Barnabas (robot)

Barnabas (バルナバ, Barunaba?), also known as Balnab, is a recurring boss in the Final Fantasy series. In all of its appearances, it is a humanoid robot created by a maniacal scientist named Lugae.

Gameplay[]

Final Fantasy IV[]

Barnabas is a creation of Dr. Lugae. When Cecil and his friends fight Dr. Lugae in the Tower of Babil, he calls forth Barnabas. Barnabas was seemingly not created to be smart, and attacks everything in its way, including the Doctor. After the party destroys Barnabas, Lugae seats himself in the ruined robot, becoming Barnabas-Z.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]

Barnabas is fought as a boss in the Subterrane with Dr. Lugae.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

Barnabas is the first boss in The Tower of Babil, where it is once again the creation of Lugae, here a Garlean scientist in the service of Zenos Galvus. True to its origins it mistakenly attacks its creator as its first action in battle, prompting Lugae to retreat deeper into the tower.

Etymology and origin[]

[view · edit · purge]Barnabas was one of the earliest Christian disciples in Jerusalem. He and Paul the Apostle undertook missionary journeys together, defended Gentile converts against the Judaizers and participated in the Council of Jerusalem.

Barnabas's story hearkens to the story of Frankenstein about an eccentric scientist who creates a grotesque creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment.
