  • Guildmaster Severian appears to be losing the battle against exhaustion.
  • The sleepy-eyed guildmaster has assigned you another task. Create a potion of intelligence and a potion of dexterity and bring them to Severian.
  • You have brought the two potions to the guildmaster, as requested. Severian praises your alchemical brilliance, explaining that the concoctions you have created would be beyond the skills of most novice alchemists. At his further behest, you are to take the potions to the Coliseum and deliver them directly to Ardara, the expectant customer.
  • You have delivered the potions to Ardara. The gladiator fan seems relieved that it was you, and not the guildmaster, who was in charge of concocting her gifts for Franz the Fair. Return to Severian, and inform him that your task is complete.
  • You rouse the guildmaster from his slumber with your report. What all-consuming alchemical goal drives Severian to work himself to the point of exhaustion? Now mindful to not allow yourself to become too absorbed in your studies, you return to your mastering of alchemy. ※The next alchemist quest will be available from Severian upon reaching level 20.

  • Guildmaster Severian wishes to test your growing proficiency with a new task.
  • You have been entrusted with the request of an arcanist, a man of whose name you are likely to remain ignorant should you be forced to rely on Guildmaster Severian's selective memory. Construct the materia-enhanced engraved hard leather grimoire and deliver it to your forgetful tutor. Yew logs, one of the materials required in the creation of the tome, must either be obtained through gathering, or purchased from the market boards of the Sapphire Avenue Exchange. And should you wish for a more patient explanation on materia, Severian suggests that you would be better served traveling to the Bonfire in central Thanalan and visiting the camp of the goblin Mutamix.
  • You have delivered an engraved hard leather grimoire to Severian. Despite being left little choice but to visit the guild in person to collect his order, the arcanist seems overjoyed with the grimoire's quality. Bask in the warm glow of the client's praise as you nevertheless remain focused on upholding your new reputation as a “master alchemist.” ※The next alchemist quest will be available from Severian upon reaching level 25.

  • Guildmaster Severian wishes to once more gauge the progress of your alchemical mastery.
  • Your task from the guildmaster requires you to concoct a harmful agent. Synthesize three high-quality flasks of weak blinding potion and deliver them to your distracted superior.
  • Guildmaster Severian praises the potential for chaos present in the baleful brews you have created. Your task now requires you to deliver the blinding potions to the client─a Miqo'te lass affiliated with one of Ul'dah's less savory groups. You will find her awaiting your arrival somewhere in Pearl Lane.
  • After accepting the flasks, the Miqo'te reveals herself to be a Sultansworn by the name of W'bulea. She had previously infiltrated the gang known as the Velvet Hands after learning of their scheme to rob the palace. Disappointed with Severian's eagerness to accommodate the gang's plans, she asks you to convey a message back to the guildmaster.
  • You deliver W'bulea's message to Severian, but the guildmaster flatly refuses to consider her demand for the return of her sister, W'nahja. • Guildmaster Severian wishes to assign you a “minor” task.
  • Although Severian has now accepted you as his assistant in truth, he feels the research for the ultimate expression of alchemy cannot continue until the constant flow of inconvenient guild tasks has been dammed. Speak with Deitrich, the guild's receptionist, and arrange for the guildmaster's official duties to be channeled elsewhere.
  • You learn from Deitrich that Severian's obsessive research began after the Calamity took the life of his one true love. Considering the growing disapproval surrounding the guildmaster's actions and concerned for the man's well-being, the receptionist is initially reluctant to grant your request. He eventually suggests, however, that providing one of the guild's valued patrons with a fine-quality vial of hi-ether will generate the goodwill necessary to avoid further obligations for a time. Return to Severian and tell him the good news.
  • After relaying Deitrich's suggestion, you find yourself assigned the task of creating an uncommonly potent vial of hi-ether. Deliver the completed concoction to Severian.
  • You have delivered to Severian your remarkably efficacious hi-ether and earned the enthusiastic alchemist's glowing praise. With the threat of interruption to his research removed, the guildmaster states that he is ready to begin the final stage of experiments. Create three extraordinary mega-potions─one of intelligence, one of mind, and one of vitality─and deliver the completed substances to the guildmaster.

