Week 70: Locke v. Zidane[]

Locke III
Winner!!
Zidane
43½ to 33½

Zidane Amano
Zidane Amano
Had FFXII not exist, this would have been the pair that made it to the top of the thief bracket; however, they were cut-down by Balthier and Fran.

Votes for Locke[]

  1. Drake Clawfang: Ah, such a challenge, Locke and Zidane both kick ass, and Zidane grabbed Garnet's ass and helped her just in the hopes of getting a quickie. But Locke is from VI, which kicks ass, and his story with Celes and Rachel is bittersweet and tragic. I vote for the premier thief, Locke, but Zidane is awesome too.
  2. Zero (0): Gotta go with Locke. (I don't really like Zidane.)
  3. Chocotard: I absolutely refuse to vote for anything from the unholy abomination that was Final Fantasy IX. Plus, the dude has a tail.
  4. Rydiaofmist: Zidane's cool, but I still prefer Locke. Maybe it's because VI made way more of an impression on me than IX.
  5. PhysicsAPsucks: Locke is just too cool. The whole thing with the Phoenix Magicite shows how awsome he is.
  6. Ultimateria: I can say that I have played both games now, after buying IX just a few weeks ago. I am on disc 3, but I think that I haven't learned much about Zidane still, but Locke has a backstory and I just enjoy his character more. Not to mention I love Celes, being one of my favorite characters of the series, and she's his love interest! I'm so jealous...
  7. Oranejo:I kind of like both of them,(just not a lot) but I did not really care for the idea that Zidane has no reason or motivation to help people. At least I get why Locke wants to help people, although the whole Rachel thing is really creepy.
  8. Crazyswordsman: I've been slacking off. No offense to Zidane, a fine Thief, at all. Locke is just, well, he's Locke.
  9. HexedTourney
  10. Chaltier:Both are great Thief/Treasure Hunter ,but i'm a FFVI fan , so yay Locke! XD
  11. Jammi568: Anyone who doesn't look like Vaan with a tail (basically, all male protagonists before IX) gets my vote.
  12. VitoRyu: Locke.
  13. actiondan: mmmmmmm.. Locke.. never used him, unless he was selected for storyline purposes.. BUT.. still.. Locke!
  14. W0lF35: Locke, definetly. He's a "proffessional" thief, Zidane is just a kid with cleptomania :).
  15. Sora_Rainstorm: To be honest, I wasn't completely carried away with IX. I liked it, but not as much as VI. Zidane didn't really had much of an impression on me. Locke on the otherhand, was a great character. I had sympathy for him because of his past.
  16. Frozenflame77: Zidane's a thief, Locke's a treasure hunter, much cooler.
  17. Yumino
  18. SCM I'm just voting for whoever's losing
  19. Shinryu: I think that Locke looks more like a thief treasure hunter and acts like he is the main character (which he really isn't), Zidane looks more like a weird kid. Plus Locke has some nasty uses with Ultima Weapon/Valiant Knife + Gengi Glove + Master Scroll.
  20. Etch: Locke, because Zidanes a little wimp, and because his storys deeper than just being some horny monkey freak that just wants to get some ass from Garnet.
  21. Read anon vote 5. Oath to Order 19:08, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
  22. AuronKaizer: He's hilarious and has one of the best one-liners in the game. Zidane is like a Disney character - completely unrealistic. You try to work it out.
  23. MK: Locke is such a good thief, he's evolved into something better: Treasure Hunter. And he's got a normal sized head.
  24. Hydronisa: It's really hard to decide on this one. I'm going with the one whose story doesn't sound like it was taken from DragonBall Z.
  25. Shariii: Locke. Just because his sprite is cool. Oh, and because I really dislike Zidane. So here's to LOCKE! And his bandana!
  26. bartz235: Locke, and Balthier and Fran suck compared to these two.
  27. Edward:Locke, no doughts

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Lock is better because he has a deep story. I mean,Rachel...
  2. Locke the treasure hunter is way better than monkey kid Zidane!!! D:
  3. why not?
  4. Have to agree with others. Besides Locke looks more like a thief
  5. Doesn't have oversized head lol
  6. Locke is a much more interesting character then Zidane. He has a epic theme song. And has a good looking girlfriend too. Plus he has the Valiant Knife, anyone that has played VI knows the Valiant Knife is automatic win.
  7. Cmon, he's probably the best thief (rather, treasure hunter haha) in the series, both in battle and in personality! Plus, he's not some kid with a monkey tail
  8. This is Locke we're talking about here. He made treasure hunting cool and fun. And fun and cool. Thieves wouldn't be a very popular class without Locke.
  9. Locke; a man with a past. Characterwise, he's better developed, and a little more realistic than Zidaine. Combatwise, not only does he have access to magic, but his boomerangs and such offer a tactical advantage over Zidaine's Thiefswords. Top all this off with Zidaine's obvious character templates being both Locke and Edgar; let's just say a mottled copy's at a disadvantage.
  10. Locke! One of the (many) reasons VI was an awesome game, even if he did keep unusual things in the basement. And you have to love such an ardent advocate of his profession.
  11. Locke. Nuff said q:
  12. Locke kicked ass way before Zidane was ever created by garland! Rip his lungs out Locke!!
  13. The best thief in the final fantasy series.

Votes for Zidane[]

  1. LegendxMakaveli: I Vote for Zidane because he is a great character and I love his double swords. He also has a sweet tail.
  2. YoungFried: I vote for Zidane as he is more swift and nimble than Locke and could easily wipe him out in Trance mode!
  3. Adam mcduck: They're both great so I'm gonna have to go with what game they're from.
  4. BlueHighwind: My losing streak remains unbroken! Totally uncool! Anyway, Zidane is the best main character for any Final Fantasy game ever. And the best Thief. "TDickery" is what pushes him well past John Locke.
  5. ChiefKakashi 20:53, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
  6. Henryacores: Zidane is the only protagonist I can call a "Hero".
  7. LinkSlySora: Both are some of the best characters in Final Fantasy, but Zidane has so many other abilities that make him better in my opinion.
  8. Blykus 01:47, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
  9. AnonyMan: Locke is cool, and inexplicably a very popular VI character but, he's got nothing on Zidane. Who is pretty much a cooler, more monkey-like, funnier and better version of the "Treasure Hunter". He also set the bar way too high for other FF Protagonists. Only thing I didn't really dig waz his womanizing(but that was very limited) and his choice in a love interest(though with FF you can't really expect even the coolest character to have a half-decent one anyway).
  10. AleriaAs usual, going with the game I've played...
  11. HE HAS A FRICKIN' TAIL (EDIT: Chocotard you are just what your name derives from) --AzureDrake 03:57, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
  12. Faethin: Zidane is my favorite male protagonist. "You don't need a reason to help people." Locke is one of the coolest characters though.
  13. BahamutKaiser 05:12, 23 May 2008 (UTC) : I vote for Zidane simply because, in a VS, it's no competition, both are master thiefs, but even if Locke is a better thief, he simply can't match Zidanes inhuman power, Zidane is basically the equivalent of an Esper in FFVI.
  14. Mateus_the_Corrupt: I should vote for Zidane, he's my second best Thief after all...
  15. Otherarrow
  16. Otens Somehow he makes his clothes work. Also, to me he seems to be a mix of Terra and Locke. His thievery reminds me of Locke and his Trance reminds me of Terra.
  17. Dancing Daggers Ix is the first FF game I ever set eyes on, and for me Zidane is for me the protaganist who holds the most charm. Also, he has cool abilities, cool weapons, a freakin' tail... Also I liked FF IX's character-specific job system more than any other game so thar.
  18. Sora G. Strife: I believe that Zidane rocks so much harder.
  19. Lockhart: For me, this was close, but Zidane is just a little bit better.
  20. Xadren: My favourite character, go Zidane!
  21. 8bit_BlackMage: Locke is actually one of the few FFVI characters I dislike, mostly because he sucked in battle and I ditched him in favor of my lovely Ultima Celestriad trio and Edgar (Chainsaw ftw). I like his storyline, but Zidane is definetly the better of the two.
  22. Gyromite: Locke is cool and all, but his no weapon he can use can go throug hte monkey boy with the butterfly sword :D!
  23. Pikmin Master: I hate Locke, so Zidane.
  24. Zidane was smart, he only helped the princess 'cause he wanted what every guy wants-- Blackheart1991 22:37, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
  25. Cuz he's just plain awesome~ :) --Atlantima 23:03, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
  26. Chocolancer: Locke is cool, but the fact that Zidane can wield thief swords makes him much cooler =)!
  27. AJDurai - yeah
  28. TheRedMagus - I just always liked Zidane a lot more than Locke.
  29. ShadowLaguna: Locke is great and all, but I'm more fond of Zidane...so get off me you scumbag!!
  30. Hyacynth: It actually somewhat pains me to vote against Locke, but Zidane is the superior thief. As characters, I love them equally. But for more free items, you go with Zidane.
  31. Darkling692: I vote for the most underrated main character of any FF who deals 9,999 pts. of damage with a coin
  32. Genesis rhapsodos: Don't get me wrong, Locke was cool but Zidane was a total badass and I'm gonna have to go with him on this one.
  33. Drake:Like hell! Zidane is still the best damn theif in the entire series.
  34. Because Zidane can steal from enemies MULTIPLE times. That means that stealing rare items is not a boring and frustrating chore. Plus his story, personality, and usefulness in battle are far greater than Locke. Why in the Hell would I vote for Locke? --Alcaeus
  35. Zidane's the guy. The guy. You just can't beat the guy. Not to mention he's the best hero in any of the PlayStation or PS2 games thus far. --That Guy Who Loves Zidane
  36. Gold: Best mainstream series main character; simple as. Locke was good, but not Zidane-level good.
  37. VN: I like them both but Zidane is a noble thief. At least he admits it. And gotta love his double ended sword!
  38. NexKorea: Zidane is awesome!
  39. MCMLXXXIV: They're about the same in my book, but for some reason I like Zidane better.
  40. CidTheFirst: IX is the first FF game I came across so it's one of my favourites and let's face it, no thief can surpass Zidane, even Balthier or Fran.

Anonymous votes[]

  1. I vote for Zidane. FFIX is my favorite FF. It's the game that got me hooked on the franchise. And Zidane is a badass. I mean, come on, he grabbed a girl's as and didn't get the shit beat out of him for it, then managed to mix her up with another girl he was hitting on, and STILL got her in the end.
  2. Zidane is better looking than the other guy. (:
  3. Dude he has a tail. Tails own all.
  4. Rainacide - Zidane all the way, he can Trance, he's a Genome soldier, an Angel of Death & plus he's a friggin' G at gettin' Garnet/Dagger. & you can't forget his all mighty Thief Swords. His storyline & heroics are one of the best of any main protagonist of any Final Fantasy game. He is one of the more underrated ones cuhs guys like Cloud, Squall & Tidus get more popularity.
  5. Zidane's my favorite Final Fantasy hero, and he has a tail! Go tails! And he used that tail of his to get out of trouble once. It was a lot of fun playing as him. He's such a nice guy and his motto is the sweetest thing I've ever heard; 'You don't need a reason to help someone!’ Locke is cool too, but I prefer Zidane a lot more.
  6. Zidane wins totally :)
  7. Zidane gets my vote, he's in my favorite FF, is an awesome thief, great personality, and would viciously murder Locke in a fight.

Peanut Gallery[]

A Quandry: what do I do when I find a random annon vote for Locke who blatantly ignored the COMPLETELY OBVIOUS ALL-CAPS TEXT TELLING HIM NOT TO VOTE BELOW THAT LINE, and completely ruined the page format for a second? Its so clear that you would have to be blind or illiterate not to notice it. So what should be done with this idiot? Currently its Locke IP vote Number 1. Keep or remove? --BlueHighwind 23:25, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

FINALLY, a match with characters I care about. I hope the next one has Zell in it. Anyway, I'm hoping Zidane can win this one, even though VI is probably more loved...around here and Locke with it. Also to the person who said they were playing and still hasn't learned anything about Zidane, Disc 3 is the disc where you find about him.AnonyMan 02:01, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

That would be interesting, having one with Zell in it. Somthing like Zell versus Tifa. Eirwen 08:32, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Pikmin Master says: Man, another obvious-looking match. I hope the next match has people I won't expect being in the DNC.

TacticAngel: I could make something up, which would certainly be unpredictable, but I bet that wouldn't make everyone happy either.
213.105.212.129: Well, how about SeeD vs. SOLDIER? I haven't seen that paring before.
VitoRyu: Because that would basically be the same things as FF7 vs FF8 (or Cloud v. Squall, and Cloud won that), and considering 8 has lost every DNC entry to date (minus Squall v. Seifer, because both were from 8), we already know SOLDIER will win. People just don't like 8.
Plus, nobody knows how to pronounce SeeD. Is is just "Seed", or is it "See D"? Either way, I'd say its lame. Then again, SOLDIER doesn't seem to be an acronym for anything. FFVII just has a weird policy of putting random words into all caps (AVALANCHE, WEAPON). --BlueHighwind 19:36, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
I always assumed it was pronounced "seed", seeing as they're all trained at a "garden".--Lycentia 19:49, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't think the words are randomly capitolized, it just ensures that they are recognized as codenames and call signs for words which otherwise denote something else. Soldier for instance can easily be considered any combatant in Shinra, though SOLDIER is specific to a group of enhanced Shinra soldiers, avalanche and weapon could also be ambiguous if not identified with capitol letters, just consider, Weapon, and WEAPON, these can easily be misinterpreted if not distinguished this way.BahamutKaiser 19:55, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

I have to say that Locke and Zidane are wayyyy better thieves than Balthier and Fran. Balthier and Fran are cool personality-wise, but what's with long ranged weapons? (yeah i know they can use any weapons but they started off with those) You need daggers to mug people. Zidane and Locke FTW. --VN

Yeah, well, this isn't a contest of what characters are better anymore, it's become a battle of the suckses. (That's the cleverest pun I've come up with all day, and I've been up for five minutes already!) --AuronKaizer 06:36, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, i think some people should know how to differentiate "who's the better character" and "who's the better [insert job class here]". Cos I keep seeing 'reasons' why so-and-so is hated/loved that made me LOL. --VN
Well, it looks like Goku is going to win this one. Unless a slew of VI fans come in and blow the doors down. --Hydronisa

Umm...last time I played FFVI, Locke had an oversized head. In fact, it's about the same size as his whole body! Get it right people! --Alcaeus

balthier and fran could not match up to these to who are they kidding? lets see we got locke who popularized the theif class and all the other thieves listed wouldnt be there if it weren't for him, and zidane (as ridiculous as i think he looks in FMVs, in fact its almost painful for me not to laugh at how he looks) is the only main protagonist to be a thief. i still think lockes better than the rest simply because his story was very epic and being a treasure hunter was actually a big part of his storyline (i.e. finding magicite to revive Rachel) and how he was identified by other people (especially non-playable characters). His identity as a thief was nailed into his story so well that you gotta admit, he is THE thief. But zidane, superficial and horny as he is, is a respectable thief himself. balthier and fran my ass.. --Etch

Week 69: Lulu v. Edea[]

FFX Lulu Art
Winner!!
Lulu
38 to 32

FFX Lulu Art
Edea
The simmering sorceress is something of an archetype, sometimes hard to sell, but both of these magic maidens are easy on the eyes, to be sure, but which of them bests the other in a bout of black magic?

Votes for Lulu[]

  1. Edea was made Ultimecia's bitch. Turns out she's actually a nice person. Cop out. Lulu was one of the only people who wasn't a complete loser in FFX --Maverick King 00:05, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
  2. I think Lulu is a better character in terms of development and, oddly enough, I'm not referring to her boobs. What I mean is that she had a better and more drawn up background story in FFX and her mannerisms did well to keep the party in line. I suppose she was the matron of the group in FFX and it didn't hurt for her to Doublecast Ultima in an instant. Bottom line is, Lulu FTW. --Tex 06:16, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
  3. I'm just more fond of Lulu. --ShadowLaguna 20:17, 15 May 2008 (DMT+12)
  4. My vote...is here.TheSwordofDoubt 08:27, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
  5. VitoRyu: Because Voting for Edea is the same thing as voting for Ultimecia. Do we REALLY want Ultimecia to win???
  6. Dark raven
  7. Aramis: Lulu is from FFX, edea is from FFVIII. Enough said.
  8. Since the entire story of FFVIII made absolutely no sense to me, I'm gonna have to go with Lulu. I actually liked FFX, so... -RB
  9. Lockhart: Edea started off strong, but didn't finish strong, kind of like FFVII as a whole. As for Lulu, I tihnk she was one of the more interesting characters in FFX.
  10. She's pretty good. Oath to Order 14:30, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
  11. DrakemasterDrake:Always liked Lulu.
  12. ChiefKakashi 16:57, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
  13. PhoenixDew: Lulu all the way! She just rocks in general, one of my favorite black mages, if not my favorite. Plus Edea totally bombed story wise when she turned out to be just a kindly Matron. Tough decision though, cause Edea was like an inspiration for Lulu.
  14. Bartz235: I've always liked Lulu, whereas Edea was just...eh. Lulu can 1mp cost double cast Ultima!!! Lulu FTW!!!
  15. Sora_Rainstorm:Have to go with Lulu. I like Edea, but... Lulu intimidated me a little more than Edea. Lulu is my all-time favorite black mage, next to Vivi of course.
  16. ChocoJockey
  17. One MP cost, Triple Star, Break Damage and some other stuff coupled with Ultima=OVER 90,000...twice. --AzureDrake 03:42, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
  18. Mateus_the_Corrupt: When I played FFX for the second time, I just made Lulu learned Lancet, now that's more like a Black Mage than a Dragoon :P. Because of that, I should give her 1000 thumbs-ups.
  19. Actiondan: Quite liked lulu.. liked her belty dress... thats about the only reason i am voting to be honest..also had them chop sticks in her hair.. thats surely what black mages are all about.
  20. Dark Dragoon: I have to go with Lulu... i don´t really like neither her or edea but i guess she would kick edea´s ass even under ultimencia´s control...
  21. Belts aside, shes one of the few people in this game to not be solely dictated by emotions *cough*tidus*cough*. This makes her awesome in my oppinion--Superaeon35 00:49, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
  22. While I love both Edea and Lulu, I only really appreciated Edea when she was under the control of Ultimecia. I must admit, her cinematic scenes were deliciously evil. Lulu, on the other hand, was always and will continue to be dark and edgy; even after she has a kid in X-2, she keeps her edge. Additionally, I loved her cold and icy demeanor toward Tidus at the beginning of FFX.--High Summoner 01:21, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
  23. I loved Lulu's relationship with most of the characters of FFX and liked her attitude, no matter how hard i try i always end up with Lulu on the Macalania Tobbagen ride.
  24. Who cares about belts or slutty looks. I like her because of her sarcasm. I don't hate Edea but she's just...not appealing to me (in terms of personality). --VN 18 May, 2008
  25. Chocotard: Definitely Lulu. Edea was basically just a husk for Ultimecia.
  26. Leon5550 Lulu, shes hotter n shes goth!!! she gots my vote for sure!!
  27. Slayerette I just like Lulu and her awesome dolls.
  28. CaidrynThough they're both accomplished mages, Edea seemed to lose most of her personality after Ultimecia stopped possessing her, falling quickly to the background. I was a fan of Lulu's... well, darker personality in contrast to the rest of the characters. Hell she almost tied Auron for mysteriousness. Besides, in terms of power FFX had a much higher limit in stats and damage calculation, so in an all out battle, a capped Lulu beats a capped Edea a hundred times over.
  29. Zephyrus11 Lulu was one of the best characters of FFX. Her design, her voice actor, her dolls, everything about her is awesome.
  30. Gokus789 Gotta vote for my boobilious goth goddess.
  31. Shariii: Lulu. Who doesnt wanna carry a doll moogle and kick peoples arses with it? =] heh. Plus, I liked her and Wakka, and the way they were together.. nawwwrrrr.
  32. TacticAngel: Sorry BHW.

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Even though I like both of these characters, I gotta vote Lulu. Her story is better in my opinion.
  2. Edea looks stoned most of the time. She ain't got no skillz gainst Lu-x2
  3. VIII was terrible. X, had Auron AND Blitzball. Those were the only good things.
  4. Im gonna have to vote for Lulu. She was an interesting chatacter and was powerful too.
  5. Alot of you guys are saying it takes a lot to pierce Squall with an Ice Shard, but c'mon Squally was nothing, I mean I mean Vaan could take him on. Also Fury>>>>IceSpear will ever be. Someone else said that once you get another FFX character to learn Lulu's magic, she is useless. Not true. They only learned her magic, they don't have her crazy high magic stat and plus it would take FOREVER for a FFX character to COMPLETE two sphere areas.
  6. Lulu is, in my opinion, the best character from FFX and it was definately my favorite game. Lulu is able to be completely customizeable via use of the sphere grid and is, in a simple statement: FREAKIN' AWESOME!! The outfit is just an added bonus. Her attitude seems to mellow Tidus' and Rikku's overly-positive attitude out with calm, collected logic.
  7. Lulu is hotter!!!
  8. FFX was my ABSOLUTE favorite, and because of that Lulu should win. She is also a highly complex character who is truly a warm hearted soul, with the smarts and looks to match.
  9. Hot, hot, hot momma!!!! <3
  10. Lulu is by far the best character in FFX and Edea is just way to boring, Lulu all the way!!!
  11. Someone said Edea's voice was better but wait...you NEVER HEAR HER TALK!!! Lulu is by far hotter too BH. YOu say were all idiots just because we voice our opinion? Your a moron.
  12. Lulu is the hottest mage in the series, bar none!
  13. I change my vote; Edea's not a sorceress, she was just a tool. And Lulu's hot!
  14. Edea can do nothing on Lulu. Ice Strike? Lulu can blow that away with her Fury's Firaga, and burn that so-called sorceress at the same time!
  15. xiong grey 5/19/08...i have to say it is a close match i ran a couple scerios through my head and each time lulu won.her bear or what ever she has can attack as well. it serves as an amasing distraction of power. and i forgot about double cast! lulu wins...hands down!
  16. I have to say Lulu. Edea was great of course..... when she was evil. Then she pulled that whole "oh shit, what have I done" thing. Plus, Lulu was always quick and concise, and surprisingly funny at times.
  17. I like Lulu's moogle! It's cute! And I like it when she kind of bullies Wakka :)
  18. Definately Lulu! She's just plain cool really. And Edea, she seemed a bit hollow at times. She was also in the party for a pointless amount of time, when others would have benefited from the experience. Plus, Lulu has a defined personality.

