Patch3.5

Journal

  • The walking atlas has an eye to share his navigational expertise with you.
  • The man known as the walking atlas attempts to sell you his guiding services, only to recognize you as the lanner-taming hero he has been tasked to find. He urges you to meet his mysterious employer, who awaits you at the Snail in Idyllshire.
  • The mysterious employer is revealed to be none other than the wandering minstrel. The man tells you of the immortal Firebird, a king among its kind, whom he believes you can befriend owing to your mastery of the seven divine lanners. To call the creature, he gives you a whistle, which is to be used upon a rise in the southeastern reach of the Dravanian hinterlands.
  • Arriving at the rise, you sound the whistle. After a moment in tense silence, the mighty Firebird appears and recognizes you as its equal. The majestic sight inspires new verses within the wandering minstrel, who offers his thanks and bids you continue your adventures upon fiery wings.

Patch3.55a

Journal

  • Geimlona is concerned for the pecuniary fortunes of a friend.
  • Your arrival heartens Geimlona, who had been looking to ask a personal favor of an accomplished crafter like yourself. As she tells it, an enterprising young trader formerly employed at the House of Splendors recently paid off her debt to Rowena and struck out on her own, and the sisters would see to it that the girl's new venture is a success. Vowing to offer what aid you can, you set out for the Hard Place to seek out one Zhloe Aliapoh.
  • The enthusiastic─if easily distracted─Zhloe Aliapoh eagerly regales you with stories of her dream of running an orphanage, while lamenting the financial woes that have thwarted her plans thus far. She asks for your aid in procuring exotic treasures that she might then unload on her most affluent customers, thus securing the necessary funds to keep Menphina's Arms thriving. To ensure a mutually beneficial arrangement, she offers to pay for every item you deliver in scrips that can be redeemed at her good friend and associate Rowena's House of Splendors. Seeing no cause to doubt her zeal and business acumen, you resolve to do your part to help the girl achieve her most admirable goal.

Objectives

  • Speak with Zhloe Aliapoh at the Hard Place.

  • You have struck down three tarantula hawks. Deliver tidings of your victory to Woolnix near the Cenotaph.
  • Woolnix reveals to you that he was stung by a tarantula hawk, and, driven mad by the pain, left his post. Now that there are a few less hovering about nearby, however, he believes he can do his duty in safety.

Journal

  • Midnight Dew wishes to learn more of you.
  • Midnight Dew wants to see how you fit into Idyllshire's burgeoning community. To that end, she bids you work together with a young adventurer currently tasked with moving foodstuffs into Idyllshire's storerooms. Go to him now, and see what you can do.
  • You find the green adventurer in a slight tizzy. He informs you that the last of the vessels he carried across the settlement had a hole in it, and subsequently he has lost five crabapples. Find these for him now, whilst he repairs the broken urn.
  • After looking all over, you find the five missing crabapples. Return these slightly dusty fruits now to the young adventurer.
  • The adventure-dreaming youth takes the crabapples back, and gives you his thanks. Now, report back to Midnight Dew.
  • Midnight Dew is happy to learn that you aided the inhabitants of Idyllshire, even in a small way. She tells you that all this was a test of sorts, to learn what manner of person you are. However, you have allayed any doubts she may have had, and earned yourself a modicum of respect within the settlement.

Objectives

Journal

  • Slowfix needs your help in solving a problem.
  • Idyllshire is to be a new, free nation─a utopia for goblins and any who wish to join them. But founding a nation is not without monetary costs. Slowfix explains that, since taxing the citizens of their hard-earned gil would fly in the face of all that this fledgling nation stands for, funds are raised through rental of vital tools and equipment. Unfortunately, a goblin has borrowed a pickaxe and left Idyllshire without returning it. Find this ungracious goblin and retrieve the pickaxe.
  • You find the goblin, but she is under attack by tarantula hawks! Slay these beasts and rescue the defenseless goblin such that you may ascertain the whereabouts of the missing pickaxe.
  • The beleaguered goblin thanks you before explaining that she forgot about the rental pickaxe she borrowed before leaving on her journey. While she can't return to Idyllshire herself to return the pickaxe, she entrusts it to you, requesting that you return it to its rightful owner in her stead. Go back to Idyllshire and give the pickaxe back to Drydox.
  • Drydox is ecstatic that you have found the pickaxe─she had given it up for lost. Report to Slowfix that the missing rental equipment is now accounted for.
  • Slowfix is glad to see the missing equipment returned. He pays you what he considers to be a fair market price for your work.

