Band called Final Fantasy in Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. (iOS)

The Final Fantasy series has sometimes had its own title, Final Fantasy, alluded to, or used as a term by characters, within its fictional universes. An "ultimate illusion" is a phrase used to allude to the title, as well. At times, the series initials, FF, are referenced as well.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]

There is a Band ability named "Final Fantasy". It is used by combining Cecil (Attack) + Rosa (White Magic) + Kain (Jump) + Rydia (Black Magic) + Edge (Throw).

Final Fantasy takes 75 MP to perform and is offense/defense mix combining the powers of all five fighters. It exceeds damage limit and heals allies. Despite its power, the casting time is long, and it is possible a player character could die before the party finishes casting the spell.

Final Fantasy V[]

An item called Final Fantasy appears within the game's data, but cannot be found within a normal playthrough. It doesn't have any purpose or usefulness, just like the Dragon Seal and Omega Badge.

Final Fantasy VIII[]

The speech Ultimecia holds in Deling City was almost completely different in the Japanese version, where she mentions the words final fantasy (究極のファンタジー, kyūkyoku no fantajī?).

I shall dance for eternity as the witch who brings you dread! You and I. Together, we shall create the final fantasy. Within are life and death and sweet dreams.

As a reference to series's initials, there's a resistance group known as "Forest Fox".

Final Fantasy X-2[]

When Yuna tells Nooj about her plan of using love as plan B in stopping Shuyin, he calls it "an ultimate illusion", a synonym for "final fantasy". Another reference to the term Final Fantasy, are the two Alchemist mixes, Final Phoenix and Fantasy Phoenix.

Final Fantasy XII[]

Gilgamesh's special attack is called Ultimate Illusion.

In the International Zodiac Job System version, a number of new weapons were added, each with a letter at the end of their name, such as Blood Sword A and Masamune I. If the player is to collect all the new weapons, in order from the weakest to the strongest weapon, the letters spell out "FINAL FANTASY". This is not the case in the English localization of the The Zodiac Age, as the weapons were renamed after the signs of Hindi solar calendar.

Final Fantasy XIII[]

As a reference to series's initials, the theme that plays during encounters with Barthandelus is called "Fighting Fate" and the track that plays when fal'Cie Anima captures Serah Farron on the twelfth day is called "Forever Fugitives".

Final Fantasy XIV[]

In Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood, Ultima the High Seraph's ultimate attack is named Ultimate Illusion, a synonym of "Final Fantasy". In the French version, it is translated to a more direct reference, "Fantasie Finale".

In the Japanese version of Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers, Amaurot's epithet in the Japanese version is "Terminus Phantasm" (終末幻想, Shūmatsu Gensō?), a synonym of "The Final Fantasy".

Final Fantasy XVI[]

As Ultimalius is about to be defeated, he rants to Clive that the world he seeks is a "fantasy" in which the latter replies that the "fantasy" is his [Ultimalius] and that they [humanity] will be its "final" witness as he delivers the finishing blow.

In the post-credits scene, there is a book called Final Fantasy written by Joshua Rosfield, which is implied to tell of the story of Eikons in a world where magic is but a fable. The cover of the book has the emblem of the Cursebreakers, the Bearer-emancipation movement that Clive led to continue Cidolfus Telamon's legacy. Joshua has a notebook about the Eikons Joshua's notebook about the Eikons from FFXVI at the apodytery in Ash, but whether Final Fantasy is based on it, is unknown.

Mewt creates an illusory version of Ivalice using a Gran Grimoire and a game referred to as Final Fantasy. It is unknown which Final Fantasy installment they are referring to, although it is most likely the original Final Fantasy Tactics.

Final Fantasy Type-0[]

Quon claims Agito is but a "final fantasy".

When Deuce and Eight talk with Quon Yobatz after Tempus Finis arrives, he claims that the Agito, a savior said to appear during the end times, is a "final fantasy", and that Orience cannot be saved. He believes the Agito and its intervention don't really exist, them being a myth to pacify those that live through the end of days and the invasion of the Rursus, giving false hope that their world can be spared.

Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light[]

The Adventurer's pet is called "Faithful Fox", a reference to series's initials.

Dissidia Final Fantasy (2008)[]

The final part of Inward Chaos is titled The Ultimate Fantasy. Additionally, the final blow of Chaos's Utter Chaos attack is called Brink of Delusion. Both are synonyms for "final fantasy". The words final fantasy are also repeated during the game's narration.

In the Japanese version, when defeated, Exdeath refers to the Final Fantasy series by saying, "Is this my final fantasy?" In the English versions, this line is translated as, "Will I end like a mirage?"

Captain N: The Game Master[]

Due to not having an official name for the Final Fantasy world during the Nintendo era of the original's game release, the creator/writers of the show referred to it as the World of Final Fantasy, named after the game. It is described as being a medieval world.

The Last Story[]

The Last Story is a 2011 fantasy role playing game for the Wii developed by Mistwalker, a company founded by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, and published by Nintendo in Japan and by Xseed Games in North America. The game's title can be read as a synonym for "final fantasy," and the game's story and thematic elements as a fundamental reinvention of the original Final Fantasy concept. Additionally, the music for The Last Story was composed by long-time Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu. But unlike Final Fantasy itself, the development and publication of The Last Story did not directly involve Square-Enix, and the game is copyrighted directly to Nintendo.

Bravely Default[]

The development team settled on the name Bravely Default: Flying Fairy so that the subtitle would abbreviate to "FF", as a reminder of the game's origins.[citation needed]

Super Mario RPG[]

In the Nintendo Switch remake of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, the in-game bestiary mentions that Culex, still in a 2D form, crossed dimensions from the world of "Last Illusion", a synonym for Final Fantasy and a "story about crystals".