Votes for Edea[]

  1. BlueHighwind: I have to be number one on this list. Nobody loves Edea more than me.
  2. Blykus 05:54, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
  3. Adam mcduck: Edea... such a wasted, great villain...
  4. More dignity and more stylish. -- N/A 06:21, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
  5. Chaltier: Edea cause Lulu is like an imitation of Edea,BH vote now for your beloved Edea!
  6. Random pick. HexedTourney
  7. SCM Definitely better
  8. SuperSeph: No way shall Edea lose to a second rate slut.
  9. Otens : I have to say I believe Edea would win. Her magic is technically unlimited (Not MP though.)
  10. Moogle Kupo: She's badass.
  11. Henryacores: She's Awesome and she's a real witch! No need for puppets, Edea is kickass by herself.
  12. Lulu has too many chastity belts. TBM
  13. Scottyboy4: I feel bad for Edea, being in FFVIII and everything.
  14. I never played VIII, but I think the belts just looks stupid on Lulu, and I thought it was a dress until I looked closer. --Oranejo 00:15, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
  15. Faethin: Her speech on Deling City... now that's rhetorics, every other speech in the FF series is utter bull.
  16. User:Yuffie2211:Edea will kick her sorry behind
  17. User:Leiber_Mage: Even though I love them both (Edea and Lulu), FFVIII was my first Final Fantasy, and I am in love with Edea more so than Lulu, even if she was possessed by Ultimecia, and the kindly Matron she truly is makes me love her even more, so my vote is for Edea, the ORIGINAL black-clad mage (and a kickass FMV)
  18. I said it about Golbez and Jenova and I'm saying it about Edea - the real villains ar the ones who do the work, not the ones who sit on their asses far away mentally ordering them around. Edea FTW. Drake Clawfang
  19. Hydronisa: Let's see, a goth with way too many belts who is really bitchy deep down inside, or, a mind-controlled Sorceress who is really kind deep down inside. I have to go with Edea, she was a better character in nearly every aspect, it's too bad you could only use her in battle for a short period of time.
  20. Aleria
  21. Zero (0): I just gotta vote for Edea because she's in FFVIII.
  22. Ultimateria: I just love her. I still can't forget the parade scene - amazing!
  23. Alcaeus: Lulu isn't a true black mage, and Edea has a personality. I think I'll go with Edea.
  24. Xadren: I don't like very much Lulu, besides Edea has a better music when she appears!
  25. Rydiaofmist: I like Edea more than Lulu, but (and I'm sure I'm in the minority here) I would actually pick Ultimecia over either of them.
  26. 8bit_BlackMage: I liked the Blizzaga scene.

Anonymous votes[]

  1. GreatBuster: Doesn't Edea have the power of like 2 or 3 Sorceresses in her? I think That's enough to steamroll little lulu.
  2. Although It was Ultimecia who provided her with power, Edea would definitly win. Lulu can cast magic 6 times at once, but Edea nearly killed Squall in 1 attack
  3. Rainacide: I gotta go with Edea from FFVIII, as much as they are both badasses & Lulu is inspired from Edea, it's Edea I choose. Her story does die down at the end but come on who the hell can shank Squall with an ice shard...Lulu had a better story but she wasn't so productive in the game for me in FFX, when other's could learn her magic, she was basically useless. But Edea's character for being playable sucked. But her being the sub-villian made the game much better ;]
  4. She's a sorceress since she was 5 years old. She then inherited Ultimecia's powers. Powerful sorcery that. When she is not being a sorceress, she's a lovely and pretty matron, more than that wimpy Lulu ~ Rinja.
  5. IndridCold: Edea is awesome. So creepy. Lulu smells funny.
  6. Yumiko: Ok's. I remember when i was little and my brother was playing FFVIII and then the scene where she pierced Squall with the Iceshard. That scared the heck out of me. Now that shows how powerfull Edea is and also how scared i was like so many years ago. ...
  7. Edea was ice cold when she was under control much better than Lulu.
  8. The only reason I played through the monstrosity that was FF8 was to find out how successful Edea was. I was dissappointed as hell when I found out Ultimecia was the mastermind.
  9. I actually prefer Lulu as a character, but Edea would absolutely cane her in a fight.
  10. Edea gets my vote, because of her low cut neckline. It suits her better than the fake looking on Lulu. Personality wise, I like them both.
  11. Edea's got that extra sass and is clearly the inspiration for Lulu
  12. It has been mentioned but the ice strike was awesome and that was essentially Edea's own power - kickass!
  13. I still like Edea more than Lulu, both when she was possessed and also when she wasn't.

Peanut Gallery[]

Both are great, to be honest, but Edea's speech in Deling City was just awesome. --Blykus 06:01, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Anyone else realize that, without trying to give a form of spoiler, Edea's magic is in a constant loop? But I'm hoping this was Edea as a villain instead of the character you get to use temporarily. -Otens

Whoever said "Voting for Edea=Voting for Ultimecia" At least Ultimecia was a good final boss, unlike FFX. --AnonyMan 13:13, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Fuck Ultimecia! All Glory to her Majesty Lady Edea! Down with the pretender whore!! --BlueHighwind 19:05, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

It's 18-17 Edea as I type this. This will be one hell of a "Black Magic Woman" slobberknocker. --Tex 01:02, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

18-18 now. <singing>Cast Firaga on me, baby... cast Blizzaga on me, baby... yes, cast Thundaga on me baby, turning my heart into stone... I need you so bad! Magic Woman I can't leave you alone!</singing> -Faethin 05:53, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

I vote for the real Edea, the kind, pretty and powerful matron, because the Ice Strike is Edea's power, not Ultimecia. ~ Rinja.

Wow. The last time I remember a fight this close was Rydia vs. Tifa. Drake Clawfang 13:42, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, great fight. --ChiefKakashi 15:58, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Too bad the random visitor vote is with Lulu. Edea might lose. Damn single edit DNC users! --BlueHighwind 21:38, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Don't worry, I'm voting for Edea. I just haven't gotten around to it. Drake Clawfang 23:06, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Did anyone notice the "Vaan could take on Squall" comment in the anonymus votes for Lulu? I couldn't help but laugh my ass off, a punk-ass like Vaan could even be beatdown by a band of Lulu's dolls, not to mention what Squall could do to him --User:Leiber_Mage

I don't know, Squall, while coo--wait..scratch that, while he eventually became cool, he isn't really special phsyically speaking other than being proficient with a weapon which has just 1 other user(and better accuracy than the resident marksman. WTF?) He and Vaan are pretty normal it's not crazy to say Vaan could take him. Gameplay wise, well that's different. Also, Vaan could step on Lulu's dolls. AnonyMan 20:18, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Am I insane or is Edea serious much hotter than Lulu? I want somebody to fight me on this, because I'm thinking that the IPs are mostly idiots. --BlueHighwind 00:37, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

The stigma of FFX is not quite as great as the stigma of FFVIII. Sadly, though, Edea is really only cool on the first disk of the game too, and after that she is kind of... blah, shut up, I don't care. Lulu never steps out of vague archetype enough to earn any significant detractors based on her character. --TacticAngel 00:41, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Good thing I can blame all faults with Edea's character on the good old line: "FFVIII sucks". Works like a charm. =) --BlueHighwind 00:45, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Minwu is the hottest wizard in the series. --Alcaeus
Agreed! --VN

Lulu IP Vote #10, I said "mostly" idiots. There are exceptions, but you are not one of them. They're called apostrophes and are often used in contractions so that "we're" does not become the verb "were". Try them sometime. --BlueHighwind 21:53, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

I don't know, I find something pretty hillarious about the "Your a moron." --TacticAngel 02:46, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

I LOL'd at someone mentioning that Edea has a voice! Hwahaha... anyways... it's true that everyone can learn magic in FFX, but still you need the key sphere thingy to have access to them. But by the time you unlock it, it's about time to face the final boss. It's not like magic can work well with bosses anyway, there's no point of unlocking. You can always choose the characters to be true to their job classes or not. Besides, I like the sphere grid system than junction. Wait a sec, I thought all FF8 characters can use magic? --VN

Yikes! This may be the closest match yet! Chocotard 19:00, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Lulu's winning by half a point. Best fight in a while. Awesome! --ChiefKakashi 01:30, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
If it weren't for Ultimecia Edea would have swept this match. Have the votes against Edea are because of that mess. Even FFVIII fans have to admit that was a terrible idea. (Once this fight is over, I will not mention that issue again for two months. I'm going cold turkey because I'm starting annoy even myself.) --BlueHighwind 01:33, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't find that that could work against her. Power corrupts and besides at least Edea's character changes. Lulu does and repeats the same thing only to get a little, little, bit happier. Also, I'm thinking that most of the people voting have not even played VIII and only played X. So they only read her character profile. Otens
"Power corrupts" is nothing but a non-historical fairy tale invented by democratic states to justify their painfully inefficient and incompetent governments. Though I will admit that even when Edea was a "good gal" and in the party she was still my favorite character. It was when she was kicked out of the plot altogether that I became REALLY FUCKING ANGRY! DAMN YOU, FFVIII!!. --BlueHighwind 21:30, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Dood, Final Fantasy VIII was full of governments who did that. Not to mention "Power Corrupts" is really just for greedy people. And Edea in fact, fought off the need as much as possible to gain so much power. Edit: Forgot my name -Otens

lol @ anonymous vote for Lulu 5 "it would take FOREVER for a FFX character to COMPLETE two sphere areas." my team, Tidus, Auron, and Yuna, have literally 95% of the grid filled out, and this is my second sweep wiping anything thats a stat that isn't +4. I'm not bragging or anything, just saying it doesn't take as long as you might think. Once you get o a certain point, sphere grid levels come far faster than the actual common drop spheres you fill them in with. Not to mention in comparison to the time I spend in some games leveling characters *cough cough disgaea cough* the amount of time that took was nothing. Total time on my FFX save: around 100 hours, I believe. Time spent on the other game mentioned leveling a _single_ character... around 240 hours. (Both times include me falling asleep while playing several times.) Caidryn 23:22, 19 May 2008 (UTC)Caidryn

Week 68: Kain Highwind v. Ricard Highwind[]

Kain Highwind menu
Winner!!
Kain Highwind
28½ to 18

Kain Highwind menu
Ricard Highwind didn't make the cut for the Magicite Madness, but he is the series very first dragoon and the very first Highwind. How does he stack up to Kain, dragoon of legend?

Votes for Kain[]

  1. I vote Kain! Final Fantasy IV is way better. -- RY
  2. Kain kicks all kinds of ass. Ricard's a classic, but Kain's a legend. Drake Clawfang
  3. I don't think so. --Crazyswordsman 04:44, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
  4. I... didn't even know who Ricard was. I had to go to his article. My vote is for Kain. --Zephyrus11 04:54, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
  5. Deh Hexed votes for Kain because the Abel's Lance is overpowered.
  6. Haven't played FFII, but I know enough to appreciate a legend when I vote for one. -- Varehemsko 11:29 8 May 2008 (GMT)
  7. One-sided. Dark raven
  8. KhakishroKain is a very cool Dragoon. and in the DS version he looks alot like a Dark Knight which is a plus for me.
  9. Kain is the reason I started to like dragoons. Ricard might be the only cool character in FFII but Kain is my favorite FF character of all time. Also, Ricard might be the first dragoon in the series, but he CANT jump. --ThomiDRAGOON 8 May 2008 (UTC)
  10. Even the Ricard voters say they like Kain more... --ChiefKakashi 17:06, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
  11. Pablo618:OMG!!! Es Kain!!!! TKM Kain! Dme un hij! XOXOXOXOXO Bss!(sorry, my inner fangirl mad eme, thou Ricard is the original, Kain kicks ass!)
  12. SCM For two reasons; 1. Kain is better and 2. I'm helping BH continue his losing streak.
  13. Simply put, Kain can Jump in battle and Ricard can't. Kain, hands down. --JARIITX 23:05, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
  14. Sora_Rainstorm: The picture's cooler, so I guess I'm voting for this guy.
  15. Mateus_the_Corrupt: Should pick Kain up. 1000 stars for him. Go and poke Ricard's ass, Kain!!
  16. The Black Mage: Who doesn't like the dragoon who ends up a pawn for Golbez more times then you can count.
  17. Actiondan: Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain Kain
  18. TheSwordofDoubt:If we keep pity-voting for Ricard, in the end he'll win. Plus, Kain got to the final round of Magicite Madness. Please
  19. ShadowLaguna: Hahahahaha! Fail!
  20. Bluesilver: Ricard got stuck in a sea serpent. Next!
  21. Hi.--Oranejo 01:25, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
  22. Blackheart1991 he was one of the main characters and was the first on to show up in the USA
  23. Fëasindë: I'm back to the voting tables, it seems. I vote for the legend himself, Kain Highwind.
  24. Drake; To answer the above question: Not very well.
  25. Aleria: Like most of my votes, it goes to the one that belongs to the game I've actually played.
  26. Fighter Neither of them are known for using swords but Kain still looks cooler.GO KAIN!!!!!

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Sure I like Ricard, but Kain is just badass
  2. Kain is the greatest dragoon in the whole series! Ricard is probably the least known dragoon.
  3. everyone knows Kain, and Kain never ended up in the stomache of some two bit sea beast. and you dont see a "richards lance."- --exdeath64 and if ANYONE knows how to get rid of the entire profile listing, please do so because i cannot get it to work. 20:08 8 may 2008
  4. Because Kain was the first TRUE dragoon. He can jump.
  5. People are saying Kain is a homo, yet his complete drive was for his lust/love for Rosa that brought out his dark side. Like Thomi said, any FFIV character would DESTROY any character from FF II or any other FF for that fact!

Votes for Ricard[]

  1. I actually like Kain a lot more, this is a pity vote as Ricard'll get slaughtered. Also, he's the only decent character from II besides Leon. Adam mcduck
  2. He's the first Dragoon. I prefer him to Kain, as he sacrificed himself for the lives of the party, instead of turning against them. Besides, he's kickass. - Henryacores
  3. BlueHighwind: I got this amazing losing streak going for the DNC. Last three fights I lost. Can I make it to five? Certainly if I continue to vote for the obvious loser. I only vote for Ricard because he's actually been in my party for a time (never played FFIV). When is Lulu vs. Edea going to happen?
  4. Chocobo Knight: Okay...so this is mostly...mostly a pity vote. I mean, Ricard's clearly going to lose, the poor guy. I mean, more people know Kain, and FF4 is more popular. But I do like Ricard. He was the first Dragoon, AND the first Highwind, damn it, that's gotta be worth something, right? Right?
  5. AnonyMan: Not only is Rich the progenitor of the Dragoon characters in FF, he's much cooler than Kain. It sucks he had to die, just like all of the better temporary party members did in FFII, leaving you with the extremely lame Main 4 at the end. He's also not very known, and FFII isn't very well liked game with those familiar with it. If it was Freya instead of Kain I can see why it'd be one-sided.
  6. dudutsai: I have never voted for Kain and will never vote for the weak minded backstabber. This is also to counter all the people who are going to vote Kain because they never played FFII.
  7. VitoRyu: Ricard.
  8. Pikmin Master: I may have given my lance to Kain (he deserved it and I hate lances), but I perfer Ricard. If anyone can freely dual-wield lances, than I'll be amazed. Plus, Ricard is losing, if not lost.
  9. Triforcel: Not a pity vote, I truely prefer Ricard to Kain. He kicks ass while Kain's a traitor whose friends keep forgiving for some reason.
  10. Alcaeus: Because he isn't an asshole.
  11. --High Summoner: I like my dragoons strong enough to not get possessed... Just saying.
  12. Chocolancer: Ricard was the first dragoon in the series. There would be no Kain if there was no Ricard. Also, Kain is a weak-willed emo asshole and I think his stats suck badly
  13. Voting for the obvious original. And DS Kain looks like he's wearing lipstick. Oath to Order 15:10, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
  14. Is this a pity vote, or is Ricard just better? Otherarrow
  15. TacticAngel: I should say, in the grand scheme of things, I like both, but Ricard's major detractor is he can't jump and Kain's major detractor is that he frequently tries to kill the party because he is not of particularly strong will. I suppose that makes Ricard my choice.

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Kain! I am your Father! (that's not true, that's impossible)
  2. "Kain! I am your Father! (that's not true, that's impossible)"(с) But I like it^^"
  3. Ricard all the way...I think Kain's a homo lol
  4. I despised Kain
  5. It's hard not to give credit to the man who, in addition to inventing the Dragoon, also had Cecil's Dark Knight face first. Ricard wins this one, Kain, if only because he never stabbed me in the back.
  6. As much as I like Kain, Ricard can wield two lances and summon a Wyvern (admittedly not in battle). He also single handedly took on the final boss in the game, ok he lost but Kain never single handedly took on Zemus, Zeromus or Golbez.

Peanut Gallery[]

Drake Clawfang - I predict an early landslide for Kain within 24 hours.

I can't vote in good faith, seeing as how I haven't played Final Fantasy II yet. --Blykus 05:06, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Neither have I; didn't stop me. :p Drake Clawfang

This is EXTREMELY one sided in my eyes. Final Fantasy IV was an amazing game, and Final Fantasy II, while it is a good game, doesn't even compare to IV --ThomiDRAGOON 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Just don't think enough people have played II to make this an even fight -- Varehemsko 8 May 2008
I would say that the fact is sad, but yet FFII is at best mediocre. At worst, its battle system is almost as bad as FFVIII's. Do not ask how many times I had to use "Ultima" before it even began to do real damage. Do not. So Edea vs. Lulu, that ever going to happen? How 'bout Fran vs. Freya? --BlueHighwind 19:00, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Pablo618:BH, tell me is a lie that you haven't played FFIV! It's a must-play from the series! get an emulator and play it or wait for FFIV DS or something!

I never played the game on the GBA because during the period between FFI and FFV, I was too busy in the optional dungeons. Then there were a few other games I HAD to play (like Kingdom Hearts 2). Before I knew it, FFV was out and I didn't feel like waiting for the game that was supposively better than FFVII (it wasn't, I think I may have gotten it confused with FFVI at the time, which is also not as good as FFVII). Then I heard that it was coming out on the DS, so getting it on the GBA felt redundant. --BlueHighwind 21:04, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Pablo618:Well, there are Emulators to consume your spare time
At Pikmin - Mog and Edgar can both dual-wield Lances, as well as the cast of V. Drake Clawfang
But you have to have Genji Glove. I think he means naturally. Also, in V didn't you need to have an ability? -dudutsai

A better fight would be Freya vs. Kain, but thats already been done. The only dragoon that Ricard could beat is Kimahri. --ThomiDRAGOON 9 May 2008 (UTC)

No, even though it was only a job, the first Dragoon that could jump was from FFIII. And Minh/Mindu/Minwu was the best character from FFII. --Alcaeus

Any character from IV could DESTROY basically every person from II. It seriously baffles me that Ricard has so many votes --ThomiDRAGOON 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Nobody really cares about this fight. It was obvious from day 1 that Kain would win, that's why Ricard has so many votes. They are pity votes from people who like to route for the underdog. --BlueHighwind 19:02, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

I would've voted for Kain but I won't because I haven't finished FFII. Not to mention meeting Ricard yet. I don't like Kain that much but I don't know how Ricard is like.--VN

Week 67: Zack v. Oh, wait, I'm not Zack[]

Cloudhalfadvent
Winner!!
Zack Fair
45 to 31½

Zack fair
Zack fair
In honor of the release of Crisis Core, we honor the game by asking this important question; who has more fun in SOLDIER? Blondes or Brunettes? A better question might be, which of these 2x4 toting heroes should Aeris be dating?

