  • Caribault is taking stock of the pumpkin patch, but with an odd sense of dejection.
  • You speak with Caribault, asking what work there is to be done about Camp Cloudtop. He tells you all about the trouble being caused by wild gastornis, which have destroyed the camp's crops on a number of occasions. in the hopes of thinning their numbers, he asks that you slay three of the feathered fiends in his stead. and not wanting to waste the opportunity, he also asks you to retrieve the meat from the gastornis you fell.
  • You have dispatched the gastornis and obtained three chunks of their meat. Report back to Caribault with your bounty.
  • Caribault is relieved to hear of your success in culling the gastornis population. the gastornis meat, he tells you, will be a much-needed reprieve from the dreary salt-cured meats the men about camp are accustomed to. the merits of your work are twofold: a safer harvest and more appetizing provisions for the men of Camp Cloudtop.

  • Though the Rose Knight cook seems exhausted, the fire in her eyes tells of work to be done.
  • The Rose Knight cook has prepared packed meals for the men and women of Camp Cloudtop. in her old age, however, their delivery proves more difficult than she would care to admit. Determined to see her hard work is not wasted, she asks you to distribute three sets of packed meals in her stead. Pick up the packed meals and prepare to make your delivery.
  • You pick up the three sets of packed meals. See them safely to the knights of Camp Cloudtop.
  • You have delivered all of the packed meals, garnering you many thanks for temporarily relieving the resident cook of her duties. Head back and speak with the Rose Knight cook.
  • Though she lacks the vigor to jump for joy, her look of gratitude is unmistakable as she conveys the pleasure she takes in preparing their meals. Though the thinner air of the Sea of Clouds is harsh in her old age, she assures you a meal cooked by their hands is equally unkind, vowing to continue to work so long as she is able.

  • Gildon seeks an adventurer of exceptional renown.
  • Gildon is beside himself with disappointment at the state of affairs at Camp Cloudtop. as he tells it, the men and women stationed there are those found to be of little or no use elsewhere. This subtle form of demotion has left them disheartened, carrying out their duties with an empty sense of obligation. but Gildon is determined to reignite the fire in their bellies with proper nourishment. to achieve this goal, however, he must convince the quartermaster Fabrellet to make reforms to the shipment and distribution of provisions. Gildon believes Fabrellet will not listen to him, but may lend his ear to a reputable adventurer. Speak with Fabrellet, and see if he might relent on the issue.
  • You propose the idea of improving the camp's provisions, but behind your words, Fabrellet can only hear the rumblings of Gildon's stomach. Those discontent with what they are given are free to forage for themselves, and Fabrellet believes he should do just that. to ease Gildon into taking this initiative, or at the very least quell his rumbling belly, Fabrellet asks you to procure a particular variety of mushroom known to be both nutritious and filling.
  • You have found a cloud mushroom. Deliver it to Gildon that he may focus less on his hunger and more on his duties.
  • You deliver the cloud mushroom to Gildon, and his interest in your delectable offering nearly distracts him from the matter at hand─your talks with Fabrellet. Gildon is taken aback by Fabrellet's insinuation that he only means to satisfy a selfish desire for heartier meals. Though his plan bore no fruit, Gildon has not been deterred from his goal, and is determined to find a new way to reinvigorate the camp.

Objectives

  • Speak with Fabrellet.
  • Obtain a cloud mushroom.
  • Deliver the cloud mushroom to Gildon.

  • Gildon requires aid that he may embolden his comrades.
  • Gildon continues his quest to revitalize the spirit of Camp Cloudtop. to achieve this goal, he means to slay a dragon together with his men. This plan will fall through, however, if no dragons can be found in the area. Still waiting to be relieved from sentry duty, he asks that you gather information from the guards about Camp Cloudtop. Speak with the guards, then venture off in search of his prey.
  • You speak with the men standing guard about Camp Cloudtop. While none have seen leathery hide nor tail of dragons, one guard suspects they are being watched as they continue repairs of the Protector. Search the area for what may be monitoring the camp and prepare yourself for the worst.
  • While hunting for dragons, you find a Vanu atop a cliff with a clear view of Camp Cloudtop. the Vanu engages you, but is no match for your long-proven skill in combat. Report back to Gildon and tell him of your findings.
  • You tell Gildon of the Vanu, but he is disappointed rather than surprised. Uninterested in the threat of Vanu, he continues his search for a way to motivate his men.

