Votes for the Leviathan
- Leviathan. If only because he saved my life more times in Dissidia than Phoenix. SilverCrono05:13, February 6, 2010 (UTC)
- Leviathan is a sea serpant aka dragon and he my second favorite summon. Also water beats fire. NeoZEROX 04:03, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Phoenix is marginally more useful, but Leviathan is often a sole source of Water-elemental damage. His artwork over the series is also... amazing, especially here. 8bit 04:05, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- As anyone here will tell you, I have a massive obsession with Leviathan. Phoenix a great summon. Don't get me wrong, but the Lord of All Waters edges it for me. He's appeared in more games and he's usually a boss (at least in the older FFs) and he looks incredibly badass in FFVIII. Tsunami for the win! TheBlueDragoon 05:15, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Phoenix is cool, but there's just something about Leviathan that makes him significantly cooler. Moocowisi 05:25, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Leviathan = Pwnage. AtmaCrisis 08:05, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Leviathan is a lot stronger then Phoenix even though Bahamut is still superior, the only purpose of Phoenix is because he can revive dead allies along with damaging an opponent at the same time. The damage that Phoenix does however is insignificant to most summons and if you only have one dead character, arise is a much better choice of spell as it cost only half the MP Phoenix costs. The only time when Phoenix is actually useful is when you either have more then one character dead or you have a dead character and the opponent is weak against fire. Besides another reason that makes Leviathan more useful is that he is USUALLY the only source of strong water attacks that your party has while Phoenix can be easily replaced with a stronger fire summon or Firaga. - Mmm...an immortal creature versus the master of the oceans? My vote is for the King of the Phantom Beasts (FFIV), without any doubt. •Alfarius• 14:05, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- BlueHighwind ツ: "Let those curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up Leviathan." (Job 3:8)
- Leviathan may not have been able to heal, but his power has always been excellent (and sometimes better than Bahamut for the MP cost). I like both, and pheonix has saved me more than once, but I have to say overall I prefer to have my big watery summon to wipe out my enemies. Also all the animations have been awesome! Bond em7 14:30, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Water can easily extinguish fire. SquallisbetterthanCloud 14:51, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- "Hey look, this boss is weak to Water! OH WAIT. I don't have any water elemental spells." This is where Leviathan's usefulness shines through. Plus, if you don't suck, you won't ever have to use Phoenix. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 14:56, February 2, 2010 (UTC)

- Leviathan has my vote, though Phoenix is cool too.--StragusLore 18:54, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Leviathan has been in more games than Phoenix. Plus more unique eidolon (apart from ivalice games no alternate water summon)Balthierfan 21:22, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- As mentioned, Leviathan is a godsend during the final battles of FFIII (namely Cloud of Darkness), since Bahamut has so few castings available. For that alone, I shall salute thee, Lord of the Seas.--ClixPsi 21:51, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- If this battle were portrayed in-game literally in a Bahamut vs. Alexander fashion, Leviathan would easily douse the flame of Phoenix. Theres really no avoiding that. And sure, Phoenix is more useful in battle. But being thee only Water summon around and a powerful one, it deserves more recognition than it gets. Adelbert
- I like him better.--DarkTriforce 22:41, February 2, 2010 (UTC)

- Leviathan = Leviathan's Stomach = Ricard Highwind = Badass. I make random connections like this. The Terran Storm
- The first summon I ever saw, when I played the FFVIII demo at a friend's house. It's kinda hard to argue with that. Sol_Vent
- This was a tough one, but Leviathan has it for me. All of the reasons stated above are excellent, but when it comes right down to it, I'm a water person.CodeNameRedXIII 05:43, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

- Rinoa leonheart 16:59, February 4, 2010 (UTC) Leviathan O YEAH
- Juqni 17:07, February 4, 2010 (UTC) I've pretty much never used Phoenix so Leviathan is a pretty obvious choice. Besides he had an awesome summoning sequence in FF8.
- I have to go with Leviathan on this one. As they say, the best defense is a good offense. Plus Leviathan is so much harder to get. --Azecreth 18:57, February 4, 2010 (UTC)
- FaythOfFenrir 23:50, February 4, 2010 (UTC)
- Phoenix and the revival are far superior to Leviathan's damage which is often outclassed by Bahamut. But Leviathan is also responsible for making my darling Rydia the beauty she is today, and he's in second, so I choose him. Doreiku Kuroofangu