Votes for Cloud[]

  1. NickCaligo42: Gotta go with Cloud. Between the guy who engaged Sephiroth in a heated fight and LOST and the guy who beat him by FLINGING him with his own sword--while it was STILL INSIDE HIS GUT--I'm gonna go with the latter. Zack never gives in to despair, but that's because he's never faced any real despair. He had his life HANDED to him on a gold platter. Cloud had to fight for his life; for his identity. He had to watch as the love of his life hung on the arms of his hero and his best friend while he had to hide behind a mask in shame, walking in their shadows as they lived the dream that he had strived and FAILED to attain. He had to face control at the hands of the hero he'd worshipped and tried to become for so long. True enough he fought with Zack's sword for a time, but in the end he built his own sword; found his own strength. He has a kind of strength that dorky clown Zack couldn't even hope to fake.
  2. ChiefKakashi: Because that's the coolest picture of Cloud EVER.
  3. BlueHighwind: This is more about what game he is the star of and who he hangs out with than who Cloud is. Also the Ultima Weapon with Omnislash is kickass.
  4. Shyny: I cannot deny, that Zack is a wonderful person. Cloud might seem weak at times. But he still is a hero. Heroes are not perfect. Nor is Cloud. But that makes him much more believeable. And as was mentioned above me, combo Ultima Weapon+Omnislash is really awesome. I beat Safer Sephiroth with only that used at the beginning of the battle. Cloud all the way.
  5. Big mamou: My vote for Cloud is based on the events in the reactor on Mt. Nibel. Despite not being anywhere near as powerful, Cloud defeats Sephiroth despite being impaled. That was his real moment of heroism, long before the events of Final Fantasy VII or AC.
  6. 8bit_BlackMage: He's the main character of a game much loved by most FF fans. Zack is the main character of a spinoff for a console that no one purchases.
  7. Zack is the man, but I am going with the main hero from VII on this one.(minus the AC version) --Oranejo 01:13, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
  8. Xadren: Cloud is the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII, no FF7 no Crisis Core. Also Zack's role in the main game is very short. Cloud defeated Sephiroth, saved the world and his friends (although not all of them). You must not consider AC, this is a FF7 fight! Last but not least: I think many people will vote for Zack only because they're a group of fanatic girls going crazy for the first cool guy they see. But not so many of them appreciated Zack in the first game. Who knows why...
  9. Triforcel: Well, lacking any and all desire to own a PSP, it'll be a long time before I play Crisis core and learn the full story of Zach. That being said though, I feel that Cloud is a good character and hero who gets a lot of flak that he doesn't deserve.
  10. Skoot85: Nothing wrong with an ambiguous personality. Horrible to put things on the psp
  11. Fuzzy McTeddyfluff: Cloud, because he can break the fourth wall. Pretty awesome stuff.
  12. Sora G. Strife: Cloud rocks.
  13. Varehemsko: Even though Cloud looks like he's gonna lose this one, I'm still voting for him. Zack never mattered to me too much; besides, Aerith got what she wanted out of him in the end anyway and they lived happily ever after in the Lifestream or some such. For all of the complaining that people think Cloud does, he's no different from normal people (take AC for example, he doesn't want to fail people, but doesn't know how he'll go about it or who to rely on if he can't rely on himself). It's human to doubt. Humanity makes a character worth voting for and Cloud is that character.
  14. Dark Dragoon I´ll vote for Cloud on this one just because he killed sephiroth who is the best ff boss in the entire series. Zack just sucks really bad
  15. LegendxMakaveli: I vote for cloud because he has killed sephiroth two times first at the end of FF7 and again in FF7 Advent Children. This is not about fucking love with Ariths this is about who is going to kill who and cloud would kill zack even if cloud is a emo poser. Zack tried to kill sephiroth but faild so that is why cloud wins.
  16. Mergal: Not because Cloud is the main character who started the entire Final Fantasy VII compilation, not because his moves are truly badass, but because his character is one of the most difficult to understand. In Advent Children, though the term emo might sound harsh, it is true that Cloud really is emo--especially if you read Case of Tifa. With Zack dying, and Aerith dying in practically the same year, would even you not be grieving? And the involvement in AVALANCHE, Sector 7 bombing (it was done by the Turks though), Sector 1 bombing... Cloud had a lot to go through; not many friends in his childhood at Nibelheim, apparently living alone with his mother--it's like his life was made out of unfortunate events. In Final Fantasy VII, what made it so lovable was that the player was able to choose what Cloud was thinking--a true RPG game. Not making SOLDIER, thus not fulfilling his promise to Tifa, may have been the most defining event that makes him so popular; meeting Zack [uber special] and being able to absorb pure S cells because he never went through the SOLDIER(mako/Jenova cell) surgery [thus gaining a body that is practically SOLDIER material and pretty mentally and psychologically screwed up].
  17. ShadowLaguna: I may prefer brunettes over blondes, and I think Aeris should date Zack mainly because both of them are dead. However, I still think Cloud is a better character.
  18. Genesis rhapsodos
  19. actiondan: err.. sorry.. but Cloud.. I dont care about time chronology.. FF7 was the first.. therefore Cloud is the original.. I really strongly doubt.. that Zack was made.. and Cloud then based on him.. so Zack in many respects, is just a Cloud part 2.. rather than the other way around
  20. cloud-s: Cloud is the original zack is just a bitch
  21. TacticAngel: I actually like both of these characters. I'm pretty sure I'd vote for whoever had the fewest votes also. They function very well as foils for one another.

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Cloud hands down. As much as I think Zack is cool, Cloud is the main man of FFVII. He is a character with a story unique and interesting. Everyone here is only looking at how Cloud basically stole Zack's dreams and crap like that, and that doesn't make Zack the better character. Zack is too basic and a side character. His background is unoriginal compared to Cloud and his role in the story is only to push the hero, Cloud, forward on the hero's journey. Does anyone even remember Cloud's background before he became a Shinra crony? He was a quiet and anti-social kid who was looked down on and wanted to impress Tifa by becoming a SOLDIER. Zack didn't face such hardships in his life and was somewhat a "pure" character all the way. A hero is someone with flaws and Zack didn't really have flaws. To be honest I don't like Cloud that much (Squall is my favorite) but his story is alot more interesting that Zack's. Everyone only looks at the basic detail, Cloud=emo and Zack=not emo. It's all poor interpretation. Cloud Strife hands down.
  2. It is true that much of the original game of FFVII was Cloud with Zack's memories, BUT, this is one of the reasons FF VII is a great game. The main character finds that he is not what he remembers himself to be. Zack is great but Cloud becomes stronger eventually :P
  3. This is hard to choose for me. I have played Crisis Core but I'll go with Cloud. Sorry Zack, but Cloud has the First Tsurugi and better limits. Live long Omnislash Ver. 5! Plus he lived. Cloud had more potential than Zack had for SOLDIER, he just hadn't shown it and thats why he didn't get in. thats all. Also, just cuz Cloud beat Sephiroth doesn't mean he is stronger, its just that it was harder for Zack because he had personal ties with him while Cloud did not. I'm just being fair.
  4. Yumiko: *sigh* This is hard but since Cloud is losing I pick him. also i just want to add that alot of people on this site forgot the golden age of FF. Just because something new comes along everyone flocks to keep up with the changes. I mean now you say Balthier is cool and stuff but in a few years you'll scorn him and worship another "hero". Cloud is not emo or whatever. He has a deep past and Zack is cool but I cant stand people hating Cloud.
  5. this is tough but i'll go for cloud as even though he's no SOLDIER but he still beat sephiroth which i think zack couldn't do
  6. cloud is the main character of final fantasy vii, it was his story and zack was someone he idolised, i just think that even though cloud is incredibly emo and annoying he still deserves the attention as after all it was his story and he's blonde, let zack have aeris, yuffie and cloud :)
  7. Gamefreak520: This is a tough choice, but I have to go with Cloud. He is the one who eventually defeated Sephiroth, not just once, but twice. And Omnislash just kicks butt!!
  8. I have to go with the one i dress as at conventions due to my hair type. Also I own a First Tsurugi Replica before I owned a Buster Sword replica.
  9. Just for the fight scene in AC that kicked behind.
  10. Cloud rocks...cuz he dressed up as a gurl XD
  11. In madien who tavels the planet it says that she "loved (Cloud) much more than her first love"
  12. Etch: Though both are really awesome characters, clouds always gonna have that place in my heart cuz i grew up with him. Despite what all the trolls say about cloud being emo n everything its hard to deny that he is one of the defining main characters in the series. But either way im not gonna be mad with the outcome cuz zacks great too.
  13. Zack had it easy. Poor Cloud.
  14. It was a tough decision between Zack and Cloud, but since Zack himself has said that Cloud is his living legacy--choosing Cloud means that they both win.
  15. Cloud! Definitely Cloud. Self-trained, kicked Sephiroth's ass THREE times! Blonde! CLOUD!
  16. Because he's so beautiful!!! :-P
  17. Cloud was just a great main character; he had his flaws and was seen as a failure but he was fun when he wasnt stuck in his own little head. Not only that but Omnislash. I can say no more
  18. Clod. He is still alive. Thus, he wins.
  19. Cloud. Because Omnislash does some serious work.
  20. Go Cloud!
  21. I think that over the course of FF7 Cloud goes from being much weaker than Zack to much stronger. Plus the fact that Cloud's beat Sephiroth a few times now and Zack couldn't even do it once. It's pretty much a fact that Cloud could beat Zack in a fight.

Votes for Zack[]

  1. kitkat666: Okay, anyone whose played the games, can see how much better suited Zack is for Aerith. Not to metnion, Zack dies, just trying to make it back to her! He loved her till the end, and she was their for him in one of his greatest times of need *wont spoil*. I wont say Cloud doesn't love her as well; he just does in a different sense. Z+A 4 EVA!!!!!
  2. Zack equals NOT AN EMU POSER BITCH. Plus zack is roxxor to the max.--Superaeon35 20:15, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
  3. Zack has honor and dreams. Cloud has Zack's dreams. That's how it is. And Aerith should be with her real love, you know, the one who she sent 89 letters in 4 years having no reply. - Henryacores
  4. Adam mcduck: Cloud never was that great &, though I haven't played Crisis Core, Zack's story seems to hold more depth & heroism; Cloud's is partially based on Zack's anyway for a little while.
  5. Chocobo Knight: Yeah, he just seems like a nice guy, preferable (I'm sorry if I've spelt that wrong) to Cloud.
  6. Sora_Rainstorm: Yup, don't really like both of them that very muuch; but I have to go with Zack, mainly because I lost all respect for Cloud when I found out he didn't make it as a SOLDIER *cough* wuss!! He tried to act all badass in the beginnig just because he thought he was a SOLDIER. Anyways, Zack had Aeris for a girlfriend, and that's good enough for me. Cloud didn't seem to appeal to me, like these other fangirls. But I guess he's okay.
  7. Oath to Order 22:38, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
  8. Hexed
  9. AnonyMan: Don't really like Zack, but he's a decent character he's got more personality than 90% of the FFVII cast. His hairstyle pretty cool too. While Cloud is just a screwed up lucky, glorified renat-a-cop, he has a few moments of coolness. Like when he muscled Sephiroth into the Lifestream whiled impaled, but thanks to the lackluster Compilation, that now apparently didn't happen, which means Cloud lost even more face in my eyes.
  10. Blykus 23:24, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
  11. Man this is a hard one. Wait, no it's not. Zack > Cloud period -Azul 23:27, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
  12. Drake Clawfang:Just watched those Kefka vs. Sephiroth vids, and the intro convinced me. Plus, he gets into Aeris' pants while Cloud spends the entire game around Tifa and sleeps next to her. More power to Zack.
  13. Nashblade: Well I'd love to spell out the battle like Auron vs Balthier, but Costly Punch (the move that broke Crisis Core) causes this battle to be over before it begins. Otherwise, Omnislash (if its damage limit increased) would own Rush Assault...oh, this question is about who Aeris should be dating? Um...she said Zack was her first love, and never mentions loving Cloud, so cheapo here still wins my vote.
  14. Aleria: I hate to follow the crowd, but not actually having played VII, I have to go with the coolest hair.
  15. Lockhart: After playing Crisis Core, it's hard not to pick Zack. Not only is he better than Cloud, whom I'm a huge fan of, he's one of the best characters in the entire Final Fantasy lexicon. Embrace your dreams.
  16. Yuan: Didn't really like either of them, but Zack gets points for character, even if he is hyperactive.
  17. SCM: I was gonna pity vote Cloud but then came to my senses.
  18. I do not hesistate this time. Cloud is cool but he didn't appeal much to me. But when Zack has his own game, oh my GOD, is he lovable or what? He could be everybody's best friend, he's a people person. He's your ideal fantasy game (and irl) hero (lol amazing how a former NPC can get this popular!) --VN
  19. Dark raven : Because Cloud sucks.
  20. Onewingedangel 10:51, 1 May 2008 (UTC) Cloud is pathetic!!!!!!!!!(I'm saying this because i'm.....well)
  21. Khakishro: Cloud is cool and if the person had not metioned Aeris I would be voting for Cloud. But Aeris was just flirting with Cloud, I don't think she was truly serious with him at ALL. Besides Tifa had dibs. So Zack win Aeris. Also Zack is an all around cool guy, you can't help but think he is a nice person, while Cloud....
  22. Jammi568: No Zack, no VII as we know and love.
  23. MK: Aerith only liked Cloud because he reminded her of Zack. Just another reason Cloith won't work. Cloud is a failure, Zack actually made it into SOLDIER
  24. Zolo He didn't look like he was always emo.
  25. 26 Zack would own Cloud in a fight. Zack fought for the ideas and people he loved. In my opinion he is way better than Cloud. Another thig to keep in mind when Zack fought he did so alone. Cloud had what 8 people in his corner to help him.Hanvy82 09:28, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
  26. Cloud was Zack for half the game(He was insane....)Blackheart1991 11:09, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
  27. Masamune: Everything good about Cloud was just stolen and copied form Zack. Plus, he's just a more likable main character.
  28. VitoRyu: Zack. (again)
  29. gokus789: Gotta go with Zack. As cool as cloud may be I just couldn't relate to him as a character. Zack was much more badass
  30. SacredMist: Definitely Zack. I never really understood why Cloud was so popular... he attempted to live Zack's life and yet he can't measure up to Zack at all.
  31. ThomiDRAGOON: Not only is Zack a complete BADASS. He can use jump, the coolest ability in FF.
  32. Otherarrow: Zack is a far better character.
  33. Cactuar83:Zack is a lot better than an impostor who lived his entire "life" thinking he was Zack.
  34. Wizard Elidibus: Zack is way stronger than Cloud...Zack defeated superboss Minerva while Cloud needed like 2 MORE people to beat one WEAPON!!
  35. Pablo618: I hated cloud's cameo on KH2 (why give him a story?). I lost all respect for him at that moment, SE, stop pleasing fangirls that much, there are better things you could do
  36. BlueSilver Zack IS Cloud... sort of... in the first game and i liked him there but then colud became all emo and completly lost it.
  37. xhirotox : Zack is the TRUE hero of FINAL FANTASY VII!! So He MUST win, without his help, Cloud (that I love too) was never the man he is now! So VIVA ZACK-sama!!

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Zack, the puppy, is a totally awesome character that is the reason Final Fantasy VII as a timeline exists. He had connections with Sephiroth becoming the villain he is now, saving Genesis [I think] for Angeal's wish (I think Genesis is going to come back in another Final Fantasy VII sequel, looking at the Dirge of Cerberus ending), really dating Aerith [come on guys, everyone knows this, he loves Aerith], and perhaps making some of Cloud's limit breaks. Zack's Octaslash and Meteor Shot can be compared to Cloud's Omnislash/Omnislash Version 5 [a revised 15 slashes than 8] and well--Meteor Shot.
  2. Zack is such a beast. He can own anyone!
  3. I have to tell you, I think Zack is waaay better than Cloud, (I mean his story). So... sorry Cloud, but my vote goes for Zack :P
  4. Zack. He has more personality, and I don't really like blonds.
  5. PLAY CRISIS CORE. Zack is a Billy Bad Ass, and Cloud is a emo douchebag who gets motion sickness and couldn't make it in SOLDIER! Plus: Costly Punch, Death Twister, Vital Slash, etc.. are better moves than anything Cloud could ever do.
  6. I'm apoligize to anyone who ever was obsessed with Cloud, seeing as Zack was the reason Cloud even gave a damn about saving the world. Zack had honor, he had ambition, he had a strive to be a hero that Cloud could NEVER reach. Sure, Cloud saved the world and everything, but if you played Crisis Core (which the majority of people who choose Cloud didn't) Zack tells Cloud in his face that he is Zack's honor, dreams, and hopes. That Cloud was Zack's living legacy. So if you think about it, because Zack bestowed everything he is onto Cloud, Cloud basically became Zack. So in essence, Zack saved the world of Jenova, of Sephiroth, of Geostigma, & of Meteor. Hands down, Zack is why Final Fantasy VII even exists, if you can't respect that, then vote for Cloud. Be my guest.
  7. Zack looks better with Aerith! At least he's not a EMO :)
  8. Lowly Emo Guard < BADASS SOLDIER 1st
  9. Zack is everything Cloud wishes he could be.
  10. Zack is wonderful! He's the best puppy ever!
  11. Zack saved the world by himself, no help from other party members. Zack saved Clouds ass from Shin-Ra troops. Zack could of left Cloud to die but no, He's a true hero, He has honor, pride and loyalty to a friend that never did anything for him. If he wasn't such a Nice guy, FFVII would have never happened. Sure, Cloud is cool, but Zack is the man.
  12. Zack's abilities are leagues better than most of Cloud's, save for Omnislash. He can beat Genesis without breaking a sweat, and hold up better with Sephiroth than Cloud ever could (he can do pretty well in the two fights with Sephy, as long as you don't suck).
  13. Zack is way better then cloud. Cloud would be nothing if not for Zack.
  14. Even Cloud fans must admit, he wouldnt be worth anything to FFVII without Zack there to help him before then. And even after Zacks death, all Cloud could do was copy him to make people like him.
  15. Zack is -the- hero. His death is cooler than all of Cloud's life (including the famous scene in the Nibelheim reactor 'five years ago').
  16. Don't get me wrong, I adore Cloud. I think despite his Emo tendencies in Advent Children that he's a good hero, but him and Aerith together...not so much. She was made for Zack. Zack is confident enough in his skin to protect her when she needs it, but also make her stronger. On that same line, Aerith can be a partner and loving figure to him when he has to deal with the multitude of Shin-Ra related hell. Cloud is the reluctant hero, not quite as sure of himself and needs someone to kick him in the butt once in a while to give him the boost he needs *cough*Tifa*cough*. So, as much as I love both Zack and Cloud, and think they're absolutely kick ass in their own ways, Zack and Aerith belong together.

Peanut Gallery[]

Who's been titleing these last few fights? Only I think it's all getting just a little stilted.

I have, and you're welcome. Also, titling is spelled without an e. --TacticAngel 20:16, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, would you look at that. TA telling someone how to spell. :P --Mymindislost 23:19, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Mergal 11:35, 6 May 2008 (UTC)I dunno if this might be just a trick played on the majority of us by Square Enix or whatever, but I was thinking, doesn't Cloud at Mt. Nibel reactor, slice Sephiroth through without him noticing? What I saw, was that Sephiroth was talking to 'mother' and then suddenly Cloud takes the Buster sword and just impales Sephiroth through to Jenova's container? [no blood of course...] I think this is a bit more plausible, than Cloud being stronger than Sephiroth, at the time. Then again, in the game Crisis Core, Cloud runs ridiculously faster than Zack, if you are following him to the reactor. And Zack kinda weakens Sephiroth beforehand... I DUNNO! Random note: some one cut up my vote and put it as extra votes for Cloud. That not fair guy! "This guy are sick." ~ Aerith

I feel kinda sorry for Cloud. Though stealing Zack's memories was bad, he did feel sorry for it after he remembered what really happened. Then he had to rebuild himself. He deserved it, but... --ChiefKakashi 20:25, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I used to feel sorry for Cloud. Ten years ago when it was just FFVII, the guy had been delt a bad hand. But when he was still in broody whiney form in Advent Children (EVEN THOUGH THAT SHIT HAD BEEN SOLVED WITH TIFA IN THE LIFESTREAM!! DOESN'T ANYBODY AT SQUARE GIVE A FUCK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN FFVII ANY MORE!!!) he lost all respect from me. --BlueHighwind 20:28, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, but at least Marlene and Tifa told him to grow up. --ChiefKakashi 21:07, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
And half the movie is wasted replaying plot points that we've been over before. Cloud is difficult to relate to. Cloud is sad because Aeris died. Cloud is connected to Sephiroth. While all that bullshit is playing, more and more running is wasted not showing Sephiroth. If Square couldn't think of a new plotline for this guy then he shouldn't have had an extra movie. --BlueHighwind 21:17, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
But BH, "the plot's on crack, just go with it." (I really don't like AC that much, It's just nice to look at.) --ChiefKakashi 21:28, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
the director of AC isn't the same person who directed the original game. That's why it made me think "I thought he got over it?". But you guys have to read "The Maiden who Travel the Planet", "Case of Tifa" and "Case of Denzel" (from the Ultimania book thingy. There is the translation somewhere in the internet)to understand what actually happened to him. But you don't have to believe what happened in the short stories because the writers had nothing to do with the original storyboard...so says a friend of mine --VN 1 May 2008

I'm not voting in this one because I haven't played Crisis Core yet and thus can't make a decision on Zack or Cloud outside of the expressionless text boxes of FFVII. All I can say is I hope that this will be another good fight. May the best man win. --Tex 20:53, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I didn't like AC Emo Cloud, but VII Cloud was an asshole who gouged a small-time terrorist group, didn't care about the fate of the planet and impersonated Zack. Cloud also hung out with two hot chicks who were both interested in him. But he didn't make a move on either of them! Zack on the other hand did all the stuff Cloud thought he did, and unlike Cloud, Zack had it going on with Aeris, which I envy. This vote will take some time to make. Cloud's an ass, but on the other hand, Zack got Aeris. Drake Clawfang

@Sora: Just because a character appealed to you, that doesn't automatically make a fangirl. --ChiefKakashi 22:00, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I say Zack will win 40-10. Anyone disagree? --ChiefKakashi 23:21, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Nobody else seems to have played FFVII here, so they wouldn't understand the power of Omnislash with the Ultima Weapon. Obviously Cloud will lose. --BlueHighwind 23:22, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Honestly, I'm a little surprised by the early voting. I guess we will just have to see. These things are notoriously hard to predict. In any case, I like and dislike aspects of both of them for very different reasons. --TacticAngel 02:58, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

@Big Mamou: Cloud didn't defeat Sephiroth at the Nibel Reactor while impaled by his sword: Sephiroth jump off to the pit of the reactor in panic after Cloud lifted the blade, making him head to the Northern Crater. - Henryacores

I believe that is only in Last Order. In FFVII and Crisis Core it is Cloud tossing Sephiroth.--Oranejo 03:15, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Here's what happened, for all those in the cheap smelly seats out in the Continuation of FFVII. Cloud ran in and stabbed Sephiroth with the Buster Sword he picked up from the beaten corpse of that pansey Zack. Sephiroth grabbed Jenova's head, and stabbed Cloud through the chest with his Masamune. Cloud seemed defeated, but then lifted up the blade with his bare hands, and threw Sephiroth down into the Lifestream. Which I must admit, is one of the most badass things ever. --BlueHighwind 12:09, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Cloud may have faults, but like BH said, Cloud tossing Sephiroth into the Lifestream is one of the most badass moments in Final Fantasy. --Big mamou
Not to mention that he slept with Tifa at the end of Disc 2. Everybody just seems to gloss over that fact. --BlueHighwind 18:55, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

TA, you HAVE to do an all-FFIV fight in July. ONLY IF YOU MAKE ME THIS ONE PROMISE will I vote in this fight which only passed by 1 vote and most of the for votes were anons. There are a lot of fights, including Edea-Lulu, Freya-Fran, and Vivi-Aeris. --Crazyswordsman 18:56, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, and is there a reason you chose the ugly prettyboy art rather than the original? --Crazyswordsman 19:03, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Well I have seen Cloud called a lot of names around the internet and what not, but that is the first time I have ever seen him called an Emu.(vote #1 for Zack :P)--Oranejo 19:21, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

The plot of Crisis core and the fighting was awesome...I now offically saw somthing I didnt think was possible..somone cooler than Sephiroth..Genesis. Meanwhile, AC was made before Crsis core and many others because it was probably gonna be like X-2...the only continuation, and they couldn't come up with a good plot, so they half assed it and then just amde the fighting really amazing but had a crappy plot. Tho I have to say, I do love the fighitn in it, and it likely did help to make the fighting so goood for Crisis core, becauase it was a way to give them experience b4 they made the game. meanwhile, I also think that abilities wise, Zack and Cloud are even. But Cloud just isnt that liekable in persnality, while I like Zacks personality. Chipmonk329

