FFX-2 Status Effects

Characters and their enemy, affected by several buffs and debuffs.

The following is a list of all status effects in Final Fantasy X-2. Many of the same statuses from Final Fantasy X return, and behave much the same way, but many new ones are introduced. Rather than being able to customize equipment to inflict or resist statuses like in Final Fantasy X, the party's dresspheres and accessories serve this purpose instead.

List of positive statuses[]

ACCU Up[]

ACCU Up raises Accuracy by 1/12. Its effects stack up to 10 times.

Auto-Life[]

Auto-Life automatically revives the affected character when afflicted with KO with 25% of max HP. Auto-Life is granted via the spell of the same name, available to be used once the player goes through all colored gates on the Salvation Promised Garment Grid or the green node on Supreme Light. Auto-Life is also available from the Lady Luck's Magic Reels, in which rolling three Staves will cast Auto-Life on a random ally.

DEF Up[]

DEF Up is a buff that raises Defense by 1/12. It effects stack up to 10 times.

EVA Up[]

EVA Up raises Evasion by 1/12. Its effects stack up to 10 times.

Haste[]

Haste speeds up animations and the rate at which the ATB gauge charges by ~5%, summarily shortening the time for a complete turn by increasing the speed at which actions are executed. Haste is opposed to Slow.

Invincible[]

Invincible nullifies all damage, but not status effects. It is gained by using the Hero Drink item, stolen from Shuyin, or as a rare drop from Node. The status may also be obtained through the ability Excellence, found in the Psychic dressphere in the International and the HD Remaster versions, which requires 120 AP to master and Physics Guard to be mastered beforehand.

LUCK Up[]

LUCK Up raises Luck by 1/12. Its effects stack up to 10 times.

MAG Up[]

MAG Up status raises Magic by 1/12. Its effects stack up to 10 times.

MDEF Up[]

MDEF Up raises Magic Defense by 1/12. Its effects stack up to 10 times.

Null Magic[]

Null Magic nullifies magic damage.

Magical Masque makes the party immune to magical damage. It is learned on the Songstress dressphere for 20 AP, but the key item Magical Dances Vol II is needed to learn it. It is the reward for defeating the Experiment in Chapter 5 when all its stats are at level 5.

Yuna's special dressphere, Floral Fallal, has access to Barrier, which nullifies magic damage done to the user. The Psychic dressphere has the ability Magic Guard, which nullifies all magical damage done. It takes 80 AP to learn and Gravity Eater must be mastered first.

Null Physical[]

Null Physical nullifies all physical damage.

Yuna's special dressphere, Floral Fallal, can learn Shield which makes the user immune to physical damage. The Psychic dressphere has the ability Physics Guard that nullifies all physical damage done. It takes 80 AP to learn and Magic Guard must be mastered first.

Null Physical is also an auto effect for the enemies Aeshma and Protean Gel. It enables them to be permanently immune to physical attacks. The party must use magic to defeat them.

Reflect[]

Reflect bounces compatible magic to the opposing party. Most spells from the Black Mage and White Mage dresspheres can be group-cast on either the enemy or player party, at the cost of reduced potency. If the player group-casts a spell on a reflected party, the spell will bounce onto the enemy party three times, allowing the player to chain the spells.

Regen[]

Regen restores 3% of the target's HP each turn. The player has various ways to bestow it to their party, such as with White Magic and Yuna's unique dresspheres. The player can also get Auto-Regen to permanently have the status or SOS Regen to initiate it when low on health.

Protect[]

Protect temporarily halves physical damage. White Mage who has already learned Shell can learn Protect, or anyone who has the Helios Guard Garment Grid equipped can also cast it. SOS Protect, meanwhile, is used automatically when a player's character gets low on HP.

Shell[]

Shell temporarily halves magic damage and healing to the affected, unless the status is permanently in place via Auto-Shell. Many dresspheres have the means of bestowing it, such as White Mage, Gun Mage, Samurai, and Yuna's unique dresspheres. SOS Shell bestows the status automatically to those in critical health, and the Lunar Curtain item bestows it to the party.

Spellspring[]

FFX-2 Spellspring

Spellspring status

Spellspring negates the cost of magic and abilities.

Spellspring is gained from the Twin Stars and Three Stars items. The accessory Ragnarok grants Spellspring, and can be obtained by blaming Rikku for the Mi'ihen Highroad Mystery in Chapters 4/5. Spellspring can also be cast by MP Mambo, a dance for the Songstress. Interestingly, Spellspring also negates the HP cost of the Dark Knight's Darkness.

MP Mambo requires the key item Magical Dances, Vol I, which is given to the player after they defeat all the bosses in the Den of Woe in Chapter 5. The effect is also gained with the Lady Luck dressphere with the mastered ability SOS Spellspring whenever the character falls in critical health.

STR Up[]

STR Up raises Strength by 1/12. Its effects stack up to 10 times.

List of negative statuses[]

ACCU Down[]

ACCU Down decreases Accuracy by 1/12. Its effects stack up to 10 times.

Action-cancel[]

Action-cancel causes the current pending action of the character to be canceled. Enemies can be immune to this.

Berserk[]

Dresspheres that normally cannot attack (Songstress, White Mage, Black Mage) can do so while under the Berserk status. Any commands that are queued before being afflicted with Berserk will still go off. Berserked party members also receive a 25% boost from recovery items as well as 25% boost to their damage output. The player has various ways of inflicting Berserk, such Thief's Flimflam, Warrior's Assault, Trainers' skills and special dresspheres' skills. In the International and HD Remaster versions, the Cat Nip accessory gives the wearer Auto-Berserk and Auto-Slow.

