:I could've sworn I got those images from Caves of Narshe, but looking at their Maps pages they're no longer there, so maybe my memory is just bad? Also, back then, we didn't have a lot of copyright templates so SECopyright was just the generic "slap this on everything" template.

:Anyways, the way I set up {{tl|FFT BI}} comes off as sloppy and unprofessional even without accounting for copyright problems, especially when we have the [[Forum:Map extension|Map extension]] up and running, or could just generate Dissidia-like maps for Lua or something. What I'll do for now is move them all to {{tl|OCopyright}} crediting Xifanie's work (though as Kelt says, they are still SE-copyright), and sometime soon redesign the Tactics maps.

It's probably a bit lengthy to do, but I think the abilities and unit data for FFBE could use some Module:Data-ifying since there are ''so many''. I'm not sure I'll complete that (since I've just finished with updating the weapons list, and I want to continue working on the units' pages/gameplay), and everything else, but well... Deletion

Could someone delete this (link to "Raid on Kohlingen" article was present here) article for me? No one but me has edited it, so it won't be missed. --CrappyScrap (talk) 18:22, July 10, 2014 (UTC)

Danke! --CrappyScrap (talk) 22:26, July 10, 2014 (UTC)

Can someone do a speedy deletion of this (link to "First Gestahlian Campaign" article was present here) article for me? I was way too hasty when I wrote it and as a result it's factually wrong on a number of points higher than what can be repared. --CrappyScrap (talk) 04:54, September 16, 2014 (UTC)

Y BTW, you can request a speedy delete with {{tl|SD}}. {{Delete}} implies it's up for discussion. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 07:16, September 16, 2014 (UTC)

I'm wondering whether we need all the screenshots that are currently in Uncategorised Images. They're all from the newest FFXV trailer. But the uploader has not responded to my request to license and categorise and do we actually need these? I don't know enough about XV to know where to put them. Restoration

Can images be restored on the wiki that were deleted? If so, these would need to be restored. FFVI SNES Battle for the Frozen Esper.png, FFVI SNES Esper Attack Ancient Castle.png, FFVI SNES Raid on Narshe.png, and FFVI SNES Battle over the Floating Continent.png. These were deleted for some reason. Fenrir9 (talk) 02:25, February 9, 2016 (UTC)

Y Xeno deleted them in November 2014 as duplicated/superseded files, which could mean that there are/were better versions elsewhere on the wiki ... or he was just purging Unused Files at the time and got a bit trigger-happy. Either way, your files are back. Cat (meowhunt) 05:24, February 9, 2016 (UTC)

Hey guys, I don't know if anyone remembers me but I used to be on here a lot a few years ago (Wow...looking back it was 2011...so yeah it's been a while). Anyway, I had mostly completed a walkthrough for FFVIII and with the remaster coming out I was interested in trying to finish it. I know it was deleted a while back since it wasn't completed but I was hoping someone would be willing to restore the pages for me. They should all be under the main thread of Walkthrough:Final Fantasy VIII/Bond with a number of subpages since I think I got through disk 3 on it. I'll be going back through all the templates and what I wrote to make sure nothing else has changed...and if I need to do more than just request it here to have it restored please let me know. Thanks! Bond_em7 (Owl Me) 12:27, June 11, 2019 (UTC)

Y Two things to keep in mind:
  • If we do a pass on the walkthroughs and find it unfinshed and unedited for a year it's gone again.
  • There's probably quite a few broken links for that have been renamed over the past 3 years, you'll have to fix those yourself. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 12:54, June 11, 2019 (UTC)

Thanks SCM. I'm definitely planning on finishing it in short order and I do plan on going back through completely to make sure things are properly linked (a couple pages are redlinks but I can fix that easily). On that note I found one page that wasn't restored here so if you could do that it would help. Thank you! Bond_em7 (Owl Me) 14:49, July 17, 2019 (UTC)

Merging/Splitting

Merge "Template talk:Theatrhythm"'s history with "Template talk:TFF", since TFF is the proper template name now. --Shockstorm 06:36, May 2, 2014 (UTC)

Merge "Endure (Status)" with "Vigilance (Status)", as the latter is the correct name. --Shockstorm 02:36, May 3, 2014 (UTC)

Y "Vigilance (Status)" was a redirect with no prior history so merge not needed, move is done. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 00:54, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

Could someone merge Maduin (Final Fantasy VI) to Maduin (Final Fantasy VI) as all summon appearances are in reference to his character from FFVI? Oh.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 18:15, February 25, 2015 (UTC)