Is it just me or is there an anti-emo sentiment going about these days? I can never tell such things. That aside, I dispute the label, and postulate that if Cloud were your typical emo, he'd probably keep a razor spare, because God knows, you can't slit your wrists with a Buster Sword... Also some people seem to have a problem with Cloud and his woman problems. Anyone would think that having cool (and importantly, blond) hair like Cloud's and a physique like his is supposed to be unattractive. Besides put yourself in his shoes; do you date Ms Nature, with all the sentimental stuff men like in women or Ms Earth, with all the body any red-blooded male would want? (That isn't to say that one doesn't have the other's attributes either but there you go). OK so he's been engineered. I don't see Neo and Trinity complaining... I agree with BH about Omnislash too. It's saved my skin a few times. --Varehemsko
Wow, it looks like Cloud is making one big comeback -- YuanchosaanSalutations! 09:35, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

A little bit, yeah. But I think the only thing that can save him is anon votes. --ChiefKakashi 17:52, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Why was I deleted from Zack? I am a user...so why delete me? I cant help that it wont send my password to my email when I want it to..jeez, I signed it and everything and it deleted my vote..I call a baias..since it must be as such because Cloud is winning and I'm deleted..no doubt others were too, as a way to give Cloud an unfair advantage..delet people who voted Zack...tho this is just a theory..--Chipmonk329

Yeah, sure, TA loves Cloud soo much that he deletes votes for Zack. Hahahahahahaa. Dark raven

i wonder if there'll be an Aeris vs Tifa next... --VN 3 May 2008

If you want that fight, put it on the suggestion page. --ChiefKakashi 00:16, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
If i did, would I be able to vote then? --VN 3 May 2008
Yes. --ChiefKakashi 21:31, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Damn. I'm at a loss. Personally, I like Zack's personality better and I think that he and Aeris made a better couple than her and Cloud. That being said, Cloud was undoubtedly the better hero in the end. I mean, come on, he killed Sephiroth. I guess I just can't decide between the confused hero or the guy with the better personality... --Rydiaofmist
You could do a pity vote... --ChiefKakashi 22:56, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey BH! Zack has Octoslash, check it on youtube (although all the videos are shit)Pablo618 01:54, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

That is only eight slashes though. I like the Genesis limit the best, it is funny to watch a bunch of soldiers drop dead at the same time after it is used.--Oranejo 14:37, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Octoslash sucks. 8 hits of 300 HP does not even come CLOSE to fifteen hits of 9999. Don't make me laugh. --BlueHighwind 11:55, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Are you at level 15 or something?!?!?! MY Octaslash deals 8 hits of 25,000+ each time, but I have the Genji Glove equipped. Even at level 15 my octaslash did way more than 300 damage. How far are you in Crisis Core? --ThomiDRAGOON 6 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm in Gongaga and on level 23. In my last battle with Sephiroth, Octoslash did 300 - 500 damage per slash. It was on level 5. Angeal's thing is much stronger. --BlueHighwind 19:09, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Looks like even Zack pummels Cloud in the DNC. Has Cloud's demeanor in Kingdom Hearts(guessing here never played any of them) and Advent Children pretty much screwed him over from even coming close in fights anymore?--Oranejo 00:11, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, I can understand that. If I knew this was a fight between Cloud and Sora in a black haircut in the first place, I might have voted differently. Well, actually Sora can fucking JUMP in his fighting game, so Zack sucks. --BlueHighwind 01:39, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I so wish I could vote on this. But I've only seen Cloud on Advent Children and Kingdom Hearts. Which means I only know shit about one and basically nothing on the other. sighs --Mjka

Just wondering if we can end the slaughter of Cloud already, and move onto something else.

Week 66: Auron v. Balthier[]

Auron Art
Winner!!
Auron
40 to 31
Auron Art
Balthier-ffxii-render
I'm not sure what the motivation about this is aside from the two most unreasonably popular male characters in the FFWiki, one might even say over-rated. In any case, here they are, your favorites. Who dies?

Votes for Auron[]

  1. NickCaligo42: I just have to go with Auron. He represents a time when Final Fantasy was slightly more tasteful than what it's become; a time when it was the pinnacle of modern gaming, respected amongst fans and critics alike. Today, largely in thanks to Balthier and the game he's a part of--though I won't count out Crisis Core and Kingdom Hearts--all they see is a shallow game full of androgynous juvenile male leads designed solely to please fangirls. Don't get me wrong, if I had to choose someone from FFXII that I'd say I liked it'd be Balthier, hands down, and were he fighting Tidus I'd be voting differently, but Auron wins this one. He's a stronger character from a stronger game with a stronger story. Plus he has Triple Overdrive and Break Damage Limit going for him, and since he doesn't need to blow all his MP to do his ultimate attacks Balthier would genuinely be screwed the second he used one of those lame quickenings.
  2. Adam mcduck: Auron's the badass, Balthier's the leading man... Badasses are more fun so Auron wins, though I won't mind if Balthier wins.
  3. Omega MK 54: Auron has some of the best lines in FFX, and his mysterious nature makes him even better
  4. Jammi568: Auron, because he can be middle aged, and be cool
  5. Blykus 08:25, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
  6. Henryacores: Auron is epic.
  7. Dark raven: That's obvious.
  8. Lockhart: Although Balthier is awesome, he can not compare to all that is Auron. Auron may very well be the best character in the series.
  9. Actiondan: Balthier has the lines, but Auron has everything else =].
  10. Tex: I'm one of the few who doesn't use Balthier much in FFXII, but Auron in FFX is in the fight most of the time. Plus Tornado > Element of Treachery IMO. Plus, I like Auron's Theme and his cool and calm mannerisms...Auron, hands down.
  11. OtO: Balthier is a disgrace to Final Fantasy. A total and complete ripoff of other good characters in media, but it utterly failed. He's weak, horribly designed, and has bad lines. He's all talk and not enough action.
  12. NOOOOO!!! I refuse to let Auron lose to this overconfident bastard! Go auron!--Superaeon35 20:24, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
  13. Bartz235: Pretty much what superaeon said. Auron is epic, powerful, and wise. Balthier is overconfident, snobby, and his reputation to Auron is nothing. Everyone in Spira knows Auron, while Balthier is a pirate noob who got lucky that he ended up with an amazing kick-ass viera to do the fighting and piloting for him.
  14. Chocolancer: Auron is the badass of badass, period...(leading man...pssshhh!)
  15. Sora_Rainstorm: "Now! This is it! Now is the time to chose! Die and be free of pain; or live and fight your sorrow!! Now is the time to shape your story, YOUR FATE IS IN YOUR HANDS!!!" Auron aall the waay for me baby! Not only is he the best character in FFX (or in history of all characters); he's cool, he's wise, he's strong, he's sexy, he's mysterious. I don't give a damn if he's middle aged; he still looking pretty good for an unsent! Balthier stands no chance against Auron's HUGE kantana! If Auron can still keep his cool when hearing all of Tidus' whinning, he can win with no sweat. You can't loose, Auron! BEAT HIS ASS!!
  16. TheSwordofDoubt: 我真的要说吗?
  17. Dr. mcfishers: I'd have to go for Auron. Auron's an awesome badass shadow-of-glory hero and Balthier hides behind Fran.
  18. AK-47: How in the name of Lock, Stock and two weed-smoking scottish pipers is this even a fight? Balthier is as good a character as anything Lindsay Lohan's every played in any movie ever. Guys who voted for Balthier, you can officially go buy yourself little hats with the word "retard" on them right now. And give them to BlueHighwind!
  19. Mjka: Don't get me wrong, I like Balthier, [being that sexy should be illegal], but there's no way in all the Farplane that the wandering unsent ronin can lose to the metrosexual sky pirate. No way. Especially since technically he can't die again. GO AURON! USE YOUR BUSHIDO TO KICK HIS SEXY ASS!
  20. Dancing Daggers: No doubt; Auron is by far the coolest character out there. Not necessarily my favorite, but certainly the coolest. Auron is the badass who crawled from Zanarkand over a f*cking mountain and all the way to Bevelle before eventually snuffing it, and then STILL refusing to go to the afterlife. That makes him even more of a badass monster then Vincent Valentine in my opinion. In contrast Balthier is just up himself.
  21. Arausio:This battle has already been decided as has everything in life kick his ass Auron
  22. Defunctzombie: Auron, hands down. May not look the best, but anyone who attacks with his wine is best in my book.
  23. Falbub: Very tough choice, but I'm voting for Auron here. Auron is kickass, and he had to put up with Tidus. TIDUS. This pretty much means he has the patience of a saint.
  24. Kenjutsukata1o1: Auron is a classic character, and as Final Fantasy X was the very first Final Fantasy I ever played, he was one of the first characters I was introduced to- and to this day he remains one of my favourite characters of the series (and the only character I've ever cosplayed as!). He's dedicated, strong, loyal, and has all the awesome samurai type characteristics for added awesomeness. Balthier's just... blah. I'll admit, at first he amused me, but he got old really quick. I'm sorry, the characters in Final Fantasy XII just don't get very good development, and even if they did, Auron would clean house with any of them. Go Auron!
  25. RaggleFraggleVoteyBoaty AzureDrake 03:31, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
  26. Hydronisa It's AURON, DAMMIT!! He BLEEDS Testosterone! FIGHT OVER!!!
  27. Blackheart191: He actually has a F&@%$ing pair.....
  28. Skoot85 He is crippled and still OWNS
  29. Terra_Homing: Auron's just badass. I don't really like balthier, shocking but true.
  30. Varehemsko: Auron simply outweighs Balthier in so many respects. Men like Balthier you follow because they are leaders. Men like Auron you fear and respect, because he talks with his actions, and his actions HURT. Also Bushido works better for me than Fires of War/Tides of Fate/Element of Treachery
  31. Leiber Mage: While surprising to know that Balthier is son to FFXII's Cid and has a very coo attitude, the fact of the matter is Auron can kick ass more than anyone else, and has more character development than he does. Plus, Auron has put up with Tidus who is, I'd say a little more childish than Vaan (but just a little)
  32. RedMage I like swords.
  33. Kami strife 17:34, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Auron gets my vote simply because he is Auron. Someone with his level of badass-ness doesn't need anything more.

  1. no comment, why not have sed(lost odyssey) vs cid
  2. OMG!! This would be a very good one, I think Auron is the best ffx character and i don´t like Balthier so i gotta go with Auron. Balthier may be the leading man but Auron IS THE MAN!!-- SaBin TOny
  3. Balthier is awesome, but not even the leading man can beat the legendary undead gaurdian of FFX.
  4. got to go with Auron on this one
  5. If Auron needed a wallet to keep money in, the likelyhood is that it would have on the front the words 'Bad Ass M***** F*****'. The only character in the whole of ff IMO who looks like he can actually pull off swinging a supermassive sword; most look unable to even pick it up. He does it dead, age of death over 40 -and with sunglasses on. Noone else in ff10 seems to wear sunglasses; its like he was so cool -he invented em in Spira. Balthier wouldn't stand a chance.
  6. Auron would TOTALLY win this one. he would also win it as an UNSENT BADASS.
  7. I'm rather fond of both of them, actually, but I'm of the opinion that it's hard to defeat someone who's already dead. I'm putting my money on Auron.
  8. Auron is da maaan! Auron could kick Balthier's ass any day!
  9. How can you make me choose? I love both of them so much. The battle would probably depend on luck. With Auron's kick-ass sword he could probably beat Balthier without breaking a sweat. BUT (let's assume Balthier's using his default weapon[gun]) if Balthier can get a good position and move fast enough, Auron may not be able to catch up with him before he is defeated. So... since liked Auron first and longer I shall vote for him. Cold, loyal wise guy beats cool, smart mouth pirate.
  10. GO Auron!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he's way cooler!
  11. Big Sword.
  12. Auron...Mifune...legend...
  13. Yumiko: Auron is cool. Plus he is in the last FF before enix (which totally screwed up FF)came along. So go Auron
  14. Oh, tear my heart out with this vote, why dontcha? I love them both so much, with their (no doubt confusing to less genre-savvy characters) commentary on stories and leading roles... I'll give this one to Auron though. At least Balthier has his health. :P

Votes for Balthier[]

  1. Rydiaofmist: Although Auron was a great character, I still prefer Balthier. He was fun, entertaining, and witty, not to mention damn sexy.
  2. BlueHighwind: He is one of the best characters in FFXII, however its in FFT where he really shines. In a game filled with super-powered people like Agrias, Delita, and the Thunder God, Balthier was the most powerful. Can't really top that. And he's a part of the superior game by far.
  3. AnonyMan: Balthier of course being massively popular,(well by FFXII standards) isn't that bad of a characters, he's pretty entertaining, Auron not so much. He's not that cool to begin with, but since everyone just swoons over this guy it's just even more annoying, still he's probably like the only other Main FFX character who's even borederline bearable.
  4. Crazyswordsman: Call me old fashioned but I prefer voting for someone who isn't drunk.
  5. ChiefKakashi: He's currnetly losing. Go Balthier!
  6. Big mamou: Auron's is a great character, but Balthier is better.
  7. Mymindislost: Are you fucking kidding me? Of COURSE I'm voting for Balthier!
  8. I do not know about XII, but aside from my Onion Knight, Balthier was my favorite character to play as in Tactics.--Oranejo 19:26, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
  9. While I may be into older men, I'm going to have to vote for Balthier. The only way I would vote against Balthier is if he were against Vivi, Sabin, Minwu and possibly some other characters. That, and Balthier is hotter than Auron by a long shot. So much hotter... --Alcaeus
  10. Pablo618: He has some sweet-ass lines
  11. Hexed
  12. Aramis: Do I really have to give an explanation every time I vote? I just like Balthier more.
  13. I've decided...although i think Auron is the coolest, but Balthier is the one who charmed me. --VN
  14. Cactuar38:Balthier is an ARCHADIAN! All Auron is is a NON ARCHADIAN. So he can use swords, pfeh, Balthier can use guns spears, hand-bombs, swords, bows, and guns. Guns beat swords in this case but Lightsaber beats Darth Vader. Baltier rox.
  15. SCM: He's better than Auron, and the Leading Man.
  16. Aleria:He's just awesome.
  17. Maverick King:Are you fucking shitting me? Auron sucks. His quotes suck, and if they were ever used in real life, the person would get laughed at. I laughed my ass off when Auron said his bat fuck insane "Now is the time to choose" pep talk. Kimahri is far supeior and easily trumps that grimpy bastard of a samurai. Arrogant bastards beat self proclaimed "badasses". Guns always beat swords fanboys and if you think I'm wrong I will fight you. That's no lie.
  18. Zephyrus11:Balthier is the leading man.
  19. Pikmin Master: There is only one reason why Balthier is my choice. No, it's not that he's freaking awesome. No, it's not that he's "in the better games". No, it's not that he's the self-proclaimed leading man. It's solely because of his versatility. In XII, he can do and equip pretty much anything. In Tactics, he can change jobs, and have the sub-job abilities from FFV, too. I'm quite disappointed in Balthier's restriction in RW. Sure, Auron CAN technically use White Magic, but not only it's useless for him, but it takes a long while before he can learn them all. Like Alcaeus said, Minwu can beat Balthier.
  20. Triforcel: Yeah. I'm going with the one I like better.
  21. I pick balthier cause I used him more, and was better. CoD
  22. HiddenWings The leading man, indeed.
  23. Nashblade: FFX vs FFXII The Battle: Auron struggles to connect with his Masamune, while Balthier chips away with his Fomalhaut. With his Power Break and Armor Break useless, hope is running out for Auron. Balthier uses his Quickening and Auron barely survives. However, with a full overdrive gauge, he uses Banishing Blade and Balthier is now in critical status as well. Next attack wins...and Balthier gets the win! Note: FFT would be quite different. It would be the longest battle of all time while Balthier uses Arm Shot and Leg Shot, as well as Barrage (assuming that Seal Evil wouldn't be an instant win), but with a max of 748 damage with the Fomalhaut per Barrage (Auron has no Faith, so no Blaster), Auron waits patiently and eventually gets one lucky hit and kills him.
  24. Yuan Come on, just 9 more votes...
  25. ZodiarkMKXII: Balthier's Element of Treachery is one of my favorite moves, so my vote goes for Balthier.
  26. TacticAngel: Believe it or not, I actually like Balthier.

Anonymous votes[]

  1. I'm gonna vote for the leading man!
  2. Auron may be cool, but I'm gonna have to vote for the sexy leading man that has his own sweet airship.
  3. He has his own airship, is a pirate (and all pirates rule), and he isn't a ghost/dream or whatever Auron was.
  4. Tough choice...They're both extremely wise about their worlds (Auron in Spira and Balthier in Ivalice, of course) and they both have painful pasts. But I'll go with the smooth-talking gunslinging sky pirate we all love. Plus I got to play him more! (FFXII and FFXII:RW; looking forward to FFT)
  5. My vote is definitely for the sexy leading man who is the star of FFXII
  6. Agurably the two best characters ever i gotta give this one to Balthier if only because i seem to recall Auron having difficulty hitting anything that moves quickly.(i don't even think it really neccessary to point out the more accesible nature of mist charges or the fact that Balthier could summon)
  7. He's dashing, sexy and badass. So there. And I agree with the person who said Auron has a hard time hitting things that move fast.
  8. Such a tough decision. I adore both games and both characters. But since I adore pirates, I'll go with the sky pirate!
  9. The leading man never dies!!
  10. exdeath64- he totes guns, has a airship, and has a viera following him around for no apparent reason, need i say more?

Peanut Gallery[]

I don't think you could get the two of them to fight. They'd start talking in metafiction, then team up and go around confusing and/or annoying the hell out of people with fourth wall-less comments. Gotta love 'em. ...why yes, I am anonymous Auron voter number 14, how did you guess?

Another tough choice! I like them both DX. Auron's like the coolest ronin, and Balthier's freakin charming. Both are the greatest supporting characters (yes, i take Balthier as a supporting character despite his 'leading man' demeanor :3 ). --VulpineNinja 24 April 2008

Jammi568: @ whoever wrote that description. Last time i checked Cloud and Sephiroth were both massivly overrated on this Wiki.

Cloud? No. Sephiroth? Hell, yes! But not as much as those two -- YuanchosaanSalutations! 08:06, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Hell no! FFVII Fanboys are massively bashed on this wiki! Henryacores
...And Balthier is the avatar of gods where almost everyone worshiped. -- Nelo 09:07, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

LOL somebody said Auron is middle age? I thought he's like 30 something. Vincent is middle aged... --VulpineNinja 24 April 2008

No way. Auron is at least in his late forties. I always thought him to be around fifty. --BlueHighwind 12:12, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Yay! My suggestion! --ChiefKakashi 17:01, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Funny, that's how I always saw Vaan, Oath. Are you sure you got your character's straight? --BlueHighwind 19:50, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

I doubt it, because Vaan didn't rip off a good character. He ripped off bad ones, like Tidus. --Crazyswordsman 22:57, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
In RW (and RW only), Balthier sucks. Bad. --ChiefKakashi 23:40, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Well since Revenant Wings itself sucked, it could not be helped. Really what could Balthier do in a half-hearted attempt at an RTS? What could anyone do with a game that actually had an idiot like Vaan as the central character? (Don't give me that shit about him being the lead in FFXII, he had like six lines and no purpose). Anybody who says Balthier is weak better play War of the Lions. I'd like to see them fucking talk then. --BlueHighwind 00:10, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Orlandu could kill him... but thats about it. Orlandu is rediculous though. --TacticAngel 02:07, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

I have noticed a trend, so I will emphasize this point: you must be logged in to vote as a user. Otherwise you're an imposter, as far as I can tell. --TacticAngel 06:15, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

TA, best intro ever! -- Nelo 08:10, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

OMG! I have just read it! It's so hilarious! Pablo618

Wow. Who knew that this would be a landslide victory for Auron? --Alcaeus

...Dammit. Well, it sounded good at least. --ChiefKakashi 02:52, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

MK, I accept your challenge. We will meet a dawn. I'll fight with a claymore and you can run around with a 15th century pistol with a jamming problem. --BlueHighwind 12:24, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, Balthier's slowly catching up. If this trend continues, maybe we'll see the greatest comeback in DNC history? --ChiefKakashi 22:57, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

This is gettin' good--TheSwordofDoubt 12:02, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Right now as of the time I post this comment, Auron is ahead of Balthier 35 1/2 votes to 27 1/2 votes. It will be interesting to see who emerges as the victor in this bout between two of the FFWiki's most popular FF characters. Will the powerful ronin make the leading man's pain be twofold or will the crafty sky pirate shoot the unsent one down to the Farplane? Time will tell... --Tex 19:04, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Actually Vivi would kick both of their asses. --BlueHighwind 19:06, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Cloudofdarkness Have you noticed that almost all anons sound alike. When voting for Balthier, almost all say "Leading man", and those who vote for Auron say he's an unsent badass. Pretty repetitive.

Well? It's true for both of them, and lots of people like them for the same reasons. User:RedMage

Week 65: Cid Highwind v. Cidolfus Demen Bunansa[]

CidHighwind-FFVIIArt
Winner!!
Cid Highwind
38½ v. 34
CidHighwind-FFVIIArt
Cid Highwind, one of the great dragoons in the Final Fantasy franchise, the only Cid that wasn't ignored entirely that did not make it into Magicite Madness Cid Bracket, faces off versus the winner of the Cid Bracket, the mad scientist Cidolfus Demen Bunansa.

