The Sector 7 Slums is a field map in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission" taking place in the Sector 7 undercity. It is the first location in which Tifa Lockhart joins the party, and the first in which Odd Jobs are available to complete. The field is visited in three chapters throughout the base game.

The field is first visited in Chapter 3, "Home Sweet Slum", in which the party comprises Cloud Strife and Tifa, who complete several tasks and help the residents. These quests include Odd Jobs, which affect both the affection mechanics and dress mechanics with Tifa. Later, a few quests as Cloud and Tifa in the Sector 7 Slums take place at the end of the following chapter, "Mad Dash". Finally, the chapter is revisited for Chapter 12, "Fight for Survival", during an attack on the Sector 7 Plate. All party members are playable periodically throughout the quests in these chapters. In Chapter 13, "A Broken World", parts of the Sector 7 Slums are visited in the Sector 7 Collapsed Plate Area.

In "Episode INTERmission", the slums' outskirts are explored during "First Challenge" and following quests, which lead Yuffie to the Scrap Boulevard and the town, which are nigh identical to their appearances in the base game.

Sector 7 Undercity Station[]

Sector 7 Undercity Station from FFVII Remake

Sector 7 Undercity Station.

The Sector 7 Undercity Station is visited at the start of chapter 3, "Home Sweet Slum", first arrived in in the quest "Return to Base". It is later visited at the end of "Sudden Attack", the final quest of chapter 4, "Mad Dash", and finally in "Head for the Pillar" at the start of chapter 12, "Fight for Survival". During "Head for the Pillar", an encounter is fought here.

The Undercity Station, when visited by the player, has a docked Train, which can only be interacted with in "Sudden Attack" to decide when to board (proceeding with the next chapter). On all visits aside from the "Fight for Survival" visit, it is filled with a variety of non-player characters. None can be spoken to, but their conversations can be overheard by approaching them.

During chapter 3, a small store nearby sells items at the shop. More notably, it sells Music discBarret's Theme for the Music Collection.

At the end of the station (to its west on the map) is the Pillar Plaza.

Pillar Plaza[]

The Pillar Plaza is visited during chapter 3, "Home Sweet Slum" and chapter 12, "Fight for Survival". As the name implies, the plaza connects a few areas to the Pillar for the slums. Namely, it connects to the Undercity Station on the east, the Abandoned Talagger Factory in the northwest, and the Residential Area in the west. At the south is an inaccessible path that is blocked by Shinra soldiers.

A notably interaction occurs in the Pillar Plaza during "Return to Base" when Cloud meets an individual who warns about Avalanche and a cutscene commences. Later, Gwen is located in the plaza when giving the quest "Just Flew In from the Graveyard". Aside from this, no notable events occur here.

Pillar[]

Sector 7 Pillar.

The Sector 7 Slums Pillar is the main setting of chapter 12, "Fight for Survival", first in "Link Up with Avalanche", and then primarily from the quests "To the Top" up to the final quest of the chapter, "Showdown". Before this, the pillar is inaccessible, but can still be seen from the map.

The pillar comprises 15 flights of stairs up to reach the top, with a variety of enemies fought across its floors. These include helitroopers, elite grenadiers, elite riot troopers, elite security officers, and Sentry Guns. At the bottom floor, and on floor 14F, are a bench and vending machine.

Abandoned Talagger Factory[]

Abandoned Talagger Factory from FFVII Remake

Abandoned Talagger Factory.

The Abandoned Talagger Factory is a dungeon area visited for two Odd Jobs in chapter 3, "Home Sweet Slum": "Nuisance in the Factory" and the follow-up quest "Just Flew In from the Graveyard" in the base game. In INTERmission, it has one of the flyers for "The Happy Turtle Ad Campaign" , as well as two materia finds—Chakra Materia Chakra Materia and First Strike Materia First Strike Materia—and a Fort Condor unit: Monodrive (Ranged).

The factory has a maze-like structure of paths connecting its warehouses, and several doors to some warehouses are locked until open from another side. The first warehouse visited on the way in has an exit to the west to a chest containing two antidotes. In the southwestern spot of the area is a vending machine and a bench, as well as a Fire Materia Fire Materia found on the ground; this spot can only be reached by first passing through a central warehouse. The warehouse at the northwestern end has a door on its southern end, behind which is a chest with sedative vials. The warehouse at the eastern-most end, visited for "Just Flew In from the Graveyard", is locked until a key is found stashed inside crates in the southwest spot.

