  • Forgemaster Brithael wishes to see how well you can handle your new hammer.
  • As a firm believer in hands-on education, Brithael has instructed you to smelt bronze, an alloy of tin and copper. The requisite ore can be purchased from Smydhaemr, the guild supplier, but the essential fire shard will have to be obtained elsewhere. Craft a single bronze ingot and deliver it to Brithael.
  • Brithael is reasonably impressed by the quality of your bronze and declares that you have a gift for the craft. However, he stresses that no amount of talent can make up for a lack of experience, and asks that you return for further training only after the fundamentals have become second nature to you. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 5.

  • Satisfied with your recent progress, Brithael has tasked you with crafting three bronze cross-pein hammers. He has also suggested a number of ways to acquire materials, such as mining and hunting. Craft three bronze cross-pein hammers and present them to the forgemaster.
  • Your hammers have met with Brithael's approval, and he rewards your efforts with a amateur's file, which should prove most useful in the days to come. He urges you to familiarize yourself with the tool, and return once you have gained more experience. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 10.

  • Forgemaster Brithael has something important to tell you.
  • Having singularly failed to articulate his blacksmithing philosophy, Brithael irritatedly bids you craft a dozen bronze rivets. Prepare the requested items and deliver them to him.
  • Brithael pronounces your rivets perfect before illustrating the importance of high-quality craftsmanship with another of his odd yet effective examples. Now that you have gained sufficient experience, he suggests that you try marketing your skills to other Lominsans by speaking with T'mokkri at the Drowning Wench. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 15.

  • Forgemaster Brithael seems upset. Perhaps there is something you can do to help.
  • Forgemaster Brithael has no interest in matters of coin, but has nevertheless been ordered by Forgemaster H'naanza of the Armorers' Guild to find a way to increase exports to Gridania. This requires him to work closely with a trader named Faezahr, whom he seems loath to meet. Speak with the merchant outside the guild on the forgemaster's behalf.
  • Faezahr wastes no time explaining how best to approach the Gridanians. However, before he will agree to negotiate on the guild's behalf, he requires samples of merchandise to present to potential buyers. Craft a bronze spatha and a spiked bronze labrys for the seasoned trader.
  • Having initially dismissed you as a mere errand girl, Faezahr is impressed by the quality of your craftsmanship, and readily agrees to present the weapons you made to his Gridanian contacts. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 20.

  • Forgemaster Brithael has important news he would like to share with you.
  • It appears Faezahr has made progress towards securing new contracts for the guild, largely thanks to the samples you supplied. After congratulating himself on a job well done, Brithael assigns you your next task. Not only must you craft him an iron cross-pein hammer, but you must also attach a single materia to it. Should your knowledge of materia be lacking, he suggests you consult the goblin Mutamix in central Thanalan. Prepare the requested item and deliver it to the forgemaster.
  • Brithael has nothing but the highest praise for your hammer, confessing that he covets the tool for his own use. He goes on to suggest that your talents might prove key to promoting the guild's services to a wider audience─though what that would entail remains a subject for another day. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 25.

  • Your expertly forged steel serves to elevate you further in Faezahr's esteem, but his opinion of Brithael remains as low as ever. • Forgemaster Brithael is eyeing you with an ominous grin on his face. It may be wise to inquire as to why.
  • Apparently, your recent accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. According to Brithael, a wealthy Ul'dahn has requested you by name for a prestigious commission. Speak with Faezahr for more information.
  • Although the commission represents a chance to win respect and renown, Faezahr warns you that failure is not an option. He then directs you to meet with the client's representative, a woman named Khuswyb. Summon your courage and address her directly.
  • Khuswyb's master wishes to present his chief groundsman with a plumed iron hatchet in recognition of his loyal service. Needless to say, your client will settle for nothing short of perfection. Craft a plumed iron hatchet of unsurpassed quality and present it to Khuswyb.
  • Your masterpiece has a profound impact on Khuswyb, and she accepts it with great fanfare. Relay the good news to Faezahr.
  • Faezahr seems unsurprised by your success, though he is quick to note Khuswyb's enthusiastic endorsement. The trader then begrudgingly bids you bear word of your success to the forgemaster─though not before once again expressing his low opinion of the man. Return to Brithael and report all that has transpired.
  • Brushing aside Faezahr's comments, Brithael reminisces about the day you first joined the Blacksmiths' Guild, claiming that he always knew you had the potential for greatness. He then swears that as long as you remain loyal to the guild, you will be able to count on its unwavering support. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 35.