  • Guildmaster Severian appears to have isolated the missing element in his work.
  • Severian explains that his previous attempt to resurrect his lost love failed to take into account the necessity for a spiritual anchor. Speak with W'bulea in Pearl Lane, and ask if she might spare the guildmaster an object that W'nahja held dear.
  • W'bulea is unable─or unwilling─to give you any items that her sister might have treasured. Though thoroughly out of patience with Severian's experiments, she suggests visiting W'nahja's admirers to see if they can help you in your quest. Speak with adventurers in the Quicksand and merchants at the Ruby Road Exchange to learn of any objects that could suit the guildmaster's needs.
  • After speaking with W'nahja's admirers, you learn that the conjurer was fond of a certain wand. Recreate her high-quality budding rosewood wand and affix to it a grade three quicktongue materia, before delivering the weapon to Severian at the Alchemists' Guild.
  • With the final component of the process in place, Severian finally succeeds in resurrecting W'nahja. The reunion, however, is short-lived─after dispelling the guildmaster's lingering feelings of guilt, the conjurer fades into the aether. Speak with the guildmaster and learn what he intends to do now.
  • Freed at last from his years-long obsession, the master alchemist urges you to join him in his continuing exploration of the limitless realm of alchemy. ※The next alchemist quest will be available from Severian once you have met the following requirements: ※ You must have registered a product key for FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward to your service account. ※ You must have completed the main scenario quest “Before the Dawn.”

  • There is a devilish glint in Guildmaster Severian's eye.
  • The guildmaster has a task of the utmost importance for you, his favorite assistant─delivering a report of some kind to someone in Revenant's Toll. As Severian has been rather light on details, speak with Deitrich to ascertain the who, what, and why.
  • Deitrich─unsurprised that the guildmaster has foisted the delivery onto you─explains that the intended recipient is one Wiltwaek. A member of the Adventurers' Guild charged with keeping the peace, Wiltwaek is currently investigating a crime in Mor Dhona. Some evidence left behind at the scene demanded Guildmaster Severian's expert eye, and the results of his analysis are what you must take to Revenant's Toll. Make your way there now with the certificate of appraisement.
  • You meet with Wiltwaek and his trusty companion Chanene. They inform you that a string of mysterious disappearances has plagued Revenant's Toll of late. Wiltwaek opens the certificate of appraisement and exclaims that alchemy is involved in these crimes. He further pronounces that you are to be his consultant on the case. Mystified, you listen as he reads aloud a note from Guildmaster Severian, praising you to the high heavens. As your expertise may not be needed at present, Wiltwaek bids you wait for further developments. ※The next alchemist quest will be available from Wiltwaek upon reaching level 53.

  • Wiltwaek's eyes say that something new is afoot.
  • According to Wiltwaek, the thieves have struck again, this time taking a number of Allagan artifacts from Saint Coinach's Find. During his escape, one of the robbers dropped a curious document: a map of Mor Dhona, covered in strange symbols. Wiltwaek thinks these are a code of some kind the gang uses to communicate. Understanding what they mean is crucial to the investigation, and so he bids you present the enciphered map to the realm's foremost expert on ciphers: Baderon, owner of the Drowning Wench in Limsa Lominsa.
  • After casting an eye over the enciphered map, Baderon announces that it is not, in fact, enciphered at all. The symbols have no meaning, but serve to distract from the actual message on the paper. This is likely written in an invisible ink of some sort, the barkeep says. Return with this surprising interpretation to Wiltwaek in Revenant's Toll.
  • Wiltwaek is impressed by Baderon's keen deduction, and asks Chanene to report that they too have learned something about the map. The paper is of no interest, but the symbols are penned in enchanted ink. After asking your expert opinion and learning that enchanted ink is used for arcanima, Chanene attempts to activate the arcane geometry. However, all she does is sense a strange stoppage on the map's face. Wiltwaek realizes this is precisely the point of the map─to direct the criminals to their target. Quick on her feet, Chanene proposes that you three create fake maps to lure the culprits out into the open. Wiltwaek agrees, and asks that you concoct three bottles of high-quality enchanted mythrite ink for the forgeries.
  • Wiltwaek gratefully accepts the enchanted mythrite ink, and says he will set Chanene to work on the maps forthwith. He plans to draw the crooks to Saint Coinach's Find, where they will be easily visible amongst the researchers. Join him there, for you never know when an alchemist will come in handy.
  • You find Wiltwaek and Chanene with a suspect already in custody─a young man who appears to have come from the Near East. However, upon closer inspection, Wiltwaek realizes his silence is not stubbornness, but rather forced. He suspects some foul potion or another is at play, and wonders aloud if the Near Eastern youth is a victim and not a criminal. As Chanene turns to leave, she suddenly notices a strange man watching you from the shadows. Wiltwaek calls to him, but the fellow simply wanders away. Perplexed, Wiltwaek says that the criminals are toying with dangerous powers, and asks that you lend your aid again when the need arises. ※The next alchemist quest will be available from Wiltwaek upon reaching level 55.

