  11. There was actually character development with Quisits. With Jihl, there are very few scenes with her in them before she's offed. Besides...Jihl's a bitch. -Der Eins-Geflügeltes Engel, 2 November 2010 (08:46)

  15. A realy hard choise. I liked Jihl, but you hardly see her, don't get to fight her and she have no background. Quistis on the other hand is a PC, are one of my standard partymembers and got loads of backstory, but has a lame personality (as all of the ff8 cast, sorry), lame background and less good looks than Jihl. 6. If you follow the MM-tourney, you will surely notice me being repetitive here, but still... This is a vote for a character with a hell of a lot of potential, which sadly had to go way too early and was thus severly underused. Jihl had a great deal of potential as an antagonist, and I would have really liked to see more of her. Quistis on the other hand... Well, I do consider here a good character, but I just think Ms. Nabaat is more awesome. MirrorshardSceada 14:07, November 2, 2010 (UTC)
  7. She commands Yaag Rosch (spelling?) Yaag weilds this games incarnation of the masamune, immortal weaponn of Sephiroth so this is where my vote goes Auron-ftw

I thought TA was being lazy with the colors on the last fight, basically just switching them around from the fight prior. I now see I underestimated him. Doreiku Kuroofangu 06:05, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

I was tempted to vote for Jihl and say that it wasn't breaking the boycott because the result of this fight is so obvious that my vote would be irrelevant anyway. Then I realised that since the result's so obvious, it's another pointless fight, thus reinforcing the reasons to boycott.
P.S. Thanks for the ad, TBD :P -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 17:58, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

TA, please don't remove our comments just because they cast the DNC in a less than favourable light. You are the only person who can really do anything to change people's minds about the DNC, and removing people's comments isn't exactly going to endear you to them, ne? -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 15:22, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
Has he not established by now he doesn't care what we think or want? Doreiku Kuroofangu 16:15, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
Exceptionally so. Why do you think I'm highlighting the fact that he removed the comments, rather than just quietly restoring them? :P -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 17:29, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
I removed your comments because they had nothing to do with the fight at hand, which I have some tradition of doing. T·A·C·T·I·C·A·N·G·E·L 00:35, November 10, 2010 (UTC)
I said the fight was late and uninspried. That is definitely relative. Hamfruitcake 09 14:36, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

I read Mirrior shards reason that Jihl was high pontential gone to waste, I sort of agree with that. I like villains who toys with peoples emotions just to complete her goal. Truely a villain like character, but considering she rarely had any screen time... she had very poor development. Doesn't matter anymore, she's just another minor puppet to the Grand Schemes. Vanille have a very interesting background (wich is allmost not used) but her script is so horrible! All the FF13 characters are shells without souls. Vanille is so much a fan-service character that they had to show of here panties 1/3 of the game. As nice as they were, I feel that they have nothing to do in a FF game and it all are disrespecting the series and the fans. The Rood Inverse 15:43, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

For the record, Vanille's voice actress is an Australian native. Her accent's genuine. Gukkor 05:10, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

Issue is, there is more than one accent in Australia, and she is immitating one that is not her own. This is as bad as if I (Southern/Midwestern US) tried to immitate a New Yorker. It sounds like shit. Master Conjurer 05:27, October 22, 2010 (UTC)
Hm, good point. Why bother, though? The character's not actually Australian, and it's not as if non-Australians are going to notice if she's using the wrong regional accent. Gukkor 06:17, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

WINNER!
Wakka
28 to 14
This is all about annoyance. Others claim its all about comic relief. I think you could argue it either way, just depending on your perspective. I would probably say a little of column A and a little of column B. WINNER!

In one of the colossea on this wiki, the dictatorship is benign. The update schedule is reliable, and the proposals that the visitors support directly impact upon the choice of fights taken to the colosseum proper, rather than being added to an indescriminate list that merely "informs" the choice. Let's also say that the colosseum I'm talking about is not the DNC -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 17:37, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

Although I did support this fight in the nominations, I no longer care about it enough to vote for either side. Furthermore, it is obviously inferior to Esper Terra vs Trance Zidane, which TA jettisoned in favour of this lesser battle. Just like he did with Kain vs Jecht, as it happens. While I have never really disputed TA's authority over the DNC, the tide is turning... In fact, the tide is actually due to turn in a week's time, but who knows how long it'll actually be before it does* All in all, boycotting the DNC isn't an altogether bad idea at the moment... -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 16:31, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

For the sake of keeping everyone clearly informed: BlueH has recovered Esper Terra vs Trance Zidane and put it on his userpage, and if anyone wants to boycott the DNC, Kupohunter has created a signup page. These are the two themes within the Final Fantasy series that have talky parts. Which is better. WINNER!
Melodies

Votes for Melodies[]

  1. By far. MOL of sweet, soft and the sum of all the emotion at the end of the game. EOM is the sum of Squall/Rinoa's emotions, and doesn't take anything else into account. I like both, but MOL trumps EOM by far. Likeacupcake 07:07, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
  2. Both are very good songs, but Melodies Of Life is my favourite vocal song of all time and has a lot more of a purpose to the story then Eyes On Me, especially how it has a lot of different versions and the fact that Garnet and Eiko know this song from the History of Madain Sari. This song is also the song used for Zidane and Garnet, just as how Eyes on Me is used for Squall and Rinoa. But Melodies Of Life is more then just a love song, it is also a plot device and an overall better song then Eyes On Me. Also I like FFIX better then FFVIII so really there is no competition from the start. KaiserPaladin 07:35, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

