My name is Ultros the receptionist, and I'm taking bets as to who will win in a tussle between two characters from the Final Fantasy series! The winner gets, well, nothing. Cecil, the three time champion of Last Man Standing, faces off against his best friend, Kain. Can Kain dethrone Cecil's position as champion? Or will Kain be Cecil's fourth victim? Who will be the Last Man Standing?
Votes for Cecil
Agh!, too hard to choose, i like them both.TheNemesisx 01:53, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
Kain is kinda a little bitch. Also Cecil is the more useful party member. ----BlueHighwindツ 03:04, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
Kain got the last blow with one HP on Zeromus with a Jump... but Cecil fought and won against Odin, surviving a few Zantetsuken attacks... hard to choose, but I'm giving the edge to Cecil. But only just. Dogurasu 03:22, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
Placing my vote here because Cecil's the one I like to play more in 012. Now if it was vs. Golbez... King of Noobs 05:11, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
He's a more dynamic character than Fang. ClixPsi 05:18, January 24, 2012 (UTC)
This vote is not long for this world. Armageddon11! 15:52, January 24, 2012 (UTC)
Would you not all be confused if i didn't vote for kain? Kaintheflaminglancer 16:43, January 24, 2012 (UTC)
Is this meant to be a competition? Looks more like a faceroll to me. ZaFlareStar 20:28, 24th January, 2012 (GMT+2)
Uh...hmm. I never understood people's absurd hard-on for Kain, or why they're convinced he's SUCH a BADASS, he's not. He's okay. But Fang has it worse because XIII has a terrible cast and she's no exception. She's like the only dragoon I would pick Kain over.AnonyMan 20:44, January 24, 2012 (UTC)
As useful as Fang was in FFXIII battles, Kain is a better character. His repeated betrayals, and failure to join the party after Zeromus is defeated, really show his character development. Plus I used him to kill the weaker version of Feral Chaos in Duodecium. (haven't beat the stronger one... yet.) On the other hand, I found Fang's character somewhat lacking in depth. Also her survival, along with Vanille's was questionable at the end of ff13. Long story short, I think Kain is the superior character. --Time Master 21:33, January 24, 2012 (UTC)
I'll go with Kain, mostly because I never played FFXIII, but also because I loved FFIV--Xabryn 21:48, January 24, 2012 (UTC)
SomeDudE X 09:29, February 15, 2012 (UTC) I just love how monotone his voice is.
r u kidding me brah LC 13:57, February 13, 2012 (UTC)
Fang allies with Bahamut; Kain slays Bahamut, Wyvern/Dark Bahamut, and Lunar Bahamut. Fang can perform Highwind as a Full ATB Skill, once she learns how; Kain IS Highwind and can Jump on command. Fang uses bladed staves that all upgrade into Kain's Lance; Kain is that namesake, and his ultimate weapon can strike down even Brachioraidos. In short, no contest. Dogurasu 01:20, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
Kain looks and plays epically in Dissidia, not to mention he doesn't turn into a weird-looking tiger at the end of the game. :/ Tidus357 02:20, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
Ujyl 06:14, February 15, 2012 (UTC) Kain is a Dragoon, Fang (terrible name btw) is just sorta like a dragoon, plus anything or anyone that comes from the same place as Vanille is highly frowned upon. Plus plus, anyone who likes XIII are people who've never played any other Final fantasy.
Kain has a better developed character. Conflicted hero and secondary antagonist, torn between his love for Rosa and his loyalty to his best friend Cecil, and has a cool ending atop Mount Ordeals. 11:02, February 15, 2012 (UTC)
Helmet over scruffy hair every day.Ultimecia82 02:05, February 18, 2012 (UTC)
Cue fangirl drool...I love how Kain's hard and sarcastic exterior hide a quite frail side to him that is just adorable. Someone needs to just give the man a hug. *Holds out arms hopefully* Tia-Lewise 21:16, February 18, 2012 (UTC)
Hard to decide but Kain`s got cooler armor.VentusFreak 13:20, February 19, 2012 (UTC)
Kain all the way! Not only is he a badass, but he looks the part too!FairClouds9 15:20, February 19, 2012 (UTC)
Kain is a very deep character, even not being the main hero in NONE of the games he appears. And the line against Exdeath (mentioned below) it's just to epic. (oh, and he has Liam O'Brian's voice. 'nuff said.) 126.96.36.199 21:16, February 17, 2012 (UTC)
Never played XIII, and Kain is my favorite Dissidia Duodecim character. Besides, I haven't really heard that much great about XIII.--188.8.131.52 11:13, February 13, 2012 (UTC)
Just for Kain's line when he fights Exdeath in the Duodecim campaign184.108.40.206 04:27, February 15, 2012 (UTC)
Now this is an extremely tough decision for me, since I love them both. But I decided to vote for Fang, because she's one of the few ladies in the series who is made entirely out of badass. --Miyuron 17:16, January 24, 2012 (UTC)
Not only do I just really dislike Kain, I adore Fang. She's my third favorite videogame character of all time and she is the closest to a canonically gay character this series has or probably ever will have. Fang deserves love as a dragoon, a woman, and just as a badass in general. Bahamut knows best 22:38, February 13, 2012 (UTC)
He's prettier, I guess. ----BlueHighwindツ 17:17, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
While I like both, my vote goes for Cecil.CecilAxel 18:22, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
They're both good characters, but Cecil is far more outrageous~~ ZaFlareStar 20:32, 2nd February 2012, (GMT+2)
Such a hard choice! Both amazing characters but I like Cecil a bit more and I definitively prefer FF4 to FF8, but I still like FF8.Kaintheflaminglancer 21:35, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
Don't really mind Squall. He's not very cool until later in the game and he doesn't become that much better. Cecil's the same except he was okay from the start. I'll go with C-Man, 4's story wasn't all over the place and it doesn't have a shoddily developed romance.AnonyMan 22:46, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
Cecil hands down.Dissidian 23:00, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