Hiroyuki Ito could really do with being locked to admins only. We first began having problems back in September 2013 with the user SQEX (though issues with the article itself and the edit warring began back in May), and he was finally blocked in January. However, the fact that he has continued to come back to this article and repeatedly add in long-winded passages without sources, using multiple sockpuppet accounts, is quite frankly ridiculous. It is now April 2015, he's been at it for over a year! Drake blocked him yet again today for editing under the name Follow My Lead. Off the top of my head this makes four registered sockpuppets of his that have been blocked, not to mention several attempts as an IP too. I'd hate to lock moderators out of being able to edit the article, but unfortunately there's no option to allow all staff members access, only options for autoconfirmed and admins. Call me lazy if you wish but I'm just sick of seeing him come back thinking he can get away with it again. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 19:10, April 20, 2015 (UTC)

Can't Wikia adjust editing right for staff? Admin-only is very limiting and would mean that if a moderator would like to add something to the article it would mean going through the article talk page more often that required. Also, why did this "Hiroyuki Ito" started in the first place? Fanboying over how "perfect" he is? No one's perfect and that stubborn fool of a user doesn't seem to know that. -_- —Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 21:58, April 20, 2015 (UTC)
Well, I think we had to ask Wikia for moderator, I don't know if they would be able to give us an additional protection option to include them as well. This whole business started the minute G-Zay was banned from Wikipedia for his Ito editing, so he then came over here. This will show you the extent he goes to sockpuppet, the fact he's been doing it on Wikipedia and here for ages now just shows a real lack of a life. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 22:03, April 20, 2015 (UTC)
Oh my— He's kind of a danger to Wikis of all kinds. He's like some kind of twisted fanatic.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 22:08, April 20, 2015 (UTC)
He's notorious to the extent that people even made an encyclopedia dr*matica article about him. I support a sysop-level protection, the amount of editing is pretty extreme, and this is clearly a case where he won't go away like most people normally do, sadly. If anyone has anything to add to the page, they can propose it on the talk page. Not sure what to add other than more fanboying/bloating and the odd update which a sysop can do with prodding anyway, though. As for a mod-level protection, we'd have to ask Wikia to provide a new protection level below sysop and above autoconfirmed, and I'm not sure how easy that is to do (I believe SCM said it was stupid hard for them to do).--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 22:13, April 20, 2015 (UTC)
I am totally against sysop level protection. It's not frequent enough. Yesterday, before that January, before that June. We're well equipped to deal with one user every few months. JBed (talk) 22:32, April 20, 2015 (UTC)
We are not going to perma-protect the page, and even if we were, an autoconfirmed level protect would get most of his socks. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 22:46, April 20, 2015 (UTC)
Now it's mentioned, I'm not sure that sysop protection - or asking for a mod level protection - is worth it for the page. It's an eyeroll that we'll get every few months, but unless it becomes more frequent than every few months, not worth it.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 22:58, April 20, 2015 (UTC)
Now I'm reminded why I never take part in discussions anymore. Okay, cool. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 08:43, April 21, 2015 (UTC)

I don't think we should protect it. It is a pain to check all his edits, but he only edits select few articles at least. Sometimes his edits are actually useful. Just need to indiscriminately remove all edits without sources and all pointless fanboying. It takes just a few button presses to revert something after all, it's not the worst thing ever.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:14, April 21, 2015 (UTC)

I only wanted to suggest something to make our lives a bit easier, and instead I've just publicly embarrassed myself. If anyone needs me I'll be over here, keeping my mouth shut. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 17:40, April 21, 2015 (UTC)

Blocks

What did I do as wrong as SQEX (talk) to warrant a block? This ban reeks animosity. You blocked me because I edited the Hiroyuki Ito page, yet all I did was add important hotlinks that were missing from the page. Go and check my additions. Further still, after I solely reduced the info on the page after everybody said it should be reduced (check the Talk Page for the discussion), a user named Mask no Oni (talk) has greatly expanded the 'Game Design' section after my reduction. Despite this, you've given no warning or penalisation to that user. So why do I get blocked for adding virtually nothing to the page and he doesn't?

Also, you claim I warned to not edit the page, but never once was a warning given. I was never told if I ever edit the Hiroyuki Ito page again, I would get blocked. Not once. If it was, I'd have remembered and known better. In actuality, all you did was put a lock on the page and say it was "to prevent edit warriors from pretending to be anons on this page". No mention was made anywhere, not even on my Talk Page, that if I edit the page it will result in a ban.

Therefore, I'm rightfully appealing this ban. If no warning was given, how would I know I was stepping out of line by merely adding correct hotlinks to the page? Even if you had given me the warning to no longer edit the page, I'd have questioned why such a harsh rule was being applied solely to me, especially seeing as I was the one that streamlined the page when everybody was whining about it being to bloated. Yet, after doing this, a user Mask no Oni (talk) has recently added back info that everybody was whining should be reduce, yet you didn't do shit to his account. No block, no warning, nothing...

