Are anonymous votes to be signed with ~~~~ as well?[]

FFVII Cait Sith Battle

Signing votes is important as it helps tracking which votes were casted correctly: the same person could vote on the same character once in a week or so, and it would be kinda hard to know which ones are correct and which are none (yeah, I know about pages' story and all that). Yet, the same anon can cast vote on the same character having different IPs, so that's kinda a problem, too, but this we need to leave to those anons and their sense of good-and-wrong behaviour.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 20:43, January 14, 2012 (UTC)

That's because he takes ownership and won't let people help him otherwise they feel his wrath. Which is not how it should be. 79.69.195.194 14:06, January 15, 2012 (UTC)

I was looking at the logo for the DNC, and although I liked it I thought it was lacking in characters. There's not a very large range, and also it doesn't include newer characters from FFXIII and its sequel. So, I thought, maybe I'll throw together a logo and see what people think.
DNCLogo.jpg
It's okay if it's not used, it didn't take all that long to make. I just thought that some people might appreciate a new logo is all. I might have gone a bit overboard adding characters... it's a tad crowded. But, any thoughts? MateusNamelink Dissicon ff2 Emp1 11:19, January 18, 2012 (UTC)

It is a bit too crowded and Colosseum is spelt with one L. But I like how the text is on the forefront with Ultros hanging around in there. I think a good logo idea would actually be to have like a Colosseum type image on the background, plus the text and Ultros over it.Keltainentoukokuu 18:24, January 18, 2012 (UTC)EDIT: Like image of an actual arena I mean. :)Keltainentoukokuu 18:26, January 18, 2012 (UTC)
Darn, I knew the spelling looked off :P
Anyway, thanks for your input. I did fear it was a bit crowded when I posted it, but I also felt that the one being used now didn't have enough images. I guess I'll go have another crack at it :) MateusNamelink Dissicon ff2 Emp1 22:57, January 18, 2012 (UTC)

I've had another shot at it, this time with correct spelling. I don't know if it's still too crowded. MateusNamelink Dissicon ff2 Emp1 00:27, January 19, 2012 (UTC)

I think that's really cool. :) Although..."dragon's" would have an apostrophe...Keltainentoukokuu 01:32, January 19, 2012 (UTC)
My grammar skills leave something to be desired :P
Easily fixed, though. MateusNamelink Dissicon ff2 Emp1 01:50, January 19, 2012 (UTC)
I like it. It'd be 'symbolic' of the 'new regime' or whatever. (Nothing against TA really, it's just that it's pretty obvious the DNC is gonna get new administration after being poorly managed for so long.) C A T U S E

There we go, finally got the title correct! Thanks for the support, guys. Even if it's not used, I still had fun making it :) MateusNamelink Dissicon ff2 Emp1 01:58, January 19, 2012 (UTC)

SomeDudE X 02:02, January 19, 2012 (UTC)# I reckon its great. much better that the current logo

Blue made the current logo, as I recall. I started an alternate, though it was never quite finished. I think if you want to redesign the logo, yours is certainly colorful and eye-catching, but you should try to be more inclusive of all games.

Yes, I did fear the same thing when I made it. If I had found sprites of FFVII - FFXII characters, I'd have added them, but unfortunately I don't know if there are any. But, thank you for the input. MateusNamelink Dissicon ff2 Emp1 02:33, January 20, 2012 (UTC)

Some suggestions, don't know how viable they are: Sky Pirates' Den sprites, Squall appears as a cameo in FFVI PS loading menu, FFT has Cloud and Balthier...Keltainentoukokuu 03:05, January 20, 2012 (UTC)
Ah! I completely forgot about the Sky Pirate's Den. The sprites aren't exactly the same as the old games, but they'll work just as well. Thanks! I'll give it a shot. MateusNamelink Dissicon ff2 Emp1 03:20, January 20, 2012 (UTC)

How does this look? I've included Balthier and Penelo in the top right corner, sitting on the title. Squall is below the word "Colosseum" looking very unimpressed, as usual. And I even found a Final Fantasy V sprite of Sephiroth which I put below Garland. I would have added Cloud, but I don't think there's much room for him there. What I had been working on, and you are free to pursue this as well, if you like the idea, was to create a giant grid, with some other design elements. It might work well if you put the grid at the tip and made it look sort of like a character select in a fighter game with DNC in the middle, and then on the bottom half, an illustration or 3d-ized version of the DNC as it appeared in FFVI. That may be difficult, but I think it would be characterful on a number of levels.