Votes for the Dragoon[]

  1. Shyny: Unlike Dr. Cid, he was always with you and that left enough space for his character to evolve. In FF XII, you can encounter Dr. Cid face to face i think only twice and then few cutscenes with him, but that's all. Sure he is interesting but that is not enough to beat Cid Highwind.
  2. Rydiaofmist: He's the quintessential Final Fantasy Cid to me.
  3. ChiefKakashi: "Sit your ass down and drink your goddamn TEA!!!"
  4. AnonyMan: I'm not a big C. Highwind fan, but he's pretty funny and one of the only good Main Characters in VII. When he was the lead in Cloud's absence it was the best part of the game. As far as his status as a Cid goes he's probably....third best, with Cid Pollendina and Cid Fabool IX 2nd and 1st respectively.
  5. JARIITX: I'll take the Highwind over nethicite any day.
  6. I think they're both great but Cid being an ally is better than Cid as a foe. Adam mcduck
  7. Xadren: C'mon! He's nearly the greatest character in a FF game! There is no Cid better than him! Also, he is a dreamer and the first Cid into the Outer Space!
  8. What CK said AzureDrake 21:57, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
  9. Cid Highwind is the man. He stepped up for me when Yuffie stole my materia.--Oranejo 00:17, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
  10. Chocolancer: Nobody says NO to Cid Highwind! He's my favorite Cid of all! He swears, smokes, uses a spear, and is hilarious!
  11. gokus789: This Cid simply because he made my favorite airship the Highwind.
  12. Yuan: He's my favourite Cid
  13. Lockhart: Dr. Cid is not too bad, but come on, is this even a contest. Cid Highwind is by far the best Cid. Don't hate.
  14. Varehemsko: I never did get on well with C. Bunansa, and the character was developed too much in the third person. C. Highwind gets my vote, if only for my memory of being told how profusely he swore on the Sister Ray. Good times :) Also what CK and AD said.
  15. Chocobo Knight: Meh, they're both alright. Cid is a Dragoon (false Dragoon or not, he has a spear), he is a Highwind, he has that funny quote, and you know, he could have just launched his spaceship meaning his assistant would have died but he didn't. He was angry at her sure but he still stopped the launch and threw away his dream to make sure she didn't die. Pretty nice. Dr. Cid was alright and an original idea (a Cid being a villain) but still, he was just plain crazy!
  16. Pikmin Master: This Cid can equip a mop for a weapon.
  17. Mateus_the_Corrupt:Dr. Cid is being a total crap, though I didn't know him alot. Cid Highwind is only sort of Cid I know. Aside from Kain, Freya, Kimahri and Llyud, Cid was the popular and notable Dragoon everyone could know.
  18. Sora G. Strife: Cid Highwind just rocks, as he did get a swearword past the censors.
  19. SuperBossOMEGA: One vote for the one who isn't crazy
  20. Etch: Cid's the man what can u say
  21. GimliSam: Easily my favorite Cid of the series, not to mention the fact that he has the coolest airship. Ever.
  22. RedMage: I just like Cid(this one)'s character a lot more. Also, he has cool airship, and featured in FF:AC, which is great despite everything anyone else says about it.
  23. Sora_Rainstorm: I'd go for Cid Highwind, mainly because he is my most favorite Cid out of all the series. He also cusses a lot and that's always cool. Anyone who dreams of going into outer space and has the name Highwind has to be the coolest. Besides, it's kinda hard to imagine an evil Cid in the series. It's a little bizzare.
  24. Ifrit: I had no idea how to decide so I figured it would be fun to tie up the competition =).
  25. Drake:I'll vote for the character that doesn't suck.
  26. PhoenixDew I gotta go with Cid Highwind, cause I loves me a good spear, while Dr. Cid uses weird gun things... plus I just like player characters better in general.
  27. Slayerette: Doctor Cid has a cool voice actor but that's pretty much it. Cid Highwind is awesome.
  28. Triforcel: Both Cids are pretty awesome, but I find this Cid just a little bit better.
  29. tomtheroadkill: It's a difficult choice this one. I liked Dr.Cid as he has been the only evil Cid so far. But Cid Highwind is my choice as he is a crude, rude, killing machine!
  30. Terra_Homing: Oh come on! No choice at all...
  31. Falbub: These are my two favorite Cids of all time, but Highwing takes the lead by far. He's just awesome like that.
  32. Prudence Moon: Seriously, the best Cid there is, hands down. The rest are lame by comparison.
  33. TacticAngel 05:34, 24 April 2008 (UTC): Always liked Cid Highwind. I was never too impressed with Dr. Cid though. Seemed a little too metro for me.

Anonymous votes[]

  1. The most badass is the one who has a worse mouth.
  2. Hes not as good as T.G. Cid, but Cid Highwind;s Limit alone will destroy the other Cid.
  3. Rainacide - I will have to go with Cid Highwind, why becuhs he's my all favorite character from FFVII & I use him even more than Cloud, he was a beast as a leader when Cloud was gone. He has pretty brutal Limit Breaks & he's just an all bad ass. Cid from XII ain't so bad either but...Cid Highwind is just...an all natural bad ass.
  4. Cid Highwing is the BEST
  5. Cursing Cid rocks!!!!! XD
  6. He may be on the rude side, but I have to go with Cid Highwind as being better, if for nothing more than he's a scruffy, blond guy who dreams of space. Though it's not in the game, I love it in Advent Children when, in response to Barret telling him to park the airship, Cid says, "If you want off, then jump."
  7. One of the Greatest Cid's around!
  8. Mr. Highwind, because he's a Highwind & obviously the most BADASS Cid around ;]
  9. go FFVII !!! :-)
  10. why are people suckers for the person who helped make balthier wow he's a james bon rip off get over it, now highwind hes were the moneys at
  11. Cid Highwind is one of my favorite characters in anything, ever. Dr. Cid is a pansy, and not in a good way.

Votes for the Doctor[]

  1. Henryacores: "History back on men's hands"...Cid Demen Bunansa is probably the best Cid on Final Fantasy
  2. Blykus 19:16, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
  3. BlueHighwind: Well this is indeed a tough one. Dragoon vs. Mad Scientist. Cursing Wife Beater vs. Lunatic with a God Complex. I empathize with them both. However, this Cid wins only because Cid Highwind cannot perform Jump at will (meaning he's a false Dragoon), and because Dr. Cid is just the better character.
  4. It was decided in the Magicite Madness. Doctor Cid is the best Cid ever. Dark raven
  5. Pablo618
  6. Mymindislost: Gots to go for the Doctor.
  7. He made Balthier. Hexed
  8. Damn this is a hard one. Cid with the less votes gets mine. WeissTheImmaculate 22:56, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
  9. Crazyswordsman: It was decided in Magicite Madness.
  10. UndyingvsSephiroth: I would say this Cid, the other one looks cooler, but this Cid is a godly lunatic plus the father of Balthier.
  11. Aleria:Hated him. But because of that, he's such an awesome villain. He pulls off the insane genius perfectly.
  12. Ruler of Oblivion: Villain Cid. I like The Dragoon best, but this Cid all the way.
  13. SCM:Watch FFXII in a Nutshell. That's why.
  14. He's simply cooler. Elcan
  15. I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts. Dum-dum-dum MK
  16. He has a gatling gun and an army of killer robots, nuff' said Blackheart1991 11:06, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
  17. JZ He made Balthier, and Balthier rocks. Not as much as Yuna though. ;)
  18. User:dudutsai: This Cid was cooler by a ton. I dislike Cid Highwind. Shocking, but true.
  19. MeggiedONFF3 This Cid had evil mad scientist, wacky laughter, and graceful exits down to a tee. A refreshing take on Cid. So he gets my vote.
  20. Alcaeus: Seriously, the constant swearing got on my nerves. That's the main reason Mr. Highwind and Barret were never in my party.
  21. Darkling692: Having a god for an ally and a brain that copies the items that give godly power is something to fear if you only have a spear and a airship in your arsenal, my vote goes for the second best Cid ever.
  22. SacredMist: I would definitely go with Dr. Cid. The other Cid is a bit too...crude for my tastes.
  23. Aramis: Machine guns beat spears all the time.
  24. Acropolis: Crazy people are funny.
  25. Ctaylor503: Dr. Evil, I mean evil Dr. Cid rules! S-85 Cyclotrone, baby! Yeah!
  26. Mjka: Crazy people get all the fun. Especially since said crazy person has a giant cannon. Good people get all the pressure. And I love the threads and weapons. Gotta give respect to the man that can make the Manufacted Nethicite.
  27. 8bit_BlackMage: I vote for the one who can summon Rooks and has a bazooka.
  28. Because the fanboys will vote for the Dragoon later on. -- Nelo 03:54, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

  1. Definitely Dr. Cid is the superior Cid. He is intelligently hilarious and has a highly idealistic and unique character. Since he is the ONLY evil Cid, that makes him even more awesome.
  2. Well, this Cid has been the only evil Cid, so I guess that makes him more interesting.
  3. Anyone this crazy has to get my vote. Plus he has a nice costume.
  4. Dr. Cid, definitely. He wears the generic "evil mad scientist" stereotype surprisingly well.
  5. Well he does have a tight ass coat...and he help make Balthier
  6. If he could make a giant gun pop out of nowhere and use it as well as this guy, then maybe Highwind might be a bit of a challenge. But since he can't however, my vote goes to the the doctor that can talk to Venat.
  7. quite possibly the best mad scientist in the series (except maybe Hojo, the wiess thing was pretty cool.) in addition to the giant cannon, summoning an esper, and that strange laugh, he is far superior to the texan stereotype. and the whole "bringing down false gods" bit was pretty damn cool- Exdeath64
  8. Mad scientist Cid gets me. I don't know much of Highwind, since I don't remember 7 much, but I remember XII like the back of my hand. Crazy and helping to make Balthier wins me over.were is the fairness stop deleting coments you nazi
  9. A truly unique Cid; one that isn't necessarily evil, but one that is driven by power and madness to put the world back in the "hands of men"
  10. Someone as psychotic as him has got to win!
  11. He's stylish and arrogant and gleefully demented and doesn't force me to cringe through scenes where he's just a domestically abusive bully (trying to kill Balthier doesn't count).
  12. I've got to go with the malevolent Dr. Cid. He's a power-hungry crazy maniac... loves it.

This is one of the few DNC fights where I can except either losing without getting upset or mad. -- ChiefKakashi 18:47, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

I am pretty much that way in every fight. The only exception was the Materia vs. Junction battle. BOOYAH FFVIII!!! IN YOUR FUCKING FACE!!!! --BlueHighwind 21:55, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

TA, why did you pick this? This was in the Magicite Madness. --Crazyswordsman 00:54, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Upon further review, apparently it was... for some reason I remembered Highwind being in the Dragoon bracket. I suppose I don't remember voting for it. I only rather randomly voted in that, when able, and sometimes just for my amusement. I'm being pressured to do what people want and if people vote for this stuff, I can't very well say 'no' on some level. --TacticAngel 02:18, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
I don't care if it was done before. This is turning into a good match. Their perfectly neck and neck at 10.5 votes each. The mumbling discontented masses should just be quiet. --BlueHighwind 02:42, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
It's quickly becoming one sided. It's currently 14.5 to 20. --ChiefKakashi 19:12, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Its currently 43% to 57%, which is only a blow-out in electoral college or when Hillary wins Pennsylvania by that margin. --TacticAngel 21:13, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
I said it's becoming one-sided. I didn't actually say it's already a blow-out. --ChiefKakashi 21:16, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
this one is rather hard to pick. one is a villain, the other is a party memeber. both are equally great in their own field. --User:VulpineNinja 20 April 2008
Seems still pretty equal to me. RedMage

I'm not sure I should call Dr. Cid evil, but he's definitely mad. Mad for power!! And he's the better engineer, too. Ctaylor503 21:58, 20 April 2008 (UTC) Wow...Only a 2-point difference. This is a good fight after all. --ChiefKakashi 00:04, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

28 to 28 as of this moment. Whoever picked the last two fights deserves a medal (hi TA), they have been nail-biting and I can't decide who to vote for in this one. 8bit BlackMage 01:55, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

@Anon vote no.8 for Dr Cid: to whom is this meant to be directed?

couldn't agree more. at least we know the fight isn't exactly onesided 8) VulpineNinja 23 April 2008

The Mad Scientist is losing... You people really have bad taste in Cids. Dark raven 18:20, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Looks like this one will be another draw and it's only fitting that it is so, IMO. Both Cids are great characters and are equally respected. Bravo and kudos to TA for picking this one. --Tex 21:44, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Real Week 64: Garland v. Kuja[]

Dissidia Garland
Winner!!
DRAW
31½ v. 31½
Dissidia Kuja
In the navy-blue corner, we have the first Final Fantasy Boss, Garland. In the lilac corner, we have the fairest genome in all the land, Kuja. Will Garland knock Kuja down, or will Kuja bitchslap Garland with Ultima?

Votes for Garland[]

  1. Badassness. Oath to Order 23:10, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
  2. Hard for me. I eventully flipped several coins and made the vote for Chaos.--Otherarrow 23:16, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
  3. I, Garland shall knock you all down! Hexed
  4. He has cool armor. -- ChiefKakashi 23:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
  5. Aramis: Garland could knock Kuja down any time...
  6. JARIITX: Garland. Hands down.
  7. VitoRyu: Garland.
  8. FinalFighterA+: oooooh tough one... Wile Kuja is pretty kickass i'm gonna give this to Gsrland for a few reasons; 1. He came first 2. He can KNOCK YOU ALL DOWN! 3. He became the embodiment of chaos, and thats pure awesome.
  9. Cheesewow:I love Garland, and he is losing. Need I remind you all that he used some weird paradox that makes no sense to be at the present and the past AT THE SAME TIME, turning him into the EMBODIMENT OF CHAOS. Plus I like emphasizing and italicing AT THE SAME TIME, which I'm sure Garland could do a lot better then Kuja.
  10. Henryacorers: Garland is badass, Kuja needs trance to be it. Garland has a huge sword which divides in two, Kuja is bare-handed. Garland made a destructive 2000-year loop, Kuja destroyed an ugly planet.
  11. Blackheart1991: Ok two things Kuja's androgynous (he looks like a chick), and garland is a black knight who can transform into Chaos (the #*&^ing endgame boss)!!
  12. Crimnesi Rex: Garland is the original villain from the FF series, Kuja is just the puppet of a character of the same name, shame the old man plays such a minimal role in FFIX. I remember once I deliberatley let him kill me just to see all his moves. Any real fan of Final Fantasy would vote Garland over Kuja, then again disappointgly few people have played the early titles in the series. For those of you unfamiliar with Final Fantasy, Garland is a damn sight harder and more challenging than Kuja and Trance Kuja put together and is perhaps the most worthy adversary except for maybe Sephiroth.
  13. Big mamou:Like Hexed and Aramis said...Garland can knock stuff down. Plus in the original NES game he is the only NPC that you can talk to who will say more than one thing, during his speech at the end of the game. That's right, he can defy the laws of NPC physics and the laws of time/space.
  14. The Chocobo Knight: I don't have anything against Kuja but COME ON...this is Garland we're talking about here...Garland!
  15. User:clvabl: Garland the best yo
  16. Jammi568: Because he doesn't mave gender issues. Not that i have an issue with this, just that is you're going to be the main villian, then you better dress approprate to your gender, and if you're not sure of that, then, well....problems arise (see above picture of Kuja).
  17. MeggiedONFF3: Kuja is one of the worst villians, bosses, whatever in any of the series. I just can't take a guy with a tail seriously.
  18. Arausio: Garland shall knock him down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Ctaylor503: Garland is the archetypal fantasy villain; everyone else is a derivative.
  20. I have yet to meet Kuja in IX, so all I have to base this off of is design....--Oranejo 02:35, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
  21. Corrino: Was This Not Meant To Be IX Garland VS Kuja ???? Either Way I Garland Still Is Alot Better Than Kuja.
  22. Chaos40: Garland is the better one here for me whether we're talking about the I or the IX version. Kuja's big master plan wasn't even his own, he was just carrying out Garland's orders. And for those of you who are going to say that Kuja almost destroyed existance. He only did that because he found out he wasn't immortal and threw a tantrum like a six-year old. Not cool. Garland wins.
  23. DarknessGarland is better, because his picture. But it was a tie, I had no coin.
  24. Silent Meiousei:Go, Go, Garland!!!
  25. Acropolis I'm going to go for the one not wearing the man-thong.
  26. RedMage: FF1 beats anything. Hands down. Garland was the origional Final Fantasy villian, it's time he was given his dues, he's been in the buisness a long, long time. Kuja? He's good, but nostaligia blows him out of the water.
  27. SCM: It is taking me a lot of willpower to not make any jokes about Kuja. But c'mon, Garland could easily beat up Kuja. And if it was Trance Kuja, Chaos would kick his arse.
  28. TacticAngel: I find both of them to be decent baddies. Today I'm feeling more like Garland though.

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Garland kicks ass, unless he was the Garland from 8-bit theater... Then he would kick Major Ass(from the 8th royal reserve unit {too be honest the Major is kind of a pushover})
  2. Kuja is cool, but the original Final Fantasy villain could knock him down!
  3. I Garland, IX Garland: Both awesome Characters. Kuja should stop trying.
  4. Let's see, do I go with the disturbingly androgynous pretty-boy who's only good with magic and can't do anything physical, or the evil dark knight who becomes the Lord of Demons? No contest. I, Garland, will knock Kuja down!
  5. Garland ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Garland is a beast. He'd have Kuja crying in a corner in seconds.
  7. CeKain Garland will knock Kuja down.

Votes for Kuja[]

  1. NickCaligo42: Let's see. Manipulative, clever, dastardly megalomaniac with a flair for Shakespearean works versus a shallow, dimensionless villain from a stone-age game whose most notable trait is a quote made out of a poor translation. I don't care who Garland thinks he can knock down. Kuja buries him as far as I'm concerned! He even turned the game's mechanics against the main characters. His only problem is that he let the OTHER Garland pick out his clothes.
  2. User:JoJo174: I played ff1 and beat it but i am only half way through nine. Even though i'm only this far, I still think that Kuja owns Garland.
  3. Rydiaofmist: I agree that using "cross-dressing" as an insult is stupid and childish. Personally, I've always been attracted to "feminine" men. For that reason, and for many others I'm casting my vote for Kuja. He's manipulative, sexy, and has an awesome dragon.
  4. Alcaeus: Kuja is my favorite villian.
  5. Pablo618: Hard one. I really don't know who to vote for: Coin flip =(
  6. 8bit_BlackMage: Garland didn't have enough backstory. Kuja has Ultima and made slaves of Bahamut and Alexander.
  7. Because there are far too many unoriginal people who use "Cross-dressing" as a cheap insult. Shut up, and find something new to say you pathetic robots. Program yourself for independent thought. And Kuja destroyed existance, doesn't that count for anything? --BlueHighwind 00:21, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
  8. Bob the geomancer
  9. This is a rather interesting fight choice. I expect it shall turn out to be quite one-sided, but we'll see, won't we? Well, if you need to ask why I would vote for Kuja, then you are clearly ...well... dumb. I mean, Garland CAN knock you all down, but Kuja can knock you all down with raining pink death-bombs. Garland has a giant sword, but Kuja has a giant dragon. Garland kidnapped a princess, but Kuja kidnapped a queen and her airship...and stowed her in a volcano. That's a progressive leader thinking ahead for our futures, people. --RB
  10. Kurenai Samurai I shan't take it if Kuja loses again. The man is a genius, he's poetic and refined. Plus, I happen to -like- his outfit. He looks good in it. X3 We luff you, Kuja! <3
  11. User:VulpineNinja: He's definitely my favourite villain. He's not exactly the stereotype villain because he seems to be a crossdresser. I can't say that he is one, he is a Genome so we can't compare him with normal (uncrossdressing) humans. At least he regrets his actions in the end...
  12. Kuja, always a good coice. He's a great villain, one of the most competent amongst FF baddies. His really only fault is his appearance but, Trance makes up for that by making him look alot cooler(for him anayway). Yep...if Final Fantasy IX were more popular I wouldn't complain if Kuja was as popular as some other losers villains in the series. --AnonyMan 01:55, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
  13. Chocolancer: Garland is ok, but he's not much of a villain because you don't see him until the end of the game...Kuja makes his presence known from time to time and is third place in my best villains category.
  14. Lockhart: No even close. Garland just doesn't have any depth. Kuja on the other hand, not that bad. Not the best villian, but way better than Garland.
  15. Sora_Rainstorm: Nope, haven't played FF one all the way through yet, so obviously I'm going for girly Kuja. He's one of my top favorite villians anyways. Let's see; he has a cool theme, rides a white dragon, and seems to have the guts to actually wear an outfit like that in public. And oh yeah, has the ability to control summon beasts like Bahamut and Odin. Yes, we had great times together... Great times. I was actually sad to see him go at the end because of his change of heart. He only wanted to be loved, that's why he said he didn't want to die alone. I'll always remember you. Fear not! Because I still have saved files of you so we can fight again and have the beautiful cutscenes. Farewell Kuja... *sniff*
  16. Alexander Namingway: Garland looks cooler but: Kuja is a schemer, Kuja has a PET DRAGON, Kuja enslaved BAHAMUT, Kuja knows ULTIMA, and Kuja just has much more depth than any villian that ever came from the NES era. (and he has a tail, Hooray)
  17. Adam mcduck: Garland ........ is my LEAST favourite villain ever. Kuja is my 2nd favourite so it's kind of obvious I'd choose him.
  18. tomtheroadkill: I personally like neither of them. But, to be honest, Kuja is better than Garland. Kuja has much more to do and goes about it in a better fashion than FF1's Garland ever did.
  19. Blykus 08:41, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
  20. Darkling692: Kuja kills Garland, any of them.
  21. Xadren: Kuja is, and will always be, better than Garland.
  22. Elcan: If it were the IX Garland there might be a challenge, with the whole midieval Vader style, but this isn't hard. Besides, dressing like a clown, dressing like Neo and dressing like a drag queen aren't so normal either...
  23. exdeath64- ultima, need i say more?
  24. Xmd5a: Watch the cutscene where he demolishes Terra, then try to tell me Kuja doesn't absolutely pwn in every sense of the word.
  25. arcanedude34: I vote for Kuja, who is NOT a crossdresser. Many men wear thongs. Just.... not many choose to wear nothing else. I just vote for Kuja over Garland due to the awesome way in which the former offed the latter. Muahahahahahaha.
  26. Jordanlee24: Kuja because basically you see a lot more of him during the game. In addition, you can see Kuja's personality developing throughout the game resulting in him threatening the whole of Gaia and Terra. On the other hand, Garland wants to defeat everyone carelessly whereas Kuja had a plan. Garland is like The Incredible Hulk lol
  27. Aleria: Well, not having played either game, I have to go with Kuja simply because he looks cooler.
  28. craigrules14: all i can say is he gets my vote, to many reasons to list...

