Final Fantasy Wiki

In Final Fantasy V, every action (regular attacks, spells, and commands) performed by party members has an action category associated with it.

For most regular attacks and physical commands, the action category depends on the weapon used to attack. For most spells, action categories correspond to the relevant magic skillset. Attacks performed with weapons that cast spells adopt the same category as the cast spell. Post-attack added abilities are treated separately from the preceding attack.

Some enemies (but not party members) have the property of being unable to evade actions tied to certain action categories (unless the image status is active for physical actions).

List of action categories[]

The following is a list of all action categories in Final Fantasy V. Whenever a weapon or weapon class appears in the Actions column, it refers to attacks and offensive commands performed while wielding such a weapon or one from that class.

Aerial Attacks performed with the Moonring Blade are categorized as Physical rather than Aerial.

Unevadable attacks[]

All enemies have a property that defines the action categories of attacks they cannot evade. While most enemies have no such categories, there are notable patterns and unique cases:

  • Many undead enemies cannot evade actions categorized as White (e.g. Cure).
  • Many flying enemies (including, but not limited to, some avian-type enemies) cannot evade actions categorized as Aerial.
  • Blood Slime cannot evade attacks from any action category.