Objectives

  • Rescue the ungracious goblin.

  • Holepix believes his kin will not taste true peace until Idyllshire impresses their strength upon the Illuminati. To that end, he bids you go to the Arkhitekton and slay any six Illuminati goblins─be they brandishers, tinkerers, sharpshooters, or gliders.
  • You slay six members of the Illuminati. Return now to Holepix, and see if this sates his bloodlust.
  • Holepix is happy with the message of dominance you have sent the Illuminati. However, he fears that the enemies of Idyllshire will yet rally, and attack again from the shadows. Hence, he vows to increase the guard, to keep his kith and kin safe.

Journal

  • Drydox seems to be down in the dumps.
  • Drydox has lost four bags, each stuffed with her most precious of possessions, and she believes the Illuminati have stolen them. Venture into the Makers' Quarter in the Dravanian hinterlands, and see if you can find Drydox's lost sacks.
  • After combing through the Makers' Quarter, you find Drydox's cumbersome sacks. When you look inside, however, all you see is junk. Return these so-called treasures to the goblin in Idyllshire.
  • Drydox is very happy to have her sacks back. It transpires that they are filled with artifacts left by the Sharlayans before their exodus, items that can find new use in Idyllshire. It seems thus that you have done your good deed for the day, and contributed to the small settlement's future.

Objectives

  • Halfsix has seemingly crafted devices able to interrupt Illuminati communications. Now, he wishes you to plant these contraptions around the Makers' Quarter, so as to vex the mortal enemies of Idyllshire. Make your way to the Dravanian hinterlands, and set up the three jamming devices now.
  • You plant all three jamming devices in a crescent pattern around the Arkhitekton. Report back to Halfsix, and tell him the great “joke” you two have played on Illuminati.
  • Upon hearing that the deed is done, Halfsix must stifle his own laughter when imagining exactly how frustrating it will be for the Illuminati to lose their ability to communicate. Though he does not thank you in so many words, you sense you have won the goblin's trust.

Objectives

  • Plant jamming devices throughout the Makers' Quarter.

  • While Loudjox mistakes you for a customer, she realizes that she can part with some gil in exchange for the leaves of narbroois. Make your way to the Makers' Quarter, and slay the sweetly smelling monsters for six of their fragrant fronds.
  • You strike down a number of narbroois, and tear the leaves from their still bodies. Find your way back to Loudjox with the aromatic prizes.
  • Loudjox delivers your payment for the leaves, explaining that they are part of a mixture that goblins place in their masks to avoid bad smells. Given your own experiences with goblin aromas, you decline her offer to take a sniff, and instead take your reward for helping the realm smell just a little better.

  • Slowfix is worried by the increasing number of organizational and administrative problems surfacing in Idyllshire. He needs the advice of a goblin with more of a head for these sorts of things─Dripwix. Unfortunately, Dripwix is nowhere to be seen. Slowfix asks you to track down Dripwix for him. Start by asking Midnight Dew. She should know where he is.
  • Midnight Dew tells you that Dripwix should be headed towards the Arkhitekton, in the Dravanian hinterlands. Hopefully you will be able to find him before the Illuminati do.
  • You find Dripwix just as a group of Illuminati goblins descend upon him. Save him by slaying his assailants.

