Patch2.0

Journal

  • Maucolyn's teeth are chattering from something other than cold, and he has the beseeching look of one seeking an adventurer's cure to a nasty ill.
  • Maucolyn's visit to the snowhouse has given him a bad fright. a voice without a mouth is troubling indeed, and you have been tasked with discovering what it is that speaks in the icy shelter.
  • The speaker is a melting snowman, built by some knight in a carefree moment. Its sorrow at the impending thaw has given it voice. Reach across the vast gulf of common sense and /rally the snowman.
  • Your discomfort with this relationship is all too obvious. the snowman is affronted, and you fear the anger will further unfreeze his flesh. /soothe him or you shall be responsible for his sad demise.
  • Your attempt to comfort the man of snow is well played─desperation has birthed many great moments in acting. the snowman is in an expansive mood, though still melancholy. Unearth your inner lickspittle and /cheer him with all your heart.
  • Sometimes, passions burn the brightest when the end is near. His ardor enkindled by your lusty cheer, the snowman demands you /blowkiss to him as proof of your fondness.
  • In a few minutes with you, the snowman has lived a lifetime─and now he is ready to go quietly into that good night. Tell him /goodbye.
  • The snowman subsides into silence. Tears prickle your eyelids but you do not weep, for you know the pain of frostbitten cheeks. Maucolyn will learn the truth, and mayhap weep in your stead.
  • Maucolyn happily dismisses the talking snowman as a youthful prank. a happy customer means a job well done, but your heart tells you it was no mummery.

  • Wild-eyed and near wordless with shock, a deeply shaken Duvicauroix seeks an intrepid sword to hunt a ravening horror.
  • A creature both large and vicious has attacked a caravan, leaving all but Duvicauroix dead. You judge that whatever it is, it will return to the scene of the slaughter to feed. Lurk near the bloodstained snow and strike when the creature appears.
  • The slaughterer of the caravan turns out to be the diminutive white death, whose size belies its vast appetite for blood. from this day on, you can claim to have vanquished death, though many will be nonplussed by the jest. Tell Duvicauroix that the deed is done.
  • Duvicauroix hears your report with amazement. While the size of the white death causes him some consternation, he is glad to hear that his companions are avenged and the road to the Observatorium is safe again.

Patch2.0

Journal

  • Prairillot needs a favor of you, and the chagrin it causes him is almost payment enough for the job.
  • As the relentless cold batters Skyfire Locks, Prairillot is vexed to discover that there are no men to spare for firewood duty, and he must avail himself of an adventurer's help. Your task is to gather eight bundles of firewood from the area around Skyfire Locks.
  • You have eight bundles of firewood, dry and ready for the stove. They should be delivered to Stephannot on the east hill ere he and his men freeze to death.
  • Stephannot's thanks has a forced ring to it, despite his obvious relief at having more fuel on hand for the killing chill of night. Many in these parts mistrust outlanders and mislike adventurers, a state of things that makes your stay in Coerthas an uneasy one.

Objectives

Journal

  • A man may die of want in a fort as well as a hovel, and Sylvaintel has need of an adept hunter to help victual the Locks.
  • Some Locks at Skyfire have little in the way of extra supplies laid in for hungry, shivering masses. Fortunately, the karakuls are dinner and dress in one. Cull them and collect their meat and skin.
  • What does not ache of your hands is numb with cold, but the work is done. Deliver three each of the mutton slices and sheepskin to the four sentries at the Locks.
  • You deliver the meat and skin to the four sentries, to varying responses. It is a curious fact that while Ishgard may worship one god, they no more speak in one voice than those who follow the Twelve, as is right and proper. Inform Sylvaintel that your task is complete.
  • Clearly, Sylvaintel has come to trust not only your abilities but your discretion. He shares his fear that Ishgard faces an existential challenge─and while grateful for your aid, already he begins to ponder further preparations against the shadows of future tribulations.

Objectives

  • Collect skin and meat from karakuls.
  • Deliver the supplies to sentries.