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Kuja has a good past which gives him a reason to destroy everything. His clothes aren't that bad. He's got a silver dragon. And, in the end he realizes his mistakes.
  2. Kuja. Just... Kuja. Abooya.
  3. Troy: This was a tough vote. I have to go with Kuja because he brought us Vivi. Also can't help but notice all the crossdresser comments are on this side and don't seem to be being used for Garland.
  4. Kuja... mainly because he had a personality, a backstory, an agenda, and shows up more than five minutes for the entire game.
  5. Kuja defiantly. One Kuja is awsomer, two He doesn't look like a Demon.
  6. Kuja as far as im concerned he pulls off his outfit and has way more character development than garland. Villains are more enjoyable when theres some complexity to them.
  7. Kuja is simply awesome, whereas Garland is merely amusing. He looks awesome (though I shan't go any deeper into that); even if it wasn't his final goal, he did destroy a planet; he's so wonderfully theatrical, and finally, he has got the prettiest base I have ever seen, in addition to an auction house and a silver dragon.

Peanut Gallery[]

Remember, no one make any cross-dresser, gender-confused or gay comments about Kuja. --Alcaeus

No... please... do. I love my test templates. --TacticAngel 23:14, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
And I love to bitch about the amount of homophobic remarks on this wikia. What test templates are you talking about? --Alcaeus
The ones he hands out like candy. =D Cloudofdarkness 23:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
I probably shouldn't link that comment AK made about TA then... Oath to Order 23:37, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh please do. I'm up for a lark. --BlueHighwind 00:21, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
I don't see what the huge fuss is about commenting on Kuja. What's the difference between calling him a cross dresser and shouting death threats at Yuffie? The former may offend cross-dressers and the latter may offend Yuffie-fans. Why do we persecute a single sector of speech over others? I can see giving out test templates for obscene slurs or making real people the target of mean-spirited comments, but seriously. I think Kuja is somewhat apparel-confused, but I don't see why it would offend some. 8bit BlackMage 23:48, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Because liking or hating Yuffie is an opinion. For some people, cross-dressing is part of who they are. --Alcaeus

One thing that's bothering me is why is Kuja fighting Garland(FF1)? --Alcaeus

Your statement was rhetorical. People like or dislike someone or something because of who/what they are or they aren't, whether it's because Kuja "cross-dresses", Yuffie is a "annoying as hell", or Laguna is "a #$%^ing idiot". We can dislike real people because they are annoying as hell, are ^%&#ing idiots, or are cross-dressers. And I think Kuja would destroy the FF9 Garland, because people would dislike him for being a minor plot device that no one knows about, died fairly quickly, and blathered on and on incessantly during the final dungeon. 8bit BlackMage 00:42, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Got that right, Garlic is one of the most incessent blatherers in Final Fantasy history. He's also the biggest nut-job ever. A really funny bunny. --BlueHighwind 00:59, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Because disliking or making fun of cross-dressers is a form of discrimination. Check out the third bullet on this page for more information. To all the people that complain about Kuja being gender-confused: What makes Kuja "gender-confused?" He is not wearing women's clothing, he doesn't even act like a woman and he never mentions wanting to be a woman. Therefore, he's not "gender-confused," he's just pretty. --Alcaeus

Why doesn't this fight get an introductory paragraph? Every other fight gets one.Adam mcduck

Blykus: This was a bit of an unfair vote on my part, since I haven't played the original Final Fantasy.

Don't worry you're not missing much if you haven't. Garland's really was only around the very begining and the very end of the game. He may have been the First FF Villain but nostalgia alone won't make you a good one. Though, Garland isn't THAT bad. AnonyMan 15:53, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

UGH. Seeing that pic of Kuja makes me cringe. I'm boycotting this fight until TA decides to use a pic of Garland without a big ugly sword and a pic of Kuja that's not reeking of Nomura. --Crazyswordsman 18:27, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I think its the fairest set of illustrations since they are equivalently well rendered and in the same style whereas the Amano illustrations really don't look convincingly like something we remember seeing in a game. I'm looking forward to seeing Desidia, or whatever, though. I can almost guarantee it will suck though. --TacticAngel 19:26, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
CSM, stop complaining and just vote. --Alcaeus
I think Kuja's picture's fine mainly because it's impossible for him to look any worse(Trance gets a pinch of coolness), and his Dissida picture is slightly similar to his Amano Picture. Garland's picture is ok, but that Sword is just dumb. Not a fan of Nomura or Amano(but his best art is from FFIX so he gets the nod). AnonyMan 19:43, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
I may be alone when I say "Yoshida FTW." --TacticAngel 21:07, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm also a Yoshida supporter. Then again, my support of him fell a hell of a lot after he designed FFXII. What was he smoking when he made Vaan? --BlueHighwind 22:11, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Vaan's cool. Only bad thing about his design is his hair. His lack of a shirt is annoying but you get used to it. And it gives him a bit of an Aladdin look. They're are plenty of other wrose designs in XII, like Basch or Reddas. And Reks, wearing crap like that is no wonder he went out like a sucka. AnonyMan 22:39, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Don't you dare knock Reddas! He's badass enough to wear whatever he wants. The pink pants just show how evolved he is. "I don't care if I look fruity, I'm still a black mothafucka out for blood". Vaan however, proves himself to be just as lame as his outfit suggests (Aladdin doesn't have spray-painted abs). At least Reks died fighting for his country. Vaan just hung around like an idiot. --BlueHighwind 22:50, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm not knocking Reddas, he was indeed cool. Just didn't look cool. I'm just annoyed at everyone hating on Vaan. And no Penelo hung around like an Idiot, he was there because of her. Just becuase Vaan doesn't have some "deep" backstory or focus doesn't mean he's not awesome. And again about the abs, really not a problem. AnonyMan 23:19, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, Yoshida didn't design Garland or Kuja. And Nomura butchered them the way he did Setzer (oh, and I will NOT let you use Setzer's KH pic if you put him in a fight. Yes, Yoshida is a very, very talented designer and I never said anything bad about him. I love his work (except Vaan and Larsa, but he fixed Vaan up for FFTA2). --Crazyswordsman 05:14, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually it does. Vaan has no purpose other than to annoy me. I can't stand how every time I walk into any town I have to look at his ugly mug. I can't stand his voice, I can't stand his clothing, and I can't stand his personality (what little of it there is). Never once does Vaan have anything interesting to say. There are four better characters in the party and countless outside of it, but instead we have little prissy no-shirt as the supposed hero. Vaan managed to prove exactly everything what Final Fantasy's detractors were saying for years, just when the series was beginning to get past all its old cliches. He's fanservice for little Japanese school girls who like yoai guys for some self-destructive reason. Nothing more. --BlueHighwind 23:25, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Hey! not all japanese schoolgirls are like that. You are discriminating the whole group of Japanese girls and that really is not cool. >:(
Alright, I'll agree with the fanservice bit, he didn't need to get catapulted into "Hero" status, then again he's not really the hero just the character who's point of view you're playing from. He's still not bad and doesn't deserve all the flak, he has a decent personality. The rest of the party weren't that spectacularly interesting either, Ashe was annoying, Fran is especially guilty she's the most boring in the party and has the worst attire.AnonyMan 23:38, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
  • When I said introduction that's not what I had in mind ... Adam mcduck

I don't know why people complain about the abundance of androgynous characters in FF or about crossdressing. What does that have to do with anything? Not to mention that basically every video game, anime and manga out of Japan has them. Seriously, there's nothing to get worked up over; just because a character looks girly, it doesn't mean that they are bad. I personally like girly characters (not that they are hard to find). And Kuja is hardly girly as compared to say, Ritsu, Lucius or Ranka YuanchosaanSalutations! 03:50, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Or Haku. Oath to Order 03:53, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Waitaminute, Lucius a guy!? On a side, note, also Kazuki and nonetheless, Arc System character everyone is gay for.--OlegnaOlen 12:36, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Elcan: Is the intro for this fight vandalism or not? I can't tell.

I invite someone to write an intro that doesn't have to do with kittens. Adam wanted an intro though, so... we have one. --TacticAngel 17:25, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Well it did seem stupid that it had no intro as every other fight gets one. But, like I said, kittens wasn't what I had in mind, so I'm glad it's changed. Adam mcduck

A few people voted for Garland based on his and Kuja's appearance. Has no one heard of the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover?" Kuja has more personality than almost all of the FF villians combined. --Alcaeus

This person speaks some truth. I figure most people who cite that reason as to not vote for Kujap probably haven't played IX to know how good of a character/villain he is. AnonyMan 22:43, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Sometimes if you have not read the book all you have to judge by is the cover, and since this is just a fun little contest with fictional characters there really is no harm in it.--Oranejo 00:22, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
But there are still links to each character's page. If a person doesn't know anything about the character, he or she can just check out their background info. It's a better alternative than just voting for someone because the other character has a feminine appearance. --Alcaeus

This matchup's been the most balanced and evened out in a long while. Though Kuja should be blowing Garland out the water, it's just another testament of FFIX's obscurity. AnonyMan

Sigh, more people are interested in Hexedmagica's popularity contest, that even the DNC hasn't had someone vote in a while. Come on Kuja, bitchslap Garland back into obscurity! --Alcaeus

As a side noted comment since there is a bit of talk and votes on it, I like the complexity and character development of Kuja I must give him that. However I find that IX Garland (which is what I thought this battle was for originally) is more complex and if given the chance would of had very good development. Is there any comments anyone would like to add on this or IX Garland in general? Corrino
Garland is an odd character. He really becomes a main part of the story near the end of Disk 3 and dies shortly after. Then he starts spouting nonsense in Memoria (Like that one memory of Garnet and her mother being Zidane's memory rather than Garnet's memory). While he did a lot more than Final Fantasy I's Garland, he was overshadowed by Kuja. After all, Kuja did kill him (after the main party weakened him). There really isn't that much info on FFIX's Garland to make him memorable. It's not even known who/what he was. He could have been a genome, a robot or even Garland(FFI). --Alcaeus

Is this FFI Garland or FFIX Garland? Cuz if it's FFIX Garland, then I'm going to laugh at all the people who are saying Garland can beat Kuja in a fight.--Arcanedude34

"In the navy-blue corner, we have the first Final Fantasy Boss, Garland." RedMage

You know, if CeKain would have put his vote in the user section instead of the Anon section, Garland would have won by half a point. XD...This fight was actually close, I like that. --Oranejo 00:05, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
If you are a user, please include your vote in the user section. If you are not a user, please include your vote in the anonymous section. It is important to do this because votes carry different weight and votes leftsection in the wrong section will be deleted. That means this vote shouldn't be counted at all. Dark raven

Oops Week 64: Vayne Carudas Solidor v. Seymour Guado[]

Winner!!
Vayne

36 v. 22

FFX Seymour Art
The evil Prince versus the maester of Yevon and leader of the guado, which one can assume is something like a misspelled Master. Which of these cunning, powerful autocrats has the brains, power, and ability to see himself through to victory?

Votes for Vayne[]

  1. Mymindislost: Seymour sucks, Vayne doesn't. What more do I need to say? :P
  2. ChiefKakashi: God...I bet this fight is gonna suck more than the last one...
  3. Adam mcduck: Seymour sucked.
  4. Of all the fights to repeat, this was certainly one of the worst. Even I have to comment on what a bad idea this was. Who ever liked Seymour? Nobody. --BlueHighwind.
  5. I hate Seymour, I hate Seymour, I hate Seymour. He sucked so much.Cheesewow
  6. Bob the geomancer 19:35, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
  7. Crazyswordsman: I seem to remember this one done in recent memory. And Seymour sucks big giant hairy donkey balls.
  8. MK: Sarcasm: Who doesn't love a villain that talks like he's chocking on a breadstick and has a potbelly? Kimono ftw.
  9. Does there need to be a reason? 8bit BlackMage 21:57, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
  10. Crimsonshadow619: Are you kidding me?! Seymour was the worst damn villain ever. And look at the facts. They each have 4 forms. The major differences, Seymour is always a damn puzzle fight as opposed to a straight on brawl whereas Vayne goes through all forms in one series of fights and he just gets tougher each time. Also, I'll take the steroid abuse freak over the shiny happy people freak any day.
  11. Otherarrow: Vayne is much better than Seymour. Even I know that.
  12. Alcaeus: Hmm...there is only one villian who is worse than Seymour, and that's Shuyin, who is a combination of Tidus and Seymour.
  13. Hexed
  14. JARIITX: Let's see....both villains slew their fathers in cold blood and both villains imposed their will on their respective worlds....When the smoke clears, Vayne gets my vote simply because he makes up a better series of boss fights than Seymour. I.E. The Undying > Seymour Omnis
  15. VitoRyu: Vayne.
  16. Hydronisa: Hmm, toughie... Seymour was fun to despise, but I think I have to hand it to a man that absorbed enough Methacite to conjour Flying Swords... not to mention his epic transformation into the most notable Final Fantasy character ever... BAHAMUT!!
  17. tomtheroadkill: Never liked Seymour (only liked Anima). Vayne has to have my vote. Very slick villain, plus the fact that he is transformed into something very similar to Bahamut at the end gives him the best edge.
  18. Darkling692: This is so easy, I go with the guy that only have to die once in the game, and has a brain.
  19. Dark raven: Sooo much better.
  20. Elcan: Forget the fact that Vayne could kick Seymour's ass in looks, style, voice, fighting, you name it; but Seymour simply wasn't important enough to the plot, while Vayne practicaly became a god! Not much to think about.
  21. Ctaylor503: I don't know Seymore, and none of the comments on either side of this battle have been particularly persuasive, so I'm voting for Vayne.
  22. Xmd5a: The only thing standing between Seymour and meh-Ville is his mum. Vayne has quite a bit more going for him, and his final incarnations are tons cooler than Seymour's.
  23. Chaos40: I'm going to vote for Vayne purely because his master plan was a wee bit more feasible than Seymour's. Plus his lines were a bit more memorable and better acted. The only thing Seymour has going for him is the Seymour Omnis battle music which was awesomely good.
  24. Silent Meiousei: Mmm...I love his brother. Also...I dislike Seymour very much.
  25. dudutsai: Seymore was so annoying as a character and as an enemy. I hated him tons. Vayne on the other hand is one of my favorite villains.
  26. Masamune: Hate Seymour's voice, first of all. But Vayne is kinda like the perfect villain, so that's really the main reason I'm voting this way.
  27. Aleria: Vayne has better hair. And I like XII better than X
  28. Mjka: Ugh. Could someone please make sure Seymour goes to the Farplane and STAYS THERE? Where he belongs? Stupid never dying blue haired freak.
  29. craigrules14: seymour is a douche and so this dude gets my vote
  30. Alexander Namingway: Vayne was cunning and charasmatic. Also, he ended up being a kick ass final boss. Seymour was just creepy in more ways than one. He may have had Anima, but this is competition between Vayne and Seymour, not Vayne and Anima.
  31. SCM: Grrr... Suckiness.

Anonymous votes[]

  1. At least Vayne was a likeable character, the only thing likeable about Seymour was Anima.
  2. EmuMaster: Haven't played 12 so Vayne gets the benefit of the doubt.
  3. Vayne is AWESOME. Seymour sucks Muffin's balls.
  4. Ruthless-he would kill his own brother for power. C-moar is just a freak (and not in a good way)
  5. Vayne is awesome, and so much better than Seymour. I shall forever hate Seymour. And Seymour isn't that important to me. Vayne is. Go XII!
  6. vayne was far superior to Seymour, no obsession with a odd monster, and he did not make a pass at one of the main cast- exdeath64
  7. UndyingvsSephiroth: i don't know seymour well, but Vayne is a whole lot better and the guy's final form is awesome looking and so is his attacks. I vote for Vayne
  8. RMX: I'm voting Vayne. He can pretend to be a good guy. Seymour is obvious: Just listen to his voice, dammit! (He sounds like .hack//G.U.'s Endrance)
  9. I don't know who the heck Seymour is, so Vayne it is.
  10. Vayne is better because he was able to get what he wants through political manipulation like Palpatine in SW, or Ceasar. All Seymour ever wanted was to feed his plant so Audrey would love him... wait a minute.

Votes for Seymour[]

  1. Rydiaofmist: I'm going with Seymour, since Vayne never really made that much of an impression on me. Seymour, however, is the guy that most people love to hate. He's arrogant, condescending, and snide. He's the type of character that gets under your skin, and hence does his job as a villain. Vayne, on the other hand, was forgettable.
  2. Oath to Order 18:52, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
  3. Dr. Crisp 19:28, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
  4. Henryacores: Why to vote on a sockpuppet? Again!!!??
  5. Pablo618
  6. Woot for seymour! Superaeon35 21:46, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
  7. Acropolis: Let's just think for a moment on how little screen time Vayne had. His character barely developed for christ's sake. Seymour however has blue hair, isn't that evil enough for you? And now I think on it: Anima.
  8. Sora_Rainstorm: My vote is for Seymour. Why? Because I haven't played FFXII yet, so I haven't the slightest clue what the character of this Vayne guy is. Besides, Seymour has a pretty cool hairstyle. Good enough to be evil. Anyone who wants to be the next Sin and kill all of Spira has my vote. That's right, kill Tidus and all the past annoying FF characters and send them to the Farplane! You have a super strong aeon; Anima, use it for God's sakes! You go evil Maester Seymour!
  9. Blykus 08:39, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
  10. Xadren: He's completely insane and mad, but I like him as a villain more than Jecht (who's not a villain so why he's the bad guy?!). Anyway Seymour himself kills his father and wants power.
  11. Jammi568: Better last theme music.
  12. Khakishro Hey Seymour ISN'T as bad as all these other people claim! Now just because people hate Tidus doesnt mean they should bring down everyone from FFX with him! Seymour was powerful mage and his summon rocked. Now I also like Vayne..but he really didn't know the main characters.
  13. Bartz235: Vayne was an ok villian, seeing as how he kind of had good intentions. Seymour was just one of thost villians that you love to hate. He was a powerful mage, summoner and was a psycho. He is a lot better than Vayne.
  14. Lockhart: Final Fantasy XII was nearly perfect. The only thing I didn't like was the main villian, Vayne. Seymour may not be my favorite villian, but he's works for me more than Vayne does.
  15. Bluesilver I'm not saying that i like Seymour because i hate him; but Vayne just plain sucks. i say Cid was the main villan in XII not Vayne. what did he do? Seymour almost caused a Genocide and wanted to cause many others by becoming a relentless killing machine.
  16. Jordanlee24 Aaahhh... This is a good one. They are both crazy, mad megalomaniacs but it's definetely got to be Seymour because for one, he came back three times after being killed the first time and his lust for power made him completely evil. You just had to look at him and you would think of evil. Vayne, however doesn't come under that category and his good intentions let him down.
  17. CeKainI don't know much about either so I pick Seymour.

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Vayne is cool, but Seymour is one of the only villians that seemed 100% evil to me. The guy killed his own FATHER to become more powerful, thats pure evil in my eyes.
  2. I hated them both, but i'll go with the one who can summon Anima, cuz Anima doesn't suck.
  3. Vayne isn't really all to evil, and neither was Seymour, but Seymour had that twisted creepy logic that I loved so much "Pretend I didn't say it." I mean come on!
  4. While both are completely evil, the twist that Seymour was really an unsent added such a crazy twist to the plot of the story that he has to get my vote.
  5. OK Seymour Hands down, true his face is scary but, he actually knew who he was fighting.
  6. Seymour is the obvious choice here, as he was a power-hungry, half-breed, Anima-summoning, world-destroying (well, almost) BEAST AT LIFE who you actually get to control (albeit onl for one battle, but still). Plus, he has FOUR FORMS. Three of which involve an annoying sub-boss (which serves to make the fight more challenging) and one of which involves frickin' ANIMA. Do I see this with Vayne? I THINK NOT.
  7. I feel like I could get inside Seymour's head more than Vayne. Plus, Anima was wicked. Turning your mother into the hideous, yet highly effective creature to be tortured for eternity?... Priceless
  8. Definitely Seymour. Although Vayne was highly sophisticated and just awesome, he was never really the PERSISTENT type of villain Seymour was. You actually learn as to why Seymour was so insane, since you find out his tragic past. Vayne never confronted the characters until the ending, so he really didn't cause as much strife to the characters, let alone really KNOW them. Besides Anima was AWESOME.
  9. Vayne is just a bitch.
  10. Seymour. First, and I think possibly most important, is that he can summon Anima which(if the game allowed for others to be fighting while Aeons are on the field) would mean that he can own you in two ways at the same time. Two, he is persistent and psychotic, a good mix considering how tough he is. Third, already he's dead and still fights you, I think that wins hands down.

Henryacores: Why did you repeat this fight?

This must be a rematch of Fight 32, eh TA? [^_^]/ 18:59, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
That fight was a landslide victory for Vayne. Why repeat it? Who in their right minds would vote for Seymour? --BlueHighwind 19:20, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
If you're gonna repeat one, at least make sure it was done at least 50 fights ago.

--Crazyswordsman 19:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Hm... interesting. I will have to review. --TacticAngel 20:06, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

You Seymour supporters need to justify your reasoning. --Crazyswordsman 19:54, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Why didn't we just have Balthier vs. Gogo on this? It would have the same outcome. -- ChiefKakashi 22:26, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey guys, I have a suggestion for the next fight... >_> --Mymindislost 22:41, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! This is easily the worst fight I have seen on the DNC! Was it even suggested on the Discussion page!? --User:AlcaeusTheWizard

Yes, and thats because your democracy sucks. --TacticAngel 23:11, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
So does this fight matter or not? --BlueHighwind 00:22, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
It matters every bit as much as the rest of this. --TacticAngel 01:48, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Blykus: This was a tough decision to make. Both are great villains, in my opinion.

Week 63: Yuffie Kisaragi v. Rikku[]

Yuffie-FFVIIArt
Winner!!
Rikku
FFX Artwork Rikku

50 ½ v. 27

FFX Artwork Rikku
Well, it's that time again! This week, two bubbly ditz type characters face off in a catfight! In the nausea corner, the "ninja" that doesn't act like a ninja should, the Wutai Whambulance hereslf, Yuffie Kisaragi! And in the fluffy corner, making her long anticipated debut here at the DNC (probably the last character to be here), the Al Bhed Burninator, Rikku!