  • Midnight Dew has received an order for a bag of squigglywogs, but she's simply too busy to deliver it. She asks you to take it to Feltsmox, who should be fishing, as usual, at the Thaliak River.
  • Feltsmox thanks you for the squigglywogs. She has been having terrible luck fishing lately, but these wriggly little tadpoles make such exceptional bait that her luck should start to turn immediately. She gives you a bag of coins in payment─take it back to Midnight Dew.
  • You return Feltsmox's payment to Midnight Dew. She explains that fishing is a popular pastime amongst goblins, and the resulting demand for squigglywogs is helping her turn a tidy profit. While the goblins plan to settle a town in Idyllshire, Midnight Dew suspects that many goblins are just natural-born wanderers. She doubts it will be long before Feltsmox feels the need to leave the city and travel the realm.

  • Halfsix is fidgeting.
  • It seems the Idyllshire aetheryte may be growing unstable, and is in need of a proper inspection. However, Halfsix lacks the necessary aetherflow distributors to make his analysis. As with many things in the burgeoning settlement, it appears these, too, are located somewhere within the Arkhitekton. Thus, Halfsix bids that you make your way there and search the Illuminati pots for three of these tools.
  • You obtain three aetherflow distributors, and dispatch a number of Illuminati as well. Return with them to Halfsix in Idyllshire now.
  • Halfsix expresses his gratitude for your service. The aetheryte will no doubt continue to spin in Idyllshire for many years to come, thanks to your efforts.

  • Holepix has learned that the Illuminati have made new machines of war, great mechanical men that he fears can bring Idyllshire to heel. To prevent this terrible eventuality, he asks that you launch a preemptive strike by destroying three findertype magitek vangobs G-III near the Arkhitekton in the Dravanian hinterlands.
  • You find and destroy three findertype magitek vangobs G-III, one after the other. Now that the last of these whirring horrors has fallen, return to Holepix in Idyllshire and give him the good tidings.
  • Holepix thanks you for your service to Idyllshire, and tells you how the vangobs came to be. The Illuminati laid hands on old Garlean magitek weapons, disassembled and rebuilt them into something even stronger. Though Holepix is impressed by the ingenuity involved, he also knows they will not hesitate to enslave their fellow goblins, and hopes your efforts will forestall the Illuminati.

Journal

  • Dripwix is overflowing with ideas for new rules and regulations.
  • Dripwix has been hard at work formulating new rules and regulations to govern the people of Idyllshire. The first such rule is that meticulous records be kept of all tool rentals. He has prepared a large and comprehensive ledger for recording countless details of each and every tool rental. While Dripwix concocts yet more rules, take the ledger to Drydox to use for all future tool rentals.
  • Drydox is less than pleased by these latest bureaucratic developments. She seems to view these complex new rules as a nightmarish, confusing inconvenience. Return to Dripwix and see what new rules the enterprising goblin has come up with.
  • To address the organizational problems being experienced by the Idyllshire patrol force, Dripwix has drafted an amended map of the area, including formalized boundaries and borders for the area claimed by the goblins. Take this map to Tapklix, such that his troops may know where to patrol and how close the Illuminati may stray before a counteroffensive should be launched.
  • Tapklix is greatly concerned by the map you deliver to him. He finds its intricacies bafflingly complex and has severe doubts that the goblins he commands will be able to memorize the details of it. Leave him to his worries and let Dripwix know that you have delivered the map as requested.
  • Dripwix seems satisfied for now that his new rules will address at least some of the more obvious problems that Idyllshire has been experiencing. He expresses his intent to continue looking for problems at the settlement and drafting rules to address them.

Objectives

  • Deliver Dripwix's ledger to Drydox.