Only a perfectly preserved sample will suffice, and she doubts that she or her men could fell them while leaving their leathery appendages intact. No matter how many gaelicats it takes, she implores you to retrieve one of their wings.
  • You have slain several gaelicats to no avail. but as Laniaitte said, you must not grow disheartened. Continue slaying gaelicats in search of a suitable sample.

  • Gildon seeks help to learn more of the Vanu's plans.
  • Gildon informs you that, according to reports from the other men, your tussle with the Vanu atop the cliff northeast of camp was not a one-off encounter. in fact, they believe the Vanu are conducting routine surveillance of the area. the only question that remains is to what end, and Gildon requests your assistance in finding the answer. Travel northeast to where you were assaulted by the Vanu and search for clues to what they are planning.
  • Returning to where you last encountered the Vanu scout, another has taken its place, peering out into the distance toward Camp Cloudtop. You make short work of the beastman spy, and find a strange bone in his possession.
  • You pick up the bone and decide it may be a clue. Return to Camp Cloudtop to have Gildon examine it.
  • You return to Camp Cloudtop and hand over the gnawed bone to Gildon. Inspecting it more closely reveals a strange pattern scratched into its surface. with this newest clue, the search for the truth has sparked a fire in Gildon. Perhaps this will lead to rekindling the spirits of his fellow cavalrymen.

Knowing that they planned to begin searching around Vundu Ok' Bendu, Laniaitte asks that you head there and look for signs of the Rose Knights.
  • You arrive at Vundu Ok' Bendu and find a wounded soldier. He tells you the lieutenant crossed a nearby bridge heading further into Vanu territory.

  • Gildon is at a complete loss.
  • Unable to make neither heads nor tails of the bone, Gildon asks you to show it to others in the hopes that they might offer some insight into its meaning. Present the bone to the knights of Camp Cloudtop and see what they have to say.
  • Alas, none of the Rose Knights know what to make of the bone's markings─or, in the case of Fabrellet, are inclined to care. On the bright side, the quartermaster mentions that a shipment of provisions is scheduled to arrive soon. Perhaps this news will serve to lift Gildon's spirits.
  • Upon hearing of the shipment, Gildon has an epiphany: the Vanu were using the bone to count the days between shipments, which always include a substantial quantity of crystals. Believing that the beastmen intend to launch an attack, he goes to warn Lady Laniaitte, and bids you warn Fabrellet in his stead.
  • Fabrellet is unwilling to lend credence to Gildon's fears, and suggests that you make for the Protector if you are so concerned for the shipment's welfare.
  • You board the Protector and find a Vanu preparing to flee with his prize. However, you make quick work of him and his allies. Examine the shipment to see that everything is accounted for.
  • So far as you can tell, the Vanu were unable to steal any of the provisions. Return to Fabrellet and inform him that there was indeed a Vanu raid, and that you have foiled it.
  • Fabrellet and Lady Laniaitte are pleased to learn that, thanks to you, the shipment is secure. At your insistence, the commander recognizes Gildon for his part in uncovering the Vanu's plans, offering him the opportunity to serve elsewhere, should it be his desire. Gildon declines, however, stating that his sole desire is to rekindle the spirits of his fellow knights. to that end, he proposes that he and the others partake of the provisions in celebration. Though Fabrellet scoffs at the idea, Lady Laniaitte agrees, and bids the quartermaster make it known whom the Rose Knights have to thank for their boon.

Objectives

  • Show the gnawed bone to knights around the camp.
  • Return the gnawed bone to Gildon.

