Final Fantasy XIV Mobile, titled Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World (最终幻想14：水晶世界, Zuìzhōng Huànxiǎng Shísì: Shuǐjīng Shìjiè) in Chinese, is an adaptation of Final Fantasy XIV for mobile phones currently in development at Tencent's Lightspeed Studios. Its development is supervised by Square Enix's Creative Studio III. The game aims to retell the story of Final Fantasy XIV starting from A Realm Reborn. The game is set to launch in China and subsequently worldwide.
Gameplay[]
The game is set to feature the jobs and races launched with the A Realm Reborn launch of Final Fantasy XIV 2.0. Players control their character with a digital "stick" allocated to a corner of the screen, with their Actions situated in buttons on the opposite side, surrounding a unique button for each job.
Development[]
Sometime around 2019, the team that would work on Final Fantasy XIV Mobile prepared a 100-page proposal and met with Final Fantasy XIV producer-director Naoki Yoshida with the hopes that they would be allowed to work on the Final Fantasy XIV IP in a mobile adaptation. Despite Yoshida's initial doubts about being able to adapt the MMO to mobile, he agreed to work with the team due to their passion.[1]
In August 2024, the National Press and Publication Administration of China approved the import game by Tencent, titled Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World, which had previously been reported to have been in development in July, with Lightspeed Studios working on the title.[2]
In November 2024, Square Enix announced the game, titled Final Fantasy XIV Mobile for international release, including a message from Naoki Yoshida and early footage. The game aimed at a mainland Chinese release, before a broader worldwide one.[3]