  4. This was a difficult choice for me, as both songs are great. They both have beautiful music and the lyrics to accompany them. In the end though, I decided on Melodies of Life for two reasons. First, and although I can relate to both songs, Melodies of Life's lyrics I can just relate to more and seem to fit me better, and secondly, and most importantly, after listening to both songs several times each to decide which one to choose, it was Melodies of Life that I ended up finding myself humming randomly a day later. 96.234.74.96 16:48, September 27, 2010 (UTC)
  5. Hard choice, love them both, but I'm gonna have to go with Melodies of Life, I just think it's better in both lyrics and melody.84.90.241.103 14:48, September 30, 2010 (UTC)

Ok; a lot of people are saying that MOL has little relevance to the plot, but you'll find it has just as much as EOM. To put it very simply; it's a song Garnet remembers from the Summoner Tribe, thus solidifying her connection to them. She sings it all the time to reflect her loneliness, so it is a song of solitude through the game. That's why it is sung over the ending before Zidane appears and explains that he had to come back, so he sung the song, transforming it from a song of solitude to a song to companionship. EOM comes from Laguna's and Julia failed love, and is a song of desire, specifically the desire to reunite with their loved ones, ah la the ending. It also is there to tie the two generations together. See? Neither has more plot relevance then the other. And why am I saying this? Because it seems that everyone that is voting EOM is voting because of that. I'm not saying that you should all change your vote, but I just wanted to show you that MOL has as much depth as EOM. Likeacupcake 00:34, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

Isn't this a song fight, not IX vs VIII (EoM gets my vote, but still)? Stefan-sama 00:50, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

  24. Took me a long time to make up my mind, but Balthier seems better to me. While I do like Setzer, I found his Slot-Ability annoying (I do not like relying on luck when I have other options), and his impact on the story might have been there, yes, but in my eyes, it wasn't that big. He's basically just the guy, that gives you an airship when you need one. Balthier is, on the other hand, quite a likeable character, I like his voice acting, and he seems pretty usable in battle to me, though I haven't gotten that far yet in XII. Perhaps, if I were, my vote would be different, but alas, it is as it is, and so my vote goes to the Leading Man. FFTA2-HurdySpriteMirrorshardSceada 20:10, August 22, 2010 (UTC)
  25. Even though FFVI is my second-favorite game, I just can't vote against Balthier. Someone needed to put Vaan in his place during Revenant Wings. And although Setzer is one of the better characters of FFVI, Balthier just owns everything. 8bit BlackMage 15:15, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
  26. On the one hand, I haven't played VI, so maybe I'm not entirely qualified to vote, but on the other, I already know that Balthier beats everything. So there. The Man In The Black Cape 16:29, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
  27. A tough choice made easier by using Setzer's abominable Kingdom Hearts render. Hyacynth 17:28, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

  29. He's the leading man! The leading man always wins! --Seervanne 21:07, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
  30. While I like VI better than XII, definitely Balthier. Balthier is actually charismatic, while Setzer is just a gambler who needs to kidnap his women since the death of his "true love". Balthier uses guns (which are admittedly by FF standards a bit weak; badasses use spears or swords), but Setzer uses cards, dice, and slots. Everyone hates on Cait Sith and his slots. While granted there were more options in VI, Setzer was rarely ever in my party. He wasn't useful, and he couldn't learn blue magic, like Strago or Gau, so you didn't have to use him. Pummeling Setzer with that wiffle bat in Kingdom Hearts was fun though. Yrl 14:52, August 24, 2010 (UTC)
  31. Balthier is a boss, and is lines make him such a boss. He get's my vote because he has the best personality out of just about every final fantasy character. Rykuzeath 20:11, August 24,2010 (UTC)

Balthier's awesome. He's one of the few successful "cool" characters. Usually when they try to make someone cool they just...end up with something embarrassing. He's effeminate but still manages to not come off as gay. And the dude's got the craziest sideburns! Keltainentoukokuu 03:44, August 20, 2010 (UTC)Keltainentoukokuu

I beg to differ with you, my fellow Finn. Balthier is obviously the gayest FF-character with his British accent, dandy clothes, rainbow jewelry and flirtatious finger movements. Looking gay is not the same thing as looking like a girl. It's all about the style and swagger. ;) SamSandy 16:59, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
Balthier's one of those rare characters. He doesn't mess about moping over Rasler, Dalmasca etc. He perfectly understands that he needs to stand against his father, no hesitation like many other characters in past series and best of all he's a protagonist with a British accent. (Although the villains are all Archadian too but even so.) Mog&Boko 10:15, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
@SamSandy: What the hell does a British accent have to do with being gay?
@Mog&Boko: *applauds* I second your remarks!
The thing is, both Balthier and Setzer have awesome outfits. Balthier has obviously put effort into his being very stylish, and kudos for that, but Setzer is just as stylish and awesome with a distinct couldn't care less kinda vibe. His outfit looks a little thrown together, yet is at least as great as Balthier's. Therefore Setzer must be intrinsically more stylish and awesome, evin if only by a small margin. It's an odd fight, because I didn't have to deliberate for ages over who to vote for, even though it's very close. I think it's the first fight to be like that for me :P
Also, did Setzer build the Blackjack himself? He certainly must have designed it, at the very least, seeing as it has a casino on board! Anyway, Balthier merely nicked the Strahl, so it's hardly fair to give him very much credit for the awesomeness of his airship, 'cause it's not his own. Ergo, Setzer wins on the airship point, too -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 01:47, August 22, 2010 (UTC)
Hey hey, the Strahl article says that Balthier has modified the ship so much it hardly resembles the original design. ;) Though, Nono might've had a hand in that. Keltainentoukokuu 01:53, August 22, 2010 (UTC)Keltainentoukokuu
Fair point, but Nono probably did do a load of it. By contrast, we know from a scene with VICid that Setzer does all work on the Blackjack himself; in fact, he's very insistent that nobody else mess with it! -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 02:06, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

