Welcome to Shinra News (formerly Current Events, Midgar Press and Bonga Bugle), the propaganda machine of the Shinra Electric Power Company, now hosted at the Final Fantasy Wiki. Here, special news pertaining to the Wiki and the Final Fantasy series that grab our attention will be reported for all to read. Anyone can start a news report, but be sure to leave the date, location, source and sign your report with three tildes (~~~) before sending in to the printing press.

News reports should be structured in a chronological manner, with recent issues posted at the top. To post a reaction or write a comment, follow the links provided according to the respective news link. Remember, only news related to the Wiki and to the Final Fantasy series are allowed. Star Ocean to warp in on Final Fantasy Brave Exvius July 27

Characters from Square Enix's Star Trek-inspired RPG series Star Ocean are coming to Final Fantasy Brave Exvius as part of yet another cross-canon collab to launch next week. Fayt Leingod, Reimi Saionji, and Roddick Farrence will be among the newest rare units to join the already-massive cast, per a joint announcement on Twitter. This latest collab celebrates the release of Star Ocean: Anamnesis, a 3D battler that features appearances from all five main series titles, released worldwide July 10, 2018.

Star Ocean began as an RPG developed by tri-Ace and published by Enix Corp. for the Japanese market in 1996. The series is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary. The second title, The Second Story, was the first global release.

Rinoa Heartilly joins the conflict in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

Rinoa Heartilly from Final Fantasy VIII has been revealed as the next playable character in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT and its arcade version.

She is the third character from the Season Pass DLC following Vayne Carudas Solidor from Final Fantasy XII and Locke Cole from Final Fantasy VI, and is set to be released on July 12th for the arcades and late August for the PlayStation 4.

King's Knight -Wrath of the Dark Dragon- closes, leaves door wide open for feedback

King's Knight -Wrath of the Dark Dragon- has officially closed, and it is expected to complete closure work by 08:00 UTC. The final client update, version 2.1.21, has been released and will disable any installed copy. However, Square Enix has left a link to its support page for the title, leaving players the opportunity to address the company with constructive feedback.

Wrath of the Dark Dragon was the 2017 reboot and expansion of the 1986 Square Co., Ltd. shooter King's Knight, and was launched under the Final Fantasy XV Universe project.

Just Cause 3 crashes Final Fantasy Brave Exvius in raid

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Just Cause have announced a collab, dropping Rico Rodriguez, Mario Frigo, and Annika Svennson from the third installment as units. The event, The Son of Medici, runs through Thursday, July 5; it also comes on the heels of Square Enix announcing a fourth game at E3.

Released in 2015, Just Cause 3 is an action-adventure game based on real-life military strategy.

Patch 1.24 released for Final Fantasy XV

Patch 1.24 adds a new attire for completing Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ignis (Unkempt Crownsguard) where Ignis's hair is down like in the Verse 2 version of the episode. It also adds two new cookbooks purchasable at Altissia's JM Market (outside the hotel), which contain the Kupoberry Cheesecake and Golden Chocobo Tart recipes, which were previously available from the Moogle Chocobo Carnival. The patch implements the ability to change title background after completing Episode Ignis and adjusts loading screens.

Final Fantasy XV: Comrades got Thanatos' Bow to the base shop in Lestallum, appearing when the player receives the Piercing Bow. Regis's eyebrows were added to a shop at Cape Caem, as well as a steam cleaner to remove dirt from the avatar.

The patch is 3.5 GB in size.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper plans massive overhaul starting 30 May, gets official YouTube channel

Following earlier announcements regarding support changes for its iOS frontend, Square Enix and DeNA Games are preparing to roll out a massive update to the three-year-old Final Fantasy Record Keeper on May 30, setting the stage for an array of new content over the next six months and beyond. The developers released an official YouTube channel on Thursday in the spirit of improving relations with the global fanbase. The channel's first video, titled "FFRK Producer Letter" features an hour-long interview moderated and interpreted by SE Senior Marketing Manager Kaori Takasue with FFRK collaborators Yu Sasaki (DeNA) and Ichiro Hazama (SE), and provides extensive detail on the forthcoming relaunch.

Final Fantasy XV character Ignis is set to appear in the first event of the relaunch, a Collector's Event titled "Royal Tactician". Various festivals and Relic Draws are also outlined in the video.

Client version 5.6.6 for iOS was also launched, adding support for the upgraded title as well as large-screen devices.

Final Fantasy VII inducted into World Video Game Hall of Fame

Final Fantasy VII has been inducted into the Strong National Museum of Play's World Video Game Hall of Fame. Various mobile games will be celebrating this honor for the 1997 title, considered a milestone for the greater series because of its achievements in technical development, musical composition, and story writing for the industry.

Final Fantasy series producer/director Yoshinori Kitase delivered his acceptance speech via video, including how the honor might influence work on the still-forthcoming reboot of the title. Another Square Enix game, the original Tomb Raider, was also inducted into the 2018 class.