Votes for Yuffie[]

  1. Netherith She's a good character, a competitive opponant in Kingdom Hearts, good comedy relief in the games.
  2. BlueHighwind: They both suck. And I mean really suck. However you don't have to hear Yuffie's voice, so that's something there. Plus I wasn't willing to take the six-week correspondence course required to learn all the BILLION of possible combinations for Mix. Not worth the trouble.
  3. CloudStrifexoxo: I liked Yuffie. Rikku was ok but... I liked Yuffie more.
  4. MeggiedONFF3: Rikku was annoying. Beyond annoying. She could stand on the pinnacle of annoying, looking out upon her vast kingdom of annoyance and giggle. Plus its been such a long time since I've played FF VII that I can't quite remember Yuffie. So maybe she wasn't that bad.
  5. Cheesewow- I HATE Rikku. I can still recall her voice, doing stuff to my brain that I thought you needed a hot blade to do. No matter how annoying Yuffie is (which I don't know, haven't played ff7), she does not make you want to rip your ears off and shove a cork into the bloody hole.
  6. dudutsai What BlueHighwind said. Also Yuffie wasn't in FFX-2
  7. Adam Mcduck: Because they are both so rubbish in terms of personality (although I didn't mind Yuffie's; it just wasn't that of a ninja) I am basing them on usefulness. Yuffie wins that because 'Doom of the Living' was better than 'Mix'.
  8. Khakishro Although I like to challenge the Final Fantasy VII characters popularity, I have to go with Yuffie.I used her way more then I used Rikku, as I used her as a replacement for Aeris in ways. In FFX, once Tidus, Yuna or Auron learned Steal, that was the end for Rikku lol. But I have nothing against Rikku.
  9. Xadren I love FF7 and although I liked very much FFX, these two games cannot be compared. Also...c'mon! Selphie, Eiko, Rikku and Penelo cannot exist without Yuffie: she is their prototype (with Relm, of course :))!
  10. Etch what dudutsai said. hated X-2 with a passion, i dont even consider it a final fantasy i hated it so much
  11. I can Cream sephrioth with yuffie Bob the geomancer 17:17, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
  12. AnonyMan: They're both lame. Rikku was and looked alot cooler when she wore the diving suit and didn't talk much, after that, less said the better...then there's X-2. Yeah, Yuffie's not much better as a character and personality go, but at least she's an optional character in FFVII. And her sidequest was fun and the Turks were there, that's always a plus. I like Al Bheds too, they're pretty cool JUST not Rikku. She'd be cool if she wasn't....uh, Rikku.
  13. Blykus: Rikku wasn't a bad character by any means, but I've come to like Yuffie over the past couple of years. She was entertaining in Dirge of Cerberus and I was endlessly amused by the nine year old version of her in Crisis Core.
  14. Chocolancer: I don't usually come here at the DNC cuz all the fights are one-sided, but ahh well...I can't decide on both but I'll go with Yuffie instead...her appearance in Advent Children rocks!
  15. himbo: Shit, this was hard...but I guess I'm going with Yuffie and staying true to my FFVII fandom. =]
  16. skoot85: I like Yuffie simply because of the scrapyishness, and sneakiness of the character. Regarding Rikku though I have to agree with AnonyMan on this one though. "She'd be cool if she wasn't....uh, Rikku." She was a part of the travesty that was Final Fantasy X-2 and made that game even more painful every time she came on screen. There is simply no way I can vote for her.
  17. Kami strife: Sorry, Rikku, you're great, but I have to vote for Yuffs on this one. Yuffie has All Creation, which was a great final limit break, as well as an awesome weapon (the Conformer was MUCH better than Rikku's claw-thingies). And, over the course of Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus, Yuffie's character has evolved. My vote is with Yuffie, without a doubt.
  18. Silent Meiousei: Yuffie is losing...*sob*...I like them both...But Yuffie...You are awesome!!!
  19. Hiddensilver: She appeared during my first forest battle during my last playthrough, so Yuffie's on my good side right now. That, and I still have to get a PS2 to play FFX. ._.;
  20. SCM: The lesser of two evils.
  21. Corrino: We can't let it be a landslide + Yuffie is alot more intersting with all the wutai stuff than Rikku.
  22. User:Clvabl: Yuffie that is all yo
  23. Falbub: I like Yuffie's weapons and costumes better. Plus, she's a NINJA. A rather ditzy ninja, true, but that's still a ninja.
  24. blackheart1991 yuffie is so much better then Rikku, she actually has personality and doesn't laugh whenever someone talks!(that and rikku is some $%^#ed up hybrid class)

Anonymous votes[]

  1. ??????: She is the champion of the earth and the sky. She is the conqueror of evil, the single white rose of Wutai. Yuffie Kisargi! Although she might be considered a ditz, it takes the right character to run a country well. She isn't just a materia theif, she's a Princess. She isn't one to just let her birthplace become a place just for tourists. No, she's going to make it a wonderful country in and of itself with it's own traditions and customs, the grat place it once was. She's intelligent, kind, polite and caring. Sometimes, she speaks without thinking due to personality, inexperience, youth or a combination of the three in some way. That's fine. It's normal for someone as big hearted as she. She loves children, showing concern when the children in Wutai disapear, presumably from Geostigma, and calling Cloud about it. She stands up for what she believes in and that makes her an excellent character. She is willing to go through air sickness to help Cloud defeat Bahamut in Advent Children and to escape with Vincent in Dirge of Cerberus. Also, to show her intelligence, she looks like she has no trouble with technology except when she bumps her head on it. On the other side, she's a ninja. She was trained since she was young and she's very good at what she does. Being able to steal something from someone with reflexes like Cloud's should be commended. She weilds a large Shuriken which shows she has strength and able to throw it and hit the tagret with relative ease which shows excellent accuracy. All in all, Yuffie is my choice out of the two of them. She goes the extra mile with a smile. One has to look beyond the superficial appearence and mannerisms of a cheerful child to see her true persona.
  2. Rikku is great, but Yuffie has my vote. Go Yuffie!
  3. Jimbo Cactaur votes for Yuffie, better personality, better combat ability, nuff said.
  4. I've only played FF12 and the Kingdom Hearts series, so I barely know anything about these characters. I do know that Yuffie's a ninja, and I fought her in Kingdom Hearts, so GO YUFFIE!
  5. Rikku is annoying and has poor english(Good Al Bhed though). Also yuffie was a much better character and had a better story.
  6. Yuffie rocks. We're fans of ffVII. but we have nothing against Rikku

Votes for Rikku[]

  1. Bwana hakunamatata: Rikku was exiled and even hated, but she is Rikku, cheerful, Careful, and open-minded. That's my Rikku of Al Bhed!!! Come on, blow up yuffie with your machina!!!!
  2. Rydiaofmist: I like both of these characters but Rikku has the edge for me. She's a very loyal friend, and her mix command was loads of fun!
  3. Crazyswordsman: I'm going with the character that used to be cool instead of the one that wasn't cool to begin with. Rikku saves lives in the Monster Arena with her Mixing, and she's not that annoying (Yuffie is far worse....), at least until you take FFX-2 into consideration where she becomes one of the worst characters of all time. But I will not think of that game as canon so I can think Rikku is cool, at least for this fight. And besides, I gotta show my love for things that make you go AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! I also love the color orange. Or should I say, BORANGE? Because that's what Fobbies are.
  4. Kill Yuffie. Please. Oath to Order 05:27, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
  5. HydronisaI actually didn't think Yuffie was that bad of a character at first, I thought she was just there for some added comic relief. Then I got to the side-quest at Wutai, when she actually fulfilled what she stated upon entering the party. My hatred for a character could not have been more palpable. Rikku wins this because of that, and the fact that she brought the 'Mix' back into the games.
  6. OmgItsFrenchie Rikku by far, she's helped me heaps with the Mix ability and stealing early on in the game. I adore Yuffie, but Rikku is just too damn awesome.
  7. Mateus_the_Corrupt: Rikku, unlike Yuffie, has the ability to mix items instead of throwing fuuma shuriken. It's better for Alchemists (or Chemists) to win this battle so the Ninjas could go to their graves.
  8. Gaming-King:I'am going wiht rikku because of mix and Yuffie just bugs me.
  9. Hexed
  10. Marcus Leonhart: Although Yuffie is a particular character I like in FF7, what can she do without materia? Jump and brand her shuriken like crazy? Hey, wait. What shuriken? Rikku, give back that shuriken!
  11. Henryacores: Rikku is FFX's second best character. She is the best character in battle, and the one whose solo is the easiest. Her overdrive is excellent and I love her as a character. Her cheerful and fun personality is awsome. Have I arleady told you how hot she is? Rikku is just awesome. Yuffie is a disgrace for ninjas.
  12. VitoRyu: Rikku.
  13. TSD: Unlimited Mega-Potions FTW.
  14. AuronKaizer: I don't see what everyone's problem is with Yoofey, but either way, she gets badly owned by Rikku. You're gonna have to look very hard to find someone a FFX character loses against in my opinion.
  15. FFX Rikku wins my vote. Now, if this were specifically between FFX-2 Rikku and Yuffie, I'd have to go with Yuffie. But overall, I find Rikku, annoying as she may be, to be FAR less annoying than Yuffie. I'm sure lots of people would disagree, but I don't really care. Also, I would say that Rikku's character and backstory are a lot less cliche and boring than Yuffie's. I mean, how many "Ninja avenging my clan"s do we need? Nah, a blond girl salvaging airships is a lot cooler to me. --RB
  16. Big mamou: Rikku. Because she is the lesser of two evils. The "What to Say to Get Yuffie to Join" guess-and-check mini "game" was obnoxious. Doing it without any sort of a guide back when the game was first released sent my PS1 controller flying at the wall.
  17. ChiefKakashi: Don't mind Rikku, can't stand Yuffie.
  18. Chaos40: Personally my vote's got to go for the character who isn't trying to rob me blind at every point in the game. Not very endearing of you Yuffie. Besides I vote against Yuffie out of spite when I realise I've been pronouncing her name wrong for ten years.
  19. CeKain: For no reason at all, Rikku.
  20. MK: At least she doesn't steal my shit and at least she isn't a ninja. God, Ninjas suck, just like FFVII and guess whose in there...
  21. tomtheroadkill: I have to go on usefulness here. Rikku is an annoying character and her personality has got to be shot. But Yuffie has the second most useless Limit Break and is a weak character anyway. Agreed, her character developed for Dirge of Cerberus, but wasn't playable. Rikku has the Mix and has more use. So, it has to be Rikku for me.
  22. RedMage To any one who thinks Rikku isn't cool, watch this: [1]
  23. Mjka Ninjas are overrated. Yuffie is weird and annoying. Just because your shuriken is bigger does not mean it'll be any better. Rikku is the cutest Al Bhed ever. When a girl tells you to cram your happy festival, you gotta love her pluck. I mean, if my Home was blown up, I would never have been as composed as she was. She was also mature at times in FFX-2. What was so bad about that game, anyway?
  24. Pablo618: I have no prob with rikku, I like her =)
  25. PD: The color scheme is annoying as both of them at times...
  26. Moogle Kupo I'll hit that.
  27. Azul: Finally! My fight is up! I pick Rikku. Rikku got me out of alot of tight spots in FFX and FFX-2! Besides Yuffie is annoying with or without a voice.
  28. gokus789: Well I like Yuffie more as a character but Rikku was more useful in battle. Besides Rikku was sexy in X-2. Sure X-2 sucked and I never played it but her outfit made up for it.
  29. Alcaeus: I actually like Rikku. Sure her voice is annoying, but it was still better than Tidus'. Plus she didn't steal all your Materia forcing you to go on an annoying side-quest. Yuffie is the second worst FF character of all time, after Laguna. Also on a completely different topic, FFX-2 isn't a bad game. It has a fun battle system and the most important thing to a game is it's fun-factor.
  30. Fonzyboi:in battle rikku is more useful, she does decent damage and she can also provide good support w/ her mixed potions; in the story rikku is also more interesting, she speaks two languages and she comes from a technophile race(Al Bhed)
  31. Bluesilver: I love Rikku! she more interesting that some treasure hunter from a town with cool music and she is much more useful. plus in 10-2 she like monkeys!
  32. Dark raven: She's prettier, more useful and less annoying.
  33. BigSlurp: Yeaaaaaaa!!!!!! Finally one of my favorite characters of all time is up to battle. Her overly spunky annoyingness just makes you fall in love with her. She's a trip-out to listen to. And she actually can kick some major butt. I never liked Yuffie as I thought she was useless. Rikku is the much better choice. Woohoo!
  34. Lankapoo: Dude, that's not even a fight. Rikku just kicks ass!
  35. RenzokukenXIV Personally i hate yuffie, yeah they are both hyperactive, but Yuffie the "ninja" is just plain stupid. So yeah, my vote is completely for Rikku
  36. Lockhart: Even though I'm a Final Fantasy VII junkie, I just can't vote for Yuffie over Rikku. Similar in many ways, I just think that Rikku has a little more depth than Yuffie. I tend to use them both in battle, I might even use Yuffie a little more. Oh well, Rikku it is.
  37. SacredMist: I like her personality better than Yuffie's and I also felt that her character design was better than Yuffie's. Though they both have their immature sides, I felt that Yuffie was much more annoying. Rikku's just an overall sweet girl that has a good head on her shoulders. Her little smoke bomb during a certain dangerous situation wasn't a bad idea at all. Shows that the girl can take care of herself just fine.
  38. Drake1: You know, I liked Rikku before X-2. So I choose her.
  39. Jordanlee24: Rikku is much funnier than what Yuffie is and she's Al Bhed which makes it better. Rikku is protective over Yuna and helps her to be an all-round happy character.
  40. Zephyrus11: Rikku has more character development, more interesting moves (the whole chemist aspect is awesome), better appearance design, better voice acting (than Yuffie in either AC or KH). Rikku gets copycat which is an amazing move, Al Bhed is an awesome race/language, and shes from X, which is great. Even her X-2 incarnation isn't too bad, although her X one is better.
  41. ShadowLaguna: When I first got Yuffie in my party, I thought "I've got a crap ally". And of course I was right. I've never been a fan of Yuffie and I most likely never will. As for Rikku, I don't like her much in battle either. But her personality is a lot better and when you first get her, you don't get bad first impressions.
  42. TacticAngel: I've never been a real big fan of Yuffie. Something about stealing all my materia...

Anonymous votes[]

  1. rikku cares about other people and yuffie cares about herself.
  2. rikku all the way! (until X-2)!!!!!
  3. these are 2 of my favourite characters in the FF universe. But by far i would choose rikku over yuffie. Rikku's funny and her mix ability takes of loads of damage, plus the fact that she can also steal. Aside from her attacks, she also looks really cool too and she's just a great character all round. Also, when yuffie is on your team, if you go to wutai, she steals all of your materia :( anyways, rikku gets my vote, 100%.
  4. How is this a question? Rikku, all the way.
  5. Gotta love Rikku's Mix ability...and the thing on her arm is way less stupid than the tumor on Yuffie's character design. Nomura, what were you ON?
  6. ?????- I don't get what's so great about mix (maybe it's just me) but unlike a bunch of you people, I like Rikku. Just as a character. I mean, Yuffie ain't bad but, Rikku Rocks!
  7. Sora_rainstorm - Rikku is the winner. When you first recruit Yuffie as a party member, she tries to steal your stuff. And that is why I'm voting for Rikku. Besides, she was just a little bit more useful. Yuffie sucked, and I hardly ever used her.
  8. God, I hate Yuffie to death. She stole my materia man....my materia...
  9. Rikku, Rikku, Rikku.
  10. Rikku is definitely better than yuffie. 'nough said.
  11. Hellhound - Rikku is way better. Her overdrive is useful, she's fun, not near as annoying as Yuffie, and is way hotter. Love you Rikku!!!
  12. Yumiko: oh this is hard. i am a huge fan of vii but i think i vote for rikku. i like yuffie's character but i must say mix had gotten me out of many tricky situations. also x-2 wasnt that bad. it may have been a little umm... girly, useless, whatever but the overall story wasn't that bad and the 100% ending was nice. AC, DoC, and CC was also cool. AC advanced the story line a bit. DC explored the life of Vincent and CC explained the past and stuff. why must people hate these titles.=(
  13. EmuMaster: Ugh. I don't really like either, but at least Rikku's attractive.
  14. Yuffie is hyper and annoying. Rikku is hyper and adorable. Plus, mixing rocks.
  15. Despite the fact that in X-2 Rikku looked like a cheap whore most of the time, I found her more useful than Yuffie was.
  16. both suck, but X had decent graphics, try a new bit of charecter development next time!- Exdeath64
  17. Rikku because her mix list saves your ass a lot and theres only been one bad sequal of ffx and Yuffie stole my materia...

Okay! *Shaq-fu's Yuffie* --Crazyswordsman 05:31, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

CSM, aren't we getting a little overy-tilted thought to the characters in the explaination section? Yuffie's a ninja, that's official in Square(and Nomura) so that's no much you can do about it.--Nel 09:08, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Alchemists win, any day. Of course, that's what I'd say.TheSwordofDoubt 10:08, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Am I the only one who complains about the lack of a neutral point of view in the description? It's not like this is your fandom soapbox or whatever. --Auron Kaizer 11:35, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Fix it for you Kaizer, and I adjusted the color scheme a bit. My eyes couldn't take the old ones. It was like looking into a solar eclipse or your Grandma's clevage. --BlueHighwind
Sorry, BH, but when I do the fights, we use shiny colors. And don't change the description. --Crazyswordsman 15:59, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
What's wrong with the colours? At least they don't glare right out at you like the basic colours do. They're much softer. And half the time I don't even notice them. TheSwordofDoubt 15:14, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh, and Cara was the prototype, not Yuffie. --Crazyswordsman 16:07, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

That's true, unfortunately it she came at the expense of replacing her infinitely cooler grandfather and one of the only reasons I played FFV and the main reason I stopped and won't continue playing.AnonyMan 18:51, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
But Galuf has terrible Speed and Magic stats. Krile (or Cara?) has the highest Speed in the game and the second highest Magic stats in the game, making her much more useful in battle than Galuf. --Alcaeus

All right, who here hates this bright-as-the-fucking-sun color scheme? And who here can possibly defend it? --BlueHighwind

Would you rather look at dull, boring colors? I'm sick of dull colors. --Crazyswordsman 19:35, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
That may be. But dull colors are pleasing to the eye. We want people to actually read our votes. This color scheme is distracting. --BlueHighwind 19:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
I don't find them pleasing at all. I find them boring and all like "Hi. I. Am. A. Brussel. Sprout." Is that how you want our Wiki? Full of drones? --Crazyswordsman 19:39, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
There's a reason why books are not printed on electric-pink paper. There's also a reason why the Monobook skin uses white instead of bright green. A very simple one. The eye, being lazy, likes nice dull tones like white. Notice how when you look at Yuffie's votes, it all seems to blur out. Its hard to concentrate upon the text (especially that massive essay that annon wrote). Your mind wonders. You can put hot colors around text, but the text itself should be kept in nice cool backgrounds. --BlueHighwind
Or maybe you just need glasses. --Crazyswordsman 20:03, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Bright Orange and green, the 2nd best and a general good color resepctively, what's to hate about it? I can understand those who think it's a bit on the eyes, but it's good to do something different especially when it's two of the better colors on the spectrum. AnonyMan 20:12, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
I prefer to think that CSM is colorblind since the opposing viewpoint is he is insane or has bad taste. In any case, I'm tempted to give him a test template. --TacticAngel 20:15, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Nice try, TA. But I put up the fight. --Crazyswordsman 20:24, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
That means what to me? --TacticAngel 20:40, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm willing to compromise. We can use the boring, dull, why-are-we-having-cheese-sauce-for-lunch-again colors so long as we get the conversation back to Yuffie and Rikku! --Crazyswordsman 22:41, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Agreed! ... now, am I supposed to be gauging this on who is the better ninjar or who I want to do more... --TacticAngel 23:51, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Whatever you want. Preferably which one stinks the least..... --Crazyswordsman 00:01, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Now all it as it should be. Rikku sucks, Yuffie sucks. What's left to say? --BlueHighwind
I agree with CSM. After awhile, the formal, dull colors get boring. -- ChiefKakashi 19:46, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
This one is hard!!! I love them both...decisions, decisions -- himbo 19:54, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Rikku doesn't exactly suck BH. In FFX-2, mind, she DOES suck. HORRIBLY. More than even Selphie. But in FFX she ruled. --Crazyswordsman 01:25, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

I disagree. Rikku was worthless in FFX. She was standing on excellent skill nodes (Steal, Mug), however as a fighter she could put the hookers in Jersey City to shame with how much she sucked. Weak attacks, no defense, unimpressive speed and evade. Too low for a proper Thief. Plus Mix was so complicated with so many possible variations that you needed a Master's Degree in Mixery just to use it properly. I just want to fight, not memorize tables. Plus you didn't need her anyway. Auron, Tidus, Yuna, and Lulu could easily take care of any trouble you would find. --BlueHighwind
My walkthrough tells you all the useful mixes. It's like with Gau's Rages, you don't have to know them all, just the useful ones. It's the ONLY way to get Marvel Shoes in FFX. --Crazyswordsman 02:00, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Rikku was one of the best characters in FFX, in my opinion, at least from a combat perspective. I left her with SOS-Haste always. Since you knew exactly what order people were going to attack in, you could often switch in a (battered and bruised) Rikku who would, given her natural speed plus all the other factors, often get to go two or even three times in a row and be able to be switched out quickly for other characters in order to avoid attacks. --TacticAngel 09:53, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Ugh, that one anon's vote essay for Yuffie nearly made me puke. -- Alcaeus

Yeah, you're telling me. And she mentions AC and DoC, two blights on the world of FF, just like FFX-2 was. --Crazyswordsman 07:39, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

I wonder if that person could do a full, 8-page disertation on the character of Yuffie? An interesting though, especially since they have generalised or guessed a good deal about her character (how anyone could tell anything about any of the characters in VII from AC is beyond me) Also, I am incredibly happy to see a good old polarising fight on the DNC once again. RedMage

You can tell a couple things about two of the characters in AC. Cloud was emo and had porcupine hair and Tifa had giant boobs. But physical traits don't count do they? -- ChiefKakashi 16:58, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Which is enough to know that they're prettyboys. --Crazyswordsman 18:11, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, physical traits count for something, I was going to vote for Rikku based off of her X-2 art.(shallow, I know) I thought that this fight would be closer when I first saw it come up, but then again I am pretty ignorant when it comes to X and its fanbase.--Oranejo 18:43, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Damn. This went from a fairly even competition to a massacre. You had a good run there, Yuffie, but it seems like you're done. --Blykus 19:26, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Poor Yuffie is losing. I'm going to cry. --Kami strife 20:59, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
And by a pretty large margin too. I wasn't aware at the extent to which people hate Yuffie or something. They hate her like she's Cait Sith or something(even though Cait's much cooler). AnonyMan 23:38, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
I hate this guy like he's Cait Sith. --BlueHighwind 23:36, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Loll, What? Cait Sith isn't as bad as people think. Not nearly as bad as most of the VII main cast.AnonyMan 23:43, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Die Yuffie! Die, DIE, DIE!!! --Alcaeus

Calm down Alcaeus, calm down. We all love killing, but now is not the time for yelling death threats. Besides, she hardly seems to need any encouragement. RedMage

If this fight continues, it will be like nuking a dead body. It should be changed soon. -- ChiefKakashi 16:00, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Week 62: Edge v. Shadow[]

EdgeDS
Winner!!
Shadow
200px-Ff6 shadow

35 ½ to 25
200px-Ff6 shadow
These were the first two ninjas, also notable as the two ninjas with the least character development. Based on their shadowy past, which do you think has the edge?

