Sauromugue1

Sauromugue Champaign.

Sauromugue Champaign is an area in Final Fantasy XI. Located in the Aragoneu region, Sauromugue borders Jeuno and is a strategically valuable location due to its status as the entry point of the Mindartia continent from Quon. Sauromugue Champaign has few natural resources to speak of, and the barren land is scarred from previous conflicts in the region. Nevertheless, the area is still hotly contested, even to this day.

Landmarks[]

Gausebit Mountains[]

Sauromugue Gausebit Mountains

The Gausebit Mountains.

The Gausebit Mountains are a rock formation found in the center of Sauromugue Champaign, hindering travel through the area. Despite the name, the Gausebit Mountains contain little relation to the Chocobo greens of the same name, and the source of the name is a mystery. The raptor NM Thunderclaw Thuban can often be found to the east of the Gausebit Mountains.

Sea of Shu'Meyo[]

Sauromugue ShuMeyo

A cliff facing the Sea of Shu'Meyo.

The Sea of Shu'Meyo lies on the northern border of Sauromugue Champaign, and direct access to it may only be had from the northeastern corner of the champaign. It is the only place in Suaromugue Champaign to fish, and a variety of fish exclusive to the Sea of Shu'Meyo may be angled from its depths.

Old Tiger Cave[]

Sauromugue Old Tiger Cave

The cave of the Old Tiger.

Position: (L-10)

This cave located on the southeastern corner of the map is a place where old creatures in the area come to pass on. A variety of bones may be found in the cave, and watching death's natural passage here and providing proof of it is a requirement for ranger applicants.

Voidwatch Operations[]

Position: (F-6)

Personnel have been stationed outside the walls of Jeuno to assist adventurers in the ongoing Voidwatch Operations. The Voidwatch Officer here is charged with debriefing adventurers as well as issuing Voidstones and rewards, whereas the Atmacite Refiner lends a hand by enriching Atmacite and teleporting adventurers to locations where Voidwatch Operations are being conducted.

Stone Monument[]

Sauromugue Stone Monument

The stone monument in Sauromugue Champaign.

Position: (J-9)

On a plateau on the southern end of Sauromugue Champaign, accessible only from Garlaige Citadel or from the Shadowreign era, a stone monument sits. It was placed by Enid Ironheart, the daughter of Gwynham Ironheart. It reads:

The Jeuno Straits separate our continent of Quon from the unknown lands of Mindartia. I was surprised to find it far narrower than I had thought.
Crossing the straits, I arrived in the Sauromugue Champaign, the gateway to Mindartia. The Royal Knights of San d'Oria built a castle here in the heyday of that kingdom's power.
The castle fell to a nighttime raid of three Tarutaru mages. The mighty knights routed, and their chocobos scattered. One by one they were driven into the straits. It became known as the Flight from Sauromugue.
I began my survey here, in this blood-soaked land that has won a place in the studies of every San d'Orian officer. But history is history. You cannot walk forward if you only look back.
I will befriend the Tarutaru and the Yagudo, so that peace may span across the continents.