I'm seriously confused and surprised by you actions here. An explanation is needed and I will hear it. SQEX FF (talk) 06:26, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

You were, in fact, told that if you edited Ito's page again, it would be treated as vandalism. We are quite frankly sick of any and all shit coming from that page and the only reason it's not fully protected is that most of it was being generated by one user, namely you, and because of that, we elected to go straight to blocking. There is no warning given to Mask no Oni because page bloating is only against the rules if being done excessively/disruptingly, and frankly, I don't see the problem with what he added anyway.
Your appeal is denied, and your new account is banned for ban evasion. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 06:39, January 9, 2014 (UTC)
Welp, I give up. I'm done with this community. No point hanging around a place you're heavily disliked. It's not like I'm paid to contribute here, after all. There's much better things to do with my time. 173.208.228.103 06:54, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

I've just had a look through the edits Mask no Oni made, which in fact are just two small paragraphs and some info moving. Not exactly a great expansion. I'm sure you thought you were doing well, but it does pay to listen to the staff and fellow users. Hopefully you've realised that. Your SQEX account will have its ban lifted in three months. SQEX FF, never. We do not approve of ban skipping and sockpuppeting here. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 12:37, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

Special:Contributions/173.63.209.124 has been changing J2e information for weeks now to what looks like more recent ports and has not responded to any of my requests to provide sources or proof. He has made extensive changes to the Final Fantasy IV translations article and I'm questioning whether or not it's good faith. EDIT- I'm not even joking, I'm downloading the fan translation now and will play it to see what's right. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 18:42, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

They tried to redo the edit on Neo Exdeath (see here), and tried adding one of his alternate names to the Dissidia page; I decided to play it safe and revert it, since although I have little experience with translations, I'm certain they intended his name to be translated as Exdeath that time around. Lord Grammaticus (talk) 20:01, January 9, 2014 (UTC)
Fae has blocked after I requested it on IRC. I am unsure about the fan translation edits now because I've found out there are two versions of the J2e, of which I have the 10th anniversary addition which appears to be older. I could have been wrong about all his changing, but edit warring over names is unacceptable. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 20:04, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

Requesting a second block of this anon. Despite Fae's instruction to him, after blocking for two hours as a warning, to inform a staff member of his sources regarding the fan translation changes, he has returned and continued to edit the translations and ignoring my messages, of which I have left one more. This is getting ridiculous. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 18:36, January 10, 2014 (UTC)

Y 1 day block should hopefully get his attention. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 21:07, January 10, 2014 (UTC)

Request to keep an eye on this guy; he seems to be constantly insulting users through edit summaries and using vile words like "Retarded". How he's been allowed to get away with this is beyond me. I've personally only just noticed him and looked through his edit history. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 09:00, August 8, 2014 (UTC)

Also added Dissidia 2015 to new releases, because even though it's not out here, it is in Japan. Last comment in the block section

I feel like if the person had actually applied that "better things to do" logic when they actually needed it most instead of trying to "salavge" some semblance of victory by appearing indifferent and getting the last word, they might never have been blocked to begin with...

That said, will the block of the IPs they last used (if any) affect the block on their main account? I've seen people have their blocks lengthened for being similarly persistent, and I forget if that's how things are done here. Lord Grammaticus (talk) 07:55, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

Eh, if he's as gone as he says he is, we won't need to apply any IP blocks this time.
It's typical (but not required) to make blocks longer for repeat offenders, but beyond that there's no guideline on how long to block someone. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 08:20, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

FFT grid images used improperly

For example, File:At the Gate of Limberry Castle OH.png.

The images were created by user Xifanie of ffhacktics.com, rather than ripped from the game, so they can't use the SECopyright fair use claim, since it's a derivative work. As a side note, the image is not a low-resolution version, but rather was probably ripped via a screencap and then edited in Paint (given the white margins).

At the least, the image pages should give proper credit. Maybe clip them properly and don't display them stretched. --Raijinili (talk) 08:41, December 13, 2014 (UTC)

While we here at the staff noticeboard appreciate you letting us know this, the staff noticeboard is usually for things that need admin activity to be resolved, which this decidedly does not. I would bring this up on one of the image's talk pages, or in a forum post, personally. Jimcloud 12:42, December 13, 2014 (UTC)
Sorry about that. It was the first thing I saw in the sidebar that seemed appropriate. --Raijinili (talk) 03:16, December 14, 2014 (UTC)
If a pic uses any game assets in making it it is SE copyright, but if everything is created from scratch copyright is to the creator. Personally, I have aimed to put info on where I got the file to the file page if it is more than just a simple screenshot even if I think it is SE copyright file.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:52, December 13, 2014 (UTC)
Moot point now, but: It's not SE copyright. SE does not have complete rights to it, since there is originality (for example, the layout and presentation) that wasn't by SE. Beside that, it's not fair use. --Raijinili (talk) 03:16, December 14, 2014 (UTC)
I could've sworn I got those images from Caves of Narshe, but looking at their Maps pages they're no longer there, so maybe my memory is just bad? Also, back then, we didn't have a lot of copyright templates so SECopyright was just the generic "slap this on everything" template.
Anyways, the way I set up {{Battle information FFT}} comes off as sloppy and unprofessional even without accounting for copyright problems, especially when we have the Map extension up and running, or could just generate Dissidia-like maps for Lua or something. What I'll do for now is move them all to {{OCopyright}} crediting Xifanie's work (though as Kelt says, they are still SE-copyright), and sometime soon redesign the Tactics maps.
Sorry about that. C A T U S E 18:48, December 13, 2014 (UTC)
Alright, thanks. (Xifanie says she herself made those images.) --Raijinili (talk) 03:16, December 14, 2014 (UTC)

