The Staff Noticeboard works to have your requests for staff action fulfilled. Just write your requests on the sections listed below, and we'll try to have the staff sort things out before the end of the week. Don't forget to include the timestamp.

Discussions will eventually be archived once the page gets too long. We request that users not modify the archive content.

Note to Staff: Please place this project page under your watchlist. When done, please place a Done timestamp by putting the {{Y}} on the header and your timestamp. Comments are optional but encouraged.

Deletion[]

Y Should everything at Special:PrefixIndex/Walkthrough:Bravely be deleted? ~Bobogoobo (talk) 17:36, February 14, 2024 (UTC)

Yes, I deleted it. More generally, walkthroughs that have been left unfinished for more than a year are deleted (usually after giving the author a courtesy warning). In the past we have kept track of them at User:Some Color Mage/Walkthrough List (cf also User:Catuse167/Walkthrough Purge 2020) though I suspect this is out-of-date. In any case a look at SCM's list suggests to me that I have some more walkthroughs to delete... Cat (meowhunt) 23:39, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Y Please delete Zenos yae Galvus (Dissidia NT)/Quotes and then rename Zenos Galvus/Dissidia NT/Quotes to that title. They are longstanding duplicate pages (someone tried to tag it but didn't put a delete reason) and the former has much better formatting, while the latter has an unnecessarily busy but otherwise very similar edit history. So I think that the currently misnamed one has the history worth keeping. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 22:24, February 16, 2024 (UTC)

Done. Not sure the yae should be part of the page name, though!Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 15:28, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

Restoration[]

  • Y File:Super Ball from FFVI SNES.png - file was renamed without leaving a redirect or updating links (both mainspace), then deleted for being unused. There are probably more, just came across this one. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 14:12, February 13, 2024 (UTC)
Restored! It's a problem with FFVI weapon images specifically.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 15:05, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
Looks like all the links to this were fixed, so deleting again. Cat (meowhunt) 16:03, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, I figured you could check the move history in the deleted revisions - the deleted page with still existing links is File:FFVI Super Ball Sprite.png. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 18:34, February 13, 2024 (UTC)
Oh I see what you meant now. It should be fixed. Cat (meowhunt) 02:34, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
This is concerning -- 1 June, 2021 is the day that we deleted everything in Special:UnusedFiles, but I guess this shows that there were files in UnusedFiles which were actually in use.
That said, I can't find any more FFVI weapon images in Special:WantedFiles, unless they're buried past number 1000. What there is a lot of in WantedFiles are images used in defunct talk bubbles... I suppose a very bored user with a lot of time on their hands could go through and remove all those images from their talk bubbles so we can actually use WantedFiles again, but it also sounds like a lot of work for little gain. Cat (meowhunt) 15:20, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
Some weapon pages' galleries have had FFVI files as broken links; I fix them if I see them but I don't know of any quick way to find them all. Perhaps this was the last one!Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 16:38, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
It looks like this happened because I screwed something up while trying to get Techno's image standardizer bot to work. So probably all this was my bad... Anyways, it's possible that more FFVI weapon files are messed up, but if they are, they are only linked to by exactly 1 page (otherwise they would appear in WantedFiles). Cat (meowhunt) 02:34, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Merging/Splitting[]

Renaming[]

Y Although no deletion reason was given, it looks like File:Adelbert Steiner character.jpg was replaced with File:Adelbert Steiner from Final Fantasy IX render.png, and the bot renamed it on some pages, but then reverted its edits. Not sure why that would be, it can probably be replaced again. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 20:46, February 13, 2024 (UTC)

It looks like this specifically happened on some defunct user talk bubble, I can't understand why the bot reverted itself but I removed the redlink from the talk bubble. Cat (meowhunt) 02:15, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

YClearly these haven't been updated in a while, but please rename all pages at Special:PrefixIndex/Final Fantasy XIV Patch Notes to lowercase "patch notes" (the page title that exists and is used for a few others), and update the ones that are redirects as well. I believe there's only the one page that links to any of them, so that can be updated all at once too. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 19:27, February 28, 2024 (UTC)

Joining?[]

Y Good Morning.

I've been editing on this wiki for a while and I'm interested in joining as a moderator. Are there any requirements or roles I may need beforehand? Vapor Rub (talk) 08:55, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Staff application instructions and general guidelines of what we want to see from applicants are available at Final Fantasy Wiki:Requests for Promotion. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 09:02, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Main Page update[]

Y Hello, as requested by the admins regarding possible updates to the main page, putting this here. This is a basic example we were thinking of adding to the main page, just to draw some attention to the upcoming title. Please note I'm actually not going to be available for about a week for any major edits, so if there's any concerns or need big changes to it, you can reach out to Wagnike2 or another wiki specialist regarding it, thanks! Mechemik (talk) 22:06, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