Journal

  • Stephannot has no love for adventurers, but beggars cannot be choosers and your help is urgently needed.
  • One of Stephannot's young recruits has gone missing after leaving for Camp Dragonhead. He is likely lost on the north road where wild creatures sometimes stalk soft prey. Follow the recruit's trail while it is still fresh.
  • After a brutal battle in which you nearly lost the source of your roguish charm, the croc is dispatched. Like any good sleuth, you search the body and find a scarred silver ring, the least unspeakable of the creature's visceral cargo. See it to Stephannot's hands.
  • Stephannot confirms that the ring belonged to the young recruit. You are surprised to initially find him so resistant to the obvious truth, for he struck you as a pragmatic man. It seems that in Ishgard, being devoured by beastkin shames the eaten...

Objectives

  • Follow the recruit's trail.

  • Duchesnelt would prevail upon a passing adventurer to search for his wayward daughter.
  • Duchesnelt's daughter has slipped out alone, a move neither wise nor politic for a girl gently born. a frantic Duchesnelt would have you go to the Weeping Saint and speak with her.
  • While making light of her father's concern, the girl shows a streak of caution born of common sense. She bids you look about for anything suspicious in the vicinity.
  • You find a man studying Duchesnelt's daughter with the intensity of a jackal. His hackles raised by your simple questions, he abruptly leaves, dropping something. Pick up the dull knife.
  • There are less nefarious reasons a man might stare at a young woman. Have you deprived an honest fellow of his whittling tool, or was it something else? Show the dull knife to Duchesnelt's daughter.
  • Uneasy at the sight of a blade brought into a holy place, Duchesnelt's daughter hastens back to Dragonhead. Perhaps Duchesnelt will know more, when you show him the knife.
  • You show Duchesnelt the dull knife, confirming his suspicions. Even with his daughter's safe return, Duchesnelt fears that the unbelievers mean to harm her for their own mad purposes...

  • How many ways can a man die well? Corentiaux wishes to speak to you of this and more.
  • House Fortemps has placed a reward on the heads of snow wolves responsible for attacks on the supply train. Though not even yearlings, the beasts are vicious and have a taste for man-flesh. Slay four wolves and skin them as proof of your deed.
  • Where there were four wolves, there are now four pelts and a churn of red snow. You have scoured the blood from your hands, and are now ready to return to Corentiaux with the proof.
  • Many in the High Houses prefer to leave problems unsolved rather than ask for assistance from adventurers─especially when the problem is a lowly predator and the prey is a lowly servant or ten. Corentiaux speaks of this with more than a trace of bitterness. Unusual it is for a knight, and possibly dangerous...

  • The wykes are slain. the lowly adventurer succeeds where the High Houses have failed, though you should keep the thought to yourself if you enjoy owning a tongue. Return to Ser Corentiaux and give him the good news.
  • Your report of the wykes' demise was heard with much delight. Adding the reward to your growing purse, you wonder why as insightful a man as Ser Corentiaux does not see what every child of the road does: the land itself has turned inimical, and lays siege to the hosts of Ishgard.

  • Not all knights are indifferent to the plight of the commonfolk, and Ser Yaelle, one such earthbound warrior, wants a word with you.
  • Ser Yaelle, she of the cool and speculative gaze, appears to enjoy the trust of the commonfolk; at their behest, she bids you slay a muttonmaw ogre. the bait is her very own karakul, Sebastian. but first, he must be captured with a length of brambleweed rope.
  • Take the bound karakul to Providence Point and leave him at the decoy point.
  • With the bait set, all that remains is for the trap to be sprung. Hide yourself away and wait for the unwitting prey. Be ready to strike as soon as the ogre appears, or Sebastian will pay the price.
  • The ogre is dead, and the poor karakul is safe, though trembling and wide-eyed. Unbind him that he may return to his mistress.
  • You have unbound the bound Sebastian, and he seems grateful to be free... and alive. Make your way back to Camp Dragonhead to speak with Ser Yaelle.
  • Unlikely though it may seem, Sebastian has beaten you back to Ser Yaelle, as she informs you that she just finished brushing the brave karakul. the ogre will devour no more of the commonfolk's flock, and Ser Yaelle is well pleased.

