This article is in need of a few pictures. Perhaps you can help by uploading a picture of Vayne's fighting abilities.

Vayne Carudas Solidor is a playable character in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT and its arcade version. He is the third character and second villain to represent Final Fantasy XII. He is a Vanguard type, and his EX Skill is Prime Conqueror.

Vayne's default player name is Nameless Consul. His manikin counterpart, the Ersatz Dynast, is gold.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Vayne's default costume, "Imperial Consul", is identical to his appearance in Final Fantasy XII. He wears a dark green pullover and pants, beneath a sleeveless green armor, adorned with white gloves, black boots with gold knee-pads, gold belt, and white-and-gold winged armlets. Vayne's cloak is dark blue, crimson, and white. In the first alternate coloration, Vayne's armor is gold with black pullover beneath, his belt and knee-pads are silver, with gray gloves, silver-and-gray winged armlets, and a cloak with silver, gray, and blue. In the second alternate coloration, Vayne's armor is black with white pullover underneath, his boots are white with black knee-pads and belt, pale-blue gloves and blue-and-black winged armlets, and his cloak is white, pale-blue, and purple.

Vayne's first alternate costume, "Novus", is his appearance as Vayne Novus. He wears gold armored gauntlets, belt, and knee-pads along with black boots, his pants are brown, and the remnants of his cloak are orange with black lining. The first alternate coloration gives Vayne's gauntlets, belt, and knee-pads a heavy bronze color, while his pants have an added red tinge, and his cloak remnants are blue with black lining. The second alternate coloration gives Vayne's gauntlets, belt, and knee-pads a silver color, while his pants are black, and his cloak remnants are purple with black lining.

Personality[]

In contrast to his defiance of the gods of Ivalice, Vayne respects both Materia and Spiritus, stating that as pawns, they must help them maintain World B. He maintains his respectful and polite personality.

Equipment[]

Vayne's weapons are Mist infused greatswords. Though Vayne fights primarily as a monk, the swords are incorporated in both his Bravery and HP attacks.

His default weapons are Sephira, first wielded by Vayne in his Novus form in Final Fantasy XII, which function as his changeable weapons in the Dissidia series. His first alternate weapons are known as Corruption, while his second are Enigma, and his third are Recompense.

Story[]

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

Like many other characters, it is unknown if Vayne had participated in the previous cycles. He, Kam'lanaut, and Snow Villiers were absent when Spiritus summoned his champions to his tower to confront Materia.

Vayne encounters the Warrior of Light, Cecil, and Noctis in Porta Decumana and questions how much they value their freedom and to what level they are willing to fight for it. He spars with the trio to generate energy to maintain the world. After he is defeated, he asks Noctis why he fights. The latter responds that he fights to take back something important that someone took from him. Afterwards, the trio leaves the area to continue traveling to Spiritus's domain while Vayne stays behind.

Shortly after Shinryu's defeat, the moogles give Vayne a crystal to host his memories for Spiritus to use in the upcoming infinitely long war. With a crystal doppelgänger of himself to serve on Spiritus's behalf, Vayne returns to his home world.

Spoilers end here.

Gameplay[]

  • Type: Vanguard - Vayne can choose the direction in which he sends opponents flying, which can be done with Left stick on the third input of Bravery Attack chains.

Vayne is one of the more unique Vanguards of the cast. Depending on the player's input on the analog stick when landing the last hit of his neutral Bravery attacks, Vayne can knock his opponents in a specific direction, or knock them straight back with no input. This naturally makes Vayne excellent at comboing attacks with allies, as he can reliably Wall Rush from a variety of positions and in most any terrain. Complimenting this further are his other Bravery attacks, which have strong vertical utility to hit opponents above or below Vayne. As drawbacks, his damage output is poor for a Vanguard, and Vayne has poor ranged options, relying on melee attacks. Closing distance can be difficult as Vayne's attacks do not have good horizontal range on their own, and as a Vanguard his dashing speed is low. His EX Skill allows him to buff himself and nearby allies, but to get its full potency Vayne must charge it up for a few seconds, leaving him open to attack.

Behind the scenes[]

Vayne was revealed as the first DLC character of the Season Pass on March 13, 2018, and released March 22, 2018 on arcades and April 26, 2018 on consoles.

Vayne is the first playable DLC character in the series. While Aerith Gainsborough was the first DLC character, she was available to use as an Assist only. With Vayne's inclusion, Final Fantasy XII is the second of the main-series games to add a second antagonist as a playable representative, following Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy V.

Vayne's inclusion makes him the only main antagonist to be added after a secondary antagonist from the same game; Gabranth was the first representative antagonist from Final Fantasy XII. The Sephira are one of three weapons wielded by antagonists that were targetable enemies in its original game; the other two being the Fey Tentacles and Shadow Dragon Scales. Upon his initial inclusion, the title of Vayne's manikin counterpart was incorrectly spelled as "Erzsatz Dynast".

Voice[]

Both of Vayne's voice actors from Final Fantasy XII reprise their role; Nobuo Tobita in the Japanese version, and Elijah Alexander in the English version.
