.
  • Recognizing that you are unfamiliar with the latest services provided by retainers, Frydwyb explains that ventures are procurement expeditions which you may ask your retainers to undertake. She then gifts you several ventures, a unique scrip used to pay for these services. Duly informed, you may now speak with your retainers and assign them these tasks at your leisure.

Objectives

  • Search Skull Valley for the missing retainer.

Journal

  • Trachraet has some worrying news concerning Pharos Sirius.
  • Trachraet informs you that a kobold invasion has forced a group of smiths from Naldiq and Vymelli's to abandon their work on Pharos Sirius, to the great annoyance of Master Mimidoa. While it remains unclear how or why the beastmen ventured to the Isles of Umbra, it is abundantly clear they are up to no good. Seek out the storm flyer at the airship landing for further instructions.
  • At your request, the storm flyer relays Mimidoa's account of the attack. Apparently, the old smith is convinced the kobolds intend to blow up the lighthouse, having seen them scatter volatile bombs in the tunnels beneath the tower's foundation. With the livelihood of western La Noscea's inhabitants hanging in the balance, Maelstrom Command asks that you enter the tower by airship and defuse the kobolds' explosive plot before Aleport's shores are choked with debris. ※Pharos Sirius (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • You have cleared Pharos Sirius of the incendiary surprises left by the kobolds. Report to the storm flyer in western La Noscea, and confirm that all went as planned.
  • You return to find Maelstrom troops hurrying to clear the debris left by the kobolds, and rid the area of any remaining beastman invaders. While you discuss their progress with the storm flyer in charge, a private approaches you bearing a curious nautical knife carved with the sigil of Diamanda of Naldiq and Vymelli's, which was apparently discovered during a preliminary search of the area. With much still to be done, the storm flyer asks you to go to Aleport in her stead and hand the knife over to Trachraet, who will shortly be meeting with the smiths to relay the news of the lighthouse's reclamation.
  • The blunt whittle turns out to be a personal effect of Diamanda's late brother Symond. The sight of it stokes the flames of resolve in the heart of the young smith, who vows to turn the forsaken lighthouse into a place to honor the lost. Your duty done, you take your leave, certain that Pharos Sirius will soon be restored to its former glory.

Objectives

  • Speak with the storm flyer at the airship landing.
  • Use the Duty Finder to enter Pharos Sirius (Hard).
  • Report to the storm flyer at the entrance of Pharos Sirius.

Journal

  • Denston looks surprised to see you.
  • Denston mentions that Eynzahr had been hoping to speak with you on the subject of Hullbreaker Isle, and sends for the off-duty storm marshal before you have a chance to object. Soon after, Eynzahr appears in his civilian attire and proceeds to apprise you of all that has occurred since you salvaged Mistbeard's coffer. In a bid to discourage treasure hunters and put the island's remoteness to use, he petitioned Admiral Merlwyb to reserve Hullbreaker for the training of Maelstrom recruits. However, Eynzahr confides that he thinks the Grand Company's finest could do with some exercise themselves, and beseeches you to play the role of sparring partner during a coming drill. Join Denston in Moraby Bay when you are ready to set sail.
  • With the mists around the Cieldalaes having obligingly parted, Denston deems it safe to set sail for Hullbreaker Isle. Assemble your party while the Maelstrom sees to its final preparations. ※Hullbreaker Isle (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • You run the Maelstrom's gauntlet, battling your way through a horde of slavering beasts and, somewhat unexpectedly, pirates. After a bemusing interlude involving the ladies of the Sanguine Sirens and the carnivorous pet of the Kraken's Arms, the drill appears to be brought back on course as you spar with the Maelstrom's elite forces. Having defeated the Grand Company's finest, you find yourself in the presence of the Admiral, who came to witness the duel with your final opponent─Eynzahr Slafyrsyn himself. Though the storm marshal had originally intended to face you as an officer of the Maelstrom, at Merlwyb's prompting, he dons the mask of the legendary Mistbeard before engaging you in earnest. For all his strength and cunning, however, he is no match for the Warrior of Light, and the drill concludes with your victory. Bear word of the day's events to Denston back in Limsa Lominsa.
  • Before Denston can press you for the details of your triumph, Eynzahr appears and assures him that every soul in Limsa will know the tale soon enough. The storm marshal duly compliments you on your performance against beasts, infantrymen, and buccaneers alike. When Denston subsequently expresses puzzlement at the pirates' role in proceedings, Eynzahr explains that they invited themselves in their capacity as the Maelstrom's “Black Sails” unit. Hearing this, the young man teases Eynzahr that he only permitted them to intervene out of curiosity to see if the old sea dogs could still hold their own in a fight. No sooner have the words left his lips than he notices Eynzahr's bruises, and realizes that he too participated. Visibly embarrassed, the storm marshal stiffly thanks you for taking part in the drill and excuses himself, leaving Denston to lament his commanding officer's advancing years. Though it is questionable if losing to you could be considered a sign of infirmity, you cannot help wondering how formidable Eynzahr must have been in his heyday...

Objectives

  • Speak with Denston at the Moraby Drydocks.
  • Use the Duty Finder to enter Hullbreaker Isle (Hard).
  • Speak with Denston in Limsa Lominsa.

You succeed in summoning an Ifrit-Egi that takes the form of a Ruby Carbuncle─marking the experiment a success! Thubyrgeim bids you head upstairs once more to discuss the implications of the experiment.

  • No sooner do you look in his direction than an Auri monk cowers away from you, begging for mercy. His fear soon gives way to relief after realizing you did not come to knock him on his backside. As he explains it, the Maelstrom has opened an arena where adventurers may freely challenge comrades-in-arms to combat. What has the Auri fighter so concerned, however, is that because these battles are not confined to the Pit of the Wolves' Den, he has been constantly harassed by strangers looking to pick a fight. Judging by the air of confidence about you, he suggests you pay a visit to the officer down on the docks, that you might learn more about this new fighting ring.
  • You approach the Maelstrom officer, and at a glance she can tell you have a hunger for battle that cannot be sated in the Pit of the Wolves' Den. Before you rush headlong into the arena, however, she intends to explains the protocols one must follow when dueling on the Wolves' Den Pier.
