Absorbs HP from one enemy to heal all allies. Trigger "Whisperwind."
Description
Sylph is a level 1 summon in Final Fantasy V. It performs the attack Whisperwind, which drains HP from one enemy to restore to everyone in the party.
Sylph can be used via Summon and Call once obtained, and also via Magic Lamp. With the latter two, the summoner uses no MP.
Obtained[]
Sylph can be purchased from Walse for 350 gil in Bartz's world. In the merged world, it can be purchased from Phantom Village for the same price.
Stats[]
Ability | MP cost | Power | Effect |
---|---|---|---|
Whisperwind | 8 | 30 | Non-elemental damage to one enemy; split to heal to all party members. |
Whisperwind's damage is calculated as follows:
The damage dealt will be split to all conscious allies, so ¼ each if all four are conscious.
Use[]
When summoned for 8 MP, Sylph will deal non-elemental damage to one enemy, and restore the amount dealt to all allies that are conscious. Its damage is equal to Chocobo's normal Choco Kick attack, though Chocobo costs less MP and has the chance to use the powerful Fat Chocobo attack. Sylph's Whisperwind heal is also likely a little less than casting Cure on the party, but still a decent heal.
Later on, the Black Magic spell Drain and the Blue Magic spell Vampire function similarly. Each have a chance to deal more damage (Drain is an attack spell with more power, while Vampire damages based on the user's HP missing), but only heal themselves. Whisperwind remains the only real way for the Summon skillset to heal until the much more expensive Phoenix spell is acquired. Nonetheless, it is better to use stronger healing spells from other skillsets later on.
Some players opt to skip the early summons to improve Call and become able to summon powerful creatures for free.