  • A wagon contracted by House Fortemps is apparently stalled somewhere on the east road. with Belmont and other sellswords busy with other sundry tasks, it falls to you to locate the wagon.
  • You discover the wagon on its side and the occupants dead. They had not yet even begun shaping the new wheel shaft before they were taken by the Ixal. You slay the birdmen, but a new worm of unease coils in your belly. Go speak with Belmont.
  • You tell Belmont of what passed, reflecting that too many of your reports from Coerthas end with vengeance rather than rescue. • Belmont affects a sellsword's cynicism, but the Gods' Quiver in him dies hard. So urgently does he seek a scout that he will hire one himself.
  • A veteran of many skirmishes with the Ixal, Belmont suspects that there is more to the beastmen's presence in this part of the world than meets the eye. He bids you use your stealth and cunning to search their lair to the east.
  • After a review of the Ixal's housekeeping and a battle to the death, you discover nothing more unusual than a pile of yew logs. Still, they grew not from these woods, and the birdmen hardly kept them as pets. Return to the camp and give one of the logs to Belmont.
  • According to Belmont, the yew you brought back is found only in the Twelveswood and is much favored by the Ixal, who plant the tree to create living fortifications. Belmont believes that this is evidence that the Ixal are settling in Coerthas, seizing on the distraction afforded by Ishgard's many troubles.

  • When a chance to see a real-life heretic presents itself, how could an adventurer resist? Visit with Boyle and see what rattles his cage today.
  • The heretic Boyle demands a sacrifice to offer to the dragons. This stretches even the very elastic definition of an adventurer's trade, but the imprisoned madman excites your pity. Ferdillaix may know if something can be done.
  • While unmoved by the broken, raving man in his dungeons, Ferdillaix gives you a dead rat solely to have some peace and quiet. a mangy dungeon rat is no fatted calf, but give it to Boyle anyway, for heretics cannot be choosers.
  • Boyle croons ecstatically over the dead rat, and begins some sort of a mumbled ritual chant. the less you linger near these doomed men, the better for your health. Make your report to Ferdillaix, and make haste.
  • Ferdillaix grouses about the din caused by Boyle. It does seem inconvenient that in exposing a man's heresy, the inquisitors also make him loud and more than a little mad. However, no good can come of humoring unbelievers or criticizing the inquisitors...

Objectives

  • Speak with Ferdillaix.

  • Roused from his gloom by the shocking news, Laurence urges you out after only a few hurried words. Your destination must be the forest to the southeast, for when the music of love and death plays, there is naught to do but dance.
  • Laurence's treasure turns out to be an alchemic concoction of Ul'dahn origin. What you hold in your hand cost a man his freedom, and may save a woman's life. Deliver it to Charmine forthwith, and the Fury take you if you drop it.

  • Auriaune realizes that the poisoned wine was in the crate of stolen supplies that you previously recovered for her. She posits that the thieves poisoned the wine under the assumption that the crate would be recovered. It has since come to light that these men were not working alone. They had accomplices who have been sighted several times at Camp Riversmeet. Go there, find these heretics, and question them.