  • Brithael's love of drink has caught up with him, as he appears to be suffering from a prolonged hangover. Unfortunately, this means that he is in no condition to fill Faezahr's latest commission. Offer your services to the merchant on behalf of the forgemaster.
  • The steel bhuj Faezahr seeks to have forged is intended as a present for his favorite axeman, and he will accept nothing less than the finest quality. Craft the item to the best of your ability and present it to Faezahr for inspection.
  • Your bhuj elicits an uncharacteristic expression of bloodlust from Faezahr, though he manages to quickly regain his composure. • As your reputation continues to grow, it seems even your guildmates have come to covet your wares. However, the forgemaster does not expect you to furnish your guildmates with the tools they seek; rather, he would have you craft a single wrapped crowsbeak hammer of impeccable quality to serve as a model for the other smiths. When it is ready, deliver it to Brithael for inspection.
  • Though Brithael briefly jests that your hammer might serve to discourage your forgemates from pursuing their craft, it is clear that he hopes your work will instead inspire others to follow in your footsteps and become better blacksmiths. Only time will tell if your forgemates will rise to the challenge. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 45.

  • Forgemaster Brithael is delighted to see you.
  • Everyone at the Blacksmiths' Guild is in high spirits of late, and Brithael is no exception. The forgemaster even managed to enjoy the company of Faezahr for a change, who over drinks with Brithael spoke of his latest obsession: a young female gladiator, whom he has a mind to lavish with gifts. Precisely what those gifts are to be remains to be seen, but what is clear is that Faezahr means to ask you to craft them.
  • Faezahr bids you craft a pair of cobalt knuckles, a buccaneer's bardiche, and a cobalt shamshir worthy of his gladiator muse, Muriel. Naturally, it will be necessary for him to first inspect and approve of the weapons prior to delivery. Craft the items to the best of your ability and present them to Faezahr when finished.
  • The merchant waxes poetic as he evaluates your weapons, before judging them fit for his warrior goddess. Believing it only proper for Muriel to meet the woman who made such splendid wares, Faezahr bids you deliver his gifts to Muriel, who can be found aboard the Astalicia.
  • Muriel treasures the gifts you have brought, and seems overjoyed to have made your acquaintance─so overjoyed, in fact, that you cannot help but question the sincerity of her words. In any case, the commission is complete; should Faezahr be unsatisfied with the result, the fault will not lie with you. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 50.

  • Forgemaster Brithael has a special commission only you can handle.
  • The guild is busier than ever due to your numerous past efforts. Countless customers have requested you by name, but Brithael has only seen fit to oblige a single one. Speak with Faezahr to learn the details of this special commission.
  • A former champion of the Coliseum has come all the way from Gridania to speak with you in person. You will find the client waiting for you on the platform just below the Drowning Wench, where you may speak in private.
  • The client, who chose not to divulge her name, wishes to furnish a struggling gladiator with a weapon that befits his skill and experience. This gladiator, known as the Bronze Bull, is apparently another former champion who has chosen to fight under a different name. You are to craft a quality cobalt winglet, meld to it a savage might materia of the third grade, and deliver the finished product to Faezahr.
  • Upon confirming that your sword satisfies the client's requirements, Faezahr summons the Bronze Bull to collect the weapon in person, while the anonymous client surreptitiously listens. The gladiator is at first puzzled by the gesture, unable to understand the motives of your patron. However, when Faezahr delivers a cryptic message, the Bronze Bull immediately identifies your client as the Hellfire Phoenix, who he thought had perished in the Calamity years ago. He accepts the sword, proclaiming that he will one day stand atop the Coliseum and do it justice, and leaves without meeting your client. Speak with her and see if these events transpired as she desired.
  • Your client explains that her desire to remain distant from the Coliseum and its affairs drove her to deliver the sword in this manner. Nevertheless, she could not resist using Greinfarr's words to reveal her identity to the former champion. Having entrusted your payment to the forgemaster, she bids you return to him to receive it.
  • Brithael reflects on how you single-handedly changed the guild's fortunes, stating that the impact of your deeds will be felt for years to come. With a glint in his eye and a smile on his face, he calls you one of the best blacksmiths he has ever known. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael once you have met the following requirements: ※ You must have registered a product key for FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward to your service account. ※ You must have completed the main scenario quest “Before the Dawn.”

