Uwee hee hee hee! Welcome, editors, to the Dragon's Neck Colosseum! My name is Ultros the receptionist, and I'm taking bets as to who will win in a tussle between two characters from the Final Fantasy series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll, really. The Colosseum owner stuck me on this duty after Kefka was defeated, but I need the money! So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you can remain anonymous!

DNC Moderators

The DNC is run by committee. If you have any questions regarding DNC rules, please contact one of the following people: Deadlyslashsword, ScatheMote, and Jimcloud. TacticAngel will also help in areas of policy or if somehow all other members of the committee are unavailable. The committee members will take care of changing the fights, archiving older fights, and maintaining the nominations page. Please do not change the format of this page or change the fight without permission.

The Rules, Briefly

Functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or whom you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that week. Failure to comply with these rules will likely result in your vote being removed up to being banned from participating in future fights.

  • You may vote only once.
  • If you are a user, please include your vote in the user section. If you are not logged in when you vote as a user, your vote will be removed.
  • If you are not a user, please include your vote in the anonymous section.
  • To vote, type the following "#~~~~", afterward including any reasons for voting you may wish to include. You are required to leave this whether you are logged in or anonymous. If you do not sign and timestamp your vote, it will be removed.
  • Add your votes to the bottom of the list. Please do not post anything obnoxious and/or extraordinarily lengthy or it will be removed. Lengthy votes will be moved to the peanut gallery, whereas obnoxious votes can be removed if two thirds of the panel agree upon it.
  • If you wish to comment on the fight, please leave your remarks in the peanut gallery. You are expected to conduct yourself with courtesy. Comments must relate to the fight at hand.
  • Any failure to adhere to these rules will result in your vote(s) being removed.

Last Man Standing

Last Man Standing is a spinoff of the original Dragon's Neck Colosseum. It is a fight between the previous victor of Last Man Standing and victor of the previous DNC fight. It occurs every other week; in other terms, it happens when the normal DNC fights are not going on. It has the same rules as the normal fights, with a few exceptions:

  • If the two opponents tie, the both characters will be retired, and two new fighters will appear.
  • If a character wins 5 Last Man Standing fights in a row, he or she will be retired from LMS and two new battlers will vie for the coveted champion spot.
  • Sometimes a previous Last Man Standing champion may be revived to fight against the current champion. This will happen if the previous DNC winner is incompatible with LMS (i.e. if the previous winner was a game mechanic, a summon, or an enemy) or for special celebrations.

Week 250: BAD FIGHT WEEK! Four quality* fights!

DSS's Fight: Cloud Strife v. Ultimecia

Cloud - 012 CG
Dnc v
Ultimecia
VICTOR
?????
DSS's comment: I've seen more than a few fans claim that Squall and Sephiroth would have matched up better as far as hero vs. villain go, as both are dark and brooding and have a penchant for leather and emotional problems. But this fight isn't about them, this fight is about who would be left over when the two bad boys realize they're a much better match for one another. So who will emerge victorious in this battle of irrelevancy? VICTOR

Jimcloud's Fight: Jabbos v. Tenzen

Jabbos FFXI Ikeda Art

Jimcloud's comment: One of these characters became enamored with a race of "monsters", and was ostracized from his people for his attempts at humanizing them. Scathe's Fight: Strago Magus v. Umaro

Umaro Chibi 4
VICTOR
?????
Scathe's comment: Most battles are about who is stronger. This is not one of those battles. Indeed, this battle is the exact opposite: it is a showdown between the two weakest characters in Final Fantasy VI. But whose weakness will lead them to a pitiful victory? Will Strago actually managed to pull his weight for once? Will Umaro actually do anything but attack? The answer is probably no. VICTOR

We've taken the liberty of removing any image intruding on this fight. Anyway, this is a fight about character development…and hair. Terra lets down her hair after triumphantly defeating Kefka while Garnet cuts hers and learns how to cope with tragedy. Both are memorable scenes, but which hair was more memorable? Who will be the last hair standing? VICTOR

Votes for Terra's Hair

  1. I'm against Garnet cutting her hair, she was so cute with it long and she ruining it by cutting it off! Garnet I like you and you butt is pretty soft but cutting off your hair made me sad. 3. Garnet's hair cut symbolizes her character growth, but in the same manner Terra letting her hair down symbolizes her newfound freedom in a world where she doesn't have to fear magic, Kefka's or her own. What petition? Project Crystallis? C A T U S E 17:37, May 19, 2013 (UTC)