Objectives

  • Deliver the enciphered map to Baderon in Limsa Lominsa.
  • Return the enciphered map to Wiltwaek.
  • Synthesize enchanted mythrite ink .

  • Wiltwaek has an update about the case.
  • Wiltwaek informs you of two things. Firstly, the Near Eastern youth you captured shows no signs of recovering, and no one has any idea who he is. Secondly, one of the recently stolen Allagan artifacts has turned up at Rowena's House of Splendors. Chanene has gone ahead to investigate, and Wiltwaek bids you join her there.
  • Rowena is willing to aid in your investigation─for the price of high-quality grade 1 intelligence dissolvent. Concoct three bottles to loosen the merchant's tongue.
  • Happy with your exchange, Rowena hands you an Allagan crozier, and gives her description of its seller. Chanene believes this is a thief of local infamy, but cannot help but wonder whether such a burglar would have any knowledge of alchemy. Before she can go on, a suspicious man appears to inquire into the crozier. After he leaves, an excited Chanene tells you she means to tail him, and asks that you relay the same to Wiltwaek.
  • You hurry to Wiltwaek, and tell him where Chanene has gone. However, he receives word from her directly that the suspect gave her the slip. Wiltwaek decides it is better to ascertain why this odd fellow wanted to purchase the crozier than pursue him blindly. Make your way to the Alchemists' Guild in Ul'dah, and ask Guildmaster Severian why an alchemist would want an Allagan crozier.
  • Guildmaster Severian's usual impatience melts away once he sees what you have brought. He tells you of a legend in which Allag could grow men from nothing, and that the key component of this process was the crystal that lies at the heart of the crozier. Though he himself thinks this nonsense, he understands why certain alchemists would covet this power. Return to Wiltwaek, and tell him what you have discovered.
  • You return to find both Wiltwaek and Chanene subdued. The reason, you soon learn, is that they have found your suspects' lair─a dark cave used to perform terrible experiments upon living people. Thanks to your description of the crozier, Wiltwaek creates a profile of a criminal mastermind, a mad alchemist ironically willing to murder in pursuit of the power to create life. Worried, Chanene asks that you continue to lend your aid, lest more innocent townsfolk die. ※The next alchemist quest will be available from Wiltwaek upon reaching level 58.

Objectives

  • Rendezvous with Chanene in Rowena's House of Splendors.
  • Synthesize bottles of grade 1 intelligence dissolvent .
  • Report to Wiltwaek.

  • Wiltwaek seems to be awaiting word from Chanene. In order to complete this quest, you must have learned the advanced recipes contained within Master Alchemist III.
  • Chanene has apparently found one of the missing people on the road south from Camp Revenant's Toll. Make your way there now.
  • You arrive to find a strange scene before you─one that Chanene's explanation does little to clarify. A single Lalafellin fellow was driving a carriage, and in the back were two barrels─of which the suspect claims no prior knowledge. Within these were two identical Hyuran men, one alive and one dead. The living one is silent, presumably in the same state as the Near Eastern youth you found earlier. Chanene is at wit's end but for a single lead: a cracked leather journal found on the dead man. In it, he speaks of a sister working in Tailfeather. Venture there now, and find out if the corpse had a twin.
  • The dead man's sister informs you somewhat coldly that her brother─a brute by all report─had neither a twin nor identical friends. Return to Wiltwaek in Revenant's Toll with this puzzling piece of information.
  • In your absence, Wiltwaek has found a witness who testifies that he saw the Lalafellin suspect lift both barrels─bodies and all─into the back of the carriage. The culprit himself, however, denies this, saying he could not possibly perform such feats of strength. Neither Wiltwaek nor Chanene believe him innocent, and so ask that you brew a high-quality draconian potion of strength. Do so, that Chanene may drink it and test if a Lalafell aided by alchemy can lift so great a weight. In order to complete this quest, you must have learned the advanced recipes contained within Master Alchemist III.
  • Chanene tosses down the potion and proceeds to carry the heavy barrels up the steps with ease. With his alibi disproved, the suspect tells you everything─how an aging alchemist hired him to move the bodies, and how the twin is in fact a “clone,” a living, breathing copy of the original. This mastermind has been stealing people from their beds to practice this process, apparently born of ancient Allag's ingenuity. The culprit also tells you that this man has no problem whatsoever with killing, and begs Wiltwaek for protection. With these new facts at your feet, Wiltwaek states with furrowed brow that you must capture this mastermind soon, or there will be further bloodshed. ※The next alchemist quest will be available from Wiltwaek upon reaching level 60.