  • Slowfix is eager to know about the effect of Idyllshire's new rules.
  • Slowfix wants to know what sort of effect Dripwix's new rules are having in Idyllshire. Ask the inhabitants of Idyllshire and Bigwest Shortstop for their opinions on these new laws and regulations.
  • After speaking with several residents of Idyllshire, you learn that people are generally dissatisfied with the new rules that Dripwix introduced. They are unnecessarily complex and restrictive and they cause more problems than they solve. Relay this disappointing─if not unsurprising─news to Slowfix.
  • Upon hearing that his rules were a complete failure, Dripwix becomes upset and leaves, muttering something about redrawing Idyllshire's borders. Concerned about his friend, Slowfix asks you to find Dripwix and pass on a message to the distraught goblin, telling him to meet with Slowfix. If he is redrawing the settlement's borders, he is likely to be near the ill-defined borders with the Illuminati's settlement at the Arkhitekton.
  • You find Dripwix under attack by the Illuminati. Slay the attackers and aid Dripwix.
  • You assist Dripwix and relay Slowfix's message. Concerned that the meeting will result in conflict, Dripwix asks you to join him, as a mediator. The meeting will be on the road from the Arkhitekton to the Collectors' Quarter. Rendezvous with him there.
  • Slowfix reminds Dripwix what prompted them to found the settlement at Idyllshire─the desire for a free and beautiful home for any and all who would choose to live there. As Dripwix begins to realize that his rules are getting in the way of this goal, it is revealed that Slowfix's disregard for the new goblin lending laws has led to a fishing rod going missing. An enraged Dripwix chases his careless friend all the way back to Idyllshire. Meet with them there.
  • Slowfix explains that his conversation with Dripwix led to the creation of a new, fundamental law for Idyllshire: always respect friends. Though this one rule alone will not solve the settlement's administrative issues, it encapsulates the spirit in which Idyllshire was founded and will form the basis upon which further rules are established.

Objectives

  • Gather information in Idyllshire.
  • Speak with Slowfix.

Journal

  • Midnight Dew seems concerned about two of the new refugees at Idyllshire.
  • Midnight Dew is concerned about a pair of new refugees in Idyllshire. Notched Bone and Dedean recently arrived in the settlement, but seem to be having difficulty fitting in. She asks you to spend some time with them and make sure they don't cause any problems. She seems to think that, with a little guidance from you, these two refugees will come to enjoy life in Idyllshire.
  • Notched Bone seems to really dislike living in Idyllshire─so much so that he and Dedean plan to leave and found a new settlement of their own. Since they can't found a new city on their own, they hope to rally other adventurers at Idyllshire to their cause and have prepared flyers which they ask you to help distribute. Find adventurers in Idyllshire and the Answering Quarter and hand out the flyers to them.
  • You find several adventurers in and around the settlement, but none of them are at all interested in the idea of leaving Idyllshire and its goblins to found a new city. Relay the disappointing news to Notched Bone.
  • Notched Bone and Dedean are both shocked to discover that none of the other adventurers are interested in leaving Idyllshire. The pair clearly dislike the local goblins and somehow manage to convince themselves that the adventurers have been brainwashed by the goblins.

Objectives

  • Notched Bone seems convinced that the goblins have brainwashed the citizens of Idyllshire.
  • Notched Bone is still convinced that the goblins have brainwashed the citizens of Idyllshire, and you are unable to convince him otherwise. He hopes to cure the citizens of this brainwashing by exposing what he thinks is a grand, nefarious scheme by the goblins. He saw a goblin armed and heading out towards the Collectors' Quarter and he is sure she was up to no good. Perhaps if you find out what this goblin is really up to, you can convince Notched Bone that they can be trusted.
  • You speak with the goblin and learn that she is exterminating the damselflies in the area. Apparently there are egg-bearing damselflies nearby which must be eliminated before they can lay their eggs. If they do, the young that hatch will quickly get out of hand. Help the goblin by slaying three of the damselflies.
  • With the damselflies slain, the risk of them breeding out of control has been negated. Let the goblin know that there is no more work to be done here.
  • The goblin happily thanks you for helping her finish her work so quickly. The area should now be much safer for the inhabitants of Idyllshire. Return to Notched Bone with this proof that the goblins are kind-hearted and trying only to help.
  • You explain to Notched Bone that the goblin he saw was simply keeping the surrounds of Idyllshire clear of dangerous monsters, but he remains unconvinced. He somehow still thinks that the goblins are up to no good─despite all evidence to the contrary.