So let's see, Balthier's lost to Zidane and now he may lose to Setzer. I daresay Balthier's really isn't as popular as we thought. Didn't he also lose to Edgar during one of the bad fight weeks?  TheBlueDragoon Dissicon ff10 Yun100:48, August 21, 2010 (UTC)

Ok, so Setzer wins on the airship point. But Balthier CLEARLY wins on the woman point. I mean, come on, what does Setzer have? Someone who passed him over for a lovesick, insecure thief? At least Balthier's is still alive, and as MAJOR bonus points, is Fran. Nokareon 03:32, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

Gotta disagree with you there. I think Fran was one of the most boring, unimaginative characters I've seen in any RPG, and I've been playing RPGs since I was three, way back in 1990. She has very little story value (compared to Ashe or Basch), her stats are extremely low all around, and she was there for sex appeal. She didn't really do much except play Balthier's wingman (or wingbunny, whatever.) Honestly, Vaan had more development than her, and that's saying something.  TheBlueDragoon Dissicon ff10 Yun104:14, August 22, 2010 (UTC)
She WAS there for sex appeal. That's pretty much the point. Heck, that's pretty much the point of Viera as a whole. Heck, that's pretty much the point of wom- err... but yeah, nobody complains about a hot actress in a movie just 'cause she didn't have "character development". Nokareon 04:21, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

I always kinda thought of her as Chewbacca and Balthier as Han Solo. If you really wanna go there, she could be Barf the mog and Balthier can be Lone Star from Spaceballs. Modedan 03:00, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
Vaan = Luke, Balthier = Han Solo, Fran = Chewbacca, Strahl = Millennium Falcon, Archadia = Empire, Dalmasca = Rebellion, Bahamut = Death Star, Ashe = Leia, Vayne = Emperor Sidious, and Gabranth of course = Darth Vader. All the more fitting because Ashe/Leia gets with Balthier/Han Solo in the end. Nokareon 03:18, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
Is it Star Wars redone? And does that make Montblanc an Ewok? Modedan 03:27, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
Moogles definitely = Ewoks. And it's definitely a Star Wars clone. There's even a video out there of the final air battle over Dalmasca dubbed with the space fight from Return of the Jedi, complete with Ondore yelling "It's a trap!" Go look up Final Fantasy 12 vs Star Wars. Of course even then it's not as much a Star Wars clone as Final Fantasy II. Nokareon 03:33, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
Lol that vid was funny. Was even better than that one where that one guy was acting like Vaan and went around his city screaming "I'm Captain Basch fon Ronsenburg!" I don't remember the name of that video but it is a bunch of guys who dress up as game icons and act out game events in real life. The "paperboy" one is my particular favorite Modedan 03:41, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
there is also a Pirates of the Caribbean parody as well. Type in "Final fantasy XII vs PotC", starring Balthier as Captain Jack Sparrow!
Are you thinking of Mega64? I think that's the Youtube user's name. XD I have it favorited. Its like like he's dressed up like Vaan and he's irritating people with the "I'm Captain Basch!" thing.  TheBlueDragoon Dissicon ff10 Yun116:59, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Good luck to both of the combatants! I'm not voting this week, seeing as I haven't played VI, so if I did vote it'd probably be a hate vote on XII, and that's not really fair to Balthier. I mean, he's not a terrible character. He was one of my favorites, for XII.(which puts him at about average with everyone else.) I didn't really like XII(I. Despise. Gambits.), but as I said, never played VI, so I shall remain neutral. Jimcloud 04:45, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