  • Forgemaster Brithael's eyes seem to shine with pride.
  • Forgemaster Brithael thinks it is high time that a smith of your caliber earned realm-wide renown. He has even found you a potential employer: a noble house of Ishgard. Their representative, one Fremondain, awaits you at the Drowning Wench. Make your way there, and hear the man out.
  • Fremondain, you learn, is a steward in the service of Baroness Laurisse de Jervaint. She is the lone daughter of House Jervaint, a family that has fallen from its once-lofty position within Ishgardian society. Thus, while the need for a blacksmith is great, the most that Fremondain can offer for your services is a healthy dose of “honor.” If this meager offer has not dissuaded you, seek out the steward in the Jeweled Crozier in Ishgard.
  • After arriving in Ishgard, you speak with Fremondain. He introduces Baroness Laurisse to you, and explains the cause of House Jervaint's destitution─Ser Jervaint, the lady's father, lost his knighthood. Now, however, Ishgard's upcoming grand tournament may afford the baroness an opportunity to restore the family's good name─the champion of this event will be offered the knighthood her father lost. Before explaining how you fit into all of this, however, Fremondain notices that you are tired from your journey, and bids you seek him out again after you have recovered. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Fremondain upon reaching level 53.

  • Fremondain is fretting about Baroness Laurisse.
  • Fremondain tells you that the armory of House Jervaint has fallen out of repair. He has enlisted your services to restore the family's finery. Of immediate concern is Baroness Laurisse's cuirass, which is rusted, dented, and falling apart. However, Fremondain realizes suddenly that his mistress may be wearing it on some ill-conceived adventure to the north of Falcon's Nest even as you speak. Fremondain may be worried for nothing, but he nevertheless asks you to ensure no harm befalls his mistress.
  • You find the baroness healthy. The same cannot be said for the cutpurses tied up nearby. After a bit of conversation, you learn that the daughter of House Jervaint was patrolling the area in search of the wanted men in order to earn a bit of coin. However, during the scuffle, the rivets holding Baroness Laurisse's cuirass together broke, rendering the armor useless. Inform Fremondain of his mistress's safety─and her cuirass's demise─at the Jeweled Crozier.
  • Fremondain is dismayed to learn of Baroness Laurisse's cuirass. It is his mistress's only suit of armor─how can she enter the grand tournament without it? He bids you repair it by fashioning three high-quality mythrite rivets to reattach the otherwise sound plates together.
  • Fremondain gladly accepts the mythrite rivets, and praises the craftsmanship. Alas, his compliments will have to serve as payment until the fortunes of House Jervaint change─as they may very well do in the grand tournament. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Fremondain upon reaching level 55.

  • Fremondain's brow is deeply furrowed.
  • Baroness Laurisse has sent Fremondain a note to the effect that she means to hone her skills further in the Dravanian forelands. Her loyal steward is shocked, for that way lie dragons in great number. However, he cannot believe she would be so rash as to charge alone into the Horde, and reasons that she will stop once in Tailfeather. He pleads that you intercept her there, and dissuade her from this risky plan.
  • You find Baroness Laurisse together with a wounded chocobo hunter. As it happens, the man was attacked, and the daughter of House Jervaint defended him. However, this was not without cost─her beloved sword has snapped in two, either due to the ferocity of her attack, or the age of the blade. Upon arriving and learning the news, a distraught Fremondain asks that you forge a weapon worthy of the grand tournament─a high-quality titanium bastard sword. Deliver it to him at the Jeweled Crozier when it is complete.
  • You hand over the titanium bastard sword to a most gratified Fremondain just in time for the trial round of the tournament. Knowing you will wish to know the outcome, the steward asks that you wait in front of the Lightfeather Proving Grounds.
  • Baroness Laurisse appears shortly after you, leading Fremondain to fear for the worst. However, in fact, her early release signifies a stunning victory. With two bouts won, one tie, and five forfeits, she will move on to the next round of the tournament. The baroness reveals that it is not for her own sake that she seeks knighthood. Her father believed that the nobility should lead the people with actions, not words─a conviction that cost him his position. Now, the daughter of House Jervaint wishes to join the Temple Knights so that she may serve the people of Ishgard. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Fremondain upon reaching level 58.