Despite being an "ailment", Berserk can be used offensively and strategically.

Confusion[]

Confused characters appear with two spinning stars above their head and will use random actions on random targets, enemies and allies alike. The player can inflict the status onto enemies with abilities from Dark Knight's Arcana, Lady Luck's Tantalize, and the girls' special dresspheres' abilities. Confusion wears off on its own even if not healed, but any physical damage will sober the afflicted up. Confuse can be used to learn some Blue Bullet skills from enemies.

Critical[]

FFX-2 Bio

Paine and Yuna Critical status.

Characters fall into the Critical status when their HP falls below a third. They will appear tired and hunched over. Aeon enemies also use their Critical stances in the same condition. If the player finishes a battle in critical health, the party's comments reflect that.

There are numerous SOS auto-abilities that activate when users with the abilities are in Critical. The Cat Nip accessory uses the unique "SOS ????" auto-ability, which allows characters in Critical status to inflict 9,999 damage for every attack, regardless of Attack power or enemy Defense. This can be well-utilized with the Trigger Happy and Black Sky commands in the original version, but does not work in the International and HD Remaster versions, where Cat Nip adds Auto-Berserk and Auto-Slow.

Curse[]

Curse prohibits afflicted party members from changing their dresspheres. Captured creatures cannot be affected by Curse as they are controlled by the game's AI.

Darkness[]

Darkness status makes the afflicted's physical attacks more likely to miss. It does not wear off on its own. The player can inflict it onto enemies via the Dark Knight's Arcana, the Bad Breath Blue Bullet for the Gun Mage, a Dance the Songstress can learn, Yuna's and Rikku's pets in Trainer dressphere and the girls' special dresspheres' skills, as well as the Festivalist.

Doom[]

The Doom spell is available for Dark Knight dressphere. Both the spell Doom and the enemy abilities Harbinger (used by Lucil), and Tick Tick Boom! (used by Volcano), can inflict the status. When inflicted on the party, the counter will start at 3, inflicting instant KO when it expires.

Delay[]

Delay increases the ATB bar of the character's current pending action. Its effect is cumulative.

Game Element Type Effect
Delay Attack Swordplay Damages the target and inflicts Delay.
Delay Buster Swordplay Damages the target and inflicts strong Delay.
Mach Fan Enemy Ability Damages all targets and inflicts Delay.

DEF Down[]

Defense Down, also known as DEF Down, lowers the afflicted's Defense by 1/12, which can stack up to 10 times. Different abilities apply varying stack levels.

Armor Break and Quartet Knife apply 2 stacks, while Armor Eraser applies 3. Fingersnap nullifies Defense Down from a target.

Eject[]

Eject forcefully removes the target from battle. It is different from KO in that the character cannot return to the current combat with Life, Auto-Life or Phoenix Down, but also does not need revival after the combat either. Eject can count as an escape, as when Angra Mainyu does it to the party. It is inflicted by the enemy abilities Russian Roulette, Shooting Star, Thrust Kick, and Unnatural Selection.

The Berserker learns Eject (かっとばす, Kattobasu?) as an ability. It can also be used via Lady Luck's Attack Reels by rolling two Paws. Kogoro Strike, an ability exclusive to Yuna in Trainer, and Carrier Flurry, an ability exclusive to Paine while in Trainer, can also attempt to eject an enemy from the battle, as can PuPu Platter, a technique exclusive to Rikku as Mascot.

Logos's Russian Roulette has a chance of ejecting a player character. The Psychic from the International version and HD Remaster can eject enemies through the use of Telekinesis, which requires 30 AP to master, requires Maser Eye to be mastered and costs 12 MP to use.

Captured creatures can use Eject if equipped with the Flash of Steel Garment Grid. Consuming a Black Belt on a creature will also teach them Eject. Lacerta can naturally learn Eject after surviving a powerful attack in battle.

EVA Down[]

EVA Down status decreases Evasion by 1/12. Its effects stack up to 10 times. It is opposed to EVA Up.

Itchy[]

When afflicted with Itchy, the character can only perform a spherechange and switch to a different dressphere or flee. Once the change has been made, the effect is canceled. Itchy can also be removed by using a Holy Water on the character.

Death[]

It is the basic "defeat" status, which counts toward Game Over if all of the player's active party members are defeated. A unit in battle falls to Death status when their HP is reduced to 0, either by losing too much HP, or by being inflicted by an instant death ability. Battle units can protect against the latter; for the player, this means that there are auto-abilities and equipment that protect against instant death abilities.

LUCK Down[]

LUCK Down decreases Luck by 1/12. Its effects stack up to 10 times. It is opposite of LUCK Up. There is no visual changes to the battle model when affected. Luck affects the chance of critical hits, avoiding attacks, and landing attacks. However, there is only one ability in the game that imbues this status: the enemy's Heaven's Cataract (the player version does not lower Luck; the exception is when used by captured Basilisks, which lowers all attributes by 1.).

MDEF Down[]

Petrification[]

Petrification turns the target to stone. The character will shatter if physically attacked and is removed from the fight. It does not wear off after battle. Petrification is a lose condition, i.e. if all of the party members are petrified, the player will get a Game Over.