Votes for Edge[]

  1. Rabadash: Not knowing much about either, I'll go with edge
  2. Magus: Gonna have to go with Edge on this one. By far my favorite character in FF4. Never have been that big of a fan of Shadow. Always been kind of useless for me.
  3. AnonyMan: I haven't played FFIV yet, but I already know Edge would be my favorite character. He's got cool skills AND a good personlity(could go without the womanizing though). Shadow is pretty damn lame, Terra lame even. Only thing that makes him noticable is Interceptor, who's the real character. I hope it doesn't get extremely onesided Edge is geat.
  4. Bob the geomancer 16:28, 27 March 2008 (UTC) wow edge is getting a lot less votes than i thought he would
  5. ChiefKakashi: About time! I vote for the one who's losing.
  6. Pablo618: I prefer a ladies-man, funny ninja than a ninja that leaves when he wants to
  7. Zolo:Edge no question about it!
  8. Hexed: He is one of the best characters in IV, namely due to one reason.
  9. Silent Meiousei: Edge, Edge, EDGE!!!! He's awesome^^
  10. Alcaeus: While I like Shadow more than Edge, Edge is hot. I think I'm going to vote with my...well, you know...Plus Edge is losing, and I hate to see a sexy man cry.
  11. Hiddensilver: What Alcaeus said.
  12. Montblanc: I give the slight edge (pardon the pun) to Edge. Edge just has more personality to him, and I have a soft spot for smart aleck horn dogs.
  13. VitoRyu: Edge.
  14. CeKain: Definitely Edge. I'm not a fan of Ninjas, and I havn't played the games they are in, but Edge definitely has the better artwork.
  15. Emo DST: For reasons best known to myself, I will be keeping my reasons to myself.
  16. Aleria: Edge. I've actually played IV and Edge is wicked. Never played Shadow, but he can't beat Edge.
  17. 8bit_BlackMage: I love Interceptor and the backstory with Relm, but as a fighter Shadow never did it for me. His little ninja knives did mediocre damage, and his magic score sucked. Edge may be a loudmouth, but he's the fastest character in IV, which means he dual-wields twice before Kain even gets off a lance strike. And he has good taste in women.
  18. im going with edge sorry shadow--Griffen78 20:32, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
  19. Aramis: They both rule, but Edge rules the most.
  20. FinalFighterA+: Definitely going with Edge. Why? Simple: Edge> every other FF ninja
  21. Bartz235: FinalFighterA+ and Anonymous vote #3 said everything I needed to say. Hands down the BEST ninja in the series and one of the best overall characters in the series.
  22. Well, I don't really care for either one, but I'm going with Edge for a few reasons: 1) His name is cooler, and less...cliche. Not much less, mind you. 2) *points up* That's a pretty sick picture, brah. 3) I guess there isn't a three. Oh well. --RB

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Josh EDGE! He's badass. The Cloud of Final Fantasy IV. Way cooler than Shadow.
  2. This is a REALLY, REALLY HARD DECISION FOR ME. My vote is going to Edge because I generally prefer the flirty types of characters (see also: Edgar, Zidane). Additionally, Edge gets to throw the spoon. But as I said, this is a tough tough decision!
  3. Seriously, I can't believe all those suckers are voting for Shadow. I mean lets look at the facts here. Edge is 1) Royalty 2) Able to dual wield weapons without needing an accessory 3) able to use a variety of status (Shadow Stitch), buffing (Image), utility (Smoke), and group damage (Katon, Suiton, and Raijin) magics without needing magicite 4) Can Steal as well as Throw on top of his already-mentioned abilities. 5) Is not some lamer that ran out on his daughter and tried to fake like his dog was an OK consolation prize. Its pretty apparent, Shadow is just some lamer in black pajamas, trying to hustle the common man by using the reputation of the ninja to line his pockets.
  4. Edge is A LOT better than Shadow. I could go on and elaborate but I mean c'mon Shadow left his own daughter who is one of the best mages in the series. Interceptor is awesome though. Edge is all things cool and badass of a ninja while Shadow is all things not.
  5. EmuMaster: Edge by a long shot. He has the coolest name in Final Fantasy, no joke. Edward Geraldine, you are officially a badass.
  6. ??????: I believe that many above me have explaned the reasons he is a better ninja more eloquently than I can put it. I would also like to add that Edge was more reliable than Shadow. As ninjas, theives, etc, go, my favorite is the childlike Yuffie Kisaragi. Between these two, however, I would like to vote for the very charming Edge who actually stays with the party for easy leveling up.

Votes for Shadow[]

  1. Rydiaofmist: Dang, this is a tough call. I'm gonna go with Shadow though. His cold and mysterious personality really stood out to me.
  2. Crazyswordsman: Ooooooh, toughie. I'm gonna go with Shadow for several reasons though: 1. Interceptor 2. Because he can pretty much own any Ninja ever invented 3. Because he's secretive 4. He doesn't hit on the hot girls.
  3. Big mamou: I'm going with Shadow because I never had trouble keeping him alive. Edge seems to be the walking target in my current FF IV Advance playthrough. Plus Shadow had some pretty bad ass lines while Edge just went all emo whiney for most of the story.
  4. Adam mcduck: Shadow was my favourite character from FFVI. He's the best Ninja/Assassin ever. He has interceptor. I recruited him at every point in the story I could. I got annoyed whenever he left your party when you recruit him. Need I say more?
  5. MK: One of the few badass ninja these days (we must be in a drought or something). And unlike Edge, he doesn't constantly flash it in your face. Intercepter ftw.
  6. Crimsonshadow619: I gotta go with Shadow all the way in this one. He's just that much better than Edge. Unlike Edge, Shadow has certain ninja traits and abilities. He's quiet, cool-headed and fairly straight forward. Edge...not so much. Also, Shadow personifies Ninja in that he KICKS ASS!!!
  7. Arausio:Shadow is just so damn cool,he has a dog that defends him how can Edge beat that
  8. BlueHighwind: I never played FFVI, but I can tell you that nobody else has a soundtrack ripped off from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
  9. Cheesewow: Check ninja in the dictionary, and try to think of a better one then him. There are none. sorry Edge.
  10. Go interceptor!!!!!! Cloudofdarkness 15:07, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  11. Zeromus EG
  12. Because Shadow is damn awesome!!! Oath to Order 15:48, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  13. Drake1:No contest. To CSM, Shadow didn't have to hit on the hot girls, all he had to do was look at them.
  14. JARIITX:I'm not fond of Edge, so it's Shadow FTW.
  15. Darkling692: Shadow is the Non Plus Ultra of ninjas in FF, but I vote for him because he is not Edge and because of Interceptor.
  16. Ctaylor503: Is this a one-sided battle? I think it is.
  17. Blykus: I'm gonna have to go with Shadow on this one, although I am a fan of Edge. Edgar's quote about the man ("He'd slit his momma's throat for a nickel!") is one of those lines that have just stuck with me--which probably influences this vote.
  18. Kennedy!: Hmm, hard choice this. Well, have to go with Shadow because he uber-pwnz all with Throw, and Edge sucks at stealing. Oh yeah.
  19. Corrino: Shadow is more classically a ninja and mysterious
  20. Hydronisa: Interceptor was dealing damage in the thousands way before I ever was. I have to hand it to this guy. He doesn't lie when he says that his dog eats faces.
  21. Alexander Namingway: Edge has been watching too much Naruto and has forgetten what real ninjas are. He should take some lessons from Shadow. Remember, subtle and stealthy not annoying and loud.
  22. Drake Clawfang:Shadow is bad-ass, while Edge is just a loudmouth. Rydia can do way better than him.
  23. tomtheroadkill:Has to be Shadow. NEVER EVER liked Edge. Too much of a complete and utter waste of space. Shadow, however, is dark, mysterious and armed with Interceptor. What more could you ask for?
  24. dudutsai: A very close one for me. Shadow's theme won me over.... such a great theme.
  25. Pikmin Master: Shadow can use Quick. Shadow can use Ultima. Shadow, if equipped properly, can equip Ragnarok and Ultima Weapon while at the same time, using Quick and Valor (Advance version). Edge can't do those. Shadow is the definition of a Ninja. I quite laugh at the truth of Namingway's comment.
  26. SCM: Shadow is a lot better than that moron.
  27. Gaming-King: let's go with Shadow.
  28. Jordanlee24: I think that Shadow played a much better role in FFIV than what Edge did in FFVI and I much preferred his personality. He looks more like a ninja than what Edge does too!
  29. Henryacores: Edge is just plain annoying. I swapped him for Yang. Surely the game's second worst character. Weak and annoying.
  30. Shinryu: Shadow has Interceptor (which can do some major ownage) and elemental scroll throwing is more damaging than any Ninjitsu from Egde, thus Shadow can use any magic with help of magicite and the shurikens are far cheaper in VI than in IV.
  31. Terra_Homing: It's shadow, what else needs to be said?

Anonymous votes[]

  1. Meghan: Shadow is ten times cooler then Edge. And plus Shadow is a dog lover and Interceptor can mess you up!
  2. Checkit-Clyde Arrowny. Word to your mother.
  3. Troy: Shadow is the only answer. Cool, collected, father of Relm, master of Interceptor and he takes on Kefka and the Warring Triad to allow the others to escape the Floating Island.
  4. Edge hits on Rydia-Pedophile >:P
  5. David. Shadow. Definitely Shadow. His real name is Clyde! Seriously awesome.
  6. Seeing as how Shadow is a ninja badass, and Edge is a cradlerobbing wimp...I'm going to have to say Shadow. A true silent badass, loyal to his friends, and merciless to his foes; Shadow holds my respect.
  7. WOO-HOO One sided fights!!!
  8. Go Shadow!

I really wish, if you insist upon changing the pictures, you make the colors match and the pictures the same height... --TacticAngel 05:12, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, I've tried that many a time. I mean, you used the artwork images in your last many fights. Why not this one? --Crazyswordsman 05:23, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Mostly because the two pictures above are akin to hollywood rendered badass vs. 3rd grade refridgerator art village person. --TacticAngel 05:29, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, you're entitled to your opinion TA, and I'm not going to say otherwise. And besides, abstraction pwns fahnsshy schmahnchy graphics anyday. --Crazyswordsman 05:30, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Couldn't we do sprites just once? Must every fight be in 3D. Its nice and all, but we could use a classic fight every once in a while. --BlueHighwind

How come the Yuffie vs Rikku fight wasn't picked? I'm not only saying this because it's my fight but it also only had 1 Reject vote and more Support votes than Edge and Shadow and any other fight suggested on here. If it was because of the coding I had it all on my sandbox page.-Azul 05:47, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Probably because theres too much good fights hidden in the DNC talk pages beneath all the rubbish. I'd like to clean it up someway or other. [^_^]/
Because this was the oldest fight which had a supermajority. Ditzes next week, I promise. (and yes, TA, that also has a supermajority, so it's not me being a dictator). --Crazyswordsman 06:12, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
There are others that have solid, if not nearly unanimous majorities that have languished there just as long if not longer. I'll look it over. I happen to like the idea, so it will probably happen at some point, but when I hear children whine about not getting their candy, I can't very well give it to them. They should not learn that bad behavior is rewarded. As I have discussed in the past, there are a lot of things that influence my decision. --TacticAngel 18:04, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
It's going to happen next week, and I'm going to put it up personally. --Crazyswordsman 07:39, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Are you at least going to color code it reasonably? --TacticAngel 20:12, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't know what that means. All I know is Yuffie's color is green and Rikku's is orange. Or BORANGE. Like FOBBIES are. --Crazyswordsman 03:47, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Something about that say not to much... coordinated colors with the most prodominant color of the picture... thats what I tend to try to do. --03:04, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
I can do that. --Crazyswordsman 16:13, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Yay, my fight. My FIRST fight suggestion at that. Cloudofdarkness 15:06, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Week 61: Ramza v. Delita[]

Ramza
Winner!!
Ramza
Ramza

23 ½ to 13
FFT Delita2
These two can be compared only fairly in two regards; tactical brilliance and thistle blowing virtuosity. Who triumphs?!

Votes for Ramza[]

  1. W00t first vote. Hexed
  2. "Your actions are only meaningful only if they hold your ideals, don't you agree?"--NeA
  3. Bob the geomancer 12:35, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
  4. Dickens Greentree Windshot, the Archer: I never play the game Final Fantasy Tactics, but I read their pages, and Razma is best! Note: Delita is all orange ;]
  5. ChiefKakashi: Random vote.
  6. Crazyswordsman: Gotta go with Ramza
  7. Henryacores: Ramza is the good guy and he defeated like...6 Lucavi! He's not rotten like Delita who gets to be the king of Ivalice by being treacherous.
  8. VitoRyu: Ramza.
  9. Ramza. i dont recall Delita killin any demons, do i? just using ramzas triumph to ascend to the throne. plus Delita killed Ovelia!Superaeon35 20:08, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
  10. Hiddensilver: I've never been comfortable with manipulation as a tool for the "good". I'm voting for the guy I can trust and who can sleep soundly at night without the fear of getting stabbed in the back by the next brilliant manipulator that comes by.
  11. Holly: yay! what a cool fight! i must vote too! well...i'm not a fan of these two, i like more Mustadio!xD, hmmm, both are cool guys, but i don't like how delita changed...that's why i vote for ramza! he's like battousai himura, a warrior who will never down on hystory!(?), and he has a black armor (thats cool) oh! and he has guts,(duh!). So... GO ON RAMZA!
  12. BigSlurp: Tough choice here. Really don't care too much for either one. Rolled a die, and it can up odd, so here is my vote.
  13. Zolo:Got to go with Ramza for being truthful and didn't get credit for saving his world,Delita is just a lying BIMBO who took credit for things he didn't do and also he killed his WIFE what a evil dude.
  14. 8bit_BlackMage: Going with Ramza on this one. I thought both charcters were excellent, far above the one-sided charcters in other games that receive more acclaim. Delita's murder of Goltanna and ending scenes were fantastic, but...Ramza actually killed the Lucavi, he's a Dual-Wielding Samurai in my game, he gets to hang out with Orlandeau and Agrias, and his sense of honor in my view trumps Delita's deceit. Not that I'm criticizing Delita.
  15. Alcaeus: I like both, so it came down to one thing: Ramza's brother Zalbag is a HOT PIECE OF ASS. ;)
  16. Darkling692: I vote for the two handed monk who beat the crap out of Belius in the hardest fight in any Final Fantasy I've ever played.
  17. Mizuno Mahou: Like Alcaeus, I like both characters, but you really get attached to Ramza. Ramza has a strong sense of justice, he cares deeply for his sister, and has no tolerance for those with evil intentions. Ramza can also be quite humorous in some parts of the story, too.
  18. Ctaylor503: Tactical thistles? What? The main character gets my vote. I just couldn't identify with Delita.
  19. Rabadash: Ramza has been my uber fighter forever! delita is Mr. I go join Goltana because imma poopy face. Ramza is positive, upbeat, and will not let peety relationships get in the way of the fight.
  20. CeKain: I definitely have to pick Ramza, because he was uber strong. When I played FFT: War of the Lions, I took the time to master every class and make him an Onion Knight, and played with my friend to get the extra equips, and ever since I did that, he has always been my favorite out of the two. Go Ramza!
  21. TacticAngel: I never really cared for Delita. War of the Lions made him a little less of a b****, but still...

Anonymous votes[]

  1. He's the good guy, can't argue good intentions.
  2. ??????: I have never played this game, but I skimmed both profiles for research. It seems to me that because of the horrible experience Delita had been through, he had become what he hated in the ones who did that to him. Ramza had a sense of justice and stuck to what he believed no matter what, even if he didn't get known for it or anything. Tactical brilliance? That is subjective. I, for one, am casting my vote for Ramza because I like nice people who aren't just using you.
  3. I adore Ramza. Yup, I do. :D
  4. Rainacide : I place my vote on Ramza. I think they are both badasses but I've always been more on Ramza's side. Ramza changes his appearance several times in the game but the ending appearance is pretty Godly. Plus Monk/Samurai/Ninja Ramza owns Holy Knight Delita. Ramza doesn't even care about making a name for himself he just wants to save his bitch & the world. While Delita picks up the dirty trash & disposes some ppl.:X
  5. Ramza kicks ass!!! Delita is not a good boy!!! D=

Votes for Delita[]

  1. Tactical brilliance? I've gotta go with Delita on this one. He's a master manipulator and an excellent strategist. --Rydiaofmist
  2. My idea! My idea! Horray! Horray! I vote for Delita because he is a power-hungry, ambitious, machiavellian type, and a playa around Ovelia. --BlueHighwind
  3. Delita was my favorite character in Tactics because of how he was able to manipulate everyone....and his grass-whistling skills are top notch. Oranejo 16:20, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
  4. I'm not really a Delita fan, I hold him in the exact same moderate opinion I do as Ramza, this vote is just luck based. One thing I can say about Delita that he has over Ramza is his sprite consitently looked cool. Where are the Delita votes, I figrued this match would be even from the get go? C'mon people!AnonyMan 19:51, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
  5. I'm going with Delita because thus far he is being utterly slaughtered. Not to mention Ramza's voice scares me. Oh, and Delita is cool. Yup. --RB
  6. Oh, thank you, finally a good match. I asked for this match half a year ago, before the remake, but everyone thought it would be stupid. Anyway, Delita is my favorite and least favorite character in the game. I love his plotting and planning, how he won't let anyone get in his way, but then again I can't help but hate him. It was pretty much his fault that almost every other character was dead before the end. Ahh. Now that was a satisfying vote. Unlike the votes of yesterweek. -- DrakemasterDrake
  7. It's tails, Chief. Dark raven 20:34, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
  8. User:Booff7:Both are great but what wins Delita over is that I find him to be one of the most interesting characters of the series, just when you think he's doing the right thing, he goes and kills someone else for his own benefit. I can never tell if he's the good guy or the bad guy O_o? Plus Delita looks a bit better, and he makes mincemeat out of anything that gets in his way the few times you use him.
  9. Word. He is amazingly powerful, its a shame hes not a secret charater or something. But I'm glad we get to have a small taste of his power.--User:Khakishro
  10. Gaming-King I'am just going to go wiht Delita
  11. The Almighty Cornmander: Both characters suck ass, the game even moreso. Delita isn't half as inappropriate term of sexual distinction as Ramza.
  12. Foreign (exotic?)) VIP. Please, forgive for TRANSLIT, but in English to write I am not able...Delita- moi vibor. Mstitel, lovko manipulirujushiy vsemi, kto vstanet u nego na puti...BRAVO! 1. Im gonna go with the amazingly powerful Holy Knight. He could kick Ramza's Squire ass any day. Besides, Delita survived longer than Ramza.
  2. Troy: Giving some love to those that lie, cheat and steal to gain power.

I'd like to point out that these are updated on Wednesdays, generally, so there's no sense in whining about the definition of a week. -- TacticAngel 07:06, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

W00t second comment! Comment: Computer's going SMS on page for some reason, please archive if you don't mind.

Also, this is again going to be fun to watch.TheSwordofDoubt 11:12, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

For once I'm not gonna vote coz i've never played Tactics and can't judge either of the characters. Adam mcduck 16:26, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
I can't vote in good faith because I can't remember too much about Final Fantasy Tactics. --Blykus 18:52, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Tactics suxs... no vote Tuga
Never played FF Tactics (PS1 or PSP) so I can't vote in this one. -- JARIITX 19:55, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Those who haven't played Tactics: get to it. For those who hate Tactics: you're an idiot. And for those who don't know anything: be quiet. The wise one shuts up when he is out of his element. That is all. --BlueHighwind
Or flips a coin for who to vote for. >.> -- ChiefKakashi 20:02, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Pablo618: I'm abstaining to vote because I haven't played the game. ^^ Although I don't hate it if someone is going to insult me
Man, I didn't realize you hated FFT so much Blue. --Auron Kaizer 22:24, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Wow, this is an extremely even fight thus far. I mean, at first Ramza lead Delita 9 to 3 but look at it now. This is nothing like the last...uh...*tries to count and then gives up*...several...fights. --RB

I can't decide who to vote for. I was edging toward Ramza, but he was winning by a landslide, then Delita caught up, so....hmm. We'll see. 8bit BlackMage 19:03, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
@RB: Tifa vs. Rydia was within one-half to one point for the first few days. -- ChiefKakashi 19:12, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Then the fanboys came... Oath to Order 19:13, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Which ones? The IV or VII fanboys? Oh, and don't forget the VII haters! -- ChiefKakashi 22:20, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

No vote.... The combination of the two is what makes the game amazing, but I can't really say which is better. dudutsai

I hated Tactics ... so No vote. The game could have been alot better. -- Southgale

Southgale if u mess around with my text w/e i'll hunt u down and kill you by slaping u in the face. Tuga

Dunno much about either character, anyone willing to try and influence my vote? RedMage

Flip coin. Head Ramza. Tails Delita. Simple. Oath to Order 23:46, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Hasn't this plan already been done in like, oh I don't know, the last year or so? AzureDrake 15:19, 22 March 2008 (UTC

This is turning out to be a pretty boring match. @Oath: what do I pick if it lands on it's side and balances there? RedMage

Yeah, too bad none of the fanboys play FFT. Its too hard for their pathetic lack of skills, intelligence, or imagination. --BlueHighwind