  • Dedean thinks the goblins are brainwashing people and wants to know how they are doing it.
  • Dedean still seems to think that the goblins of Idyllshire are somehow brainwashing the immigrants that arrive in the settlement. He saw a goblin leading a group of adventurers─who had just arrived in Idyllshire─out towards Saint Mocianne's Arboretum. He has convinced himself that they are being taken there to be brainwashed and is not interested in anything you have to say to the contrary. Maybe if you find out what the goblin and his party of adventurers are doing, you can explain it to this Lalafell and disabuse him of his delusions.
  • You speak with the adventurers accompanying the goblin and learn that he is simply giving them a thorough and educational guided tour of the area surrounding Idyllshire. Speak next with the goblin himself and confirm that there is nothing even slightly suspicious going on.
  • The goblin guide does not even know what brainwashing is, much less how to go about doing it. Just as expected, he is simply showing the new arrivals to Idyllshire what they should be aware of as citizens of the settlement. Hopefully this will be enough to assuage Dedean's suspicions.
  • Dedean still seems unwilling to believe that the goblins are truly kind and friendly. It seems he has had some bad experiences during his time in Ul'dah that led to these unfortunate prejudices.

  • Notched Bone and Dedean seem to be on the brink of starvation.
  • It seems that Notched Bone and Dedean have not eaten in quite some time and they are understandably very hungry. What is less understandable is their refusal to eat the food they have been provisioned with by the goblins. They are under the impression that it is poisoned and are completely unreceptive to suggestions to the contrary. Notched Bone asks you to slay a crawler and harvest its flesh such that he and Dedean may eat. Raw crawler flesh is inedible, but it should be fine if cooked thoroughly. Notched Bone asks that after harvesting the crawler meat, you roast it at the goblin bonfire in the Answering Quarter. Feed these stubborn two now, and deal with their prejudices later.
  • You slay a crawler and gather a good, large slice of its flesh. Even someone on the brink of starvation would not eat this meat raw. Roast the slice of crawler flesh at the bonfire in the Answering Quarter.
  • You find the bonfire Notched Bone described and slowly roast the crawler flesh, thoroughly cooking it all the way through. Deliver the roasted crawler flesh to Notched Bone and Dedean back at Idyllshire.
  • You deliver the crawler meat to Notched Bone and Dedean. Now that they have something to sate their empty stomachs, they hand you the jerked water buffalo meat that the goblins supplied them with. They ask you to return it to the goblin who gave it to them─the coalshifter goblin near the bonfire over which you cooked the crawler flesh.
  • You return the jerked water buffalo to the coalshifter goblin, explaining that the two refugees have secured an alternate source of sustenance in the crawlers that roam the hinterlands. Upon hearing this, the goblin becomes very concerned. No matter how it is prepared, crawler flesh is inedible and can cause severe stomach pains in goblins. He doubts that Lalafell or Roegadyn will fare any better from eating it. He provides you with some gobbietea, which should help to alleviate any stomach problems the two refugees might suffer, and requests that you return to the two and check on their well-being.
  • It seems that the coalshifter goblin's concerns were well founded. You find Notched Bone and Dedean racked with terrible stomach pains. Administer the gobbietea. It should ameliorate the symptoms they are suffering.
  • The gobbietea starts to take effect immediately. Though they are still in pain, Notched Bone's and Dedean's conditions seem to be improving rapidly. Speak with Notched Bone and explain that the medicine that cured him was provided by the same goblin that gave him the jerked water buffalo meat that he refused to eat.
  • Notched Bone is shocked to learn that the medicine came from a goblin. He is still somewhat skeptical about the goblins' motivations, explaining that in all their time as refugees, he and Dedean have only ever experienced kindness as part of a plan to cheat them. It was just such a ploy that led them to be tricked into debt in Ul'dah, forcing them to leave the nation and find a new home.

Objectives

  • Obtain crawler flesh from a crawler.
  • Roast the crawler flesh on the bonfire.
  • Deliver the roasted crawler flesh to Notched Bone.