I really don't understand why message several admins, ignore their replies to their messages, and post on the noticeboard, instead of just leveraging our Wiki Representative to reach out to us.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 22:18, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
It looks good! I have moved it to Template:Portal/FFXVI Banner and added it to the front page. If you or Wagnike2 were planning to make any further changes, that should be fine. Cat (meowhunt) 22:32, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, glad to hear! We don't expect we'll need to make any further changes but I'll let them know just in case! Otherwise, we should be good and can get out of everyone's hair now :)
Your wiki rep did reach out to us afterwards regarding communication and we do apologize for the mishap. It also felt like it'd have been intruding a bit to join your wiki's Discord for the sole purpose of pinging the admins, but your rep made it clear it's perfectly fine to do that going forward. I would also like to extend our sincerest apologies again here in trying to communicate with everyone. We typically don't help out on such a large wiki that has many collaborating admins (which on a separate note, is refreshing to see) so we were rather unsure how to proceed as we're used to just talking to admins directly, as most wikis we help out on usually only have 1-2 active admins. From our personal experiences, we've never actually had to go through a wiki rep before, so this didn't actually occur to me or the rest to contact them, but I definitely noted it down if we ever need to reach out again here (hopefully without causing so many issues next time). We do appreciate everything you guys are doing here and thanks for working with us despite all the trouble we caused! Mechemik (talk) 00:19, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

Broken Redirects[]

Y There are almost a thousand entries in Special:BrokenRedirects. A lot of them can be bot-updated due to page moves. I would be happy to do it but would need a bot flag on my bot account. The Bravely Default ones can just be deleted, I imagine. Seems like there may be some leftover unused categories for those games as well. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 07:56, February 11, 2024 (UTC)

A good chunk of those are from me moving stuff around during ongoing renovations to the FF14 enemy pages, fixing those ones now. Adonzo (talk) 08:35, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
Another chunk of them stems from character pages for various crossover games being moved from subpages to tags eg. /Opera Omnia to (Opera Omnia). Will also work at those, they've been bugging me for a bit. Adonzo (talk) 08:44, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
All the ones in the file namespace (currently #926 through #950) probably need the destination file restored, as these are file redirects with usages. The files were deleted as supposedly unused. Odd that redirects didn't count towards that. There are some that are currently unused but I wonder if the links were removed from the relevant pages after the images were deleted. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 09:10, February 11, 2024 (UTC)
I just had Intangir Bot repair or delete all the broken redirects. It looks like somebody already fixed the links to the files -- nothing linked to those file redirects.
With regards to bot flags, you can request a bot flag / access to Intangir Bot at Project:Requests for Promotion, though I tend to be a bit uncomfortable giving bot powers to users who are new to FFWiki (even though you seem quite experienced from elsewhere). I only check the staff noticeboard every few days, but for urgent bot requests you can ping @Bot Users at wiki Discord server. Cat (meowhunt) 15:59, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
Nuking works. I looked at a random sample and the only one I'm curious about is Chaos/Dissidia/Quotes, because it was deleted (a long time ago) as a duplicate, but Chaos (Dissidia)/Quotes has never existed. I think there were also some redirects to Help pages, which technically exist, but I guess Fandom is never going to fix that particular bug. And yeah, I figured I'm way below any requirements, no worries. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 18:34, February 13, 2024 (UTC)
Yeah I figured the helpspace redirects were beyond help. As for the Dissidia subpage, I think we collapsed all of them into Dissidia Final Fantasy (PSP) battle dialogue because they were getting unwieldy. I guess we did so before anyone bothered to write the quote page for Chaos. Cat (meowhunt) 02:10, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Etymology JS[]

Y The script that recreates a "what links here" on Etymology pages, at the bottom of MediaWiki:Common.js, has errors due to MediaWiki updates and does not run, also stopping execution of anything further in the file due to not being scoped. It's a simple fix to get it working again - just make the following replacements:

  • From wgNamespaceNumber to mw.config.get("wgNamespaceNumber")
  • From wgPageName to mw.config.get("wgPageName")

If the "Mix" script that was commented out higher up the page is still needed, the same principle applies there. Also, the script that prefills Special:Upload can probably be replaced with simply using MediaWiki:upload-default-description, though don't know off the top of my head how license selection works now. Unfortunately Fandom locked down wikis being able to edit their own interface text so that requires a contact form. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 07:56, February 11, 2024 (UTC)

The JS changes have been submitted. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 20:23, 13 February 2024 (UTC)

Categorization[]

Y Please bot categorize everything linked on User:Bobogoobo/dpl#Walkthrough into the appropriate subcategory of Category:Walkthroughs. They are alphabetized to make it a bit easier. There are also several duplicate subcategories in there that could be corrected on pages (I believe the most current and consistent method is the lowercase plural "walkthroughs"). ~Bobogoobo (talk) 17:36, February 14, 2024 (UTC)

Along with a bunch of other walkthrough maintenance, I have added categories to everything in the DPL query and standardized any nonstandard categories I could find. Thanks for making this DPL script, fixing walkthrough categories is something that we should've done a long time ago but never got around to because it wasn't obvious how to look up messed up categories. Cat (meowhunt) 15:41, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

Y Recategorize all non-redirects in Special:PrefixIndex/Final Fantasy Record Keeper weapons from "Category:Final Fantasy Record Keeper" (if present) to "Category:Final Fantasy Record Keeper Weapons". Do the same for Special:PrefixIndex/Final Fantasy Record Keeper enemies with "Category:Enemies in Final Fantasy Record Keeper". ~Bobogoobo (talk) 18:30, February 18, 2024 (UTC)

Done, thanks for catching this issue. Cat (meowhunt) 03:09, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