Throughout the area, wererats and gorgers can be fought, and during "Nuisance in the Factory", lesser drakes appear. Another enemy, cerulean drakes, is fought during "Just Flew In from the Graveyard".

Residential Area[]

Sector 7 Slums from FFVII Remake 2

Sector 7 Slums Residential Area.

The Residential Area is the largest area of the Sector 7 Slums, and visited during the majority of quests. It is visited throughout every quest of chapter 3, "Home Sweet Slum", and is where most characters who offer quests are first spoken to. Throughout "Life in the Slums", Tifa gives Cloud a tour of the entire area. Later, it is visited briefly in chapter 4, "Mad Dash", from "To Wedge's Place" to the end of the chapter. Finally, it is visited briefly in chapter 12, "Fight for Survival", during the quests "Evacuation Orders" up to "The Rescue", though during these quests it is much more limited as many paths are blocked off.

The area is wide, with several houses along the roads that connect its landmarks. Stargazer Heights is located in the western-most area, the Beginner's Hall is located in the southern end, and Seventh Heaven is located in the northeast. Throughout the area are signposts for many different stores and stalls, but only the Item Shop on the road between Stargazer Heights and Seventh Heaven can be visited to purchase wares. The kids' play area is to the south, where the player can find Betty during the main game, and hear kids play as "the merc" in INTERmission.

In the northern end, just west of Seventh Heaven, is a tunnel leading to a small area at the back with a few non-player characters and a Junk Dealer, which has changing stock in INTERmission. Behind the tunnel is a gap leading out to a small plaza, where enemies are fought during "Rat Problem" and "Ominous Shadows", and a chest containing three grenades. The northeastern end, just east of Seventh Heaven, has a DJ with music playing who will give Music discHip Hop de Chocobo disc.

In chapter 3, a wide variety of non-player characters are found, and approaching them allows the player to hear their conversation. These conversations will change slightly depending on recent quests. During "Lost Friends", three white cats can be found and interacted with to complete the quest. Beyond this, the quest givers Chadley, Wymer, Betty, the item store owner, and the scrap dealer are all located in the Residential Area.

Stargazer Heights[]

Stargazer Heights
Tifa's room

Stargazer Heights apartment complex (top); Tifa's room (bottom)

Located in the western ends of the Slums, Stargazer Heights is visited briefly during the quests "Return to Base", "Noisy Neighbors", the end of "Ominous Shadows", and for the discovery sidequest "Alone at Last".

Marle is found at the front of the block on the bottom floor, and the three relevant rooms are on the top floor. Cloud's room is 202, the middle room. The room has only an empty bed and sink, with nothing to interact with. Marco's room, seen in "Noisy Neighbors", is to the right of Cloud's in 203. Tifa's room is found in 201, to the left of Cloud's, and can only be entered during "Alone at Last". The room differs from Cloud's in that it is the reverse layout of his room, and is decorated: it contains a handbag hanging up, a pair of boots, a desk with music CDs and books, a behind the desk, a poster for the AIR Music Gallery for music lovers.

At the end of the top floor balcony is a ladder to the ceiling, where a treasure chest contains a phoenix down. Phoenix Down atop Stargazer Heights from FFVII Remake

The apartments' door texture is glitched in the PS4 version, but is fixed in Intergrade.

Beginner's Hall[]

Weapon Store
Neighborhood Watch

Weapon Store (downstairs); Neighborhood Watch (upstairs)

Located in the southern end, the Beginner's Hall has a weapon shop on the bottom floor and a room for the neighborhood watch on the top floor.

More notably, just to the west of the Beginner's Hall is a tally of monsters slain, where the player can collect rewards from Katie. Further west, Chadley and Wymer are found.

Directly to the right of Beginners Hall is the headquarters of the Neighborhood Watch. They keep a tally of fiends slain each month.

Seventh Heaven[]

Seventh Heaven interior from FFVII Remake

Seventh Heaven.

Seventh Heaven is visited for a few quests throughout chapter 3, "Home Sweet Slum", as well as the quest "The Rescue" in chapter 12, "Fight for Survival". The bar has a single room that can be visited, and depending on the quest, interactions with Tifa, Barret, Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie. A jukebox contains "Tifa's Theme", which is unlocked automatically. More notably, the darts minigame can be played here during chapter 3.

