Final Fantasy VII is the seveneth iteration of the series, the fourth to be released in the US (it was still released as VII there, rather than IV). It was the first Final Fantasy that was not initially released on a Nintendo platform - instead it was released on the Playstation. It was also the first 3D Final Fantasy. Since VII, all the main Final Fantasy titles have been 3D and on the Playstation or Playstation 2 platform.