Every time I come back there's more cluttering up this space, and we're currently debating on the IRC whether to actually keep all the images I've just been deleting, the ones that have been sat there since the 13th and apparently some users said to keep but have done nothing about moving them. Can I ask that maybe I'm not the only one to be checking and clearing it out? I'm often gone for several weeks at a time now meaning they're just sat there and users aren't being told where they went wrong with uploading. I noticed that in "FF Series (Cont'd)" we lack Final Fantasy XV which we should have added like two years ago, even though it only has a demo. Plus, "Future Releases" should get World of Final Fantasy. And Explorers should probably be moved to either "Latest Games" or removed altogether since it's available in Japan and I don't suppose we'll get international release because if they planned to they'd announce the localization on E3 2015 which they didn't do. And maybe Bravely Second: End Layer to "Future Releases" since localization for the next year have been announced.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 22:56, June 25, 2015 (UTC)

about FFVII remake, it's very likely that we'll need an article for it once they announce the official title. should we create an article now and use "Final Fantasy VII Remake" as a placeholder title? Monterossa (talk) 08:54, June 26, 2015 (UTC)
C'mon guys, I created a new section for discussing topnav stuff about 5 hours before you left these comments. :(
We can't say for sure if FFVII Remake will need it's own page yet. We don't know how much will be changed from the original and if it's not enough of a change it won't warrant a new page. Like, if they make it into some variety of ARPG, that will need to be a new page as covering both versions on one page will be difficult if not impossible.
And before anyone brings up War of the Lions, I'm pretty sure that's not meant to have it's own page, we've just never gotten around to merging it into the main Tactics page. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 11:06, June 28, 2015 (UTC)

Bravely Second: End Layer categories

Bravely Default Ba'al and asterisk holder enemy pages

The Ba'al enemy pages from Bravely Default should now have the tag (Bravely Default) since they appear in Bravely Second as well. It would be smart to do so now before anyone makes the Bravely Second enemy pages.--Xion V. (talk) 04:17, May 18, 2016 (UTC)

New article for a piece of fan content

After reviewing the criteria for fandom-related articles, I request permission for an article for Final Fantasy VII: Machinabridged, a Machinima parody of FF7 by Team Four Star. Aside from the sizeable YouTube viewer count rivaling (and in some cases exceeding) that of Dead Fantasy, it's my understanding that the iTunes/Amazon sale of the parody's soundtrack—entirely featuring tracks from the original game reorchestrated by Cliff "AinTunez" Weinstein—is legally sanctioned by Square Enix, similar to Erutan. I've highlighted a comment from the AinTunez account confirming this. Would this be adequate for inclusion? SubZeroSilver (talk) 23:38, October 29, 2017 (UTC)

I think what they are saying there is that they don't need Square Enix's approval to release a cover album since they don't use any samples by them.
I had never heard of it but googling it now, it seems to be popular. It doesn't seem to have been acknowledged by SE or by a big gaming journalism outlet though, which was the crux when drafting the fandom content policy.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 16:01, October 30, 2017 (UTC)
So this subject isn't suitable as it stands? Because I have a contact who said there was confirmation of a contract from the Team Four Star account itself (TFS has replied to YouTube comments before), but they can't recall where; all I know from them is that the AinTunez comments weren't what my contact was talking about. TFS have stated that they have had sponsorship from Square Enix for a Final Fantasy XIV "Let's Play" series (opening as such with this video), but that's a different topic altogether. About the only reference from a significant third-party media outlet I could find on this is a shout-out from UK news website Metro, but that doesn't specialize exclusively in gaming.
I suppose the only other thing to do is ask for clarification directly. Otherwise, unless we can create an article on TFS itself (considering the Square Enix sponsorship), it looks like we may have to drop the subject altogether. SubZeroSilver (talk) 16:37, October 30, 2017 (UTC)

FFBE Modules

It's probably a bit lengthy to do, but I think the abilities and unit data for FFBE could use some Module:Data-ifying since there are so many.