  • Redwald is eager to continue his investigation.
  • Redwald is desperate to find an antidote to the poison afflicting his troops. He provides you with a report outlining the patients' symptoms and asks you to deliver it to Noirterel. He hopes that he might be able to help develop a cure.
  • Though Noirterel does not know how to develop an antidote, he is reminded of a book, predating the Calamity, that described a poison-breathing dragon. He does not know any more himself, but suspects this dragon may be the source of the poison afflicting the troops. Someone more knowledgeable about the Sixth Astral Era might be more helpful. Find Sigan and show him Redwald's report.
  • Sigan relates an old Coerthan tale describing the source of the dragons' poisonous breath─a deadly and poisonous type of brambleweed known as thorny viper. a creature that nests near Gorgagne Mills, the blackblood zu, eats this same toxic plant. Whatever grants the zu immunity to the thorny viper may hold the key to creating an antidote to the dragon poison ultimately stemming from the same root. Sigan provides you with an ember and some fragrant herbs. Travel to Gorgagne Mills, use the herbs to lure the zu from its nest, and retrieve its blood.
  • You find a conveniently located brazier and light it with the ember. Use this hearty fire to burn the aromatic herbs and draw the zu from hiding.
  • The burning herbs will soon attract the zu. Lie in wait for the beast. When it appears, kill it and take its precious blood.
  • You have slain the zu. Return to Sigan with its blood.
  • No sooner do you deliver the blood to Sigan than Redwald appears. He apologizes wholeheartedly for disregarding the hard-earned wisdom of Coerthas' native citizens. He sends for Ishgard's finest alchemists to refine the zu blood into an antidote and pledges to repay Sigan's assistance with the hospitality he deserves.

  • Margyt is growing increasingly worried about Ayleth.
  • Margyt thinks that Ayleth has returned to the site of your previous fight with the dragon, south of the Convictory at Red Rim. She is quite uneasy about the situation and asks you to travel there and check on Ayleth's safety.
  • You have found Ayleth and slain the dragon that lurked nearby. Talk to her and make sure that she is uninjured.
  • Ayleth laments her weakness and her inability to bring about any change in what she sees as a corrupt nation. She asks for the fang from the dragon you slew, intending to deliver it to Margyt.
  • Ayleth takes the fang and leaves for the Convictory. Return there yourself and inform Margyt that Ayleth is unharmed.
  • Margyt is glad that Ayleth is safe. She explains that the girl's drive to bring about change in Ishgard stems from the murder of her lover by an Ishgardian nobleman. Many lowborn seem to share her sentiments, but are afraid to speak out for fear of being branded heretics.

Objectives

  • Find Ayleth.
  • Speak with Ayleth.
  • Give the dragon fang to Ayleth.
  • Report to Margyt.

Journal

  • Margyt wants to try a new strategy for finding Ayleth.
  • With no idea where to look next for Ayleth, Margyt suggests talking to the troops at the Convictory to see if anyone might know where she could be. Ask around and see what you can find out.
  • Ayleth was spotted at the North Star by one of the scouts on patrol. Travel there and find her.
  • An unknown nobleman offered Ayleth power and status in exchange for the dragon tooth, but it was a trick. He stole the tooth and left Ayleth with nothing. Margyt assures her that despite not having status or social power, if they work together, they can bring about change in the Ishgardian society. Ayleth agrees to work together with Margyt to this end. Margyt asks you to talk to her back at the Convictory so she can continue the discussion in the safety of the camp.
  • Though no one soldier at the Convictory holds great power, Margyt explains that, like any cohesive fighting unit, if she and Ayleth combine their strength and work together, they can achieve much more than they ever could alone. with this in mind, they resolve to change Ishgard for the better.