If you've played Kingdom Hearts then choose Setzer. Just do it, Balthier isn't worth mentioning once you've seen Setzer. 70.49.223.137 00:06, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
Setzer is from VI, TA just used his KH image. Likeacupcake 00:19, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
Irrelevant, even with only playing KH and not VI Setzer is a better character then Balthier. Besides, XII is one number away from XIII, and is technically the same number as X-2. Clearly it must be bad, so therefore Balthier is bad. YKProductions 04:23, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
I don't really get your logic, but then again I haven't play a lot of VI and i haven't even seen the disc of XII. Likeacupcake 07:15, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, VIII is the same number as X-2, X+2 is XII. In KH2, Setzer's part makes him into a big joke since you easily beat him up with a toy at the very beginning of the game. The rest of your reasoning is also highly flawed since XII and XIII were both amazing although I will admit to liking VI more than either of them. X-2 and VIII are also both really good. As for your one number away from argument, you do realize VI is one away from V, right? Yrl 15:26, August 24, 2010 (UTC)
you should play it :P its my first FF game and one of my favourite, awesome story, awesome characters, awesome music, and best of all: awesome villains: Ultros and kefka xD Pyarox 09:36, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
Ya, ya; I'll get to it eventually (Currently playing Crisis Core, trying to get Minevera (or what ever her name is) when I have spare time, not to mention my interest in Morrowind has resparked, so that gets a bit of attention). Likeacupcake 12:05, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
LMAO, of course my reasoning made no sense, I was joking around. I have never played XII so I just chose Setzer. YKProductions 22:28, August 24, 2010 (UTC)
This reminds me of the very first time I ever heard of X-2. My initial thought was that it meant XII, for whatever reason, and thus prompted me to wonder what had happened to XI, as I'd heard nothing about it and it seemed to therefore have been skipped. Of course, now I'm older, wiser, and better informed... and yet the question of "what the hell happened to XI?" remains valid! XD -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 22:55, August 24, 2010 (UTC)
Haha, so true, to this day I don't like how they just turned FFXI into a marketing tool instead of a game they pored their hearts in. Did Hironobu Sakaguchi have anything to do with XI? YKProductions 04:00, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
Sakaguchi was the one that launched the project. After seeing Everquest back around 1999, Sakaguchi decided Final Fantasy needed to jump online. The core of the Chrono Cross team was assigned to make a Final Fantasy MMO. Did he want it to be a numbered Final Fantasy? *shrug* No clue there, but he definitely green-lighted the project wholeheartedly.ClixPsi 16:03, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
I actually have no problem with XI in itself... I'm sure it's probably a great game. I merely object to it being in the main series. Obviously, XIV will also suffer this particular brand of disapproval from me. Anyway, my OCD in particular hates the gap on my shelf – not that all my game cases are on one shelf, I just mean that metaphorically -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 18:09, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, gotta agree with you on that, SN. Including the online games into the numbered, the main series... - That was not the best idea they ever had. But well, it's not like we can change it, so dispite not liking it, I have come to terms with it... FFTA2-HurdySpriteMirrorshardSceada 18:26, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
But, imagine if instead of making it online they had used all that time to make a normal XI. With all the time they spent it could have been more amazing :P YKProductions 21:09, August 25, 2010 (UTC)

Anybody notice how just enough of Tifa's votes for it to become a draw were deleted overnight because when I checked yesterday she was ahead by over 10 votes. I find that pretty suspicious. OwlEye 17:57, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

ya last time i checked Tifa had like 54 votes + 11 anon votes, so some Aeris fan removed alot of Tifa votes to draw it Pyarox 18:30, August 8, 2010 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure it was TA who deleted the votes dude. He's the one in charge of the DNC, and only he has the authority to remove votes. Might want to keep that in mind.  TheBlueDragoon Dissicon ff10 Yun120:36, August 8, 2010 (UTC)
we know, but why would he remove votes to make the result a draw? Pyarox 21:41, August 8, 2010 (UTC)
Probably because they may have been votes by people that made accounts just to vote, or something like that. TA most likely had his reasons. Likeacupcake 00:07, August 9, 2010 (UTC)
As I can see, most of the ones he removed were reasonable. Unregistered votes at the user section, offensive comments and things like that. RazielZero 00:11, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

I, kupo, didn't even have to think about this one. kuPoHunTer 19:29, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

Alot of the deleted votes were users and most didn't seem to say anything remotely bad. ? were they fake accounts? I'm a bit confused, what were the reasons? Is it okay to ask? --CarloGrimaldi 14:47, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

The thing is, people are talking about how the tonberry would beat a moogle in a fight. I beg to differ. If a tonberry even got near a moogle with that knife of his, an army of fanboys/fangirls would swarm the tonberry and pummel it into submission. It's almost like the moogle's own version of Karma. 2. Because when I played FFVII for the 1st time 10 years ago, I was so shocked about her death. At the time, the death of a player character in a game without game over screen, was something I never experienced before. MMLN メーマウリアン 07:53, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
  3. For being sexy without having to be buxom and in a revealing outfit. Aerith is also more useful than Tifa in battle, having Limit Breaks that heal you, make you invincible and charge up your Limit Meter, while Tifa and most other characters just do a slightly stronger attack. Doreiku Kuroofangu 10:18, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
  4. Tifa's over hyped, so to balance the plates a little, I'll go with Aerith. Likeacupcake 10:21, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
  5. They both have bland personalities and are over rated and mediocre in battle but I would rather go with the girl that sacrificed her self to save the planet rather than the one who I hate and is just liked by the males for obvious reasons. 8. I like both, but I am voting for Aerith because: 1, she actually helps you in battle, like all White Mages; 2, she looks good without having to have breast implants like some other party member; 3, She died, but still lived in a sense (try to top that Tifa); and 4, She has more votes right now. So, yeah, I think I am going to have to vote for Yuffie. :) AJtwosig 13:58, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
  9. I dislike both immensely(thanks to overzealous fans who won stop yammerin'). But Aeris is the much better character. She has a more rounded personality, she's caring, out going and has spunk. Tifa may have a cool more hands-on fighting style(pun intended) but that's all she has and she's not even as good as like Sabin or Zell. Low-cut skirt and tank top with ballistics underneath doesn't distract from the boring character. Aerith has some pretty nifty Limits(not that used 'em)AnonyMan 14:35, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

