Etymology[edit | edit source]
In the original game, the Proud Clod drops the Ragnarok sword upon defeat. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, the Pride and Joy Prototype (which resembles the Proud Clod) will drop an accessory named Gotterdammerung upon defeat. Gotterdammerung (literally translated as "Twilight of the Gods") is old German for the Norse word Ragnarok. Additionally, Gotterdammerung was the name of the final act of Der Ring des Nibelungen (the Ring of the Nibelung), a modern (at the time) retelling of the tale of Ragnarok (also an allusion to the Final Fantasy VII Remake being a retelling of the original Final Fantasy VII).
