As with any wiki, the Final Fantasy Wiki has an open nature, which means that the wiki needs to define the level of coverage that should fit within its scope. There are plenty of good wiki sites for all kinds of information on games, but the content of the wiki is limited to the Final Fantasy releases what is related closely to it.
Conditions
The wiki has three tiers of scope. Below will outline what fits into which tier of scope. The conditions are:
- First-tier
- Is an officially developed release with "Final Fantasy" in its title.
- Is an officially developed release set in the same universe as another release with "Final Fantasy" in its title (such as Vagrant Story).
- Is an officially developed release that is based around an element that was birthed in the Final Fantasy series (such as Chocobo Racing).
- Any port, update, or remake of any of the releases that follow either of the previous three criteria.
- Second-tier
- A series or title developed or published by - or with - Square Co., Ltd. or Square Enix, related to the Final Fantasy universes through the inclusion of Final Fantasy icons or characters.
- Third-tier
- Coverage of notable, non-canon Final Fantasy related fan work (such as 8-Bit Theater, Dead Fantasy) as well as references and sightings in other media. Fan work implies games, music, literature, people themselves, or other such terms that are notable. For more information, see Project:Fandom
Coverage
- First-tier
The first-tier of releases within our scope get "full-coverage". This means that every aspect of the game is aimed to be covered on the wiki. Below is a list of what this includes:
- A release article. This article will focus on giving a brief overview on every part of the game.
- A series of list pages covering all aspects of characters, items, equipment, locations, abilities, enemies, and any other series of content found within the game.
- Articles covering characters, locations, abilities, summons, enemies, events, and key terms.
- Entries on recurring feature pages, and a +1 contribution towards the numerical-prerequisite for creating recurring feature pages.
- Second-tier
The second-tier of releases within our scope get limited-coverage. We do not fully cover these releases and the wiki does not claim or desire to be a respectable resource for said releases. The purpose for their presence on wiki is to instead show how the release relates to the Final Fantasy series and the releases in our scope's first-tier.
Below is a list of the content that may be found on wiki:
- A release article. This article will focus on looking at the different aspects of the game and primarily concentrate on emphasizing the links with the Final Fantasy series.
- Entries on recurring feature pages when a clear connection can be made. These appear in the "Non-Final Fantasy guest appearances" section of these articles.
- Entries on single appearance articles in "Non-Final Fantasy guest appearances" sections when there is a significant guest appearance within story or gameplay.
- Entries on single appearance articles in "Other media" when there is clear reference to a particular subject in the series (such as on a character's page whom appears or is referenced in another title in our second-tier of coverage).
- Third-tier
The third-tier is much like the second-tier, however unlike the second-tier its coverage on the wiki is based on notability instead of similarity to the Final Fantasy series.
- An article (not always the case, it may be limited to an entry on another page). This article will explain what the thing is. By nature explaining what it is should cover how it relates to the Final Fantasy series.
- Entries in "Non-Final Fantasy guest appearances" sections for official games and significant guest presence.
- Entries in "Other Media" sections, either as subheaders when there is a large amount of information, or as a sentence or two within a relevant header for the type of media (such as "Film", "Television", "Games").
- Entries in the "Other versions" section for music items as according to the Manual of Style.
Scope
Below is a list of releases in our scope. It is ordered how they should appear in articles and in disambigs. On parent pages, entries for things in releases in our first-tier of coverage go in a section labelled "Appearances". Entries for things in releases in our second-tier of coverage go in a section labelled "Other appearances". Entries for things in our third-tier of coverage go in a section labelled "Appearances in popular culture".