Objectives

  • Speak with Chanene near Camp Revenant's Toll.
  • Show the cracked leather log to the victim's estranged sister at Tailfeather.
  • Return the cracked leather log to Wiltwaek.

  • Wiltwaek has a look of victory to him. In order to complete this quest, you must have learned the advanced recipes contained within Master Alchemist III.
  • It seems your suspect has provided the name of the mastermind: Waoud, an alchemist from the Near East. Chanene has gone to ascertain more about these so-called clones from the Sons of Saint Coinach. Venture to their headquarters at Saint Coinach's Find to find out what she has learned.
  • Chanene has learned much about the clones from Rammbroes. They are empty vessels, without souls, and from this Chanene hypothesizes that Waoud means to transfer his own spirit into younger copies of himself, and gain eternal life in the process. She breathlessly tells you that Waoud has established a new base to the southeast of Revenant's Toll. Meet her there to capture this criminal mastermind.
  • You capture Waoud without a struggle. Wiltwaek finds this perplexing, and asks you await him at your usual spot in Revenant's Toll so he may question the suspect.
  • You find Wiltwaek frustrated. It seems that Waoud is now denying that he is Waoud, and that he is an alchemist. Given that the evidence against him is circumstantial, Wiltwaek bids you take the one thing found on your suspect─a copy of Noble Gold─to Guildmaster Severian, and ask him for proof that Waoud is your master criminal.
  • Severian gives you two important pieces of information. Firstly, only the very best of alchemists can create a copy of Noble Gold. Secondly, each alchemist's aether has a unique color to it, which is transferred to any grimoires created through the enchanted ink inscribed within. While normally invisible to the naked eye, the guildmaster has invented a powder to render it visible─spectrolium. With this, you can prove that Waoud created the copy of Noble Gold, and that he is a master alchemist. Return now to Wiltwaek with the good news.
  • You hand the spectrolium to a grateful Wiltwaek and explain its purpose. Now, your friend informs you, all that is left to do is to create another high-quality copy of Noble Gold to prove that Severian's concoction is sound. Craft one now to use at Waoud's trial. In order to complete this quest, you must have learned the advanced recipes contained within Master Alchemist III.
  • You watch as Wiltwaek painstakingly crafts his argument from each and every piece of evidence you obtained. With Chanene's help, he also effectively demonstrates that Waoud is indeed a master alchemist, and therefore the architect of these foul murders. However, even when accused point blank, Waoud is strangely silent. You look across the floor, and see the Near Eastern youth─whose eyes suddenly stare back at you. The clone makes a bolt for the door, and Chanene realizes that Waoud must have already transferred his soul into this once-empty vessel. Though Wiltwaek is slow on the uptake, he nevertheless charges and subdues the new Waoud. Speak with him now to wrap up this case once and for all.
  • Wiltwaek and Chanene both thank you for your aid as a consulting alchemist, and hope that you will have happier reason to work together in the future. ※The next alchemist quest will be available from Severian once you have met the following requirements: ※ You must have registered a product key for FINAL FANTASY XIV: Stormblood to your service account. ※ You must have completed the main scenario quest “The Far Edge of Fate.”

  • Severian of the Alchemists' Guild wishes to have a word with you.
  • The results of Severian's investigation indicate the corpse of the young lady bears the marks of an attempted resurrection of the dead. Visit Yayaroku of the Thaumaturges' Guild and inquire after rumors about a thaumaturge excommunicated for necromancy.
  • Yayaroku no longer recalls the name of the excommunicated thaumaturge. Consult Severian at the Alchemists' Guild once more, and concoct a tincture of sweetened wisdom to refresh his memory.
  • Severian informs you that adding an electuary such as birch syrup to an intellectuary will render it agreeable to the sweetest of palates.
