The following is a list of all statuses found in Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light.

List of statuses[]

Confusion[]

Targets affected by this status will only choose to use the Attack command every turn and will randomly target anyone present in the battle, be it a friend or a foe. In the turns where the target is queuing up an action, but before the action can be executed, the target being affected by Confusion will skip their turn, doing nothing.

This status is indicated by stars spinning above the head of the affected target. Confusion lasts up to five turns in battle and does not persist after battle.

Confusion is removed upon receiving any form of damage that deals at least 1 HP damage.

Poison[]

Targets affected by this status will suffer roughly 3% damage from their current HP at the end of each turn, rounded up to at least 1 HP damage if the amount is lower.

This status is indicated by purple bubbles sipping out from the head of the affected target. Poison lasts up to five turns in battle and lingers after battle. Poisoned characters will take 1 HP damage every few steps taken while walking on the world map.

Poison damage is considered self-inflicted damage, and will cure both Confusion and Sleeping. Enemies KO'd by poison damage leave no drop behind.

Petrification[]

Targets affected by this status will be rendered unable to act, do not take turns, do not recover AP, and receive no EXP after battle. The game considers the target incapacitated: being incapacitated removes all other statuses, both negative and positive, currently active on the user. If all player characters are incapacitated, the battle will end in a Game Over.

This status is indicated by having the target turn into a stone statue while retaining whatever form or crown the character is currently equipped with, including Animal form. Petrification persists until cured and lingers after battle.

Petrified player characters slide across the floor instead of walking. If the player character leading the party is afflicted by petrification, the next non-incapacitated character (viewed from the left of the screen) will be made the leader.

Most boss enemies are immune to this status.

Silence[]

Targets affected by this status will have their equipped magic spells grayed out. In the turns where the target is queuing up a magic spell, but before the spell can be cast, the target being affected by Silence will skip their turn, doing nothing.

This status is indicated by having a speech bubble with ellipses above the head of the affected target. Silence lasts up to five turns in battle and does not persist after battle.

Status Down[]

Targets affected by this status will temporarily have their Strength, Intellect, and Spirit cut by 10%, reducing their damage and healing output.

There is no animated indication of the target continuing to be affected by this status, so players will have to keep an eye on the status report screen on the lower screen of the game system to keep track of the status. Status Down lasts up to five turns in battle and does not persist after battle.

Blindness[]

Targets affected by this status will temporarily have their Physical Accuracy and Physical Evasion halved, causing their physical attacks to miss their targets more often and rendering them less successful in evading physical attacks.

This status is indicated by having black haze clouding up head of the affected target. Blindness lasts up to five turns in battle and does not persist after battle.

Cursed[]

Targets affected by this status will have all their equipped crown abilities grayed out. In the turns where the target is queuing up a crown ability, but before the action can be executed, the target being affected by Curse will skip their turn, doing nothing.

This status is indicated by skull symbols above the head of the affected target. Curse lasts up to five turns in battle and does not persist after battle.

Most boss enemies, and all regular enemies found within the four bonus dungeons, are immune to this status.

Sleeping[]

Targets affected by this status will be rendered unable to act, do not take turns, do not recover AP, and takes double damage from any form of damage that deals at least 1 HP damage. In the turns where the target is queuing up an action, but before the action can be executed, the target being affected by Sleep will skip their turn, doing nothing.

This status is indicated by having the letter "Z" appearing above the head of the affected target. Sleep lasts up to five turns in battle and does not persist after battle.

Sleeping is removed upon receiving any form of damage that deals at least 1 HP damage.

Curiously, sleeping player characters can still participate in the post-battle victory dance, striking their own pose.

Dead[]

Targets affected by this status will be rendered unable to act, do not take turns, have their AP reduced to 0, do not recover AP, and receive no EXP after battle. The game considers the target incapacitated: being incapacitated removes all other statuses, both negative and positive, currently active on the user. If all player characters are incapacitated, the battle will end in a Game Over.

Dead party members can still be made to perform simple Attacks or cast limited spells without consuming AP with some abilities from the Monk crown.

This status is indicated by having the target revert into their Freelancer form and turn into an apparition, hovering slightly above the ground. Dead persists until cured and lingers after battle. Having a character's HP reduced to 0 is the most common way to achieve this status.

Dead player characters float across the floor instead of walking. If the player character leading the party is dead, the next non-incapacitated character (viewed from the left of the screen) will be made the leader.

Torte is the only temporarily playable character who does not revert into his human form when dead, but still retains his animal form as an apparition, which resembles a variant of bunny balloons with short ears.

Most boss enemies are immune to this status.

Paralysis[]

Targets affected by this status will rendered unable to act and do not take turns half of the time. In the turns where the target is queuing up an action, but before the action can be executed, there is a chance the target being inflicted with Paralysis will skip their turn, doing nothing.

This status is indicated by static-like electrical charges above the head of the affected target. Paralysis lasts up to five turns in battle and does not persist after battle.

Animal[]

Targets in this status will have their Strength, Intellect, and Spirit decreased to 70% of their original values.

Having a Beastmaster in the party doubles the aforementioned stats of anyone in animal form, effectively boosting those stats by 40% in comparison to their human form.

This status is indicated by the affected target turn into an animal. Animal form is not a status brought about within a battle, but must be applied using the Animal Staff or the Transformation Staff outside of battle. Characters petrified while being in Animal form are restored as an animal after petrification is removed from them.

Animal form is also imposed upon some of the player characters during certain events in the story. Forms taken by all playable characters (excluding Krinjh) are as such:

Removed from battle[]

Targets affected by this status will be rendered unable to act, do not take turns, cannot be targeted, do not recover AP, and receive no EXP after battle. The game also considers the target incapacitated: being incapacitated removes all other statuses, both negative and positive, currently active on the user. If all player characters are incapacitated, the battle will end in a Game Over.

This status is indicated by having the target disappear from view, leaving an empty spot where they previously were but with their status window still actively visible. As this status renders the affected character unable to be targeted, this status cannot be removed during battle. Characters removed from battle return with all their HP and AP intact after the battle, in whatever way those stats were before the characters were removed from battle, but will have all other status removed as part of the game treating the character as being incapacitated.