Squall might be better in battle, but Cecil has by far the better personality. And not anywhere near as much Twilightesque romantic drivel. CATUSE 00:01, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
I don't understand the hate for Cecil. The fact that he can maintain his cool through betrayals and repeatedly forgive the actions of others (some in Mysidia never forgave him) makes him a strong character. On top of that, for combat purposes, Cecil is capable of taking on Odin alone and winning, when Odin fights back. (I've done it.) Finally, paladin into porn. Amusing and a nice twist to his otherwise holy character.Dogurasu 01:06, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
The half-lunarian paladin versus the guy with a gunblade who I must admit I know nothing about, outside of Dissidia? I would say Cecil would win. He seems to be far more powerful, and looks cooler. He also appears in the superior game series. Shade.Usher 01:53, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
Cecil easily. Also TAY didn't SPIT on his redemption, spoilers. The creator brought back his darkness, he already overcame and defeated it, how is that an "apiphany" that he shouldn't have let it go?? Another thing is that people say that Cecil gets no more development after Mt. Ordeals. WRONG. PLAY THE GAME. He gets development in the form of Golbez, FuSoYa and his heritage ALL the way to the end of the game with his farewell to Golbez. So that's crap when people say that he only develops during the first half of the game.Tinks1 02:14, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
Leon's all fur coats and belts. Where's the epic armour? Sheesh, what a fashionistah. ~_~ Tidus357 01:09, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
I voted against him in the last two fights (Agrias shoulda won, though :( ). I do love Squall and I think he's one of the best characters in the series, I think it'd be cool to see Cecil win 3 times consecutively. Plus I'm curious to see his next character portrait. Free bird 03:24, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
Korean Ranger Everything Cecil does is for others. never himself. squall to selfish.
User:Ciccoslovakia Cecil proves himself as a real man, Squall is just a lonely teenager who can't fight without overpowered summons.
I like Cecil better.VentusFreak 09:25, February 6, 2012 (UTC)
Cecil took down a giant monster intent on destroying everything, Squall beat up an old lady, nuff said --Pzykosiz 23:56, February 7, 2012 (UTC)
Cecil fights with honor and has lived to know light and dark. No doubt he can defeat a school boy. A prayer for justice in Cecil's name and may the light be with him! Sombersin 13:42, February 11, 2012 (UTC)
Cecil would win hands down. You can't compare game mechanics from VIII with IV. Also for the person who said that Cecil gets more and more pathetic as IV goes on. I'd like to see you beat FFIV WITHOUT Cecil. Sure you could with Kain, Rydia, Rosa and Edge but when it comes down to it Cecil is BY FAR the best character overall to have in battle. You can't beat Zeromus with three characters at around level 60 unless Cecil and Rosa were in it. Also around level 70 Cecil and Rosa could take on Zeromus with just them two. Like I said beat IV with a three man group without Cecil and then we'll talk. Cecil is not only the best character from the game plot-wise but also best character in battle. Tl;dr, Cecil would wipe the floor with Squall's lame emo ass.220.127.116.11 23:10, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
While FAR from a FFVIII fanboy (in fact, it's one of my least favorite games of the series,) props must be given to the man who does his best for everyone while trying to do it alone. Also props for managing to remain sane while "traveling" with Bartz and Zidane. Plus, he has a cool father. King of Noobs 14:23, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
Well this has more to deal with 1. In battle Cecil is the most pathetic and often completely useless character, Squall remains balanced throughout the game where Cecil becomes more and more pathetic as the game progresses (due to his lack of any strength, defense or useful abilities). Two; while Cecil has the better personality, Squall has Laguna...nuff said User:Sutebenukun/Sutebenukun 10:27, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
Cecil would get his pansy ass kicked so ridiculously fast. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 18:14, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
Squall is easily the best fighter in ff8; especially considering the damage potential of Renzokuken: Lionheart. Squall is also a very dynamic character who undergoes great change throughout the story of ff8. Cecil changes symbolically by becoming a Paladin; but his attitude is essentially the same from the beginning. Also, Cecil may have saved the blue planet and the moon(s), but Squall saved Earth for his time period; and for THE FUTURE. --Time Master 21:19, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
FFVIII is entirely built around the development of Squall. Discs 1-3 are a character examination, and it works. Cecil, meanwhile, only gets development in the first arc. Squall is a far more interesting character. ClixPsi 22:08, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
Many people give Squall flak for being whiny and misuse of the "e-word", but he's a far deeper, better developed and more interesting character than people realize, as well as being a strong fighter. Cecil is also a strong fighter, but his path of personal redemption is heavily simplified and entirely forgotten once he becomes a Paladin, and The After Years further kinda spits on his redemption with the apiphany that he was wrong to cast off his darkness. So Squall gets my vote. Drake Clawfang (talk) 00:48, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
Squall is badass with a badass weapon. Although I like Cecil, Squall would have the upper hand in a fight. Vercery 01:36, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
Very tough choice. But I think I'll give Squall my vote. 05:25, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
RadicalDreamer15 23:46, February 4, 2012 (UTC) Squall has a great personality that is deeply developed in his game.