  • Notched Bone is convinced he saw a goblin about to get up to no good.
  • Notched Bone is finally back on his feet after eating the inedible crawler flesh. While incapacitated, he saw a goblin he thought looked extremely suspicious. Since he has not yet fully recovered, he has requested your help in following this goblin. He asks you to meet him and Dedean outside of Idyllshire, in the Answering Quarter. Accompany them on their investigation and make sure they don't cause any problems.
  • You find Notched Bone and Dedean just outside the city, in the Answering Quarter. They've lost sight of the goblin, but intend to continue southward in the hopes of catching him in some evil act.
  • In the Answering Quarter, you happen upon a man in no small amount of pain. Notched Bone is sure that the goblins are responsible, but the man insists he was not attacked by them. Notched Bone abandons the man, running back to Idyllshire to plan his next move. Fortunately, the man does not seem to be worried about his own condition, instead expressing concern at Notched Bone's apparent misunderstanding of the situation. Return to Idyllshire and find out what Notched Bone is intending to do next.
  • Notched Bone has spoken with Dedean and the two both agree that they must abandon their plan of founding a new settlement. They cannot bring themselves to abandon the citizens of Idyllshire, who they see as being under the malevolent influence of the goblins.

It seems this Roegadyn won't be convinced of the goblin's innocence until he witnesses it with his own eyes. Meet him in the Answering Quarter and help him see for himself the goblin's true nature.

  • Notched Bone tells you that one of the more suspicious items he saw the goblin packing during his preparations back at Idyllshire was a length of rope. He seems quite worried that this goblin may be planning a kidnapping of some sort. Follow Notched Bone further along the road and speak with him again.
  • The goblin you are following appears to be looking for someone. Seeing the goblin searching for someone in so secluded an area has Notched Bone increasingly convinced that this goblin is up to no good. He still seems to be traveling down the road. Meet with Notched Bone again near the intersection.
  • You happen upon a number of monsters─slain, apparently, without difficulty. Dedean is worried about the risks of confronting someone capable of dispatching so many beasts with such ease. Notched Bone, however, steels his resolve, concerned for the well-being of the citizens of Idyllshire. The goblin must be headed towards the ruined bridge. Go there and speak again with Notched Bone.
  • You find the goblin and another man, Edred, and soon get to the bottom of Notched Bone's misunderstanding. In exchange for massages from the goblin, Edred has been slaying Orn kites for their meat. The goblin ties these downed birds into braces with a rope, before performing the effective─but excruciatingly painful─traditional goblin massage techniques on him. Inspired by their cooperation and ashamed of doubting the innocent goblin, Notched Bone affirms his desire to be a citizen of Idyllshire. Confused but ever generous, the goblin eagerly welcomes him with an excruciatingly painful goblin massage.
  • It is unclear if Notched Bone is in a state of relaxation following the goblin's massage, or in shock from the pain of it. Whichever the case, he is taking some time to rest beneath the bridge. He intends to return to Idyllshire shortly and asks you to meet with him there.
  • Having finally come to realize how mistaken they have been, Notched Bone and Dedean resolve to become active members of the Idyllshire society. They plan to work hard and repay their debt to the goblins for all the kindness the goblins offered but which they rudely refused. They thank you, especially, for helping them come to this realization about the true nature of the goblins and their generosity.