Operation Suzaku, actually.  < Kamikaze Pardee > 17:42, May 19, 2013 (UTC)
Mm. I'm not a big fan of Operation Suzaku because, while their end goal is indeed great, their means are ... eh. For example, "As a first “physical contact” with Square Enix, Operation Suzaku will send them 10,000 pennies as soon as the petition reach 10,000 signatures. This way, they won’t be able to ignore the operation and will know that a high demand exists." - that won't show anything (10,000 isn't enough for a huge game like Type-0 to profit off of, iirc) and will just make the secretary who opens that box have a very bad day. C A T U S E 17:48, May 19, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah I found that part a little odd. I think that whole penny thing was done a little while ago actually, but there are a few other things they do to let Square know about the want for Type-0 outside of Japan. But it doesn't hurt to just sign the petition, which literally takes only a minute or two.  < Kamikaze Pardee > 17:53, May 19, 2013 (UTC)
Is there a link for this petition? and is there a way to get them to make the content of other games the same everywhere, and not just for certain regions? --Pzykosiz (talk) 23:56, May 19, 2013 (UTC)
Square-Enix will just laugh at the petition and use the pennies to make XIII-4. Hundred-dollar budget? Why not. Emperor-PSPFieldMATEUS 00:20, May 20, 2013 (UTC)
Here's the link to the petition itself and here is a link to the Operation Suzaku site.  < Kamikaze Pardee > 00:32, May 20, 2013 (UTC)

Out of curiousity, how do the folks voting for Ace know him? Did they play the Japanese version of the game, read the novels, or just read about him on the wiki?SlamShuffle 19:27, May 22, 2013 (UTC)

It's obvious they did one or all of those things. It's just like any other time people vote for a character they stated they don't know about. Don't forget not every vote for someone is a vote FOR them as it is a spite vote against the other.--AnonyMan (talk) 22:24, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
Well, guess I'm just weird then. I voted for the card-themed name. King of Noobs 01:06, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
I'm actually watched the walkthrough...with my mediocre knowledge of Japanese, I was able to know him ;)--Nur Fadzila (talk) 08:44, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
@Anonyman - I'm assuming your first sentence is sarcastic, because otherwise I don't get how it matches up with the following two. While I'm not surprised some of the votes for Ace are for appearance (e.g. Cat) or are really votes against Setzer (e.g. DSS), some of the comments (e.g. Nur) indicate familiarity with Ace. Since the game hasn't been released outside of Japan, I was wondering which alternative medium they had encountered him through. And if they voted for him without knowing a lot about him, that's fine too. SlamShuffle 20:10, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
I honestly wasn't being sarcastic. Then again, I probably shouldn't have used the word "obvious" as that's more often than not a sign of sarcasm in text. But yeah, DNC votes can just lack all basis of sense in the choice. Loll.--AnonyMan (talk) 23:19, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I must have misunderstood you. I thought in the first sentence you were saying people DID know him through one of the choices I gave, and in the second, you were saying that they DIDN'T know him. But after reading it again, maybe you meant those were substitutes for knowing him through the game? Anyway, don't want to make a big deal, since I was just trying to find out which method (if any) people used to learn about Ace. SlamShuffle 20:21, May 24, 2013 (UTC)
My vote was anti-Setzer? lolwat? - +DeadlySlashSword+ 02:34, May 24, 2013 (UTC)
Got mixed up by the 'shadow realm' comment. Given anonyman's comment about spite votes, yours was the closest to an anti-Setzer vote I could see. My mistake. SlamShuffle 20:21, May 24, 2013 (UTC)
Nope, it was just playing on the YGO theme of the fight that seems to have been lost on most people :s To answer your question, I think a few of the pro-Ace voters went to that side because we wish we had Type-0, but ultimately, vote rationale really doesn't matter unless it's obnoxious. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 23:37, May 24, 2013 (UTC)
Ace could have won this fight if Type-0 has been localized. Monterossa (talk) 10:03, May 24, 2013 (UTC)

While this is turning out to be a bit of a landslide, I would like to say it's good that another game is getting represented. There are a lot of the games which get largely ignored (some for good reason, but others not so much) --Pzykosiz (talk) 03:47, May 25, 2013 (UTC)