  12. I love her abilities; she would have been in my final party if she had lived. What I really like about her is that she's a White Mage, but she's the one with the more empowered personality. I use Tifa a lot in my run-throughs, but Tifa is the shy one. I'll give the edge to Aerith for standing out and being a little flirty.ClixPsi 16:03, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
  13. Tough choice for me, and I almost never use the same party twice in Final Fantasy VII, however, my vote goes to Aerith. I've always had a thing for healers (which she's more commonly portrayed as) than monks (who, while yes, kick butt {literally,} but that's about all they do.) Plus she continues to help/save the world even while dead. That get's some brownie points in the "useful party member" category. King of Noobs 16:30, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
  14. NEVER voting for the one who should be dead. Tonberry DynamiTracerTonberi
  15. This was a hard choice, but out of the fact that the Dragon's Neck Coliseum was never about teh smexies, Aeris has to win this one. I mean, she gave her life up for the whole world. Tifa may also have some good characteristics, but she's just for hotness, typical fan-wank material. YKProductions 17:58, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
  16. I like Tifa, but Aerith is much more lovely. She literally gave up here life for the world, and she helped the world even after her death. Also, one of the most awesome male protagonists of all time is her boyfriend (Zack of course) RazielZero 18:33, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

  2. I'm only going to say Aeris because she is a good healer, and if the two girls were going to fight, then Aeris has the whole of the Lifestream on her side (seeing as she is dead and all). --24.34.218.11 12:41, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

  7. Aerith's life and death are way overrated. I had people telling me they cried when Aerith died. But really she never becomes dear enough to the player that her loss has any impact to us. It's more there for shock value since characters didn't get killed off too much in those days. But my opinion on Aerith is a big, definite, "Meh". -Nokareon
  8. Tifa because I like her better and Aerith is really bad in a crisis. I mean, come on, a guy falls from god knows how high through a church roof, lands right in front of her and all she does is yell "Hello"? She does this twice!! They're probably really badly hurt. Cman2024 23:23, July 27, 2010

  12. (...where did my vote go? Re-voting...) Tifa is just about THE most useful character in FFVII, great at both Magic and Physical Attacks Uppfinnarn 16:57, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
  13. As much as I like both characters, I have to give Tifa my vote. Putting her chest aside, Tifa has always struck me as being the more mature character. And what definitely puts my vote with her is when she looks after the two kids in Advent Children, even when Cloud leaves. It was nice of Aerith to do the whole healing of Geostigma water thing, but Tifa was caring for the children's lives for that whole two year time period. Not that Aerith wouldn't have done the same if she was alive, but shelter, food, love > illness curing. Kimahri51992 17:30, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

  21. Wow, tough decision. I actually really like both characters. Tifa gets the edge though because, while Aerith has the better storyline (it's pretty epic), Tifa is much more useful because she doesn't leave the party before any difficult boss/superboss battles occur, she's physically stronger, and in VII anyone can use Cure and Esuna with the Restore and Heal materia, Yuffie has the Clear Tranquil limit break, and it's extremely easy to get the White Wind enemy skill really early on so a dedicated White Mage is kinda worthless. 33. The aforementioned physical reasons, but she is genuinely the only FF7 character I can say I actually like. (MOSt of the others are just ones I can tolerate.) She also has the potential to break 9999 damage WHEN ONLY ON LIMIT LEVEL 1. Making her technically one of the most powerful earlygame, not as if you'll even reach 9999 damage that early. 41. My vote goes to Tifa, because one, you can actually keep her for the entire game versus Aerith who dies at the end of disc 1. Why waste gil on her weapons that only sell for half the price you buy them? Two, the fact that Tifa takes care of the orphans AND puts up with Cloud's emo attitude. Three, that Aerith's death was blown way out of proportion. When I first bought FF7 I expected to be blown away by Aerith's character only to be faced with an extremely annoying and crappy character. And four, when Aeris finally got to the Lifestream she just brushed Zack off like 'whatever, loser' Poor Zack... Either way, my vote goes to Tifa, MaliciousMisery, 12:03, August 3, 2010,

This is going to be good but I do hope Aerith wins. I really like what Doreiku Kuroofangu said about Aerith being sexy without having to have large parts of the body and revealing outfits (but I'm a girl and I'm straight so that sounds creepy in my head). I am the only one who despises Tifa by the way??? Purple lightning 11:42, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

It should be good (I'm not so great at the predictions, so I'm not even going to try).(And Doreiku Kuroofangu is Drake Clawfang in case you didn't know.) I don't so much despise her, more of just annoyed of how she's portrayed; wasted potential. They have so much room to pan her out into a really good character, but they do nothing with her except put her in miniskirts, give her as many chances to show off her chest as they can, and punch one or two things before fading into the background. Likeacupcake 11:52, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
If I'm honest, i like neither that much, never used them in my party unless necessary, but I guess all of that should be channelled into the hated ones discussion.Mog&Boko 11:56, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
Tifa exists for three reasons only: (1) To add layers to Cloud's backstory (2) To ignite shipping flamewars (3) That FMV when the WEAPONs emerge from the crater (bouncy bouncy!) XD -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 14:57, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
I like Tifa, and she isn't a whore in terms of character. But let's not pretend they haven't tried to turn her into their own personal whore by milking her for all the fanservice they can. Aerith has not been so perverted (pun intended). Doreiku Kuroofangu 02:49, July 28, 2010 (UTC)
Tifa has been milked yes. But so have a lot of other FF characters She's not a bad character by any means, I just prefer the flower girl. The same way I prefer steak over vegetables. Anyway, point is, when you have too many sequels and prequels (Crisis Core: AC, DOC... You see where I'm going with this.) The characters are just being milked. Wow, milk and Tifa... Hmm, talk about a bad joke. XD  TheBlueDragoon Dissicon ff10 Yun104:55, July 28, 2010 (UTC)