  • Gunu Vanu is running out of ideas to borrow for his rite of passage.
  • Gunu Vanu has only one more family member to copy for his rite of passage─his brother, whose offering was to display his skill at riding the traditional Vanu mount, a sanuwa. Gunu Vanu, as always, has a shortcut in mind for this trial. Meet him at the Blue Window to hear his plans.
  • Gunu Vanu presents you with some leather reins that he claims will make any tame sanuwa obey your every order. He points out one such sanuwa positioned conveniently nearby. It may not be the ideal choice of prey however, since its owner stands nearby and will likely not give up the steed without a fight. Nonetheless, since no alternative target presents itself, use the leather reins on the battle-trained sanuwa and hope for the best.
  • After using the reins on the sanuwa, its current owner rightly attacks you, leaving you with no choice but to defend yourself. Retrieve the borrowed sanuwa.
  • You have retrieved the sanuwa. Return to Gunu Vanu and tell him of the noble deed you have performed.
  • Gunu Vanu once again shows his courage by answering the sudden and conveniently timed summons of the elder shaman. Although you did not hear the call, Gunu Vanu is already yalms ahead of you. Catch up with him to see what he has planned.
  • The elder rejects Gunu Vanu's suggestion that teaching you the art of sanuwa catching is a proper offering. of course, Gunu Vanu cannot be blamed for not knowing the intricacies of his own culture, and the elder offers to give him one last chance.

  • Gunu Vanu is all out of ideas─and second chances.
  • Try as he might, Gunu Vanu can come up with no ideas for his final chance at the rite of passage. as he is wont to do, Gunu Vanu decides to turn to his family for help. Talk to Guna Vanu and listen to any suggestions he has.
  • Guna Vanu remarks that the only thing his brother has proven to be skilled at is sneaking and stealing, and suggests that Gunu Vanu creeps into the Garlean─or “Garloon”─outpost to steal one of the many shiny objects that lie strewn about. Gunu Vanu musters up as much courage as he can and heads in the direction of the outpost. Follow him and give what aid he requires.
  • Recalling the time you distracted the elder shaman with your dancing, Gunu Vanu asks you to throw the Garlean ranks into chaos to aid him in his sneaking. Slay three imperial soldiers to create a diversion.
  • The troops are staggering from your sudden and brutal assault. Report to Gunu Vanu, who is cowering in the distance.
  • Gunu Vanu sees no clear path to the imperial supplies, and asks you thin the ranks of the soldiers even further. Slay three more imperial troops.
  • The encampment has been thrown into confusion after your relentless attacks. Report to Gunu Vanu and see if he has managed to steal anything.
  • Although you did exactly what Gunu Vanu asked, he was still unable to sneak into the camp and steal anything. He has asked you to slay even more imperial troops. Before long there will be none left in the whole camp.
  • You have provided the distraction that Gunu Vanu asked for─again─but are not sure if he was fast enough to sneak into the camp undetected. Speak with him and see if your slaughter provided a satisfactory distraction.
  • Gunu Vanu has managed to steal an object from the Garleans, but it is unclear exactly what it is yet. Whether or not it has any value is up to the judgment of the elder shaman. Speak to Aanu Vanu in Ok' Zundu.
  • Gunu Vanu presents his shiny metal object to Aanu Vanu, and you see that it is a massive metal claw from the Garlean encampment. Aanu Vanu says it must be a fallen feather from a massive skyborne beast from Zundu legend, and judges that Gunu Vanu's rite of passage is complete. He bestows upon him the title of “Gunu Vanu, Bringer of Shade” for offering such an important piece of Zundu lore. Gunu Vanu wells with pride at his new title, but is eager to rest after his long and tiring journey, and leaves to find shade. Aanu Vanu asks you to find Guna Vanu and tell him of his brother's success.
  • Guna Vanu is overjoyed that his brother has succeeded in the trial, relieved that his brother has finally grown up in the eyes of the tribe. Guna Vanu hopes that with time, his brother's actions will come to resemble that of a functional member of Ok' Zundu society.