In front of Seventh Heaven, Mysterious Spectres and an Enigmatic Spectre are fought during "Sudden Attack" in chapter 4, "Mad Dash".

Culvert Street[]

An elevated path covered with a metal roofing, containing a number of merchants selling repurposed scrap. It is directly behind Seventh Heaven with a collapsed section that can be ducked under to reach an empty lot. The area has a shady reputation within the slums, and it is rumored that some of the merchants act as fronts for Avalanche to generate income for the organization.

Item Shop[]

Sector 7 Undercity item shop from FFVII Remake

The shop is located on the road connecting Seventh Heaven and Stargazer Heights, and marked by a red sign. The item store owner will sell various items and Materia, and also gives the quest "Rat Problem". The Music discThe Prelude music disc plays on the counter, which is purchasable from the shop.

Municipal Storage Area[]

North from the Residential Area, the Municipal Storage Area is visited during "Shinra Reacts". The area comprises a narrow, slightly bending path along walls, with a vending machine and bench halfway through.

Scrap Boulevard[]

Scrap Boulevard from FFVII Remake

Scrap Boulevard.

The Scrap Boulevard is located behind a gate on the western end of the Residential Area. It is visited during the quests "A Job for the Neighborhood Watch" and "On the Prowl".

The Scrap Boulevard mostly comprises paths between hills, where gorger and wererat monsters are fought. In the base game, a cave close to the entrance has an Ice Materia Ice Materia, and a narrow path just east of this leads north, but cannot be visited until opened during "On the Prowl". At the far northwestern end of the area is a chest with two antidotes. During "To Wedge's Place", Wedge and Cloud initially land here before exploring the Residential Area.

In INTERmission, Yuffie can find an MP Up Materia MP Up Materia in a cave here MP Up in Scrap Boulevard from FFVII Remake INTERmission, and may run into a Wrath Hound.

Outskirts[]

Yuffie arrives in Midgar slums from FFVII Remake Episode INTERmission

Outskirts of Sector 7 slums.

The outskirts are located beyond Scrap Boulevard, to the west from the town. The area is visited in "First Challenge" and following quests in "Episode INTERmission". The area is abandoned, though littered with old buildings and machinery. Rats, gorgers and wayward wolves roam the area, a danger to the wandering robed men whom Yuffie tries to help, but becomes uneasy over their strange behavior. Yuffie can find an HP Up Materia HP Up Materia and power wristguards when restoring power to some of the mechanisms, a Wind Materia Wind Materia up on a tower here, and a 1,000 gil in a tunnel leading out of the outskirts to the Scrap Boulevard.

Sector 7 Clinic[]

Sector 7 Clinic from FFVII Remake INTERmission

Sector 7 Clinic.

Sector 7 Clinic appears in "Episode INTERmission". It is an unassuming building northeast from the neighborhood watch building with a large moogle doll outside. The clinic is a cover for an Avalanche HQ branch that is situated in the Sector 7 slums, unaffiliated with Barret Wallace's splinter cell that also makes the slums their home base. There is a treasure pot for a Boomerang Boomerang in here Boomerang treasure pot from FFVII Remake INTERmission (in a repeat playthrough it is a potion), and this is where Yuffie learns how to play Fort Condor. Zhijie, Billy Bob, Nayo, and Polk are stationed here.

Shipping Facility[]

The shipping facility appears in the later stages of "Wutai's Finest". It is located beyond the guarded gateway at from the Sector 7 Undercity Station. The facility has large machinery and conveyor belts.

Quests[]

Home Sweet Slum[]

Nuisance in the Factory from FFVII Remake 2

The Odd Job "Nuisance in the Factory".

All of the quests in "Home Sweet Slum" take place in the Sector 7 Slums. The first few Main Scenario quests up until "Problem Solving" are mostly linear scripted events, in which Cloud explores the slums along with Tifa. "A Job for the Neighborhood Watch" involves some combat, giving players control of Tifa for the first time, as Cloud and Tifa fight gorgers in the Scrap Boulevard. This quest also notably awards Cloud the Iron Blade Iron Blade.