What I don't like is how most of the Aeris voters think of Tifa as a big boobed whore bartender. This is not so. Now, considering FF is fantasy and from Japan, which is (in)famous for anime, a lot of characters in anime have naturally big chests. Now, one can assume Tifa is one of these; and, as a voter stated, Aerith was actually more flirtatious than Tifa. So pretty much half of the Aerith votes are m00t. =3 --SilverCrono 16:12, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

Neither girl is a "whore", that would just be a bizarre thing to say. Nothing wrong with being a flirt OR in wearing a short skirt for a bartending job. I personally find the Japanese sexualisation of an innocent young girl who is too naive to realise she is being objectified as a sex symbol(Vanille is the perfect example), much more disturbing, than making an adult woman who can appear in sexy attire and be sexy. I'm happy they didn't pedo Aeris too much in Crisis Core even if she was shown in the ultra naive and sweet and innocent role. That role just isn't natural. The teen-age Tifa also seen in Crisis Core was more fitting teen-girl character, though sadly she isn't seen much.Keltainentoukokuu 16:23, July 27, 2010 (UTC)Keltainentoukokuu
I dunno about other voters, but I certainly don't think that Tifa is a whore. However, she definitely is a big-boobed bartender. That's not opinion, dude, it's undeniable fact! XD -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 18:14, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
I don't think Tifa is a whore. She's an awesome fighter who is probably one of my favorite monks (After Sabin) but her character isn't very developed. She's there to look cute and support Cloud storywise. But I LOVE Aeris. She's a strong, well developed story character. Not only that, she is one hell of a mage, and she's cute, although I like her Crisis Core style more. >> Anyway, yeah, neither is a whore. You want to see a whore? Look at my ex girlfriend. XD  TheBlueDragoon Dissicon ff10 Yun118:35, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
Whoa now I have to step in and disagree, Tifa is very well developed I think specifically in FFVII. It's just not as obvious as Aeris who had to be developed quickly and then killed off before the end of Disc 1. Tifa, by her name, initially starts the game with all her thoughts and doubts locked away deep inside. She loves Cloud (or cares about him greatly) so much that she is willing to doubt her own memories and her own feelings to accept his deluded fantasies about his existence. By the end of the game she is willing to fight for what she believes in, specifically Cloud. The Tifa at the start of the game would not have been brave enough to stand up to Cloud and tell him how she felt, but she did under the Highwind. I think that overall Tifa's development is more realistic than other characters as it isn't so in your face and she doesn't voice every thought and emotion she has. She's very human in the way she keeps things to herself, as do we all. That's why I, as a female gamer, personally love Tifa and don't care about her (intimidating) bosoms. Damn I hate leaving walls of text -.- Hamfruitcake 09 22:28, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
The 7th ChaosEsper returns with his 7 cents.... I agree with Hamfruitcake. I find that the best character developments are the hidden ones, the kind that you think back and say "Wow she really did change." In real life people do not change on the fly, its a deep, personal process. Tifa developed alot more than Aeris I must say. I love me some Aeris and all, but she only seemed to change when the Cetra where brought up in conversation. So of course its going to be in your face. Tifa shows her reservations and her insecurities most of the time so after a while they fly by unnoticed. Again in real life we don't notice the person in front of us want to share a secret, or are depressed, etc. So in the end, Tifa really is more real. I think the Tifa haters are judging the book by its cover. ChaosEsperVII 5:48 pm August, 3, 2010

Didn't we already made that fight? To me, voting for either one (leaning towards Aeris) will end up in a flame war, so I'm out of this...again. Pikmin Master 17:33, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

I don't mind the occasional flame war. Gives my computer a warm, fuzzy feeling. As long as we don't degrade into a "super flame war" where we drop nothin' but "f-u noobs!" left and right, of course. King of Noobs 04:28, July 28, 2010 (UTC)
A flame war with proper grammar is alright to me. KujaRhapsodos 16:29, July 28, 2010 (UTC)

  29. Puh... this one is really though. Gilgamesh is awesome, he appeared in most games and his theme, Battle on the Big Bridge, is really just perfect. However, Odin was in my opinion the best summon in XIII, his summoning animation in CC was awesome, and instant kill is just... well, it just helps a real lot when your grinding. Plus - and this is, what decides it for me - Odin is my favorite god. I love the Norse mythology... - And Odins the big shot in Norse mythology. So, it is Odin for me. 1. because the "Battle at the Big Bridge" is one of my favourite tunes in the whole FF universe, and just because Gilgamesh simple kicks ass with his big collection of swords!!! MMLN メーマウリアン 23:32, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
  2. 1.Because he's hilariously awesome(That is meaning funny and entertaining loser). And #C because he shares the name with the real Gilgamesh who is too badass for words which is probably why most of his Epic tale's records are lost. Props to Odin and his Six-Legged Horse though. AnonyMan 00:15, July 9, 2010 (UTC)
  3. Odin has never been anything besides an overblown show-off, lots of MP to summon but the times you'll want to use him he never works, and most of the time for his MP cost you're better off just summoning Bahamut. Going by summon effects alone Gilgamesh is by far the superior summon, sure his effects are random but you've got a 75% chance of MASSIVE DAMAGE (I've always wanted to throw that in somewhere), while Odin's chances of success are usually around 50%. Mathematically, Gilgamesh is superior. And that's not even getting into Gilgamesh as a character rather than a summon. Doreiku Kuroofangu 01:10, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

Granted, outside of FF Odin One-Eye could kick the s*** out of some punk-ass Sumerian demigod any day of the week (especially Wednesday), but Square's Gilgamesh has Battle on the Big Bridge, old-school comic relief, and great cameos across the series while Odin has a useless signature attack. I wondered exactly how the "margin of 10%" works, so based on past results, I figured out that it's 10% of the leader's total. Since the difference here is 3.5 (which is less than 4.3), it's currently a draw -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 14:05, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Gilgamesh probably won't lose (not to quantify my poultry prior to their emergence from their shells). Even if he gets no more votes, Odin still needs 9.5 more to beat him. Otherwise, it's a draw or a Gilgy win -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 16:29, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

  2. HEY! Lizard is a derogatory term to Bangaa, jerk! And they aren't ALL about brute strength, just rely on it more than others, not their fault they can't use magic too well(Magic is overrated anyway). Being pretty doesn't make you cool. Viera are too aloof and boring compared to the Bangaa...or most of the Ivalice non-hume races. Heh, that's why they dress like they do to draw attention away from that fact. 9. This is more or less a pity vote. I've done single-race runs in the Advance and A2 with both, but I've only done a single CLASS run with Bangaa (Dragoon). Nokareon
  10. Master Monk + Unscarred + Pummel = OHKO! Master Monk + Shields = 50% Evasion = UNTOUCHABLE! Summary: Bangaas kicks ass, Bangaas are unbeatable! You can seriously solo-run almost anything with Bangaas, while Vieras are just weak - their magic is inferior to the Nu Mou, and their Physical stats are disastrously low. The Assassin + Green Mage combo can be really useful, but that's about the extent of their usefulness - Bangaas have a ton of useful combinations; Master Monk + White Monk, Trickster + Gladiator, Defender + Templar, etc... Uppfinnarn 18:51, June 30, 2010 (UTC)
  11. I highly doubt a Viera would stand a chance against a Bangaa in a drinking contest - Which definitely raises the Bangaa-fun-factor. Besides, Viera are nice to look at but that's sadly all there is about. The awesome that is Fran is sadly not enough to compensate for that. Hmmm... I've never heard of either one. Likeacupcake 04:30, June 27, 2010 (UTC)

Two of the races introduced to the Ivalice world starting in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Bangaa are your general "brawn over brain" race, with strong physical stats, though they have some surprising caster classes. Viera are your lithe, agile race with a nice balance of melee, range and spell capabilities, and their best capabilities being their naturally faster speed. Fran's an example from Final Fantasy XII, and note how she starts off with bow and white magic, representing two basic Viera classes, Archer and White Mage. There's been no real notable Bangaa, but they are generally heavy-melee classes, like Warriors and Dragoons. Remember, looks are good, but looks don't get you anywhere when something wants you dead. King of Noobs 04:54, June 27, 2010 (UTC)

As you can see I am new here but not new here (i've been voting in the anon section for a couple of years now). Does anyone else see how this is going to be a landslide having the veiras win???Purple lightning 10:55, June 27, 2010 (UTC)

Why have all the fights I've suggested been landslides? I need to seriously consider my suggestions better.  TheBlueDragoon Dissicon ff10 Yun100:04, June 28, 2010 (UTC)
TA is the chessmaster, always including landslide and/or flame war fights. :P --SilverCrono 02:44, June 29, 2010 (UTC)
Once upon a time, there was a day where I made all the decisions without any consultation from others. There were suggestions, yes, but fights like this might never make it because why bother? Some people complained because there were landslides from time to time so we changed the way we did things. This fight isn't without merit, but its pretty obvious to anyone that a fight between a fugly race of hunchback lizards from which no real FF character has ever derived would lose to a race of shapely and exotic bunny girls from which the much beloved Fran comes, especially when the demographics of the voters are heavily tilted towards youthful males 15-25. I don't know if I'd have avoided this fight, specifically--we've had worse--but there's a satisfaction in knowing that all of you are still not necessarily better decision makers than your humble servant. -- T·A·C·T·I·C·A·N·G·E·L
I'm surprised you actually replied to me TA. XD And yeah, I had a feeling that this was going to be a landslide, but I suggested it anyway. I'm a huge fan of the Ivalice games. And yeah, you're right, we HAVE had worse.  TheBlueDragoon Dissicon ff10 Yun101:39, July 1, 2010 (UTC)

I'm guessing that we can expect the Ghost of Christmas Past to vote viera. First, they're in the right-hand column. Whether his tendency to vote on that side is a coincidence resulting from which fighter is on the right is unclear... Second, he has previously expressed disgust that the honorable job of dragoon is a Bangaa job in the Tactics Advance games. Not that it's my place to predict said user's intentions :P -- Sorceror Nobody 12:19, June 27, 2010 (UTC)

Few who "leave" the wiki ever stay away completely, and a declaration of leaving generally just means ceasing significant contribution. So in other words, he's doing the "Eternally Revolving Door." How lame. Anyway, if I may interject, Baanga & Viera aren't from the "Tactics" side of FF at all. Oh, I see how it could be confusing, given the fact that the first game they appeared in was titled "Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced," but XII & the TA games really have fuck-all to do with the actual jewel that is FFT.Neo Bahamut 20:24, June 28, 2010 (UTC)

About that...why is it pretty much unanimous that Furries are weird, but that rule is apparently exempt for Viera? Entirely inapt, as the only animal quality that Viera possess is their ears, if not for the ears they'd look like normal humans more or less. And its hardly bestiality if they aren't animals. Doreiku Kuroofangu 03:35, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

I used to play SecondLife. And during my time there, I was a GM for a Final Fantasy VII RolePlay SIM who's story took place 6 years before Final Fantasy VII did. Anyways, At first, all the players had human avatars, but ultimately, we had to change the rules as more and more people came to our SIM in Furry avatars. When I left, at least 80% of the roleplaying population in the SIM played Furry characters (none of which were actually related to Final Fantasy animal-like races)... From that, I can assume that there are many FF fans who would prefer Furries over humans anyways. Fate's Chosen Hero 14:21 July 1, 2010 (UTC)

Never call a Bangaa a Lizard. They're not Lizards, they're Bangaa. Calling a Bangaa a Lizard is about the worst insult you can give one - that mistake almost got Marche killed in FFTA, and the same mistake almost got Luso killed in FFTA2. You really should change that term unless you want to get killed by a Bangaa too. Uppfinnarn 19:03, July 3, 2010 (UTC)

Votes for Bomb[]

  1. Flans die easily to the proper elemental spell in most games. Bombs on the other hand seem to explode sooner and sooner as the series progresses, to the point I end up watching them destroy themselves more than I do. Irritating little bastards, therefore more effective enemies. Doreiku Kuroofangu 02:00, June 15, 2010 (UTC)
  2. I've been KOed a few times by their sucide attack, even Game overed a few times, but never has a Flan even KOed me. Likeacupcake 02:11, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

  7. While I must agree with Sorcerer Nobodys vote that Flans would probably win in a direct fight, I still have to vote for the bombs. Why? Because it rarely ever happened to me, that a group of Flans put me in dire danger of losing the battle. Probably two or three times in some games, and never in others. Yet Bombs on the other hand have more than often managed, to coordinate their selfdestruction good enough to actually kill my party (most recent example: The Cryohedron in XIII). So I have to go with the Bombs. Oh, and on a side note: Bombs also look more like a threat to me optically ;) MirrorshardSceada 09:51, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

  2. In terms of which is cooler, better or whatever, I'd have to go for Bomb every time. So why am I voting Flan? Because in a fight, it's possible for the victim to survive Self-Destruct, but the Bomb never will. This means that if the fight isn't a draw (both die), then the Flan probably wins. This Flan is weak to Fire, but as noted in the Bomb votes by Drake, later Bombs boom sooner, so the FFXII one will probably resort to exploding rather than using Fire magic much to kill the Flan in a "normal" manner. This is a message for Lolcakes, FFVIIACCXD, and anyone else who uses arguments similar to theirs: Don't you read the bestiary entries? The dessert is named after the monster, not the other way around! -- Sorceror Nobody 19:42, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

Damn the... second... anonymous Bomb vote... I must... resist the urge... to change... my vote... based on... the compelling... MythBusters... argument... argh! -- Sorceror Nobody 11:00, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

Dunno about everyone else but can we please have a Sazh vs. Barret match soon, it's not like it's gone without support. Mog&Boko 21:13, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

If you keep asking for it in the Peanut Gallery, it'll probably get pushed back further and further. Thats what happened to Kuja versus Genesis. It got relegated to an April Fool's Day fight. Just be patient. TheBlueDragoon says: Patience is a virtue. Good things come to those who wait.  TheBlueDragoon Dissicon ff10 Yun101:12, June 16, 2010 (UTC)
TheBlueDragoon is wise. Also, before people go saying that bombs are better because they explode and majorly damage your party how come, if it's Flan vs. Bomb nobody's mentioned fire absorbing flans (or ones that absorb whatever bomb element explosion) after that, Bomb's dead, flan survives...Mog&Boko 08:16, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I have to agree with you on that, Mog&Boko. For a direct fight, we'd actually need to know more about which Bomb and which Flan we're talking about. A fire absorbing Flan would definitely murder any fire elementar Bomb, while a Flan with a weekness to fire would hardly have a chance. We just don't know enough to tell. However, isn't this what makes discussing this fight so interessting? =) MirrorshardSceada 08:46, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
It's preferable, IMO, to generalise to all variants whenever possible. In cases like this, where generalisation is not so feasible, I find it best to assume the variant pictured, in this case the FFXII ones. Of course, as stated in my vote, the fight is futile if both die, so assuming this doesn't occur, the Flan is more likely to win because sooner or later, the Bomb will kill itself :P -- Sorceror Nobody 12:38, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
So if we assume all variants are participating, then flans have an almost guaranteed win and with FF XIII, bombs require your proximity to do damage, flans have stretchy limbs...and flanitor. Shame that a lot of other people have just gone for the flashier enemy. Mog&Boko 15:31, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
Well, as I said in my vote, I went with the enemy that gave me overall more trouble. %) But all in all, it doesn't really matter, does it? For most people, this is a popularity fight anyway, so... MirrorshardSceada 16:07, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
Nahh, it doesn't really matter, I'm just getting pedantic in a desperate attempt to see flans win...I'll shut up now. Mog&Boko 09:59, June 19, 2010 (UTC)