  • Fremondain seems a bit more driven than normal.
  • It transpires that Fremondain wishes his mistress to wield Integrity, the sword of House Jervaint, her birthright, in the final round of the grand tourney. As you might predict, however, it is not in the right state. It has rusted through and is nigh unusable. Thus, Fremondain asks you to consult with Forgemaster Brithael to discover a way to restore the once-mighty blade.
  • Forgemaster Brithael is glad to see his favorite smithy, and shocked to learn you have not earned enough for a tankard of ale from House Jervaint. Yet, he reasons, a blacksmith's fame is tied to the heroes who wield his creations, and encourages you to continue with Baroness Laurisse for that reason alone. Moving along, he pronounces restoring Integrity to be beyond his skill. However, a certain fellow named Gerolt may be able to help. Make your way to Hyrstmill and consult with Eorzea's preeminent weaponsmith.
  • You attempt to show Integrity to Gerolt, who yells at you to either go away or take it up with Drake. The apprentice himself is eager to help, but lacks the skill. He believes he can yet persuade his master, but Gerolt's services will come at a cost─a high-quality titanium lump hammer. Apparently, the legendary smith's displeasure stems from the loss of his own tool to moneylenders. Aid the apprentice.
  • After admiring your handiwork, and offering praise for the hammer, Drake bids you speak again with Gerolt. His master ought to be more welcoming, he says.
  • While “welcoming” might be a stretch, Gerolt nevertheless looks at Integrity. Though he is quick to praise its construction─it being of fine adamantite, made pure by some ancient technique─he also says it is impossible to repair. However, there is a ray of hope; the sword's hilt holds the remains of some Ishgardian saint, and from this hallowed bone does the blade's power stem. It could be remade if you forge an adamantite winglet of the same shape, size, and quality as the original, and then transfer the reliquary to your creation. Return now to Fremondain at the Jeweled Crozier, and tell him of this interesting development.
  • You return Integrity to Fremondain, and reveal all you have learned. Although surprised, the steward nevertheless takes it in stride, and wonders aloud if the bone inside the original sword is that of Saint Finnea. He leaves you with a single thought: now that the final round of the grand tournament nears, perhaps a new blade will give Baroness Laurisse the edge she needs. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Fremondain upon reaching level 60.

  • Show Integrity to Brithael in Limsa Lominsa.
  • Show Integrity to Gerolt at Hyrstmill.