The World Video Game Hall of Fame, opened in 2015, is a project of the Rochester, New York-based museum that also houses the National Toy Hall of Fame.

Four new DLC plus other news for Final Fantasy XV announced

During a panel hosted at PAX East, Square Enix announcement several additions to Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy XV: Comrades.

Summary:

  • Four DLC episodes to come in 2019: Ardyn, Lunafreya, Aranea, and Noctis.
  • New main theme by Yoko Shimomura.
  • Final Fantasy XV: Comrades will become a standalone game, i.e. obtainable without the main game.
  • Players will be able to hide treasure boxes other players can find whose contents appreciate in value the longer they remain unfound.
  • Players will be able to create a custom avatars for use in the main game to replace Noctis.
  • Official mod tools and level editor are coming.

King's Knight -Wrath of the Dark Dragon- sunsetting, will end service in late June

Square Enix today announced on the Final Fantasy XV Twitter account that it will be terminating King's Knight effective June 26, 2018, nine months after it was released. The company has pushed out an update, version 2.1.17, that coincides with the termination of in-app purchases. This is the second side project of the Final Fantasy XV Universe to be closed, after Justice Monsters Five.

UPDATE (17:30 UTC): Per in-game announcement, Square Enix was experiencing difficulties maintaining the game and came to the decision to terminate after some deliberation. Nevertheless, events and giveaways are still planned for the final 90 days.

King's Knight was a reimagining of the 1986 Square Co., Ltd. title of the same name.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper updates iOS client, drops iPhone 4 and earlier devices

Following a revision to its Android frontend earlier this year, Final Fantasy Record Keeper hands iOS users a notice regarding a major update. The new client will drop support for versions older than 8.0, in effect ending service for iPhone 4 and other 2010 and earlier hardware. Details of the update have not yet been announced.

Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition and Royal Edition are out

Final Fantasy XV has been released on PC, available from Steam, Windows Store and Origin. The Windows Edition is the extended version of the game that includes new content and all DLC episodes. Console gamers can get the same content by purchasing the Royal Edition, or downloading the DLC episodes individually as well as the Royal Pack that add the new content to the base version of the game.

Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition gets The Sims 4 Pack as a pre-order bonus

Square Enix collaborates with Electronic Arts and Maxis to bring The Sims 4 attires to Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition. The pack is available since launch day on March 6, 2018, until May 1, 2018, for players who purchase Windows Edition via Origin. The pack includes a Sim-themed outfit featuring The Sims 4 Llama Suit and Plumbob for Noctis in the main game, and for the player's avatar in Final Fantasy XV: Comrades.

Those who pre-order from Origin also receive the "FFXV Decal Selection" for the player's car.

Beginning March 8, 2018, those who own The Sims 4 can also download a Noctis outfit for their avatars.

Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition demo is out

Director of Final Fantasy XV, Hajime Tabata, addressed the Steam community today in a video. The upcoming free demo will encompass Chapter 1 and be available ahead of the game’s release on STEAM®, Origin and Windows 10. From now until May 1, players who purchase or pre-purchase Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition from Steam will receive the Half-Life® Pack, which features an attire for Noctis based on Gordon Freeman, star of the Half-Life series, including the HEV Suit, Scientist Glasses and Crowbar. The Half-Life Pack will also be available for Final Fantasy XV: Comrades.

Previously announced pre-order bonuses include "FFXV Fashion Collection" for Steam, containing a selection of T-shirts for Noctis to wear depicting his party members from their character episodes as well as a Comrades shirt. Players who pre-order the game from Origin will receive the "FFXV Decal Selection," containing decals for the Regalia. The save data from the Windows 10 version of Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition is compatible with the Xbox One version of Final Fantasy XV and a post-launch update will enable Windows 10 and Xbox One cross play for Comrades. Players who pre-order the game from the Microsoft Store will receive the bonus "FFXV Powerup Pack," containing Dodanuki katana that reduces enemy defense with each slash, as well as 10 Phoenix Downs and 10 Elixirs.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper launches collab with Kingdom Hearts

Final Fantasy Record Keeper has once again announced a major collaboration with another Square Enix franchise, Kingdom Hearts. Per in-game communication, the two games have launched a collaboration website as well as a YouTube video highlighting activities that will take place.

Sora and Riku will make their debut as units during the collaboration. Further details regarding their placement in Record Keeper have not yet been announced.

This is the first out-of-universe collaboration in the global release of Final Fantasy Record Keeper. The Japanese version has had several more tie-ins with other games outside of the franchise.

Standard events for both Record Keeper and Kingdom Hearts Union χ will run between February 22 and March 8, starting at 5:00 PM PST.

UPDATE (February 15th): The Gummi Ship collect-and-win shooter game has closed. Players amassed over 11,000,000,000 points in the game period. All players of either FFRK or KHUX will receive ALL prize items in each game, beginning February 22.