  • Notched Bone wants to become an official citizen of Idyllshire.
  • Notched Bone has decided that, along with Dedean, he wants to become a citizen of Idyllshire. He's not comfortable approaching their leadership after how poorly he has treated the goblins previously, and asks you to speak to Slowfix on his behalf.
  • You speak with Slowfix, who is more than happy to welcome more citizens into Idyllshire. He also mentions that a letter has arrived for Notched Bone and asks you to deliver it to him.
  • You deliver the letter to Notched Bone who, curious at who might have sent it, opens it immediately. It is from a moneylender who has tracked him down to Idyllshire. Not wanting to cause problems for the goblins who have been so kind to him, he decides to sneak out of Idyllshire before the moneylender can find him. To this end, he asks you to check the settlement's exit and make sure the man isn't waiting for him there.
  • The moneylender has already arrived in Idyllshire. Return to Notched Bone and break the bad news.
  • Notched Bone is still intent on fleeing the city. Dedean, however, wants to ask the people of Idyllshire for help in driving the moneylender away from the settlement. Meet with this force outside in the Collectors' Quarter and see to it that this malicious crook doesn't get his hands on his prey.
  • Faced with the prospect of having to engage both yourself and the apparently notorious Edred in combat, the moneylender beats a hasty retreat. Before returning to Idyllshire, Slowfix reveals that he has a request he would like to make of you. Return to the settlement and speak with him for more information.
  • Slowfix hands you a large sealed envelope which he says contains documents pertaining to Notched Bone and Dedean. He needs these papers taken to Dripwix to be signed, but is too busy to do this himself. He asks you to help him by delivering the papers to Dripwix, who is currently on patrol at the Arkhitekton.
  • Dripwix happily signs the paperwork and returns it to you, asking you to deliver it to Notched Bone back at Idyllshire.
  • Notched Bone quickly opens the envelope to find signed citizenship papers for both himself and Dedean. Overcome with the joy of finally having found a place to call home after years of being mistreated, he and Dedean vow to repay the goblins for their unrelenting kindness by doing all they can to help Idyllshire grow into a great and bustling metropolis.

  • Drydox's capital relocation plan has run into some early difficulties.
  • Drydox tells you of plans afoot to move the capital of the new goblin republic from Idyllshire to the abandoned buildings of the Answering Quarter. However, the goblin she has sent to survey the site, a novice by the name of Boomshox, has yet to return. She bids you to head into the Dravanian hinterlands and check on Boomshox's safety.
  • You find Boomshox alive and well, yet distinctly disgruntled. She is keen to conclude her survey as quickly as possible, but the local wildlife insist on interfering with her work. She asks you to slay five crawlers in the vicinity of the Answering Quarter, so that she might finish her fieldwork in peace.
  • You slay the crawlers, making the local area safer for mapmaking goblins. Return to Boomshox to report your success.
  • Boomshox is pleased to hear of your victory over the crawlers and pledges to resume her fieldwork with renewed vigor. There is still much and more to be surveyed, but the sooner she completes her work, the sooner she can return home to Idyllshire.

  • It transpires that Woolnix's friend is taking longer to gather junk in the Answering Quarter than anticipated. Woolnix himself has grown more worried with every passing bell, and, given that you are there to help, bids that you seek out his comrade.
  • You speak to the startled goblin, and learn that he was set upon by some mysterious fiend whilst hunting for junk. See what attacked him, and defeat them if necessary.
  • You walk up the steps, and are greeted by the sight of two Sharlayan mammets, presumably left behind to deter intruders. Though they attack, you repel them with ease, and ensure they will no more trouble travelers. Return to Woolnix's friend, and give him the news.
  • The goblin is much relieved to learn he will no longer fall under attack from the mammets. He says he will finish his junk hunting, and then return to the Cenotaph. Make your way back there, and give your full report to Woolnix.

  • Steam appears to be rising from Midnight Dew's beautifully bedecked ears.

  • You meet with Midnight Dew in the Answering Quarter and she briefs you on her plan to catch the robbers. As the stock they stole is too heavy to be transported on foot, she predicts that the bandits hope to escape by boat. While she contacts her comrades to have them stake out the riverbank, she asks that you investigate the Answering Quarter ruins to see if any sign of the bandits or their ill-gotten booty yet remains.
  • You chance upon a trio of bandits guarding a chest and they immediately attack. Lay the thugs low and retrieve the stolen goods.
  • You collect the chest the thugs were guarding, a heavy casket of oak and gold marked with the initials “M” and “D.” Return the stolen goods to Midnight Dew to the north of the Answering Quarter.
  • You present the chest to Midnight Dew, who immediately recognizes it as her own. She thanks you for its recovery, and asks that you continue to lend her your expert assistance in retrieving the remainder of her inventory.

