Tracks from other albums[]

In "Budding Bodyguard", the piano version of "Aerith's Theme" playing in the Sector 5 slums church before Reno arrives is from the album Piano Collections: Final Fantasy VII, also released on the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Original Soundtrack.

Only 24 of the 31 jukebox tracks can be found on the special edit version ("Stand Up" and "Scarlet's Theme" are including in the Standard Soundtrack), while the rest are from the album Square Enix Jazz -Final Fantasy VII-. These are:

  • "Bombing Mission (Jukebox version)"
  • "Tifa's Theme (Jukebox Version)"
  • "The Chase (Jukebox version)"
  • "Main Theme of FFVII (Jukebox version)"
  • "On Our Way (Jukebox version)"
  • "Cait Sith's Theme (Jukebox version)"
  • "Cosmo Canyon (Jukebox version)"

Unreleased and unused tracks[]

Despite the release of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Original Soundtrack Plus, marking the official release of most previously unreleased tracks, there still remains a selection of unreleased and unused tracks:

  • In "The Destruction of Mako Reactor 1", Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade remarkably features a variation of "Midgar, City of Mako" with altered lyrics and some smaller differences.
  • In "The Destruction of Mako Reactor 1", a brief variation of "Mako Reactor 1" plays in the Sweeper Armory of Mako Reactor 1.[2]
  • In "Home Sweet Slum", the intro of "Tifa's Theme - Seventh Heaven" is quite a bit longer than on the soundtrack if one lingers for a while before approaching Tifa.
  • In "Mad Dash", a brief cutscene track plays just before the "Whispers' Theme".[3]
  • In "Mad Dash", a cutscene track plays after defeating the Enigmatic Spectre, when Jessie is injured.[4]
  • In "Dogged Pursuit", a brief cutscene track plays just before "Hurry!"[5]
  • In "Dogged Pursuit", a cutscene track plays during the second scene in Heidegger's surveillance room. A shorter version plays during the next cutscene as well.[6]
  • In "Light the Way", a variation of "Undercity Suns" plays when the party heads for Section H and overcomes the powerful ventilation fans.[7]
  • In "Budding Bodyguard", a variation of "Under the Rotting Pizza" plays when Cloud and Aerith arrive at the Sector 5 Undercity station.[8]
  • In "The Town That Never Sleeps", a brief cutscene track plays when Cloud has a premonition about Aerith (right at the start of the chapter).[9]
  • In "The Town That Never Sleeps", a woodwind variation of "Don of the Slums" plays in the entrance hall of Corneo's Mansion.[10]
  • In "The Town That Never Sleeps", a track plays while viewing the Corneo Colosseum battle selection menu.[11]

  • In "Haunted", a low-key variation of "Haunted" plays when fighting in the Train Graveyard's Switchyards.[13]
  • In "Haunted", a cutscene track plays when Aerith stops Cloud from attacking the "nice ghost" and a train car is almost dropped on the party.[14]
  • In "Haunted", a brief cutscene track plays upon defeating the Ghoul.[15]
  • In "Haunted", a cutscene track plays when Aerith is spirited away by Ghosts, just before the battle with Eligor.[16]
  • In "Fight for Survival", a brief cutscene track plays when Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith are surrounded by Whispers.[17]
  • In "Fight for Survival", a brief cutscene track plays when Aerith helps Betty reunite with her father.[18]
  • In "In Search of Hope", a variation of "Leslie's Theme - One Day..." (from Final Fantasy VII Remake Original Soundtrack Plus) plays in the cutscene following the Abzu boss battle, when Tifa tells Leslie that the flower on his pendant symbolizes reunion.[19]
  • In "In Search of Hope", another low-key variation of the above plays after the cutscene when the party returns to the surface and Leslie takes off. However, the music tends to fade out almost immediately, so it's very hard to catch.
  • In "The Day Midgar Stood Still", a variation of "The Day Midgar Stood Still" with a slight pick-up in percussion plays when the party climbs to greater heights (after exiting the crumbling building). The battle theme is unchanged, however.[20]
  • In "The Belly of the Beast", a variation of "The Shinra Building" plays when the party jumps onto a Shinra truck, attempting to infiltrate the Shinra Building through the parking garage.[21]
  • In "The Belly of the Beast", a more low-key variation of "Hand over Hand" plays while controlling Tifa before the monkey bars section.[22]
  • In "The Belly of the Beast", an intro for "Mayor Domino" (from Final Fantasy VII Remake Original Soundtrack Plus) plays.[23]
  • In "The Belly of the Beast", a minor variation of "The Pursuit - Man in the Lab Coat" (from Final Fantasy VII Remake Original Soundtrack Plus) plays when the party observes President Shinra and Heidegger in front of the elevator on their way to the board meeting.
  • In "The Belly of the Beast", a longer version of "Hojo's Laboratory" (from Final Fantasy VII Remake Original Soundtrack Plus) plays after defeating Specimen H0512.

  • In "Deliverance from Chaos", a variation of "Trail of Blood" plays when the party discovers Jenovas body missing, before exiting the Drum.[27]
  • In "Deliverance from Chaos", a short variation of "Tifa's Theme" plays when Tifa saves Cloud from falling after his battle against Rufus.[28]
  • In the game files, an unreleased track exists that was originally intended to be played at some point during "Mad Dash", presumably at the S7-6 Annex.[29]
  • In the game files, an unreleased track exists that was originally intended to be played at some point during "The Belly of the Beast", presumably somewhere in the Shinra Building.[30]

Production[]

Though Final Fantasy VII Remake takes place solely in Midgar, the developers did not want to limit its soundtrack to themes originally only heard within the city.[31]