- Levi is very useful considering water element is not common in most games (is that why they took him out in X?). Phoenix did save me a couple of times in VIII and IX (take that you big blue bad plot device), but Levi has all the good junctions. CheeseNinja 05:11, February 6, 2010 (UTC)

- I like the water element better, so Leviathan FTW.
- I actually had to think about this for some time. But...I'll go for Leviathan. I've developed a strange love for him during the last few years...
- Water is a more unique element in a Final Fantasy game. 110.33.202.212 08:41, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Aaaaah, this one hurts!! My two very most beloved Eidolons. They both are quite powerful, but most of all, they both are ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT! But I'll go with Leviathan, because I like Water most...but really, as far as I'm concerned, they're on equal footing.
- I think phoenix is more useful but the ff9 version of leviathan is one of the coolest summons in the entire series. Leviathan FTW!!
- I loved Leviathan's cutscene in FFVIII and he/she has always been there to beast it up!
- Leviathan's cool, and I use him far more often than I use Phoenix. Sometimes I just use him to see the summoning sequence, it's usually pretty cool. 206.248.112.231 04:08, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
- Though Phoenix is a pretty sweet mythological beast, Leviathan takes the cake in element, backstory, amount of games, and damage to MP ratio in general. Phoenix kind of falls flat...it feels forced, and I prefer Ifrit as a fire summon. 1:07, February 5, 2010 (UTC)
- Leviathan because 1.Its element is WATER. 2.Call me crazy, but in KH358/2 Days, Leviathan is my favorite keyblade.
- I vote Leviathan because he is usually the only way to use the water element. his artwork is always amazing! and he is usually powerful as hell!
- Leviathan was the first summon I ever saw in the series. It holds a special place among the summons to me.

- I've always loved both of these summons. FFIX's summons were my favourites, and since both of these were summonable, I was torn. But I decided on Phoenix, since it's so beautiful, and can be powerful. And rebirth is hot. Dan-Iota 11:21, FEb 2, 2010 (UTC)
- When I was young, Leviathan was my favorite summon. However, now, no matter the game (like FFVIII and FFIX), I barely summon it anymore. Pheonix is more useful. In FFVIII, it can revive your whole party. In FFIX, it can be used by Eiko to revive as much as three party members at once (against Ozma, this can be very useful), and it can even save you from a Game Over. - The Rood Inverse Levithan is a dragon-like summon with the reare water dmg, wihc is nice and cool, but how often do you actualy use summons? Allmost never, since they are time consuming, mana expencive and rearly that good, compared to other types of DPS. But Phoenix is one of those, that is stil usefull, since you can revive all your chars, heal and does some dmg as a bonus. FFVII's Final Attack Materia makes it a insurance you can't be without in some battles.

- Munk451 Pheonix can save you if you are down to your last party member and summon it, because everyone will be revived, while leviathan dosen't. pure and simple
- Phoenix is just awesome because it revives your party and hurts the enemy.Legend of Fantasy 20:43, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Dang, this is a good fight. But Leviathan is never the most powerful summon in the games he appears in, although he does teach some good magic in some games, but Phoenix is often very unique in its ability to revive the whole party and therefore very useful (FFVIII) as well as teaching some very unique and useful magic such as Life 3 (FFVI). I'm going with Phoenix here. -Nokareon
- A difficult fight, why do I choose Phoenix? There are several reasons: I owe it for aiding in my defeat of Omega in Final Fantasy VIII, I have fond memories of mispronouncing it's name (as 'Fa En Ix') back as a child, and overall I prefer to be brought back to life than to have an overlarged water gun at my disposal, that's not to say I don't like Leviathan; but I'll shut up now. - This is super-tough for me, since both summons are awesome, and it's a really good fight, but as my favorite color is red, my element is fire, and I'm fond of the Phoenix as a mythical creature for everything it represents, my choice is clear! StarkMaximum 00:11, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
- Something no party should be without, either this summon or its legendary feathers. - File:FFIII-nes-sage.gif Saethori (T / C) - 00:48, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
- Leviathan's feathers aren't a recurring item that allows one to circumvent inconvenient deaths. Actually, does Leviathan have feathers? No, because Leviathan's some stupid mega-snake (like this series doesn't have enough already...) Phoenix, however, is a mythical bird. (It's also a city in the United States, but that's probably unrelated.) The.DreadnoughT 02:37, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

- Good ol' Red vs Blue. Phoenix is infinitely more useful than Leviathan, and as Water has become a more common spell, Phoenix's raise mixed in with fire damage just makes him more useful. I'm a "red" gamer all the time. User:Noobking87