  • Your reputation precedes you, if the wide-eyed look the stranger is favoring you with is any indication.
  • While passing through Idyllshire you find yourself accosted by a boisterous stranger, who marks you as a notorious adventurer prone to picking fights with gods. Though he claims to admire your “work,” he observes that, because you do not undertake such trials by yourself, it must be difficult to tell if you are pulling your weight. He too has such worries, which is why he has been training in Stone, Sky, Sea─a new training ground of some repute, of which a goodly adventurer outside Idyllshire can tell you more.
  • Although he stumbles more than a few times in his explanation, the guide tells you that the new training ground, which was opened by the Adventurers' Guild, offers a variety of striking dummies which are tailored to the strength of certain legendary beings. By defeating these dummies in the allotted time, you can determine whether or not you have the potential to go toe-to-toe with said beings─that is, if you can survive their onslaught, for unlike their real-life counterparts, the dummies do not hit back...

She instructs you to return to the Forgotten Knight, and demand that Ardolain allow you access to a higher tier of hunting.
  • Ardolain defers to Yloise's judgment, and allows you access to more advanced marks. He suggests that you peruse the Clan Hunt board to examine the targets Clan Centurio reserve for their more advanced hunters.
  • You examine the Clan Hunt board, and the level three bills posted thereon. Journal

  • Midnight Dew reckons you're the right woman for the job.
  • Midnight Dew's eyes light up at your arrival. As the Roegadyn tells it, she's been charged with finding a willing and able adventurer to brave the halls of the Great Gubal Library to retrieve a certain leather-bound tome from the forbidden vaults on its uppermost floors. Complicating matters is a carelessly cast-open door, through which a host of voidsent and other unpleasant vistors have invited themselves in. Having heard the tales of your past exploits, Midnight Dew is convinced you'd be uniquely suited to sweeping the place clean and returning with the tome in question. Should you be willing to offer your services, make for the Dravanian hinterlands and rendezvous with her in front of the library's entrance.
  • Heartened by your eagerness to lend your aid, Midnight Dew provides you with directions to the portal that will lead you directly to the forbidden archives. What extradimensional terrors lurk within? What is the nature of this tome that Midnight Dew's undisclosed client seeks? Will the adventure ever be the same without your stalwart, swish-swish-arooing companion Broomsy? The answers to all these questions and more lie within. ※The Great Gubal Library (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • You emerge from the halls of the Great Gubal Library with an ancient leather-bound tome in hand. Deliver it to Midnight Dew in Idyllshire, and hope that it is indeed the one her client seeks.
  • Upon receiving the tome, a delighted Midnight Dew promptly summons her heretofore-anonymous client, now revealed as Yayake, receptionist of the Thaumaturges' Guild. The bookish Lalafell swiftly confirms that the impressive volume is indeed that which she sought─to wit, a comprehensive catalogue of all the works of wisdom housed within the cavernous library's countless shelves. She further explains that recovering this index was but the first step in a grand plan to renovate the library, that it might once again serve as a center of learning for scholars the realm over. With a somewhat-concerning aside regarding destructive magicks she hopes to master with the library's resources at her disposal, she offers you her gratitude and due recompense for your efforts.

Objectives

  • Rendezvous with Midnight Dew at the Great Gubal Library.
  • Retrieve the leather-bound tome from the Great Gubal Library (Hard).

He quickly scampers off before supplying any of the relevant details, save that it involves lending your aid to one Khloe Aliapoh, a shopkeep at Rowena's Center for Cultural Promotion whose mere smile is seemingly sufficient to reduce the man to a stammering clod. Investigate and hope that you've seen the last of that sad buffoon.
  • You introduce yourself to Khloe Aliapoh, a charming Miqo'te girl with a love for telling stories of heroes and derring-do. She explains that recently she fears that her tales are starting to sound the same, and have not been lifting the spirits of her troubled friend as once they did. She furnishes you with a journal that she has dubbed Wondrous Tails, and entreats you to fill its pages with accounts of your own adventures, that she might draw inspiration from them to fashion new narratives of her own.