Patch3.0

Journal

  • Dominiac wants to talk to you about his plans to attract dragons.
  • The corpse of the wyvern you slew has been stolen. Margyt is heading the investigation into this worrying theft. Speak with her for more details.
  • Margyt knows who stole the wyvern corpse: the very same nobleman that stole the dragon tooth from Ayleth. After an attempt at a diplomatic solution, the man has rendered his demands: he wants to lead the operation to attract and slay a dragon using the dead wyvern.
  • Much though Dominiac is loath to rob his unit of the glory of slaying the dragon, his duty to the people of Ishgard takes priority. He decides to submit to the thief's ultimatum. Saintrelmaux is still searching for the dragon and was last seen near the Dreaming Dragon. Find him and inform him of the change of leadership.
  • Saintrelmaux was approached by a nobleman carrying the wyvern corpse claiming leadership of the operation. a disagreement broke out but was interrupted by an ajattara attack. Both the wyvern corpse and several lives, including the nobleman's, were lost in the attack. Assist Ayleth with the cleanup effort.
  • Ayleth wants nothing more than to chase the ajattara down and kill it. She asks you to search the area for something─anything that might attract the beast.
  • Among the wreckage of the ajattara's attack, you find a wyvern bone. Ayleth is hopeful that this will be enough to draw out the ancient Dravanian. Return to Dominiac and apprise him of these serious developments.
  • Dominiac tells you that word has reached him of an impending Dravanian attack─a vast force sweeping towards the Convictory, led by an ajattara. Dominiac marks a location on your map, near Banepool. He asks you to travel there and use the wyvern bone to draw the Horde's attention long enough for the Convictors to prepare their defenses. Travel to Banepool and distract the attackers, or at least the terrible dragon leading and coordinating the attack.
  • You place the wyvern bone at the requested location. with any luck, it should attract the ajattara leading the attack on the Convictory. Lie in wait for it and ambush it when it arrives.
  • You have made short work of the ajattara. This has hopefully bought the Convictors the time they needed to prepare for the Dravanian onslaught. Recover the wyvern bone, lest it attract more dragons.
  • You have recovered the wyvern bone. Report back to Dominiac.
  • Your battle with the ajattara bought enough time for the Convictors to mount a successful defense against the now-leaderless Dravanian attack. Dominiac hopes that this victory will draw the Holy See's attention to the importance of what allowed this victory: the strong cooperation between the front lines and their supporting forces. He hopes that this might lead to a change in the way the Convictors fight, going from a group of paupers and outcasts, squabbling for credit and recognition, to an elite, organized fighting unit. He suggests that you find Ayleth and Saintrelmaux. They will be glad to know that your fight went well and that you are unharmed.
  • Seeing a signet ring Ayleth carries, Saintrelmaux explains how he was born into nobility and that the ring bears his house's crest. Ayleth received the ring from a woman she cared for after the Calamity─Saintrelmaux's mother. the two realize that─despite their different backgrounds─at the Convictory, they are equal. This strengthens their resolve to see Ishgard changed for the better. Relay this uplifting news to Dominiac.
  • Whether their common ground be coincidence or fate, Dominiac is glad that his troops have come to understand their equal footing. He thanks you again for your assistance in seeing his plan through, and hopes he can find some way to repay you in the future.

  • Speak with Margyt.
  • Speak with Dominiac.
  • Speak with Saintrelmaux.

  • The dead care not for justice, but Wealdtheow would see them have it just the same.
  • Recognizing you as the honored ward of House Fortemps, Wealdtheow implores you to enter the ruins of the Dusk Vigil and reclaim a priceless treasure: an ice rondel set in the helm of a sculpture within the Vigil's chapel. Though the Vigil has remained abandoned since it fell, knights now stand watch to deter scavengers. You will need to identify yourself before you can enter.
  • The knight grants you leave to enter, but not before warning you that wild beasts and worse infest the ruins. the recent sighting of a massive winged creature gives you pause as well... Nevertheless, an agreement was made. Wealdtheow will have his stone. ※The Dusk Vigil can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • In the days following the Calamity, western Coerthas was abandoned by the knights of Ishgard, save for the Dusk Vigil, whose defenders refused to withdraw. Their tragic sacrifice is a tale known to many... but only those who have ventured within the ruins know what truly became of those brave men and women. as you hold the ice rondel in your hand, you consider how much you might share─and how much you might keep to yourself.
  • Was it for duty, honor, or faith that Ser Yuhelmeric refused to yield the Dusk Vigil, even though he knew it would cost the lives of him and his knights? or perhaps something else entirely─a sapphire, perhaps, one of many precious things stolen from his family by the inquisition. Wealdtheow knows that his family can never be made whole again, but for his son and the wife he left behind, at least this injustice can be righted.

Objectives

  • Speak with Nadinie.
  • Use the Duty Finder to enter the Dusk Vigil.
  • Deliver the ice rondel to Wealdtheow.