  • The final round of the grand tournament has come, and Fremondain informs you that Baroness Laurisse is off to a flying start. She has proven herself in the eyes of many spectators, and become a crowd favorite. However, now that she will face the final eight challengers, he fears his mistress needs every advantage. He bids you forge a high-quality adamantite winglet, of the same size and shape as the original Integrity. Do so, that the steward might present a truly fearsome weapon to the baroness. In order to complete this quest, you must have learned the advanced recipes contained within Master Blacksmith III.
  • Fremondain gratefully accepts the adamantite winglet, and transfers the sacred bone to the new weapon. Baroness Laurisse joins you, and Fremondain makes to present her the sword. However, in so doing, he reveals that he has not paid you so much as one gil. Taken aback, the baroness refuses the gift─until a few heartfelt words from her loyal steward cause her to change her mind. Yet she will not simply have it for free, and gives you the last remaining valuable of House Jervaint, the cygnine rosary, with the understanding that you will return it in exchange for her winnings in the tournament. Suddenly nervous, Baroness Laurisse leaves to find either great glory or abject failure in the final round. Fremondain bids you follow her to the Lightfeather Proving Grounds, and encourage her if necessary.
  • You find the baroness standing outside of the proving grounds. She is nervous, though she does not admit it in quite so many words. However, your presence allows her to find some measure of confidence, and the splendor of Integrity gives her even more. Thanking you, she turns and goes through the gates, and to whatever fate awaits therein. Join Fremondain in the Jeweled Crozier, and wait for tidings of the daughter of House Jervaint.
  • Baroness Laurisse returns with sad news: she lost in the first bout to an opponent far greater in stature and girth. However, such was her ferocity and bravery that the Temple Knights took notice. Via a messenger, they offer Baroness Laurisse the position of apprentice squire, and praise her valor. The man also inquires into the origin of Integrity, and Baroness Laurisse proudly proclaims it the work of Master . You return the cygnine rosary, and take your payment for all the work you have done... finally. The daughter of House Jervaint says that you are doubtless meant for greater things yet, and gives her thanks. • Forgemaster Brithael's eyes glisten with glee.
  • Forgemaster Brithael has received a letter from the Far East. It is from a prospective recruit who, aside from expressing interest in the guild and stating they will be arriving in Eorzea shortly, has neglected to mention anything of actual significance. Without a name, gender, or age to determine who they might be, Forgemaster Brithael knows there is only one person up to the task of tracking them down and seeing that they are escorted back. Make your way to the Limsa Lominsa ferry docks and see if anybody there catches your eye.
  • You come across a girl draped in Far Eastern finery, who─along with an unctuous-looking man─appears to have been apprehended by a Yellowjacket. As you approach, she calls out to you, asking if you have come to escort her to the Blacksmiths' Guild. The officer, thinking you know her, informs you he has arrested the young woman for attempting to slash at the man beside her for his unwelcome advances. He then proceeds to release her to you under the agreement that you keep her sword from her. The Far Eastern girl, clearly insulted, pipes up to say that the weapon is no regular sword but rather a katana she forged herself. She asks that you present it to Forgemaster Brithael as testament to her skill as a smithy. Show the girl to the guild and present her katana to Brithael.
  • As Forgemaster Brithael is appraising the quality of the katana, the girl from the docks bursts in through the doors. Mentioning she lost you on your way back to the guild, she then launches into a self-introduction. She is Sekka from Kugane, an aspiring swordsmith who has come to Eorzea to study under Brithael. When the forgemaster moves to induct her into the guild in an official capacity, however, she quickly declines the offer, instead begging him to take her under his wings off the books. He tells her the only way he can agree to those terms is if she were to share her family's smithing techniques in exchange for what she would learn at the guild─an offer she is quick to accept before leaving as abruptly as she came. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 63.

  • Forgemaster Brithael stares at you like a shipwrecked man who has just spotted land.
  • Forgemaster Brithael is beyond relieved to see you. According to him, ever since Sekka began her studies at the guild, she has taken to wandering the floors and criticizing everyone's work. Upon giving her a stern talking to about her unpleasant manner of conduct, she became upset and left in a flurry of angry words. It seems, however, this is not the first time she has stormed out over this very same argument, and Brithael asks that you try talking to her in his stead. He then points you in the direction of the Anchor Yard, where she normally goes to cool down. Make your way there and see if you can get through to her.
  • Sekka is of the belief that the Blacksmiths' Guild is wasting all its potential on fulfilling mundane tasks for clients. She tells you this is the root cause for the lack of self-improvement she has observed in all the guild members. She believes things should be run differently and tells you she intends to prove it to you. Return to the Blacksmiths' Guild and inform Forgemaster Brithael of just how well your talk with Sekka went.
  • You are met by a perturbed Brithael who tells you that Sekka has just challenged the guild. She said she intends to face off with a member of the forgemaster's choice to see who can better satisfy the next request which comes into the guild. Brithael would, of course, have you be the one to take her up on her challenge. It would seem fate is already in your favor, as the latest order you have received is from a customer you already know, and they are waiting to discuss the details of what they would have you make. Go to the Drowning Wench and speak with them.
  • As it conveniently turns out, Laurisse and Fremondain─the acquaintances you made in Ishgard─are your clients. They have come to have a sword forged for Fremondain so that he might have a means to protect himself when Laurisse's duties take her to distant lands for extended periods of time. Fremondain, telling you that he has grown frail in his old age, says he would prefer something light and easy to handle. Using the materials Laurisse provides, produce a high-quality featherlight shortsword and deliver the finished product to Brithael for inspection. ※In the event you lose the materials or the synthesis ends in failure, you may try again by speaking with Laurisse.
  • Fremondain admits that while both are excellent swords, he finds yours to be far superior to Sekka's. Flabbergasted, she attempts to convince him that hers beats yours in durability and sharpness, at which point Laurisse steps in to say that they are in fact of a comparable quality in both those aspects. Your sword, however, is more desirable because it takes into consideration the physical limitations of its wielder. Sekka, unwilling to accept defeat continues to argue, and Brithael then suggests she look to switching career paths because her attitude is unbecoming of a craftsman. Realizing her mistake, she reflects upon her conduct and apologizes for her outburst and earlier behavior before vowing to begin taking her studies at the guild more seriously. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 65.