- Phoenix= one of m all time favorite summons that has saved me from certain death numerous times. Leviathan= moderatly powerful summon. Yeah Phoenix rocks. Cyice Wings
- Phoenix gets points for reviving. It's saved me more times than I can count, lol. Oglop Master
- This is a tough decision, I loved both summons throughout the series, but Phoenix gets the vote for this one for its utility. In FF6, phoenix had one of the best curative spells (Life3!). In FF7, final attack=phoenix can make your party invulnerable as long as you have MP. In FF8, phoenix saved me once in the final form ultimecia battle. The same applies to various other FF games as well. Anyways, you cannot imagine a Final Fantasy game without phoenix down! Aquamarine39

- I've not played as these, but reading about them makes me like phoenix better.
- Really though decision, but I think I'll choose Phoenix.
- Phoenix, better, better.
- love it :D phoenix is the best
- I do prefer Phoenix. Reviviing my party members is slightly more important to me when you can always have someone in your party casting a water spell (sure, you can have a white mage revive the party or just use items, but Phoenix still retains a novel use.)
- I'll always vote for water over fire, red over blue, and a bird over a fish.

- Why not? It's an opinion poll. Hamfruitcake 09 12:28, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Well, I think a vote is more interesting if it is in the shape of an argument, with clear and logical reasons. But those votes are completely contradictory. Is it fire that beats water, or water that beats fire? Both. It depends. That's why I don't really like seeing that... Of course, deep down, it's a poll, so I vote for Leviathan 'cause I prefer Leviathan are alright too. KujaRhapsodos 01:06, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
- How does fire even beat water? I can understand the confusion as to whether or not fire beats ice (fire melts ice, which turns to water, which douses fire), but when it comes to water and fire, water is pretty much guaranteed to be the stronger. Does fire's heat evaporate water or something? StarkMaximum 01:11, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
- Put a big enough fire, and no amount of water will extinguish it. The energy the fire releases is so great, even H2O's incredible «capacité thermique» (4,16 kJ/(kg*°C)) doesn't save it from being instantly vaporized (chemistry for the win!). Also, firefighters sometimes have the hardest time putting a fire out, because it's simply too hot: the fire is self-generating. I mean, its own heat kind of feeds itself. Take a bushfire for example. They can last for weeks. That's why I say it depends. Enough of one beats the other. KujaRhapsodos 13:23, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
- Fire is self-generating? It's own heat feeds itself? Err... no. To keep burning, it needs fuel. Fire cannot be sustained without fuel. That's why all fires eventually go out. In your bushfire example, the wood from the trees is the fuel, and the winds push it onto more trees, fueling the fire even more. Once there is no wood left, it goes out. Granted, a little heat is required to get the energy out of the fuel, but it is still not self-generating. (Physics for the win!) Jeppo (Talk | contribs) 17:19, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
- XD. I just meant the shear energy possessed by the bushfire makes up for anything (water), except, of course, lack of fuel. It's so hot, anything combustible just instantly catches on fire, then feeding the larger fire. I know, the wording was weird.... (It would be so great having an eternal flame, infinite energy for everyone! Dangerous too, but...)KujaRhapsodos 23:41, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
I think it'd be pretty cool if they made a FF where the main characters were the summons themselves. I'd so love to be walking around going "I'm Ifrit yo!" Modedan 12:47, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
The closest thing we have to that is IV and VI where we had a few NCPs of the summon species. Exdeath64 16:45, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
These are my two favorite summons, mostly because they aren't the super-powered, super-popular Bahamuts and Odins that exist throughout the series, or the very common Shivas and Ifrits. Although those summons are awesome, Leviathan and Phoenix are uncommon, and require a greater strategy for use (the rarity of water spells or the death of your party members). Frankly, they're a treat when put into a game, and sorely missed when excluded. And you can tell that Square-Enix goes the extra mile to make their animations spectacular whenever they do show up.CodeNameRedXIII 05:56, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Quite a close fight as things stand...33.5 to 36.5, if I understand the scoring right. I think Phoenix will just about edge it. Swmystery 21:40, February 4, 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, true. But, don't forget about the "Margin of 10%" rule. If a fight in the DNC does not win by greater than a margin of 10%, then the fight is declared as a tie. As of this comment (and based on your count), Leviathan has about 48% of the total votes, meaning he might squeeze out a default tie.CodeNameRedXIII 02:49, February 5, 2010 (UTC)
