Uwee hee hee hee! Welcome, editors, to the Dragon's Neck Colosseum! My name is Ultros the receptionist, and each week I'm taking bets as to who will win in a tussle between two characters from the Final Fantasy series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll, really. The Colosseum owner stuck me on this duty after Kefka was defeated, but I need the money! So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you can remain anonymous! Week 146: Behemoth v. Malboro

They were much more frightening than Malboros. With Malboro the threat of Bad Breath is omnipresent and will mess you up unless you're wearing a Ribbon. Up there with Tonberry as the scariest recurring monster in the series, for me. Swmystery 10:31, April 16, 2010 (UTC) Behemoth Kings were dangerous to start with in X, but got were no longer a threat once you had Auto-Protect and Auto-Life, not to mention that Catoblepas was relatively pathetic. Great Malboros, however, were a constant threat (1/3 chance of using Bad Breath on any given turn), and would seriously fuck you up more than you can imagine. And Malboro Menace... oh God, after he killed me the first time with instant Putrid Breath, I didn't try to fight him until Tidus could inflict around 15,000 damage per hit with the fully-powered Caladbolg (ON SHINRYU!!!!) and also had at least 150 Agility, Accuracy, Defense, Magic Defense, 100 Luck, and armor with Blindproof, Berserkproof, Sleepproof, and Silenceproof (so he could cast Esuna to get rid of other status ailments. That was just on X. Back on VII, Bad Breath be damned, I ran the hell away if I met a Malboro, and I didn't change that policy until Cloud had Ultima Weapon and Omnislash AND was ready to use it at the start of battle. VIII wasn't much better, but I was at least willing to fight them on a regular basis after I had Lionheart, Quick Shot with 100 Fast Ammo, Zell with Meteor Barret/My Final Heaven, and the GFs Eden, Bahamut, and Doomtrain. Oh, and the humanity! Don't even get me fucking started on the Malboros in IV!!! Also, they sound a lot like a cancer stick (Marlboro). Malboros on the other hand, at least in the later games can Confuse, Sleep, Silence, Blind and/or Berserk the entire party, often as their first move. At that point you just have to hope and pray some non-Berserk party membrer gets hit with an attack so you can regain control and toss Remedies. A simple protect spell will save you from a Behemoth but a Malboro can kill you before you even get to act. In X if I ever got into a fight with Malboro I would make sure one of my characters escaped first xD It's a really scary monster :S FinalFantasyAerith 09:10, April 16, 2010 (UTC) Tell me about it, whenever I was Inside Sin, I always made sure someone in my team had First Strike so I could use Flee in case I ran into a Great Malboro (obviously, I had to kill ten of them for the Monster Arena, but I made sure to wait until Tidus had First Strike on his Capture weapon and 200 or higher for Strength, Agility, Magic, Accuracy, Evasion, Defense, Magic Defense, and at least 150 Luck (so that I could hopefully nail it with a bunch of Critical Hits and using the Quick Hit ability, while I had everyone else (usually Auron and either Lulu or Rikku) run away. I only ever killed one in FFVIII because I got lucky with Odin. Luckily I got the Malboro tentacles I needed for DoomTrain. I always have as many status healing items as I can, but Malboros just tend to status rape you. Funny thing is, some games they very rarely attack you physically, so even if you do have Remedies, they rarely do any good. Week 145: Lulu v. Tifa

WINNER! Tifa 49 to 30 1/2	I can't help but find this hilarious. Yes, strong powerful women from X and VII. They could be compared other ways too, which are obvious.				WINNER!

Her Limit Break is devastating against single targets. She has a much more congenial and sunny personality. She was the first of the archetype to really capture my attention. She is the first female Monk of the series, has a pretty cool fighting style, has an awesome limit break, is cool-looking in all of her appearances, and has a good backstory and a good personality. She's friendly, warm and caring and a great person but is still really flawed with huge insecurities and worries of her own. She can take care of herself and dosen't have to act like a bitch to do so. Sorry Lulu, but I never did like you and your ugly ensemble very much. Peanut Gallery Peanut Gallery As much as i enjoyed Lulu's interesting atitude in FFX, it goes to Tifa for one reason: Power. Lulu's fury is all well and good, but you dont see it's full potential until you get Break damage limit (which required dodging 200 lightnings!). Tifa, on the other hand, is very powerful, but only if you do some certain things with her. I like the Powersoul trick: the Powersoul gets stronger the closer to dying she is, so Near-death = X2 damage; Death-sentence = X4 damage. And with Deathblow, she can deal max damage on the first disc of ff7. in fact, the ff7 speedrun currently posted on Speed Demos Archive utilizes just this strategy. This is a good, interesting fight. I just can't pick between them. But, what do you mean by "They could be compared other ways too, which are obvious"? Am I missing something here...? But one shouldn't compare chacacters based on their Limit Breaks. It is THE most unbalanced thing in the games (maybe Knights of the Round...). Look at FFVIII. Limit Breaks kill. Are the characters the best because of that? Gameplay-wise maybe, but that's not the most important thing, is it? In FFIX, Amarant is useful, but I don't use him, because I don't like him. Black Hole is pain in the ass to get, but the higher level you are, the easier it is to get it. If you try to not mash all the buttons as fast possible, and just pick only the quickenings with required charges for your desired Concurrence, you will get more damage with 9 chain combo and Luminescence, than with 25+ combo and Windburst or Cataclysm... And with regards to Quickenings, I'm not lucky enough to get Luminescence on anything resembling a regular basis, so I usually have to aim for Torrent or Ark Blast. User:Cecil the Paladin Shadow's just one of the coolest characters in VI, which is saying something considering how many characters there are. VI is also my second favorite game. One of the main reasons I like Shadow is that he doesn't really have any loyalties to the party per se, and comes and goes throughout the game. Heck, he can even die if you do it wrong. He's a deep character who's motivations are explained if you take the time to see the dream sequences (or just go to Youtube like a slacker). -Nokareon Shadow is one of the coolest characters in the series, and he's a true ninja with a ninja dog! Yuffie, on the other hand, was pretty damn useful in FFVII, working as a reliable offensive speedster. Plus, her weapon specialized on taking down enemies while underleveled, a very useful skill. That said, I did enjoy her optional scenes, especially her date scene. Really, most of her bad rep comes from Kingdom Hearts and the Compilation, where she and all other FFVII characters got pretty damn Flanderized. We know they were trained in murder and espionage, but they were probably just regular men and women who were highly trained. No Rasengan, no Doujutsu... The only things I complain about as far as concept accuracy is concerned are that ninja are the main army & samurai only exist in one country. That...makes no sense. And what people fail to realize is that Naruto draws more from the mythology of ninja than the actual history. If you look at it from that viewpoint & do some background research, it's actually really, really accurate. To quote Wiki, "In some legends, ninja could turn invisible, transform, produce clones of themselves, & control the 5 elements." Not sure about the eye thing, though, I haven't seen anything like that. In all fairness, you are correct that we don't know a lot about ninja. Wiki actually makes it a point to say that they COULD HAVE worn attire similar to Shadow's, but there's just no documented case for it. We do know some things, so that's what I'm trying to go from. For all we know, ninja could walk on water. They lived over 500 years ago and they didn't exactly leave a lot of info on their training and their abilities. We know so much about the samurai because of that reason. They were a huge part of history. I'm not really sure. Let's be honest, here, Yuffie was running up buildings, using flash bombs, & doing all kinds of crazy shit. Also, she's better with magic than Shadow & has better Limit Breaks.