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age has been released on Steam. It is a port of the PlayStation 4 HD remaster of Final Fantasy XII released last summer. In addition to the improvements added to the PlayStation 4 version over the PlayStation 2 original, the Steam version is further enhanced with new features:

  • 60FPS
  • Mouse and keyboard support
  • Compatible with 21:9 ultra-wide monitors - Up to three HD monitors can be used for a potential 48(16x3):9 experience.
  • New Game Plus and New Game Minus are now accessible from the beginning of the game.
  • Three background music options – The original, re-orchestrated and soundtrack versions are now available from the beginning of the game.
  • Maximized License Points and Gil - New functionality added to grant players max License Points and Gil from the configuration screen.
  • Full controller support and Steam Trading Cards

Mods will not be officially supported.

Those who purchase the game through Steam within the first week of launch will receive a 20% discount, a three-track digital music compilation, and a Steam Skin illustrated by Isamu Kamikokuryo.

Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia released worldwide

Square Enix and Koei Tecmo have teamed up to launch the global version of Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia to all app stores in all markets. The game went live at approximately 6:07 PM PST. After a delay of roughly 2-3 hours, the iOS version's infrastructure was also ready for play.

Players logging in during the launch period will receive a gift of 300 Gems per day for their first 20 days. The "All-Stars" gacha draw is also available through February 28, to obtain rare equipment for the 25 playable characters, with the first pull at half-price..

The game is free-to-play on iOS 8.0 and later, as well as Android 4.4 "KitKat" and later. A Facebook account is required to store and transfer progress.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper to push major upgrade for Android, will end service for older versions in February

Per an in-game announcement, Final Fantasy Record Keeper will be receiving an Android client update on February 18-19, 2018. Details of expected changes have not been released. However, Square Enix and DeNA Games have set the end-of-life for the game on Android versions earlier than 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich". When the update is released, it will not be available to clients below Android 4.0 via Google Play, and these clients will no longer be able to access the game. Previously, the game would run on Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" and all later versions.

Android users are encouraged to update or upgrade their devices as soon as possible to continue play. Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" was released in 2009, while Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" was released in 2011.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT released

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT has been released for PlayStation 4. The game is the third game released in the Dissidia Final Fantasy series, the first to be team-based, and the first not released for PlayStation Portable. The original arcade release did not contain any story content until the "Battle of the Gods" DLC. The story centers around the conflict between the goddess Materia and the god Spiritus, who have summoned warriors to fight for them against the other. The game is a three-versus-three based fighting game, in which battles take place in three dimensional stages based on locations from the Final Fantasy series. Players select characters from one of four different classes (Vanguard, Marksman, Assassin or Specialist) and pit them against the other team.

Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition coming February 9

According to a new App Store page, the mobile version of Final Fantasy XV will launch next Friday. The Pocket Edition includes the full story told across 10 chapters, the first two being free.

Final Fantasy Awakening official English release coming to Asia and Australasia

In an official press release, Hong Kong-based game publisher Oasis Games announced that they have officially licensed the Perfect Worlds-developed mobile action role-playing game Final Fantasy Awakening for an English release in New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines, India, Laos, Cambodia, and Burma in early 2018.

Originally known as Final Fantasy Type-0 Online, Final Fantasy Awakening is a successor to the defunct mobile game Final Fantasy Agito, taking place in the universe of Orience from Final Fantasy Type-0. While an English-language release has been confirmed, releases in the West and Japan remain unconfirmed.

Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia is coming to the West this January

Square Enix has surprised the western audience today by announcing that Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, will no longer be exclusive to Japanese iOS and Android smartphones by the end of this month.

Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition will release for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 alongside the Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition for Steam, Origin and Windows 10, on 6th of March 2018. The special editions feature the base game, downloadable content, and new features.

  • Expanded Map: Insomnia City Ruins – all-new side quests and enemies such as Cerberus and Omega will be available through the expanded map of the Crown City of Insomnia. Players will also take on the Rulers of Yore.
  • A fully-controllable Royal Vessel boat, expanding the world of Eos and allowing players to explore the area between Cape Caem and Altissia. Players will also be able to fish aboard the vessel and discover new fishes and dishes.
  • A new accessory that can activate the new action "Armiger Unleashed"—players will be able to unleash powerful attacks while the Armiger is summoned. After collecting all of the royal arms, players will be able to find an accessory in an unidentified part of the world, enabling access to Armiger Unleashed.
  • A new first-person camera mode, allowing players to experience the game from Noctis' perspective.
  • More than a dozen pieces of downloadable content including weapons, Regalia car skins and item sets.
  • All season pass content, including Final Fantasy XV: Episode Gladiolus, Final Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto, Final Fantasy XV: Comrades and Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ignis.
  • Archive – players can review the "Cosmogony" stories scattered throughout the world. Additional local myths and legends will also be placed in various new locations, allowing players to obtain more information about the world.

The HD remaster version of Final Fantasy XII that was released on PlayStation 4 last summer, is coming to Steam on February 1st. In addition to the improvements added to the PlayStation 4 version over the PlayStation 2 original, the Steam version will be further enhanced with new features:
