After Gilgamesh's stunning victory over all of existence, we return to your regularly scheduled program. The defending champion Krile now faces off against Edward. Will Krile be able to pull off a victory against the cowardly prince, or will she fall to his spooniness? Who will be the last man standing?

Votes for Krile[]

  1. Krile needs to make it all the way and become a retired champion. It will be awesome. That's really all there is to say on the matter. Jimcloud 01:15, April 2, 2012 (UTC)
  2. I love the Spoony Bard, but Krile >>>>> Edward in battle and we all know it. Cat 01:31, April 2, 2012 (UTC)

  5. I'm sorry Spoony, but you're absolutely useless in battle. No offense, though! Miyuron 10:50, April 2, 2012 (UTC)
  6. I stand by my point of saying that through Krile's veins runs the blood of an epic badass. So Edward got useful in TAY and had a pretty epic moment, I can acknowledge that. But Krile in my eyes still deserves this one. MirrorshardSceada 12:08, April 2, 2012 (UTC)
  7. Agree with above. Awesome character born from the ultimate badass. Basically do anything Edward can do but better thanks to her magic JOB powers. Didn't NEED A sequel to become legitimately useful. And it's FFV, 'nuff said.--AnonyMan 12:38, April 2, 2012 (UTC)

@Dogurasu: The solution to your statement is called "White Mage". Saves a lot of money as well! MirrorshardSceada 14:17, April 3, 2012 (UTC)

As a secondary support healer, Edward fills the role well. - +DeadlySlashSword+
@MirrorshardSceada: So, all White Mages are capable of using Life on everybody? Or Esuna on everybody? Or restore MP to the whole party? Yes, the use of multiple items can be expensive, but rather worth it when Edward hangs back at full HP, then saves the party's collective bacon when he tosses Phoenix Downs or Remedies or Ethers or X-Potions every which way. Couple this with the Economical Ring and you have a powerful healer that can conserve White Mage MP for other important spells such as Arise and Reflect. (Also, yes, Krile can use Raise/Esuna on the party without MP or items... if she wants to waste an important ability slot on one of those abilities.)
Wow, it's dead-even right now. This is more exciting than it has a right to be. AquaRake 22:39, April 5, 2012 (UTC)

  7. Gordon develops far more as a character than Edward ever did. Gordon overcomes the grief of his brother's death and his own cowardice, to rise up and command the rebel forces in tandem with Hilda to take back castle Fynn; a major blow to the imperials. In contrast, Edward was grieving a bit for Anna even in TAY, and was still frail emotionally and physically. Also, Gordon's brother Scott teamed up with other dead characters to take down the light(er) half of emperor Mateus. Anna just encouraged Edward a bit. Therefore, all evidence shows that the prince of Kashuan beats the spoony bard any day. --Time Master 17:32, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

  1. Edward never really was an asset to my party...in either version of the game. At least Gordon, for the brief time he was in my party, could be of any use. And besides that, Edward is a spoony bard. --71.181.48.123 10:33, March 26, 2012 (UTC)

Votes for Edward[]

  1. As of the latest release of Final Fantasy IV, Edward - while not an amazing character - has the potential to be devastating. His stats skyrocket at high levels, and with the Loki's Lute, he can hit any non-boss with 9,999 damage. In TAY, he is a staple for party-wide buffs and healing as well. Sure, he pines for his beloved for two decades, but that only shows his devotion. And he stands up to Kain, knowing it's suicide. Wielding a harp. Insane, but badass. Dogurasu 10:13, March 25, 2012 (UTC)
  2. He had the guts to stand up to Dark Kain in The After Years and turn his weapon against himself. That is bound to earn you respect. MirrorshardSceada 12:00, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

  9. Edward's okay. Gameplay-wise he left a lot to be desired(sequels and IV remakes aside) but he was as interesting character. They can't all be a mediocre warrior who hypnotized everyone into thinking he's so cool. Gordon's okay too all the FF2 Temps were better characters.--AnonyMan 01:33, March 26, 2012 (UTC)

I think I'm gonna have to abstain from voting in this one. I've never played II, and I've never liked to vote without having played both games so I can form a real opinion of the characters. AquaRake 18:20, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

@Jim: You can't blame that on the man himself, what with Edward having the benefit of a direct sequel. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 18:41, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

I really don't know what to tell you guys, other than the only person who can possibly be blamed for this matchup is Bluesey for making his bots so sadistic with their die rolls. Since we had nobody to put in LMS this week, we rolled to determine who would face off in the next fight. Scathe rolled one character, and I rolled the other, and the results stand before you, proof of the RNG's trolling. Well, we'll see where it goes. Jimcloud 09:34, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

I might be inclined to post a fight with more popular characters next week, but I'm kinda feeling the whole niche thing right now. Let's see where this fight takes us first though, hm? - +DeadlySlashSword+ 14:42, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

@MSS: Linaly was a descendant of Bartz, not Krile...well maybe she was, there's a 1 in 3 chance >> - +DeadlySlashSword+ 14:07, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

Judging by the fact that she displays powers that in the entire canon from FF V only Krile displayed, I think it is rather safe to assume that she indeed is her ancestor. But yeah, you're right, it has never been properly confirmed and is more just my opinion in this case and what I deem the most likely scenario MirrorshardSceada 17:08, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

Wow. I'm really surprised to see this being so even right now. I really though Krile would get destroyed, since it seems that even amongst people who actually like FFV don't seem to like her. I'm diggin' this. --AnonyMan 17:46, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

I'm shocked not just by how even the fight is but by how prolific the voters are for it -- it's already surpassed the number of votes Meteor v. Ultima got, and it's only halfway through the week (on the other hand, it was also a landslide, so less incentive to vote) Jimcloud 17:52, March 21, 2012 (UTC)
I wouldn't say it's too surprising, given that Vossler turns out to be a total sellout, that's gonna get him some serious hate --Pzykosiz 23:20, March 22, 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to Round 5 of LMS! This will be Cecil's last week in LMS, as he has reached the five-fight limit. If Cecil wins this match, two new combatants will go head to head for the title of LMS champion next week, but if Sabin emerges victorious, he will fight again as LMS champion in two weeks' time. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 05:53, March 4, 2012 (UTC)

And the discussion on how to handle LMS and updates never got any input from voters. If you regularly contribute to the DNC and have not posted yet - and I know you haven't because no one has - then get over there and offer an opinion. Doreiku Kuroofangu 20:17, March 4, 2012 (UTC)

@King of Noobs: While I do not object to the conclusion drawn, I do object to the points coming to it. Were you reading a different script than me? The impression that I received is that Edgar was the honorable one for staying, sacrificing his own freedom and desires by becoming a king, so that his brother (Sabin) could go free and pursue his dreams like he always wanted. Just a reminder for you folks, but that thing where people decide the future of the DNC with regards to Last Man Standing is still going on, so if you have something to say about how last week's LMS match went, and whether you want more matches like that, that would be the place to do it. What Catuse said. Kain does not lose a lead like that so quickly... BlitzballArtTidus357 22:42, February 26, 2012 (UTC)

I have suspicions of my own, but I'm not the person to be checking IPs and all that stuff. I don't have the first idea about that. So, I called it how it stands now, and if evidence comes in to the contrary, then we'll adjudicate accordingly. Jimcloud 23:06, February 26, 2012 (UTC)

Frequent voters are encouraged to give their opinions on the format of the DNC under the change of management here. Like many left-handed characters, Kain gets that treatment often. From our article: "Officially, Kain is considered left-handed, yet numerous illustrations depict Kain right-handed; Yoshitaka Amano's artwork features Kain holding his lance right-handed, while Kain's Nintendo DS model and his The After Years artwork also depict him this way." Another guy who gets this is Sephy. Jimcloud 03:10, February 22, 2012 (UTC)

Hmm. I thought they'd be neck and neck and stay that way, but can't say I'm really surprised with Cecil falling behind right now, even he has his detractors. Kain however almost seems to have none for some odd reason. --AnonyMan 01:13, February 22, 2012 (UTC)

Currently, we are planning to alternate the updates of the DNC with a modified Last Man Standing (the new rules have been added to the header of this page). Updates will come more frequently than before (currently, they are planned to update every Sunday, though that might be subject to change). I'd like to ask if anyone has any objections to this course of action or would like to propose alternative rules to LMS, please leave a comment here or on this forum. Thanks, and I hope you enjoy the fight! ScatheMote 23:48, February 22, 2012 (UTC)

  12. As useful as Fang was in FFXIII battles, Kain is a better character. His repeated betrayals, and failure to join the party after Zeromus is defeated, really show his character development. Plus I used him to kill the weaker version of Feral Chaos in Duodecium. (haven't beat the stronger one... yet.) On the other hand, I found Fang's character somewhat lacking in depth. Also her survival, along with Vanille's was questionable at the end of ff13. Long story short, I think Kain is the superior character. --Time Master 21:33, January 24, 2012 (UTC)

  8. Don't really mind Squall. He's not very cool until later in the game and he doesn't become that much better. Cecil's the same except he was okay from the start. I'll go with C-Man, 4's story wasn't all over the place and it doesn't have a shoddily developed romance.AnonyMan 22:46, February 2, 2012 (UTC)

  11. I don't understand the hate for Cecil. The fact that he can maintain his cool through betrayals and repeatedly forgive the actions of others (some in Mysidia never forgave him) makes him a strong character. On top of that, for combat purposes, Cecil is capable of taking on Odin alone and winning, when Odin fights back. (I've done it.) Finally, paladin into porn. Amusing and a nice twist to his otherwise holy character.Dogurasu 01:06, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
  12. The half-lunarian paladin versus the guy with a gunblade who I must admit I know nothing about, outside of Dissidia? I would say Cecil would win. He seems to be far more powerful, and looks cooler. He also appears in the superior game series. Shade.Usher 01:53, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
  13. Cecil easily. Also TAY didn't SPIT on his redemption, spoilers. The creator brought back his darkness, he already overcame and defeated it, how is that an "apiphany" that he shouldn't have let it go?? Another thing is that people say that Cecil gets no more development after Mt. Ordeals. WRONG. PLAY THE GAME. He gets development in the form of Golbez, FuSoYa and his heritage ALL the way to the end of the game with his farewell to Golbez. So that's crap when people say that he only develops during the first half of the game.Tinks1 02:14, February 3, 2012 (UTC)

  1. Cecil would win hands down. You can't compare game mechanics from VIII with IV. Also for the person who said that Cecil gets more and more pathetic as IV goes on. I'd like to see you beat FFIV WITHOUT Cecil. Sure you could with Kain, Rydia, Rosa and Edge but when it comes down to it Cecil is BY FAR the best character overall to have in battle. You can't beat Zeromus with three characters at around level 60 unless Cecil and Rosa were in it. Also around level 70 Cecil and Rosa could take on Zeromus with just them two. Like I said beat IV with a three man group without Cecil and then we'll talk. Cecil is not only the best character from the game plot-wise but also best character in battle. Tl;dr, Cecil would wipe the floor with Squall's lame emo ass.75.185.179.82 23:10, February 2, 2012 (UTC)

  8. Squall is easily the best fighter in ff8; especially considering the damage potential of Renzokuken: Lionheart. Squall is also a very dynamic character who undergoes great change throughout the story of ff8. Cecil changes symbolically by becoming a Paladin; but his attitude is essentially the same from the beginning. Also, Cecil may have saved the blue planet and the moon(s), but Squall saved Earth for his time period; and for THE FUTURE. --Time Master 21:19, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
  9. FFVIII is entirely built around the development of Squall. Discs 1-3 are a character examination, and it works. Cecil, meanwhile, only gets development in the first arc. Squall is a far more interesting character. ClixPsi 22:08, February 2, 2012 (UTC)

  11. Many people give Squall flak for being whiny and misuse of the "e-word", but he's a far deeper, better developed and more interesting character than people realize, as well as being a strong fighter. Cecil is also a strong fighter, but his path of personal redemption is heavily simplified and entirely forgotten once he becomes a Paladin, and The After Years further kinda spits on his redemption with the apiphany that he was wrong to cast off his darkness. So Squall gets my vote. Drake Clawfang (talk) 00:48, February 3, 2012 (UTC)

  19. On pure character development (and not mechanics of gameplay) I think i preferred Squall. I found myself connecting with him much more than Cecil, and I think his reluctant nature to open up to his friends provided a central plot line for FFVIII. I know this space isn't at all intended for Keltainentoukokuu's lolpinions but...eeh...I think it is very interesting to have a main character in a game like Final Fantasy through whom to explore issues of social anxiety. Something that is quite common, but not much seen in media, at least not in the form of the main protagonist in a "classic rags to riches hero story" (might be that I follow the wrong media though). Of course, there is the issue that as the player surrogate Squall must be able to communicate with people, so it is dressed as severe dislike of doing so rather than inability, but which he rationalises to himself as something he doesn't want anyway. 1. I'm voting to show my love for Tactics.--155.69.203.1 03:29, January 16, 2012 (UTC)
  2. While she gets very little character development, she's still a more versatile Paladin than Cecil, and Tactics was a great game to boot. 58.111.64.105 04:42, January 16, 2012 (UTC)
  3. 76.172.162.207 16:33, January 16, 2012 (UTC) Agrias may not have been as central to the plot of Tactics, after Delita takes Ovelia, but she definitly kicks butt. I'm voting for her because the Lucavi are a heck of a lot scarier than Zeromus. All Hail ULTIMA! MUJAJAJA
  4. 130.113.125.14 17:02, January 18, 2012 (UTC) I like them both but I'll go for the one I like a bit more.
  5. 192.168.7.1 10:10, January 20, 2012 (UTC) Agrias should be on Dissidia 012 too, as well as Ramza should have been called to the original Dissidia.
  6. Love Agrias. Wonderful character. 204.185.144.211 14:37, January 20, 2012 (UTC)

@Dogu: Nah, she doesn't stand a chance because people never played Tactics. Oh, and sign your votes this time, all ye anonymous users! :DC A T U S E01:05, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

I always felt like...Agrias has just hardly any personality. Her whole character is that she is a female knight, which is just a bit more novel than having a male knight. If she was a male knight and still said and did all the same things, no one would remember this character.Keltainentoukokuu 03:36, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

Now, let's be fair here, that's sort of calling the kettle black. Cecil's personality is basically the same as Agrias's, in that it is transparent and vaguely knightly. The only difference is that he happens to be the protagonist of his story, and he kind of has to be redeemed before he can parade around with the same attitude as her. Also, Agrias's personality is kind of novel in FFT, where she is one of like 10 named characters who will not betray or attack you in pursuit of their own goals. Jimcloud 03:49, January 16, 2012 (UTC)
I guess when I said personality I didn't mean the person's actual personality. More like when you say that...house has personality or something. I don't have any strong feelings toward Cecil, but he's alright. He's the typical knight archetype but they add some conflict in his story to bring out different sides of him.Keltainentoukokuu 03:58, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

So I was wrong. Agrias is winning after all.C A T U S E17:06, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

Ditto, I expected Cecil to dominate like he did in the last round, but its good to see that I'm one of many Agrias fans! Must there be a winner in these Last Man Standing duels? What would happen in case of a tie? Free bird 20:46, January 16, 2012 (UTC)
Probably it can only tie if the two have an exact equal amount of points in the end, and that isn't gonna happen.C A T U S E22:15, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

This is the biggest Peanut Gallery I've never seen. So I'm one of the main culprits at making it so big, but...C A T U S E22:15, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

Now that's just depressing. The DNC used to be better than this.  Armageddon11! Dissicon ff12 Gab2 23:15, January 16, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, there was one bigger back at the top of Archive XVIII (Which, curiously, is not on the template at the bottom, no idea why), which was, what, last August? And one that trounces both of them from back in April. Jimcloud 23:25, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

Ooooooh it's a tie at the moment, i was expecting this to be a landslide in Cecil's favour, well i guess it just goes to show that he was more bad arse as a Dark Knight XD.AaaaaThe Nemesisx 13:37, January 17, 2012 (UTC)

Scratch that, the tie has been broken, Cecil is winning once again.AaaaaThe Nemesisx 14:06, January 17, 2012 (UTC)

If I did my DNC math correct, it's Cecil:27 to Agrias:25. I'm amazed she's doing so well, to be perfectly honest. The Tactics series isn't as well liked as some others. King of Noobs 14:15, January 22, 2012 (UTC)

Its actually tied once again, if you count all the signed anon votes both of them come up as 29 each way, damn it people, vote for Cecil XD.AaaaaTheNemesisx 14:18, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
Actually, the anonymous votes each count as one-half a vote (last I checked); thus, Cecil is in the lead by two. Dogurasu 16:09, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
They're pretty close together, so I think they're tied by the 10% clause. C A T U S E 23:08, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
But can we have a tie under this new Last Man Standing System? ClixPsi 23:30, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