  • Forgemaster Brithael has a twinkle in his eye that suggests he would like to make yet another request of you.
  • Forgemaster Brithael has received a request from a man named Shinto in the Far East, who has asked for the guild's most talented blacksmith to forge him a weapon. This seemingly standard commission, however, comes with an odd stipulation, which is that neither of you should mention anything about this to Sekka. While Brithael briefly puzzles over its implications, he tells you that you─the best smithy─will be going to fulfill Shinto's order. Make your way to the ferry docks and see what this mysterious Far Eastern man would have you forge.
  • Shinto hands you a hunk of rusted iron, and asks that you use it to create a katana. It seems the poor-quality metal is all the man can afford. Recognizing that this will be a challenging task, he urges you first consult Sekka before setting to work. As you make ready to leave, he gives you one last stern reminder to keep his identity a secret from her. Make your way to Anchor Yard and see if Sekka can assist you.
  • Given the high percentage of impurities and rust in the metal, Sekka proposes focusing solely on cultivating the durability of the blade as opposed to its sharpness. She fears that if you were to fold the already brittle iron too many times, it will make the blade prone to breakage. Suggesting you attempt to make a heavy uchigatana, she hands you half of the iron hunk, and holds on to the rest should you need to try again later. Make a high-quality heavy uchigatana and deliver it to Shinto, who awaits you at the docks. ※In the event that synthesis ends in failure, you may try again by speaking with Sekka.
  • Shinto begins by criticizing your work, saying that the shoddy craftsmanship trumps that of even the lesser swordsmiths of the Far East─or, at least, that is the critique he would have given you had you been furnished with decent materials. As it stands, he is impressed by the fact that you were even able to create an uchigatana, however poor, from the rusted iron he provided you with. Shinto then bids you return to Forgemaster Brithael to tell him that he is satisfied with your performance.
  • You learn that Shinto is, in fact, Sekka's father and has come to take her back to Kugane. He tells her that it is past time she gave up on her dream of becoming his apprentice as she lacks the fundamental skills it takes to become a swordsmith. Brithael, however, is of a different opinion, and tells Shinto off for his disparaging and overly critical comments. After exchanging a few more scathing remarks, Shinto walks out, beckoning his daughter to follow him. Forgemaster Brithael─out of a mixture of sympathy and fear that she will remain indefinitely at his guild─turns to Sekka before she leaves and promises to help her think of a way to gain her father's approval and fulfill her greatest desire. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 68.

Objectives

  • Speak with Shinto at the ferry docks.
  • Hand the hunk of rusted iron to Sekka in the Anchor Yard.
  • Synthesize a heavy uchigatana .

  • Forgemaster Brithael appears lost in thought.
  • After turning several ideas over in his mind, Brithael concludes that Shinto is hiding the true reason he believes Sekka will never become a proper swordsmith. Wanting to learn exactly what that reason could be, he would have you go and speak with Shinto on the matter. Make your way to West Hawkers' Alley and speak with Sekka's father.
  • Speaking to Shinto reveals that he believes Sekka is missing something more fundamental than skill. Refusing to say anything more on the matter, he casually dismisses you. Return to the guild and seek out Forgemaster Brithael that you might apprise him of all that you have learned.
  • Forgemaster Brithael is unperturbed by the fact that Shinto saw through your plans and takes his answer as confirmation of what he had suspected: it is not Sekka's skill as a smithy that is holding her back. Speculating that her clunky old tools are preventing her from demonstrating her true skill as a swordsmith, he would have you help him forge her a new set. Asking that you make a custom-made hammer, he then sends you to speak with Randwulf, who will provide you with all the materials you will need.
  • Randwulf generously furnishes you with all the necessary materials for your hammer. Now you are more than ready to set to work. Craft a high-quality hammer and see that it is delivered to Forgemaster Brithael with all due haste. ※In the event you lose the materials or the synthesis ends in failure, you may try again by speaking with Randwulf.
  • You hand your hammer to Forgemaster Brithael, who informs you that he, too, has finished making his portion of her new tools. Impressed by what you made, he hands you his assortment of metal implements, and requests that you deliver everything to a certain stubborn girl in Anchor Yard.
  • Sekka is delighted by the tools you have given her. After a quick thanks, she rushes off, intent on immediately testing them out. Follow her back to the guild and check to see if she is satisfied.
  • As you speak with Sekka, Shinto strides in. He takes one glance at her katana and is immediately displeased. Sekka, however defends her blade, saying that while it may not look like much, forging it reminded her of the joy of smithing. Those words seem to be exactly what Shinto was waiting to hear. He tells her she has learned a valuable lesson as a swordsmith, but if she is to become his apprentice there is one last thing she must prove: her worth. She must face off against you to see who can make the better katana. Declaring the contest will take place in Kugane, Shinto then bids you and Forgemaster Brithael to meet him and his daughter there. ※The next blacksmith quest will be available from Brithael upon reaching level 70.