I'll give it a try and see what I come up with. Sounds interesting, if I can pull it off successfully. MateusNamelink Dissicon ff2 Emp1 01:35, January 21, 2012 (UTC)

SomeDudE X 14:54, January 21, 2012 (UTC)Any idea on when this'll be finished? After giving the current logo some notice i have come to the conclusion that it dosn't really appeal to me anymore (almost looks depressing =/).
Yeah, I'll see if I can get it finished. I've actually been rather busy (not Wiki-wise) lately, and I don't get much time to spare. And most of my time on the Wiki is on the Final Fantasy Answers Wiki. But I'll see what I can do :) MateusNamelink Dissicon ff2 Emp1 02:09, January 25, 2012 (UTC)

DNC Future Bureaucracy[]

Fistpaladinsmall
TacticAngel TALK 02:28, January 20, 2012 (UTC)
Given the upcoming changes likely to occur to the DNC, I feel it is most appropriate to discuss the shape and form, size and scope of the future bureaucracy you would like to run the DNC. While I do not have a complete list, nor do I want to drive the discussion, some common things regarding the running of the DNC should be addressed including:
  • Suggestion page (form, function)
  • Committee (Number of people, organization, responsibility)
  • Archive Maintenance, including migrating the list of prior fights to a new location under the DNC.

Some understanding of how the system will work is important to avoid problems in the future. I could waltz in here and tell you how it should be run but that would rather defeat the purpose. I think I rather agree with the idea of having 3-5 people who have some authority and perhaps individual responsibility. What I am curious about is how you are going to make people work together, if this is consensus (in which case an odd number is better) or if you want it to be more of a rotating dictator sort of deal.

My involvement, I would think would be relatively minimal if I maintain one at all. If I were to suggest any, it would only be that I would involve myself only in decision-making discussions and dispute resolution. I am happy to leave most decisions regarding the DNC to an group, really.

As far as weeks, it has been quite some time since we referred to these fights as weeks, and there was really only a short period of time where they were even vaguely weekly.

"My name is Ultros the receptionist, and each week..."
"... in an competition between the two combatants that week..."
"Each archive contains 10 weeks of different fights."

A Wrong "Visual"[]

In the fight between Kain and Fang, on the Fang's side it is written than Kain won by having 30.5 votes, yet Kain's side says he won with having 29.5 votes. I done some math and Fang's side is wrong. I would fix this, but I think I let the management "do the trick."—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 09:41, February 22, 2012 (UTC)

Regarding Formating[]

Fistpaladinsmall
TacticAngel TALK 03:30, April 16, 2012 (UTC)
I got a few complaints about the readability of our most recent fight (namely trying to read black text on a dark brown field) so I thought it might be good for me to hop in and make a suggestion.

In general, when I was choosing colors for the right side of the template and the left side of the template where the characters go, I would use a color that was predominantly featured within the image. The middle space encapsulating the 'v.' was approximately the middle-ground mathematically between these two colors.

The readability part that should be considered is down below, where a pastel is most desirable. How do you make a pastel? Me? I kind of guess. I got good at it over time, but lets say you have the color 3377FF. If you figure you want your color to be fairly bright but not screaming, you might change all of the values to something between BB and FF for each of the corresponding colors. For this example, lets just say we decided that BBCCFF would be the best choice. It would create a field that black text could be red on, and it would be of approximately the same color warmth as the border above it for the character.

Isn't this kindof stupid?[]

I mean- most of the time, it's just "which game has more fanboys?" instead of seriously looking at it. --McBob49 (talk) 21:26, August 11, 2012 (UTC)

That's not always true. Some characters are't liked well even in a game with numerous fans (like Cait Sith), whereas some characters are liked well even in a game without a lot of fans (Gilgamesh, anyone?); on some level, though, yes; it's a fan poll, not a real and true combat, that's obviously going to find its way in. Is there a problem? Jimcloud 21:29, August 11, 2012 (UTC)

Collapsing Peanut Gallery[]

Fistpaladinsmall
TacticAngel TALK 05:18, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
I know we have vacillated on this a few times, but with the peanut gallery being as frequently lengthy as it is, how about we put it into a collapsible tab. This was actually done a few times, but I think in my copy-paste frenzies of old, I killed it and was too lazy to put it back. I am interested to read it, sometimes, but not that interested.
FFType0-CinqueRender2

I think lengthiness does not really matter that much. It's not like anyone really cares for anything but the current fight, and the TOC takes them directly to the previous fight if they need it. So there's no problem with it being too long?

When discussion gets slightly out of hand? No, I don't think hiding the discussion underneath the carpet changes anything. Unless you want to discourage people from writing in it, but I don't think that's much of a problem either.

Like YouTube comments, people can read it if they want to. Hiding the entire thing doesn't solve the problem of a few individual flamers. 79.69.207.148 16:38, August 21, 2012 (UTC)

If ever there comes a time where I think collapsing the peanut gallery is in the best interest of those involved, I'm going to do it. It might do jack all to stop the flame war, but all it is is essentially is a warning before the yellow cards get handed out, if that needs to happen. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 00:08, October 21, 2012 (UTC)

Image size[]

Oasis width is 660px. The image-cell width is 40%. The maths? 66*4 = 264.

Do not make the images wider than 260px (preferably a bit less, considering borders and stuff). And if you really want to make it wider, then offset that width via a negative margin in a div. JBed (talk) 16:59, May 29, 2013 (UTC)

To be honest, while I do help run the place, I'm not interested in actually being in the committee, I'm not really one for planning fights, Magicite Madness 3 was enough for me for a few years. I'm fine with just being a janitor/peanut gallery snarker.
