The following is a list of command abilities in Final Fantasy II.

Famicom command abilities

All party members have access to the same four command abilities in battle.

(Some fights, including boss fights, are impossible to run from.)
FFII Run Command
Magic Cast a spell. FFII Magic Command
Item Use an item, switch out currently-equipped weapons and shields during battle, or use a weapon to cast Item magic. Only items the character is currently holding may be used or equipped.
(Only certain weapons cast spells when used.).

(Only certain weapons cast spells when used.).
FFII DoS Items Command
Flee Attempt to escape from battle.
(Some fights, including boss fights, are impossible to run from.)
(The Flee command can be issued to all party members at once by pressing both shoulder buttons simultaneously.)
FFII DoS Flee Command

Trivia

  • The Run command is the second option on the command menu in the original NES version, directly below the Fight command. Remakes have reorganized the command menu to place Flee at the bottom of the list, in order to remain consistent with the command menu layouts of other Final Fantasy games.