"Problem Solving" opens up the various Odd Jobs during the chapter, and completing them alters affection mechanics with Tifa. "Chadley's Report" is begun by speaking to Chadley, who will give the player the Assess Materia Assess Materia. This is a very simple quest whose objective (to Assess two enemies) can be completed alongside other jobs. Another non-combat sidequest is "Lost Friends", in which a few cats must be found around the Residential Area. This quest awards a simple Maiden's Kiss for completing it.

"Rat Problem" is begun by speaking to the Item Shop owner, and is a simple combat quest involving defeating wererats and doomrats. Completing it allows "On the Prowl" to be completed, a more challenging quest in which the wrath hound must be fought in Scrap Boulevard. "Nuisance in the Factory" allows access to the Abandoned Talagger Factory, where gorgers and lesser drakes are fought. Defeating the lesser drakes completes the quest and unlocks "Just Flew In from the Graveyard", in which the party fights the more powerful cerulean drakes in the factory. Completing it awards a Star Bracelet.

Alone at Last from FFVII Remake 2

"Alone at Last" dialogue choice.

Once all Odd Jobs are completed, "Alone at Last" is unlocked. This discovery sidequest gives the option for the player to choose a dress for Tifa for chapter 9, "The Town That Never Sleeps".

During "Problem Solving" at any point while completing sidequests around the slums, running into Johnny's house in the northeast of the Residential Area commences "Shinra Reacts", and the Main Scenario can continue. Combat takes place in "Ominous Shadows", but the majority of remaining quests are scripted exploration quests.

Mad Dash[]

Only a few quests in "Mad Dash" take place in Sector 7 Slums, and those that do are mostly scripted events in which Cloud takes to Wedge and Jessie. "Sudden Attack" is a combat quest with Cloud and Tifa, in which they fight Mysterious Spectre and Enigmatic Spectre enemies, while the final quest simply leads into the following chapter.

Fight for Survival[]

Evacuation Orders from FFVII Remake

"Evacuation Orders".

Quests during "Fight for Survival" take place in different parts of the slums. In "Head for the Pillar", Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith fight Mysterious and Enigmatic Spectre enemies again, and after this, Cloud climbs the Pillar on his own in "Link Up with Avalanche", where he encounters several Shinra enemies.

After this quest, the player controls Aerith for "Evacuation Orders" up to "The Rescue". These quests are mostly scripted events in which Aerith must run through the slums to give evacuation orders, and eventually rescue Marlene Wallace. Once complete, the player controls Cloud and Tifa for "To the Top" where more powerful Shinra enemies are fought, and during "Showdown", Barret joins the battle in a boss battle against Reno and Rude.

A Broken World[]

In Chapter 13, the area transforms into the Sector 7 Collapsed Plate Area.

Wutai's Finest[]

Yuffie explores Sector 7 in "Episode INTERmission"'s first chapter, called "Wutai's Finest".

There are also three sidequests the player can do:

Encounters[]

Enemy Areas
Wererat Abandoned Talagger Factory, Scrap Boulevard, Residential Area north tunnel (during "Rat Problem")
Gorger Abandoned Talagger Factory, Scrap Boulevard
Lesser Drake Abandoned Talagger Factory (during "Nuisance in the Factory" and "Episode INTERmission")
Cerulean Drake Abandoned Talagger Factory (during "Just Flew In from the Graveyard")
Toxirat Outskirts (during "Episode INTERmission")
Wayward Wolf Outskirts (during "Episode INTERmission")
Wrath Hound Scrap Boulevard (during "Episode INTERmission")

The majority of enemies encountered in the Sector 7 Slums are fought in specific areas and only during certain quests.

Wererats and gorgers are fought in the Abandoned Talagger Factory and in Scrap Boulevard generally, and are fairly simple enemies that can be defeated with area-of-effect attacks, such as Cloud's Braver or Tifa's Divekick. A third common enemy encounter, the lesser drake, is a flying enemy that appears throughout the Abandoned Talagger Factory during "Just Flew In from the Graveyard". This enemy must be fought using aerial attacks, and is best defeated with spells.

During chapter 12, many more powerful enemies are encountered at the Pillar.

In "Episode INTERmission", Yuffie can fight various monsters in the Outskirts and Scrap Boulevard and Talagger Factory areas. She excels in ranged and elemental combat, and thus does not struggle against the drakes like Cloud and Tifa may do. She can also face Ramuh in Chadley's VR missions, and earn him as a summoning materia.