  • Forgemaster Brithael has dark circles under his eyes.
  • Forgemaster Brithael, while far from enthusiastic about the prospect, tells you he shall be accompanying you to Kugane. He would like to learn what has become of the deal he and Sekka struck to trade forge secrets. Urging that you go on ahead of him, he tells you he will be joining you there. Travel to Kugane and speak with Sekka.
  • Sekka is waiting for you by the port to welcome you to Kugane. After exchanging greetings, she asks that you make your way to Kokajiya, where her father waits to apprise you of the details of your competition.
  • Shinto informs you that one of Kugane's samurai lords is looking to have uchigatana made for his vassals and has inquired as to whether his forge would be willing to produce them. Before putting in an official request, however, the lord would first like to assess the quality of Shinto's blades and has asked to be provided with a sample. The elderly swordsmith tells you that you and Sekka will be competing to see who can forge the better uchigatana, which will then be presented before this honored client. Satisfied you have been apprised of all you need to know, Shinto would have you return to Pier #2 and, alongside his daughter, wait for Forgemaster Brithael to arrive.
  • Sekka is acting unusually coy and states that she has been confused by some of the things she has been feeling of late. She discloses that she cannot stop thinking about Forgemaster Brithael and every time he comes near, her heart begins to race and heat rises to her cheeks. While the both of you have an inkling of what this emotion might be, before you can come to a solid conclusion, your guildmaster arrives. After a quick exchange of greetings, Sekka excuses herself and the ex-pirate turns to you, saying he has brought with him all the supplies necessary for you to craft your uchigatana. Imparting some advice, he urges you to get started. Forge a high-quality examination uchigatana and deliver the finished product to Shinto at Kokajiya. ※In the event you lose the materials or the synthesis ends in failure, you may try again by speaking with Brithael.
  • Shinto is impressed by not only the sharpness of your uchigatana, but also the intricate detailing on the hilt. His face darkens, however, when he turns his attention to the poorly crafted blade that Sekka has produced. When she explains that she made it dull and lightweight that she might cater to the needs of the majority of the lord's vassals who are not trained to use regular katana, her father is somewhat mollified. While it is clear Sekka is by no means the winner, Shinto decides that in attempting to forge something designed to suit the needs of the client, she is ready to become his apprentice. Celebrations are cut short, however, when the conversation takes an unexpected swerve and Sekka confesses her love for Brithael. Shinto is far from pleased by this and, seeing that, the guildmaster mumbles a hasty excuse before scuttling away.
  • After a quick word of congratulations on winning the competition, Shinto tells you he will be sending a letter to your guildmaster regarding their agreement to exchange forging techniques. Bidding you return to Eorzea for fear that Forgemaster Brithael anxiously awaits your return, you part ways with father and daughter. Make your way back to the Blacksmiths' Guild and inform your guildmaster of all that happened in Kugane subsequent to his departure.
  • Forgemaster Brithael tells you of how shortly after he returned, he received a letter from Shinto regarding the agreement he and Sekka made. Despite the not-so-subtle threats sprinkled throughout the letter, the elderly man seemed quite enthusiastic about the idea of trading forge secrets. Randwulf joins you not shortly after, with a letter the size and length of a short novel in hand. Telling Brithael it is addressed to him and is from Sekka, the forgemaster does not look pleased. In fact, he appears to be the slightest shade of green.
