Final Fantasy Wiki

In Final Fantasy V certain weapons, pieces of armor, and accessories have statuses associated with their use.

Added statuses must not be confused with added abilities (e.g. Death via Assassin Dagger). For armor and accessories, added statuses must not be confused with status immunities.

Mechanics[]

Weapons, armor, and accessories interact differently with added statuses:

  • For weapons, added statuses may be inflicted on vulnerable enemies with a certain probability after attacking with the relevant weapon. Contrary to added abilities, the attack must succeed for the status to be inflicted. Missing does not count as a successful hit, but dealing 0 damage does.
  • For armor and accessories, added statuses are automatically bestowed on the wearer at the beginning of each battle with a 100% probability. They may be permanent, or subject to removal conditions.

Unlike added spells, added statuses inflicted via weapons cannot be reflected, as they are not proper spells, and not even proper abilities.

Status-adding spellblades can be thought of as imbuing compatible equipped weapons with new added statuses that also remove and override native added statuses. When performing physical attacks and commands post-activation of a status-adding spellblade, the status is always inflicted, unless the target is immune, or the attack/command misses. Dealing no damage is not considered missing.
