Does that mean that there'll be more language voice acting diversity aside of the usual Japanese and English VA? It's written a bit ambiguous if you ask me.

== Cloud to Appear in SSB4 ==

  +
As of yesterday, it has been announced that Cloud and Midgar are set to appear in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS as a playable character and stage respectively. Cloud's special moves appear to be based on his limit breaks (Omnislash is his Final Smash, say that ten times), and he has an alternate costume based on his Advent Children attire. As for the stage Midgar, it plays just like Battlefield except that, how I see it, the stage features summons acting as stage hazards, so don't think Cloud can manually slice any stage in half with Zantetsuken. Also, there is going to be a Mii Fighter hat based on the Chocobo. Here's a link to the reveal, or at least the GameXplain upload from the Nintendo Direct. The game is related to Toki no Suisho or a new relaunch since the game's story finished last year and is practically dead at this point, with it shifting to a new team iirc and just doing events to stay alive now. {{user:Technobliterator/TalkS|17:28, June 29, 2019 (UTC)|I propose we delete the Shinra News page.
  +
  +
This page does not really provide any value or serve any purpose on our wiki. For news sites, Final Fantasy fans have far better places to go than a video game wiki. [[Special:Insights/popularpages]] doesn't show Shinra News anywhere near the top, so I highly doubt many people are even benefiting from it. The current page is also too editorialized to belong on a wiki. I would say it is better to just cut our losses and delete this page.
  +
  +
When brought up on Discord, most people favored ending the Shinra News but preferred to archive. I strongly disagree, as this page does not seem to have anything worthwhile archiving (there are plenty of news journalism sites out there to find what people thought of the news when it came out), and it looks extremely unprofessional right now. I would rather delete.}}
  +
{{BlueHighwind|time=17:35, June 29, 2019 (UTC)|text=I second the ending of this sub-project since the twitter feed would be more appropriate for our needs of sharing Final Fantasy news and possibly would be better seen. (Could we just embed it?) Sadly it is redundant in 2019. All we need is what the news is and a link to the press piece we got it from.
  +
  +
We're not actually doing any real journalism here, it's just restating what news outlets say, and odds are they're just restating SE press releases.
  +
  +
As for editorializing, whatever. Gaming news sites aren't 100% professional either.}}

{{user:Technobliterator/TalkS|17:54, June 29, 2019 (UTC)|We embed the Twitter feed on the right rail of the main page right now. If we were to archive this page rather than delete, we could embed it here too, as Twitter has basically replaced Shinra News.
  +
  +
On the main page, we should definitely lengthen the current Twitter area though to be more visible since it'll replace the Shinra News. I'm not opposed to also just keeping the news box but making it smaller, and not link to a page (except maybe the game page if it's an announced game or etc.).}}

I am reluctantly in agreement with deleting it, if only because it can be very hard to keep up when so very few actually watch the space. So, I was going to post news, but I'm not entirely sure about the correct process to wipe out the page and start a new year, so I'd rather not really do anything. Can someone do that, please? DiamondEdge (talk) 11:02, January 7, 2013 (UTC)

I've been hoping this was the case. interestingly, if the article is accurate, it says this change has been around since last July, which was when the game cancelling rumor came about. if it was indeed decided around then that the game changed its title, then there might have been some validity in "vs13" being no more lol.. anyway in the website they do say in brackets that its the expected title.. not an official one.--Arciel Spira (talk) 03:43, March 16, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, dumb. They darn changed it to Versus XIII now. JBed (talk) 19:46, March 17, 2013 (UTC)

Facebook Icon[]

Can I suggest making a square icon for the Shinra News for Facebook? The wide rectangle logo doesn't look appealing when squished. If no one is up to it, I could do it: just tell me the font name for "Final Fantasy Wiki" and "- Shinra News -".—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 19:15, June 17, 2014 (UTC)

Name[]

So I was working on FFVII related things when I just noticed the text "Shinra Times".

"Shinra Times" is a newspaper in FFVII. Mentioned once in the game when talking about headlines about the bombing. I just thought I'd mention it because I remember past discussions about how "Shinra News" isn't a newspaper and is bland. Not that I agreed we should name it after a newspaper. "Bonga Bugle" and "Timber Maniacs" were my preferred choices.

;3 JBed (talk) 16:37, August 15, 2014 (UTC)

I like the sound of Timber Maniacs. Shinra News always sounded dull. C A T U S E 03:55, August 16, 2014 (UTC)
I like Timber Maniacs too. Monterossa (talk) 05:05, August 16, 2014 (UTC)
Nothing is wrong with Shinra News. It is in universe and explains itself simply and easily, and is probably the project page that requires a name doing so the most since it'll be frequented by non regulars more. Besides, screw FFVIII, Shinra are tons cooler than Timber Maniacs.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 05:38, August 16, 2014 (UTC)
When I first joined the wiki I thought Shinra News was an intentionally ironic name because the Shinra News in the world of FFVII is propaganda that distorts the truth.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 13:40, August 16, 2014 (UTC)
Bump. Really, there was never proper consensus on this name in the first place, everyone just stopped arguing when BH did the move anyway. I'm personally not a big fan of Shinra News in the first place, it's just a very... uninteresting name. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 23:39, January 8, 2015 (UTC)
I oppose changing the name because somebody is going to demand that the name get changed in another two years and it will never stop. Wait until FFXV comes out with a newspaper and then suddenly, we have to change the name again. Why not change the DNC's name to whatever XIII's arena was? Shinra Times at least tells somebody who hasn't played FFVIII what this page is about. As opposed to Timber Maniacs. (What did Timber Maniacs do again other than unlock secret Laguna scenes? Was it even a newspaper? I LP'd the game and I don't remember.)
If you're changing it to anything, make it Bongaa Bugle. The old name that I unilaterally threw away because I thought it sounded dumb. PS: Kelt caught the irony. --BlueHighwind 02:17, January 9, 2015 (UTC)
I concur with Blue. Not only is changing the name a waste of time, it is detrimental and people will only ask to change it again later. "Shinra News" is not only a cool and ironic name, but it's more descriptive than those suggested and has obvious meaning to anyone.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 07:59, January 9, 2015 (UTC)

FNC Rebrand[]

If we're now the Lightning Wiki, 'Shinra News' doesn't make much sense. If anyone has any FNC related newspaper titles to suggest, that'd be helpful. The only find I have is in the Brain Blast article. One of the questions refers to an organisation called 'Academia Central Broadcasting Station'. I also agree with ending Shinra News. Like stated before, we can easily reblog articles on Twitter and it will have the same effect.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 21:25, June 29, 2019 (UTC)

Welp
Well, since someone jumped the gun on declaring the end, and there's nobody who seems to be in favour of keeping it open, I think we can consider this pretty much settled. The twitter account will take over the functions of the news page to the best of our ability.
that was I, SCM. I figured someone had to send it off the right way. I do want to help keep up on Twitter, but I want no part of the wiki's official feed vis a vis control. You can follow me at @Swordzman236 if you want. Swordzmanp236 (talk) 02:04, June 30, 2019 (UTC)
