The Earth Medusa, also known as the GrMEDUSA, is an enemy from the original Final Fantasy. It is found in the areas of Flying Fortress and Chaos Shrine. It is recommended to bring Gold Needles to avoid being Petrified from the Earth Medusa's Glance ability. They are extremely dangerous when fought in multiples, so it is advised to quickly dispatch of them.
In the original Japanese Famicom version, the Earth Medusa is topless. This was censored during the American localization.

In Greek mythology Medusa was a monster, a Gorgon, generally described as having the face of a hideous human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair. Gazing directly upon her would turn onlookers to stone.