SomeDudE X 07:09, February 5, 2012 (UTC)Squall. Need i say more?
Don't get me wrong, I like Cecil... But I just can't dig the pally, girly looks, I'll take "brown" characters hair anyday. Razordash 23:12, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
Love the gunblade! And i like Squall a lot --96ken(Talk) 17:45, February 6, 2012 (UTC)
On pure character development (and not mechanics of gameplay) I think i preferred Squall. I found myself connecting with him much more than Cecil, and I think his reluctant nature to open up to his friends provided a central plot line for FFVIII. You're left wondering when he's going to crack open. A much better character portrayal than Cecil. Luacas 03:12, February 7, 2012 (UTC)
HotTacos7 11:04, February 7, 2012 (UTC)Lets be honest. squall may be a bit goth, but cecil... has lipstick. PURPLE lipstick. i hafta stick with squall for this one.

squall rocks Biziorek 09:10, February 8, 2012 (UTC)
Squall is the best character. He has the greatest arc, managing to recognize and reverse his personality flaws while also managing to be incredibly powerful and skilled. Squall is number one. Elleine 10:09, February 8, 2012 (UTC)

I'v personally taken this to be my responsiblity to discover who is ofically stronger. I tried to fight the last boss with just Cecil (best gear and at level 99) and died. I took Squall and screwed around with the junction system to get as close as i could to the same abilites (even the exact spells that Cecil has) and went one-on-one with the evil which and lasted untile that attack that brings you down to 1 HP and than got killed. Squall will always have my vote.188.8.131.52 22:44, February 6, 2012 (UTC)(UTC)
For all those who vote for Cecil, Squall says go talk to a wall:-)184.108.40.206 02:45, February 11, 2012 (UTC)
Squall is a much better warrior. He leads an elite military program, defeats a super-powered sorceress from the future, and like Chaos, from the original Final Fantasy, he finds a way to live forever through a time-loop, along with his friends and lady-love Rinoa. 220.127.116.11 03:52, February 11, 2012 (UTC)
I'm actually quite shocked at the current standing. Where are all you Squall fanboys/girls? King of Noobs 02:29, February 3, 2012 (UTC)

I love how Cecil just seems to be getting older as the fights go on. Maybe if he wins this one someone will have to do a fanart of him aged 50 or something. He'd still be beautiful ~ <3 Tia-Lewise 00:10, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
True, i was only just thinking earlier about what picture TA may have to use for Cecil in the next fight if he wins.TheNemesisx 00:12, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
I know this space isn't at all intended for Keltainentoukokuu's lolpinions but...eeh...I think it is very interesting to have a main character in a game like Final Fantasy through whom to explore issues of social anxiety. Something that is quite common, but not much seen in media, at least not in the form of the main protagonist in a "classic rags to riches hero story" (might be that I follow the wrong media though). Of course, there is the issue that as the player surrogate Squall must be able to communicate with people, so it is dressed as severe dislike of doing so rather than inability, but which he rationalises to himself as something he doesn't want anyway. My 2 gil.Keltainentoukokuu 04:44, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
Hehe, that's deep. Tia-Lewise 12:06, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
I was tempted to vote for Cecil simply for the fact that I like Rosa and can't stand Rinoa. But perhaps you can't choose who you fall in love with (or who the programmer decides should be your love interest). --TeaTime 04:30, February 8, 2012 (UTC)
Not to be a nag, but looking at the scores, isn't it a draw (counting anon vots as 1/2), so why does it say cecil wins?Balthierfan 21:53, February 16, 2012 (UTC)
I agree. How does Cecil win? Regardless of the anon's votes, just looking at the registered users, the margin of victory is less than 10%. --TeaTime 07:38, February 17, 2012 (UTC)
Because this is a Last Man Standing match, where we must have a winner. The draw rule is thrown out the window for these match types. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 16:10, February 17, 2012 (UTC)
