The following is a list of gameplay changes between Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

General[]
- The weapon upgrade system is completely changed, now having you unlock Weapon Skills as the characters' Weapon Level increases. Up to 4 can be equipped and they vary between each weapon.
- Synergy Skills and Abilities are added, as well as precision guards, each functioning similarly to Yuffie and Sonon from "INTERmission".
- Folios have been added, requiring SP to unlock Skill Cores, which includes the aforementioned Synergy Skills and Abilities, along with Stat Boosts and other abilities.
- New items: Giga-Potion, X-Potion, Mixed Potion, Mixed Hi-Potion, Mist Potion, Mist Hi-Potion, Mist Mega-Potion, Mist Giga-Potion, Hi-Ether, Dry Ether, Gold Needle, and Phoenix Draft.
- New statuses: Bravery, Faith, Protect, Shell, Critical Hit Rate Up, Darkness, Venom, Debrave, Defaith, Deprotect, Deshell, Petrify, and Stone.
- Reprieve and Stun are now represented with status icons.
- Some statuses cannot be removed, represented by a yellow border.
- The Item Transmuter has been added, which acts as the game's Synthesis equivalent, allowing you to make consumable Items, Armor, Accessories, and Key Items required for some Side Quests.
- Minimap toggling is moved to the Options menu rather than being mapped to
.
- Critical hit damage is greatly lowered, now only doing around 10% more than a normal hit.
Characters[]
- Cloud can use ranged attacks after dodging. Holding
after dodging launches him into the air.
- Cloud has a new dodge animation with a slash integrated, and can dodge in midair.
- Punisher Mode's attack string is modified.
- Precision-guarding with Punisher Mode unleashes a modified counterattack.
- Braver, Triple Slash, and Counterstance can be used in midair, with Braver dealing more damage when done so.
- Using Disorder in Punisher Mode launches Cloud into the air.
- New abilities: Firebolt Blade and Prime Mode
- New ability unlocked in his folio: Aerial Onslaught
- Barret no longer has melee weapons, with their attacks integrated into a synergy skill.
- Charging Uppercut and Smackdown are still executed normally.
- Lifesaver increases Barret's HP by 1000.
- Point Blank no longer attaches a timed bomb to the enemy.
- New abilities: Bonus Round and Turbulent Spirit
- New ability unlocked in his folio: Lifeblood Cannon
- Tifa can dodge in midair and freely use her
Deadly Dodge Materia attack.
- Focused Strike and Overpower can be used in midair.
- New abilities: Reverse Gale and Unfettered Fury
- New ability unlocked in her folio: Trinity Strike
- Tempest is executed by holding down
. Her new
ability, Ward Shift, teleports her to the nearest ward.
- The Fleeting Familiar ability is removed and is instead summoned with a fully-charged Tempest, which strengthens her magic attacks.
- The second spell from Arcane Ward now costs MP.
- ATB Ward functions differently, increasing allies' ATB gauges as Aerith fills hers while standing in it, and costs 1 ATB.
- Ray of Judgment costs 1 ATB.
- New ability unlocked in her folio: Transcendence
- Yuffie can dodge in midair and freely use her melee
Deadly Dodge Materia attack.
- Art of War can be used in midair.
- Cactuar Caper is functionally replaced with Shooting Star.
Materia[]
- New
Magic Materia are added:
Gravity Materia, stone,
Reraise Materia,
Fire and Ice Materia,
Lightning and Wind Materia,
Poison and Petrify Materia,
Comet Materia,
Empowerment Materia,
Fortification Materia,
Disempowerment Materia, and
Enervation Materia.
- Firaga, Thundaga, Blizzaga, and Aeroga require 2 ATB, but cost fewer MP. Lightning spells no longer cost more MP than other elemental spells.
- Cure, Cura, Curaga, Sleep, Haste, and Slow cost more MP.
- Poisona, Resist, Biora, Bioga, Silence, and Stop cost fewer MP.
- Breach and Dispel only cost 1 ATB and half as much MP.
- New
Command Materia are added:
Morph Materia,
Item Economizer Materia,
Limit Siphon Materia,
Spare Change Materia,
Jump Materia,
Darkside Materia, and
Gambler Materia.
Steal Materia can be upgraded into Mug, allowing any character to use it. It consumes half an ATB gauge and refunds ATB upon stealing successfully.
Enemy Skill Materia features a new array of abilities, which are learned via Chadley in the Combat Simulator rather than from fighting enemies directly.
Ninja Cannonball Materia is absent.
- New
Complete Materia are added:
Vitality Up Materia,
Spirit Up Materia,
Strength Up Materia,
Speed Up Materia,
Auto-Unique Ability Materia,
Auto-Weapon Ability Materia,
Synergy Support Materia,
Limit Support Materia,
HP⇔MP Materia,

ATK⇔MATK Materia.
Provoke Materia can now be used by a character that is being controlled.
HP Up Materia and
MP Up Materia have their effects reduced, and their maximum potency can be attained with one fully-leveled materia.
Parry Materia,
Deadly Dodge Materia,
Auto-Cure Materia, and
Refocus Materia are removed, as their effects are integrated elsewhere.
EXP Up Materia and
Pedometer Materia are absent.
- New
Support Materia are added:
Level Boost Materia,
Auto-Cast Materia,
Magic Efficiency Materia,
Magic Focus Materia,
Swiftcast Materia
- New
Summoning Materia are added: Magic Pot, Moogle Trio, Posh Chocobo,

Gilgamesh Materia. New summon materia (barring the DLC materia) can be levelled up through Divine Intel, summon materia that was in Remake can not.

Bahamut Materia are removed.
Leviathan Materia and
Ramuh Materia are present, but must be obtained by having a save from the base game or INTERmission from Remake present on the device the player is playing on, respectively.
